Going to try anyway - HTC Excalibur

Well since no one seems to know. I have the HTC banded Excalibur with the Dodpod 6.1 WM rom. The Dopod WM5 rom doesn't exist anymore. I am going to flash it with the T-mobile WM5 rom on this site. Are there steps I need to take before doing this? If I do and it gets stuck at 3% for wrong factory will the phone then be bricked?
Wifi # 1.333.000
Thanks for the help.

But why flash to an older ROM?
We have great chefs cookin wm6.5 ported ROM´s!!
As long as you read and follow this guidelines you´ll be ok

Once you have the how, go to the proper section and choose a ROM!
There is no better ROM, that will depend on your personal needs, but believe me there are great ROM´s even better than the "official" ones...
Good luck,

Thanks and apreciate the response. But it has more to do with my first post of not being able to sync with PC. I was told that I need to revert the rom to the original. I have no idea what that is and since I can't use the SDA unlock app. I don't know if I don't unlock and it freezes when downgraded if I have an expensive brick on my hands.

I had issues syncing with my PC with WM 6.1. You can flash the original rom ( I used the original T-mobile rom) using the bootloader. With your phone off, hold the camera button and plug in ur USB then hit power button. the Tricolored bootloader screen should appear. You can flash your phone to the original rom from there. Once your phone is flashed, you might wanna think about flashing a WM 6.5 rom since the syncing problem is pretty much not an issue.
P.S. all of this can be found by reading through the threads.

is it not right here?
and to answer your question i believe that you would just need to flash an official dopod rom back onto it(using bootloader)...before proceeding with the reflash to the rom of your choice...the new 3vo rom is nice, by the way

I have crossbow rom and will share with anyone who can unbrick my Uni

I have the crossbow rom leaked and then removed from this board yesterday. Sharing the rom is risky, but I'll take the risk to get my Universal going again. I promise to share with anyone who can get my Uni going again.
I'll share the rom but I won't upload to this site or post links. We must protect this great site.
For my bricked Universal see this thread and what I've already tried:

I wish it was stuck in bootloader. But the screen shows nothing no matter what I do.
As I managed to brick it when upgrading the bootloader I'm thinking I've managed to delete the bootloader...
I agree with jorry reflashing the bootloader can help, it was the soultion for me

Thanks, but tried many many times. The PC just doesn't see the device and upgrading bootloader or rom just fails.
if u wrecked youre bootloader i think u have a problem. the only way to flash that rom is to get it out of youre universal and then reflash it using an hardware rom programmer unit.
i doubt it someone is able to help u with this.
good luck
Crossbow
And where to get the Crossbow ROM now ;-)?
So, if its totally bricked then you won't be needing the crossbow rom any more so feel free to send it to me ;-)
I think if you have really nothing on the screen you will be forced to do a RMA
As the others have said there are instructions how to recover it but if you haven't managed it via them then I am afraid it might be a RMA.
You are welcome to PM me with details about the location of crossbow too btw

No not at all. My Uni was bricked long before crossbow appeared. Its been sat in a dark cupboard for 6 months and I only became interested in unbricking it to try crossbow. Sadly I've given up on this one, but glad all other Uni owners have the chance to use crossbow now.
Anyway my current phone is a Wizard so I'm following the Chinese ROM conversion project with great interest.

Stupid question perhaps, but did you ever consider borrowing someone else's fully charged battery to see what happens? A device does not usually die from doing nothing, but a battery might.
Also try to upgrade on radio rom sometimes it bahaves the same as you have mentioned when radio rom is corrupt

How to Remove Start/Splash screen..even after Romupdate it is still there...:S:S:S!!

Hi All,
Hope you could help me out of this little problem.
I have put a splash screen at mine MDA PRO, but as a matter a fact I will sell the phone to my colleague I want to remove the picture (private picture).
I did an hard reset and after that I put the phone into bootloader mode and installed WM 6 so I did an Rom Update! But if I restart the bootupscreen (of my old rom) stays.......
How come and who can help me with this ASAP?
Thanks!!!!
hello
so
try to change(update) the rom version to a new one
Try downgrading to an official ROM. Be sure to downgrade everything even the Radio ROM.
What I noticed among WM6 ROM, even if I upgrade to a different WM6, I retain my modified splash screen. It is probably because all the WM6 ROM available now are all related to each other, meaning having the same OS Built.
Or, just find a TMobile splash screen and re-flash your splash screen. Easy.
thanks but....

who has the dutch windows mobile 5?

