Upgrade ROM without hardspl..a possible solution..can it works? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

i found this old thread at modaco and i would like to know if it really works..
http://www.modaco.com/content/jupiter-jupiter-modaco-com/265150/how-to-upgrade-asian-graphite-to-wm6/
he said that upgrading a rom can be done by modifying the upgrader, DefaultLCID and SystemLCID..which means we can upgrade without hardspl, but i cant confirm it as i haven't tried it yet..
anyone have tried or willing to take a shot?

Flashing, and going back

Ok well i want to flash to i think the Touch Flow 4.02 rom, however i want to know if it goes wrong how do i fix it? Can i download the rom from the O2 site their XDA Orbit update? and put in my serial an then if i have bricked it get it to load that?? or does that requre WM5 on their initially? If so can someone please tell me some instructions in order to if its bricked get it to bootloader an then be able to install with that O2 update? or can i just connect it an run the update? (Sorry i just want to know there is a way to fix it if it goes wrong an there doesn't appear to be any talk about going back to the factory firmware using the update?)
Any and all help apprectiated!

Hi reisyboy,
If you flash in a proper way (meaning; Use USPL to unlock your device every time you flash with a new ROM), you can always go back to the factory ROM supplied by your provider.
I have downloaded the official -updated- ROM of T-M... before I was going to flash my phone. At a certain time I didn't see any improvement with an other ROM and flashed back in no time to factory settings. I have not used USPL for flashing back to the factory ROM. If you are having trouble finding the official ROM, try to find it in the Artemis-WIKI. Very usefull.
Read these instructions very good and you are in business
Grtz and good luck!

ROM Flashing Question - Is it possible to safeguard the device for reflashing?

Hello,
I have a question that I have wanted to ask for ages and have never found the answer:
Is there a way I can 'safeguard' my phone so if something goes wrong in the flashing process I can re-flash any ROM onto it and not the original device ROM?
I mean, could I put some special bootloader on first before flashing or something?
I ask this because for my device there is currently no original ROM (XDA Cosmo) - and I would like to test out some ROMs but am concerned I'll brick my device. I haven't had a problem yet doing it, but who knows - it does seem to happen to people even when they do everything right. And I don't think I'm the only person with this problem.
Any advice from more experienced members?
Thanks

I like your idea and your optimistic view
The problem is, I've read so often: "solve this error by reflashing with your original ROM", just I don't have one... and sofar I've haven't been able to recreate one. I did however hear about downgrading the bootloader before doing a real ROM flash and thought maybe this could be a solution...
Just re-read this: Excalibur Update SPL (USPL) 1.11
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329605&highlight=wm6+excalibur+S620
And read this:
EDIT:
You can now also flash the USPL allowing you to flash any unsigned (cooked ROM or ROM module, e.g. radio or OS) or signed ROM with any model/vendor ID. The USPL substitutes your SPL until you perform a full ROM update. Consider it as an extra insurance in case something goes wrong with flashing cooked ROMs or any other ROM update !
Instructions:
1. Run the USPL (Excalibur USPL- CID BYPASS.zip)
2. Run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe (Excalibur-USPL-RUU.zip)

Does this mean even if something goes wrong flashing, I can still flash something else back (not the original ROM)?
I suppose another question I have is: Is a CID unlock, eg. from IMEI-check, permament?
Check this link to see if your official ROM is listed.

[Q] confused about roms etc.

ok im new to this whole thing so if i come across as stupid then please excuse me. I have searched the internet about this but i couldnt get the answers i wanted to i thought id ask here.
After getting annoyed at orange about the whole froyo update fiasco i decided to debrand my phone and i installed the OTA froyo update, but now reading into roms and rooting (although i dont fully understand it) i want to root my desire. What i want to know is can i root directly from froyo or do i have to downgrade? What do custom Roms actually do? Is it worth getting a custom rom? Is it harder to do beacuse ive debranded?
Thanks to anyone who helps.
You have no need to root so whats the point of thinking that you want to.. enjoy the phone and leave as it is
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
why dont i have any need? whats the point in anyone else rooting? like i said earlier i dont fully understand it. Does a custom rom not change certain things about the phone?

