Flashing, and going back - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Ok well i want to flash to i think the Touch Flow 4.02 rom, however i want to know if it goes wrong how do i fix it? Can i download the rom from the O2 site their XDA Orbit update? and put in my serial an then if i have bricked it get it to load that?? or does that requre WM5 on their initially? If so can someone please tell me some instructions in order to if its bricked get it to bootloader an then be able to install with that O2 update? or can i just connect it an run the update? (Sorry i just want to know there is a way to fix it if it goes wrong an there doesn't appear to be any talk about going back to the factory firmware using the update?)
Any and all help apprectiated!
Thanks

Hi reisyboy,
If you flash in a proper way (meaning; Use USPL to unlock your device every time you flash with a new ROM), you can always go back to the factory ROM supplied by your provider.
I have downloaded the official -updated- ROM of T-M... before I was going to flash my phone. At a certain time I didn't see any improvement with an other ROM and flashed back in no time to factory settings. I have not used USPL for flashing back to the factory ROM. If you are having trouble finding the official ROM, try to find it in the Artemis-WIKI. Very usefull.
Read these instructions very good and you are in business
Grtz and good luck!

Wrong Bootloader

So i was trying to flash to a gps rom from a Bell rom, to get gps and i might have used the wrong unlocker. The bootloader number is 1.01 even though i'm almost positive i ran the ImCokeMan 2.31 unlocker, now i am stuck in bootloader with no roms sticking custom or stock. Any suggestions or ideas?

hmm thats strange. do you have your carriers official os and radio rom? if so, try flashing that, then starting over again. i am going to be making a quick and easy post on how to get to gps/rev a roms here in under 2 min...try giving it a read after you have flashed back.
EDIT: also...tell us all the steps you did so that we can help others in the future/easier diagnose your problem.
good luck and feel free to ask any questions

so what unlockers have you downloaded? what other unlocker could you possibly have used?
try running exitbl.exe round in the rom exe or the ruu folder.
1. so what files were used in the process?
2. what rom did you flash/use (what is "the rom .exe")
3. what carrier are you on?
4. did you let any customizations run on any roms?
EDIT: also, have you given this a read yet? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394039
i would also recommend at least skimming over dharvey4651's tutorial to see if this has happened to any others and he has posted a "how to fix your device if..." kind of a thing for your case.

ROM Flashing Question - Is it possible to safeguard the device for reflashing?

Hello,
I have a question that I have wanted to ask for ages and have never found the answer:
Is there a way I can 'safeguard' my phone so if something goes wrong in the flashing process I can re-flash any ROM onto it and not the original device ROM?
I mean, could I put some special bootloader on first before flashing or something?
I ask this because for my device there is currently no original ROM (XDA Cosmo) - and I would like to test out some ROMs but am concerned I'll brick my device. I haven't had a problem yet doing it, but who knows - it does seem to happen to people even when they do everything right. And I don't think I'm the only person with this problem.
Any advice from more experienced members?
Thanks

I like your idea and your optimistic view
The problem is, I've read so often: "solve this error by reflashing with your original ROM", just I don't have one... and sofar I've haven't been able to recreate one. I did however hear about downgrading the bootloader before doing a real ROM flash and thought maybe this could be a solution...
Just re-read this: Excalibur Update SPL (USPL) 1.11
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329605&highlight=wm6+excalibur+S620
And read this:
EDIT:
You can now also flash the USPL allowing you to flash any unsigned (cooked ROM or ROM module, e.g. radio or OS) or signed ROM with any model/vendor ID. The USPL substitutes your SPL until you perform a full ROM update. Consider it as an extra insurance in case something goes wrong with flashing cooked ROMs or any other ROM update !
Instructions:
1. Run the USPL (Excalibur USPL- CID BYPASS.zip)
2. Run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe (Excalibur-USPL-RUU.zip)

Does this mean even if something goes wrong flashing, I can still flash something else back (not the original ROM)?
I suppose another question I have is: Is a CID unlock, eg. from IMEI-check, permament?
Check this link to see if your official ROM is listed.

Unfortunately not There seems to be no XDA Cosmo ROM image anywhere.