Hello,
My brother messed up his P3300 by putting on a WM6 cooked rom before CID-unlocking.
Now we have a tricolor screen, and nothing else. Not even the original rom of WM5. Does anybody have it? or know how to get it?
Country is the Netherlands
IPL is 3.13.0001
SPL is 3.13.0000
thanks.
bye bye
Makje
I do have the original dutch version of WM6 from HTC, but I suppose you can download that yourself om www.htc.com. I guess this should also work?
Hi, thanks for your replay.
Well, i need the original wm5 first, because it doesn't recognise the wm6 original one from the htc-site. Tried that to. But come to think of it, it was an upgrade.
Right now, there's nothing on the device. Only the tricolour screen
thought i try the wm5 first to see if it works.
Hi i got the backup files from the originele Dutch T-Mobile rom WM5. the only thing you need to do is put it together again. you can use htcrt for it.
Hopefully is works for you!

PS ... the backup was also found on this forum.
PPS: try to flash it from SDcard
My Orange SPV M650 is also bricked, has somebody the org. WM5 Orange ROM, thanks in advance.
I do have a dutch WM6 T-mobile ROM and a dutch WM6 HTC rom. One of them may be possible to flash.....
Apart from that. How far did you come? What happens when you push the power button? Do you get to the bootloader?
When I see your IPL/SPL I think you forgot to use USPL before flashing another ROM. You can try to use that now and flash the ROM of your choice.....

Well, I took the rom for WM6 of the HTC site. Like a good girl
It went well until i got to the 3% and it stopped the whole proces. It just shut down. If I push the powerbutton you can see the tri colour screen and the rest is in my very first post. My brother did indeed forgot to use USPL. I know. so then he came to me. Afterwards. Smarty-pants. Now we have a bricked device.
This is what i already tried:
- I tried SD-flashing. Nothing happened. (followed the instructions on the wiki-xda-site)
- i tried to put on the wm6 version of the htc site...got the 3% bit, and that's it.
- i tried to put an alternate rom on it, from the uk-idunnowhich-provider...nothing happened. also tried it with a german provider and with the dutch t-mobile provider, also 3% and than nothing (i.e. tri-colour screen)
so now, all i can think of, is to go back to basics...and just start of with the original wm5 rom. Than use USPL and THAN upgrade it. *sigh*
So that's the whole story behind it.

Telstra branded diamond changing to different rom

I have a Touch Diamond branded by telstra after reading looking through the forum for a while I can't find an answer to a perplexing question ....
Has anyone tried to change the rom on a telstra branded TD to the vodafone rom?
Or has anyone changed to a custom rom with a telstra branded and to what success?
Thanks everyone in advance for help.
While I haven't tried the Vodaphone Rom I have tried a number of other ROM's Dutty's, Swifts, Panosha's Simple, and now Hikari ( i don't like the Tf3d). All have worked well on the Telstra Network. I can't see why it won't work on the Vodaphone network. My nephew's work fine on the Optus network.
To be really honest the only extra functionality you will gain from the Vodafone ROM is the Vodafone specific software and the theme.
If it's just the theme you are after I suggest browsing this forum for one.
Alternatively if you're after the Vodafone ROM for Vodafone SIM... I'd skip that and jump straight onto one of the custom ROMs. The phone performance is a HEAP better than any of the telecommunication company's stock ROMs.
Food for thought.
Im on NextG with Telstra and i have tried nearly every rom here except vodafone.. but the only one flaw with using a unbranded telstra rom is being able to access bigpond.. like with foxtel and all that.. just doesnt pick it up as being a 3.5G phone.
i dunno why.. but i have just put it back to telstra rom and modded it completely myself. if i knew how to take like an image of it i would and post it up here but i wouldnt know one thing about cooking roms lol
I have a Telstra branded Diamond and am using it with an Optus SIM.
When I first got the phone I couldn't get it to accept the Optus settings for Internet access.
So... I upgraded it to one of the cooked ROMS. (Dia Duit and Duttys were tried)
Since then I haven't gone back to the standard ROM and enjoy the better performance.

