after a ROM flash?

What is the easiest way to get all of my settings contacts and e-mail settings back on my phone after I do a Rom upgrade?
use a backup utility before you re flash
Will a back up remember all the programs and contacts and mail settings?
I'm by no means an expert, but it was my impression that it was not a good idea to restore a backup onto a new rom. Things are not necesarily in the same place and it can cause problems. That being said i don't really know of any solutions for you.
Haven't tried it yet, but the new Spb Backup v2.0 will restore data between upgrades, don't know about each setting though. On the other hand, if it saves all registry settings and certain files (i.e. ".ini") then everything should be the same.
if you're installing another ROM, you'll do best by reinstalling all your programs. this will ensure that the programs work with the newly installed ROM. i use MS Outlook to backup contacts... backing up email settings depends on what you use for email; if you're using a POP3 account, i suggest you reenter them.... in my opinion, using backup software to reinstall your programs, settings, etc., is risky and may cause unexpected issues. good luck!

Spb Backup has been incredibly buggy for me on my Telus Touch... does it work well for anyone else?
It freezes unless I do this: back up my documents only, turn off the option to create an exe and don't use encryption.
spb back up and ROM upgrade
so,on the telus touch, have you tried the rom upgrade and used spb backup to restore?

Not dumb, there are always questions when you install new software. But, this is another great feature of Spb Backup, it creates self-extracting restore files, with an option to create a copy of the software as well. So install it to your main memory, and have the files kept on your card. Whenever you need to restore, just run the file, you don't even need the app installed. Also includes a desktop sync app.
Rom update
Thanks for the speedy reply,I'm just looking now for any issues doing Rom update with vista 64(Telus tech said there should be no problem, but I've yet to get the same response twice from them)Ok i hope this new update is worth the sweat!

No prob, almost forgot to mention, after restoring the data, your PC will recognize it as it did before. I really like this feature, thought all my data was going to be duplicated.

Can you join Cab files?

I currently have about 30 programs installed on my mobile. I would like to simplify the installation process of these after a Hardreset. Is it possible to mrge them into one single Cab which will install all of the applications? Or will they then show up as only one item in the software list if I do this?

no you can't !
U can use a back up utility like sprite(Free with THD don't know about Xperia) or resco backup. Create a backup after installing all the apps U need and save it as a executable backup or as a back up set on the card. u can copy it in ur desktop also. Now anytime after a hard reset u can install those backed up apps without any other data. of course it may not work if U flash a new ROM etc.
One thing you can try is to look to see how UC works and set your cabs up that way..
You can then run it manually, copy sdconfig to /windows and run it. this way you should be able to manually run UC after installing any rom (even if it doesn't support it such as stock roms).

Im not a Cook so i dont really know how to 'cook' that thing to rom/device..
Just my 2cents, im very frustrated with re-installing all my apps everytime i upgrade to a newer version of rom. It's just pain in the ass.. Maybe the cookers can 'kindly' include the baby above in the rom. That's going to save the user alot of trouble..
=_= ~!

main problem with cooking uc in is that it massively increases the amount of 'bugs' in a rom:
99% of the time they're down to 3rd party software and having stuff installed blindy makes things worse...
if you can get it running manually (after you've tested a new rom for a bit) then why not do that? it'll only take one click then...

no ringing alet NOT EVEN VIBRATE working

ok this just started happening a few min ago there is no alert whatsoever the phone is not ringing for any alert and wont vibrate. but the vibrate still works and i hear sounds from other things such as my media player. i tried changing the ringtone but it resets itself to ring01-windowsphone and i tried setting it to a custom ringtone...nothing! i tried a soft reset. still . all my volumes are up so i dont know what to do
im running the stock tmobile 6.5 rom
also it started happening when i disconnected it from mass storage mode
EDIT:i just found out my windows media player will not open
so the standard windows mobile media player is broken. i try opening it and nothing. not even a error message. is there a cab where i can reinstall it? anything but a dreaded hard reset would be nice
Same problem here - Hard Reset was the only option.

are you running the same rom? beacuse ive seen other post where this has happened and its a reoccurring issue even after hard resets. so if this is going to happen again im calling tmobile and getting a new TP2 with the stock 6.1 rom. i really dont want to hard-spl cus i have a feeling somethings going to happen where i have to return the phone and i dont want to have to go thru the hassle of undoing spl
and if my only option is to hard reset is there something where i can backup all my apps. cus i dont even remember where i got half my apps from and they take so long to install

Use a 3rd-party app like SPB Backup, that will do a full backup of your current os state, including installed programs.
For the future, I'd recommend creating a "cabs" folder at the root of your storage card, whenever you get a new app/tweak just download the cab straight to that folder, run it from there, and just leave it in there for archiving purposes...you'll always have any of them again, immediately accessible in situations like this

thank you for the app advice. ill use that next time. i use to have a apps folder i put them all in but my SD card stopped working so i had to format. i updated to a energy rom and it basically has everything i need. and more except groove fish, which i cant live without! so ill download that later.
i didnt really like the tmobile 6.5 rom and compared to this. that rom was CRAP!
also i looked for about 3 hours for a fix on the media player. and nothing really so best bet is to hard reset

Make the phone wake up with a new SMS

OK i have looked all over this dang site and cannot find a way to make my phone WAKE UP when i get a text message. Everyone seems to be whining about how to make it stop, well how do i make mine START
Thanks
Wake up the phone when a new SMS comes in
NO ONE?!?!?
C'mon guys
PLEEEEASE dont tell me i have to go back to Vito Chat
Are you running the stock rom or a custom one?
This will help you out. Install (If not already installed with a custom Rom) and there will be an option to enable SMS Wake Up.
Here
Same thing doublen1 said, Ill look at the registry settings in case you dont want to install a custom ROM

[Q] This is not a sgs2 specific question but you guys are the ones I trust so

Just a quick note I am not really good with this but I can follow instructions and everything I know is from reading xda forums or from exploring and trial and error.
So I recently found a option in titanium to make a .zip so that when I install a new rom while I am there i can just install that .zip[ and have the full paid version of titanium there already when I boot up so I don't have to go to the market and get the free version then install my purchase key every time. Well I thought that was great. So I was wondering if there was a way to do that with another program. I use a program that backs up my apn settings and would like to get that on my phone as quick as possible also so the first thing I can do is fix my apn settings. I know that I can make a .zip file with root explorer and .tar files as well is that all I need to do? And where would I go to find the.apk to convert it? I would think it is in system\apps or something like that but I dont see it. So if some knows if this is possible and would be kind enough to post a how to I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks in advance.