[Q] Telus Omnia i910 Rom

I'm with telus, i flashed my Telus Omnia 1 phone. I wanted to install the system update CF03 on my phone that i found with the Samsung website. i tough it will correct my sms problems. They where not always sended to others.
The problem is like you allready know, it change with verizon drivers, and now the battery doesnt work nor the phone mode. I tought Samsungs os and driver where compatible with all their Omnia. But ... Telus and Bell Omnia doesnt work after installing thoses Rom.
Now, i'm looking for an original telus Rom, or any information if this as been fixed by TELUS or Samsung or even a Cooked rom for Telus Omnia for people like me
that didnt knew all the facts.
Any solution at this time ?
I'll be really happy if one of you can take the time to look for a solution.
All i've find so far is : Cant post the link yet ... (new to this forum)
I really hope there is a solution, this happened to a lots of people. I'm just looking for a way to get it like it was out of the box or (as close as possible).
I just got the phone a few month ago, so i hope i wont have to buy a new one for that mistake.
Seems like you killed the phone part... Flashing that carries a risk. You'll still be able to use the device as a PDA just not as a phone... I'm under the belief there's no solution but you'll have better luck in getting the correct answer at modaco. As you can see there's no Omnia section here at xda.
There is no official omnia section here, however if you search on the top you may find some help.
Also to answer your question about the ROM for telus, you know you can always revert back to the original ROM right?
you need to do a Hard reset and it should revert to the original factory settings, i have done that 2 times when trying to figure out a way to insert the 6.5 Rom on my omnia. I have managed since then to install it without issues and to be honest nothing special.
It's just a plain install without opting to install verizon modules, i also had to change some kernal codes other then that it was fine.

[Q] Bricked because of Radio?

Hey, there. I flashed CM7 yesterday, but I had the GPSbug and WIFI wasnt working that good.
I read in a few threads, that chaning the radio would help solving that issue. So I took the Vision_RADIO_12.22.60.09b_26.02.01.15 form http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809&highlight=Radio and used the rename-update method.
But now the phone wont even boot anymore. I can press whatever combination with the power button... it is dead. Is there anything I can do to get it to work again?
TobiS
Ouch, that sucks. I don't know why everyone ignored this. So bump, cuz I would hate to be in your situation. BTW, I know nothing that could help you
Sent from my SilverBullet "HTCDesireZ running CM7"
I know you mentioned that you tried all key combinations, but did you try power+volume down to see if you can get into the bootloader?
Yep, I tried that. Today I sent my phone in to get it repaired. Hopefully the Service crew wont get it to run so that I get a replacement (cause they cant see that i rooted and bricked it myself) and I don't have to pay that.
I played a little bit dumb and said it happend at an official update... so I'll keep you informed.
In the radio - thread i read, that I am not the only one... so be warned when flashing radios.
Wow, I'm lucky to read your post I guess (well I was actively looking for posts similar to my problem as good netiquette requires ....
I just rooted my Desire Z which required me to downgrade my radio, but I have a similar problem with the gingervillain rom.. Although wifi worked just fine after I rooted the phone and before installing gingervillain....
So upgrading radio is a big nono? Downgrading went just fine....
I'll try a different rom first I guess..
Still leaves me with a few questions... (thanks in advance....)
* Radio is seperate from android custom rom?
* upgrading radio could unroot my phone?
Or should upgrading my radio be just fine.... (well obviously not according to the TS)
I dont exactly know what bricked my phone in the end. I guess the radio zip file was corrupt. The file works fine at other devices. When you use the fastboot method and just use the *.img everything should be fine.
Radio won't unroot your phone and I guess it does not make a difference wether you down- or upgrade your radio. If the file is corrupt it will brick your phone. But that can happen at every change via Bootloader I guess.
Keep us posted on what happens, specifically if they end up finding out you rooted your phone =)
to flash hboot/radio the safest way is always fastboot NEVER EVER EVEREVER in recovery
Ok guys. I was verysurprised to hold my beloved Desire Z in my hands today. The HTC Service Team made it in three days. Compared to other Support I know that is awesome.
But now to the point everybody of you want to know. Obviously the Support Team didn'tget the phone to boot either. They changed the main platine (dunno if this is translated correct)on warranty, so I dont have to pay a penny.
Got the phone now with the 1.82.405.1 Build. So now I have to start the whole rooting thing again... but I guess I wont touch the radio again.