Going to try anyway

Well since no one seems to know. I have the HTC banded Excalibur with the Dodpod 6.1 WM rom. The Dopod WM5 rom doesn't exist anymore. I am going to flash it with the T-mobile WM5 rom on this site. Are there steps I need to take before doing this? If I do and it gets stuck at 3% for wrong factory will the phone then be bricked?
Wifi # 1.333.000
Thanks for the help.
But why flash to an older ROM?
We have great chefs cookin wm6.5 ported ROM´s!!
As long as you read and follow this guidelines you´ll be ok

Once you have the how, go to the proper section and choose a ROM!
There is no better ROM, that will depend on your personal needs, but believe me there are great ROM´s even better than the "official" ones...
Good luck,
Thanks and apreciate the response. But it has more to do with my first post of not being able to sync with PC. I was told that I need to revert the rom to the original. I have no idea what that is and since I can't use the SDA unlock app. I don't know if I don't unlock and it freezes when downgraded if I have an expensive brick on my hands.

I had issues syncing with my PC with WM 6.1. You can flash the original rom ( I used the original T-mobile rom) using the bootloader. With your phone off, hold the camera button and plug in ur USB then hit power button. the Tricolored bootloader screen should appear. You can flash your phone to the original rom from there. Once your phone is flashed, you might wanna think about flashing a WM 6.5 rom since the syncing problem is pretty much not an issue.
P.S. all of this can be found by reading through the threads.

is it not right here?
and to answer your question i believe that you would just need to flash an official dopod rom back onto it(using bootloader)...before proceeding with the reflash to the rom of your choice...the new 3vo rom is nice, by the way

New to flashing htc

I would like to know more about flashing phones specifically a step by step guide on how to flash a phone. I have a mogul (6800) and I would like to see about flashing my phone but I don't know exactly how or how I would reset all my carrier data. I have seen some carrier cabs around but I'm afraid to install anything like that because I do not want to brick my phone and then be screwed. If anyone can just give me some pointers or at least point my in the right direction I would be very thankful.

Read that but...
Ok so I downloaded the RyanMogul Carrier ROM 2.2 Light for MetroPCS. But I need to specific bootloader and radio. I need to download the bootloader and radio install those somehow and then install the carrier ROM, correct? I'm assuming that I will be using activesync the whole time. Do i need to do a hard reset in order to install any of these files? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Orange UK .ruu /rom?

any one got a stock orange uk htc desire rom?? im returning mine tommorrow and i need it asap!
I am looking for the Orange ROM as well.
Whats the reason for returning it? There is a French-based ROM floating about, not sure if that will do the trick...
Stock Orange ROM has never seen the light of day, it's the risk you take debranding your phone
It's a shame, in a way, that no-one did a dump of the system & data partitions from an Orange-branded phone prior to flashing
Well there are 2 options, wait for the official 2.2 ruu to turn up.
or ask someone prior to rooting orange UK phones to take a dump (you will have to talk them through it.)

I am running stock OrangeUK, I made a dump of the system but I didn't know what to do from there. If anyone can help me through I would only be too happy to give it a go!
Can you also dump boot and data please??
Then, if you know how to use FTP, I can give you access to my server to upload them to if you wish and I can host/get a flashable ROM done for those wishing to re-brand
Yeah, you will have to bare with me sorry, have formatted since I got the system folder. Also yes i know how to upload to ftps, will let you know when i have the files though!
How did you dump the orange Rom?
I was under the impression it wasn't possible and
people were waiting for orange based ruu to be leaked on HTC,web
I wish I looked into this more myself now, if it's possible...>_<oh badger
You can dump the stock partitions (system, boot, data, etc etc) the only thing which is needed then is to unpack these images, and to re-package it into a flashable update.
It's not so much a full RUU then, but more of a Clone
Either way, it will still then give the ability to re-flash a stock-RUU-based ROM for Orange, and/or have a stock Orange-based ROM with Root
Soon as I get the files from saitrix, I'll get on with it, and do 2 versions, 1 rooted, 1 stock.
I did a nandroid on my uk orange just after rooting.
Don't know if its possible to re flash the nandroid then do an unroot. If it is then i can zip it up and ftp it or put it on my ftp server.

I have only been able to copy the system folder, it seems the other folders are protected for some reason.

Have you tried reinstalling older radio rom's? .20 works for me tho
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Dude, i'm running some crappy ROM on my HTC Desire, did you ever make the flashable RUU? I NEED IT
Bumping up an old thread here!
It looks like I may have a problem with my Desire's motherboard cos I have constant rebooting problems. I'm gonna need to return my phone to stock before I can send it back for repair.
Did anyone ever have any luck getting a stock orange uk rom?