If you're talking about the Bigpong 'free to browse' page being different the all you need is to change the 'custom user agent' setting in Opera... see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2688822&postcount=260
But anyway... to answer the OP, I've flashed a stack of ROMs from here and am currently happy with CT's latest (HD version). Just remember to keep the original specs (Radio & ROM version no.s) in case you need to revert for warranty.
thanks for all the help
thanks for all your comments
I bought the touch diamond second hand, and didn't realise till after I'd parted with the money it was branded (HUGE newbie mistake) but I haven't bought a new phone for 6 years since I got the Nokia 6620.
I use a vodafone sim, and have it working pretty well, just the last lot of telstra locked stuff annoys me. Thanks to this fantastic forum I have been able to change and unlock most of it. Biggest thing is some things just won't work on it, because the current Telstra rom is 1.38.841.5 (vodafone rom is 1.96.XXX.X) and experience a fair share of the modding apps & cabs have problems or simply don't work.
I was thinking of the vodafone one simply because I'm with them. Also when I was first trying to unlock it talked to HTC and they said I couldn't use the vodafone rom on my telstra branded because the hardware in the telstra one is different to the vodafone one.
Thanks for the help, can anyone suggest the best custom rom, & what else do i need to change roms? I've got a bit of a IT background, just not with phones.
Really love this little phone, and I see potential for tf3d, but long way of modding to get it as I want it.
Thanks again everyone.
I have a similar question, thought I'd save wasting a new thread and post it here.
I've had a Telstra branded Diamond for a few months now, using it with a 3 Mobile SIM, and have had no worries until a couple of days ago, when I started roaming, and haven't been able to reconnect to the three mobile network since..
Any ideas??
The only question regarding Telstra branded Diamonds is returning to original SPL 1.38 for warranty reasons..
just one more thought
another question or two...
If I upgrade to another custom rom will I still have to unlock it after the hard reset?
I've been looking and think I've found the rom I want, but can't find a definitive link for hard spl. I've read the thread that everywhere directs me to and the links that I think are for the unsigned hardspl has the headind stock spls, or am I just misreading this.
Also does anyone know if CT 6.4 is signed or unsigned?
Guys - I understand the confusion surrounding upgrading and flashing ROMs as it was only recently I was in the same position.
So in an attempt to make it a little easier for those reading here I will pass on what has worked well for me...
1. Flash HardSPL as downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=93362&d=1213719705 (it's unsigned but don't worry about that... it saves headaches if you want my opinion)
2. Download the ROM of your choice (as stated earlier - my preference is currently CT's v6.4HD... fast, stable and HD, what more do you want?)
3. Once you have the ROM, extract the .nbh file and rename it to DIAMIMG.nbh and copy this to the root of your internal storage on your Diamond
4. If you're ready to flash (meaning you've backed up whatever you wanna save) then hold the vol down and back button and press the reset button together until you see the tri-colour screen... you're then in the bootloader
5. The phone will search for the .nbh file you placed in memory and ask you to press the power button to confirm you want to flash... obviously you want to do this so sit back while it flashes
6. Once done, reset the phone and perform a hard reset (this is recommended by most ppl although I haven't always done it and never had any issues)
Now enjoy setting your phone up with a custom ROM...
If you want more detail then I strongly suggest you search around and read... it takes time and effort but it's definitely worth it if you want to flash with confidence...
Cheers
not as easy
Sorry if anyone read this orginal post just getting jitters when something went wrong with hardspl flash.
But a soft reset later and its still works. But it raises the question if something bad happens when flashing the hardspl and bootloader doesn't work what can be done apart from throwing phone away?
I assume as long as the bootloader works you can manually redo incomplete rom install?
Something going wrong with hard spl install is my biggest worry, it was a nats ear from happening a little earlier so I'm asking these questions.
Oh & last thing with CT's 6.4 rom what is the real difference between original TF3d and HD? How is the increased screen resolution handled? Do you have to scroll down for the area I cant see, or is it cut off so you can not access it, or is it squished to fit the smaller resolution?

As long as you can access the bootloader you should be able to sort out the phone... personally I've never had an issue with flashing (and on average I've flashed my two Diamonds (a 130 and 100) an easy 30-40 times).
My preference with flashing is to do it from the internal storage (seems the most logical in terms of reliability - and is also by far the fastest) but I'm not sure if HardSPL can be done that way - if it is possible I'd be strongly recommending it - USB connections are just too dicey for something that serious.

Well it done.
A little easier than I was expecting but just as concerning, but over now.
Finally went with CT's 6.4 Original, I can always change to the HD or just add one of the HD add ons.
Everything is running smooth and well. Finally all the testra crap is gone.
Thanks to everyone for their help and kind advice.

Is there a simple way to downgrade to WM6 or WM6.1 after installing WM6.5?

I've read people saying that it is possible to downgrade back to WM6.1 or 6.0 after upgrading to WM6.5. I'm trying out some new ROMs on my Hermes, but I don't want to be stuck with a WM6.5 ROM if I decide that I don't like a ROM after I flash it...
I have HardSPL Olipro on my handset. Say for example I wanted to flash Josh's Dark Winter WM6.5 ROM (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461490). I have the OEM AT&T stripped ROM, and I have the flavour of the ROM I want to flash.
Is there an easy way to downgrade or flash back to WM6/6.1 from this point if I successfully flash the WM6.5 ROM? I've looked round xdadevs and other venues, and the only downgrade guides I can find are mrvanx's SPL guides. I'm sure somebody has written a downgrade guide but I can't for the life of me find it!

At the moment I'm flashing WM6.1 ROMs using the SD card method from the bootloader. Would this still be possible after flashing to WM6.5, or would I have to flash with the USB cable?
You still can use the SD Card method.

You just need to flash the 6.0 or 6.1 with ANY method... its a Hermes not a PSP!
Haha - so it's really that simple? I can just take the RUU_signed.nbh from ANY WM6/6.1/6.5 release, rename it to hermimg.nbh and SD card flash it with HardSPL... and it'll always work fine, no problems?
The reason I'm being so careful is because my Hermes is my only phone, and I have no other phone for at least several months Can't afford to brick my only communications device!

Once you have HardSPLed the Hermes its virtually impossible to brick it. Also the same methodology and process that was used to flash the 6.5 ROM can be used to flash the 6.1 ROM. So do a search, download and flash to your pleasure is contented.
the fact of it being wm6/6.1 or 6.5 is just the os that is in with the rom unlike computers the whole rom is flashed so the os is removed with it.
Have Fun
Well that's cool
I was under the impression that flashing some WM6.5 ROMs did stuff to the radio stack, which then caused problems if you tried to flash back to WM6.1... As long as you've got HardSPL, is this not a problem then?
I've done it many times, just make sure you flash a stock OEM rom first, the different compressions used may cause a problem, which is taken care of by the stock rom. After doing that, as long as you have the hard spl, you shouldn't have a problem.
haha.. guess u didnt finish reading the thread on wm6.5
josh was da one who said its not possible to downgrade but at the end of the thread. he said he was jus joking. lolz
its okay that u flash 6.1 from 6.5. it makes no difference. but always flash a default rom first cos there might be problem if u flash directly from rom to rom. especailly from big storage ones

I got a bit worried after I kept on seeing people saying that it was difficult / possibly dangerous / impossible
My problem is whenever I use xda-devs, I always open 12 threads at once in different tabs - then I flick back and forth from one tab to another reading so many different things at once, sometimes I don't read everything in a thread by mistake. I guess that's served me right hasn't it!

I was wondering why the 6.5 ROM chefs were recommending that you flash the stock AT&T rom before flashing theirs... Thanks for inadvertantly answering that question for me
Thanks also to all who replied to this thread. I couldn't find a single definitive answer on how safe it was to flash between 6.1 and 6.5 (and maybe back to 6.1 again); I've had a look at the various 6.5 ROMs and they seem to be fairly similar - but do people have their own particular favourites which work well and have a decent featureset?
