Internet Explorer problem... - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

my BA wm6 with default browser has this IE problem...
earlier this it works perfectly but when I opened it again it says "The address is not valid. Check the address ang try again."
I can't open the sites I usually open...
why is it like that?
can anyone help me with this??/
thank you..

well, i assume you understand the contents of that error message, the page could not be found!
first of all, you haven't given much information about your device or your internet connection, which would be essential for helping you, so i will give you a few tips what to check
when trying to access an internet site, your device connects to your router or your isp for a general data connection. then it needs a dns service to look up addresses you type in, then they are asked to transfer their data to your isp and then to your router or device.
so, the first thing you need to check is:
- is your data transfer working (check isp settings in device)
- or if you connect via wi-fi, check your router's settings
maybe your isp changed necessary settings
2nd, how good is your connection. sometimes a connection is just not stable enough to transfer data, maybe it worked before because you are right on the edge of "enough" and "not enough"
is your dns working, has it maybe changed?
and after all, have you tried -=downforeveryoneorjustme?=-, a service that will check, whether the sites you want to go to are actually online, or not.
maybe that didn't really help you, but to be able to have a more precise image of what is actually wrong there, you should really post more information, like:
model
rom
ie version
type of data connection
country
isp
does the internet not work in general, or just some sites?
give a sample site
and last but not least (although quite unrelated) do you have any browser add-ins, add-ons, extensions or other BS installed? or do the sites require any extensions like java or flash?

Please help me with wifi!!

I've got an SX66
ROM VER: 1.33.10 WWE
ROM DATE: 1/21/05
RADIO VER: 1.02.10
I setup wireless manager to work on my home network. At the heart is a linksys BEFW11s4 wireless router with WEP enabled (64 bit).
It asked for the security password which I entered but it kept telling me was wrong. Finally it stopped asking me and the wireless manager show that I am connected to the network. It shows the correct SSID, channel etc.
However I still cannot access the internet or anything else on my network. It seems that I am not really connected.
What the H$!! am I doing wrong??
Please help.
Did the router give you an IP address?
I.e. Is the router DHCP enabled?
Happygoat
Yes it does give me an IP address (SX66 set to auto assign)
In reading over your post I started checking my settings and realized the problem.
I have to manually enter the key.
Once I did that...boom I am online.
Thank you for your help.

@HappyGoat
Hi I have had some problems with wifi hope you can help. I couldn’t find anything on this forum about it (maybe I didn’t search well but don’t think so) Listen, I managed to find some hotspots, I used a lot of programmes, like Streethawk, or WIFIFORM(or something like that), and many more, but all I could get was windows popping up to select connect using that and that to internet or work. I tried work, but that is it every time I got the message I couldn’t give you IP or something. like that. My Ip settings is give IP automatically. Am I doing everything ok, or is this problem network issue because I was trying to connect on public hotspot(which might be not accepting connections). And how do I know if the hotspot is accepting connections free of charge? Hope you can give me detailed instructions.
Thanks in advance
ilijamn: I use a programme called "WIFIFOFUM" and when in the programme on the left side of the window is a column called "WEP" which will either say "on" or "off" for a certain connection.. now when it says "on" you cannot use it without a network key(basically a password) but when its "off" you should be able to use without a problem...To connect to a connection while in WIFIFOFUM jus tap and hold the connection and select connect...
now also when that window pops up, its better to sellect connect via "internet" rather than "work"....
I hope this helps you...
@tradivise
Thank you it helped me a lot! But sometimes in WiForum it takes a lot of time to connect, and I tryed a lot of programmes and then I downloaded Street HAwk, It is the best one, at least for me.(the progremme does everything automativly-which is cool). Anyways, i have to ask you smth. else (prob. stupid question), when a network(hot spot) is free of charge do I need to set up IP settings and DNS settings and what is VPN?
Thanks

And is there any pocket web browser for internet that can open multiple widows(tabs)????
Thanks in advance,
Ilija
ilijamn:
VPN - Virtual Private Network, long explanation so just google search it.
IP and DNS should be setup automatically by the network, but some networks require a network key (WEP) which is like a password and without it you cant use their network...
hope this helps, any more questions jus ask!!!!
not sure about multiple tabs, if i find i will let u know
That should do it. Thank you

Wi-Fi security issue - IMPORTANT! please help

As a wifier with a pda2k , how does one know if he has been discovered by the network owner and in addition , where he has gone , not to mention the pda's security . My files can't be looked at can they? I need serious security assistance . My personal data may have allready been compromised! Damn .
Thank you.
(I'll just wait here on a secure network till I can secure my 'lil unit
Treat your PPC as if it were a portable computer running on celeron. As of the moment I can only recall maybe 4 known viri for Windows Mobile. If you are an avid WiFi'er as I am, try to browse your unit from your desptop pc without activesync activated. You might want to port scan the PPC as well. I run an FTP and web server on my unit (for my own purposes), and I have never had any files compromised unless I allow it. If you are really that peranoid, encrypt the files you don't want read without your permission.
Well I'm a Mac guy so browsing on a desktop won't happen. I just need to be able to surf annomously and not have the network owner view me or my files.
The netwqork admin will always know you are using the router because the wifi router assigns you an IP address. No getting around that. But it will be highly unlikely that he can access your unit resources unless you have a backdoor trojan running on your unit. If you don't know, google up "antivirus scanner for pocket pc", and install it.
Hey MACGUY have you seen PocketMAC? It could be useful!
SORRY i didnt mean to hijack your thread!

Thanks . I installed the viri scanner and found nothing. It maybe that the open AP is being tapped by someone else as well as me , explaining the third MAC address. Can this be possible? It's a ff.ff.ff.ff.ff

Connected ti WiFi router, but IE not connecting to Sites

Hey guys, I just recently got my Softbank and upgraded to WM6 this morning. All is good except for my WiFi. The phone is able to connect to my router but when I try to go to sites with IE it gives me this error:
"THe page cannot be displayed or downloaded because connection was lost. Check the connection and try again"
Sites show up fine with EDGE, but IE does not show sites via WiFi. Router even shwos the phone connected to it and that an IP is assigned.
Excuse my ignorance, I am new and any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Click-start>settings>connections tab>wi-fi>network adapters>
make sure your ieee 802.11b/g compatible wi-fi Ad....is connecting you to "The Internet" and not "Work." Cheers
Thanks for the reply. I verified that, checked it and double checked, but I'm still getting the same error. Are there other settings I need to change or look at?
Check these as well...

start>settings>connections>wi-fi:
1. Click on your wirless SSID which should say connected.
2. Make sure it says connected to the internet.
3. Select the "This is a hidden network."
4. Make sure all of your keys/passwords are correct.
start>settings>connections>wireless LAN:
1. Make sure it is connected with good strength.
2. Verify It gave you an ip on the Advanced Tab.
3. Turn the Power Mode all the way up to Best Performance.
In your router verify you are not blocking or mac address filtering this connection. You might want to reserve the IP address for you device MAC.

Worked for myself and others... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300887&page=5
(post #44)
I tried the settings and still no go. I'm using a Linksys router and I have it set up to where the router assigns the phone a specific IP. According to the router, the phone is connected and according to the phone, the phone is connected. Should the GPRS(EDGE) be active and connected at the same time? Cause it is, how do I manually disable it? I feel really stupid if this is why.
prodigalfish: Is that cab only for use with cingular network? I'm on tmobile network, so I'm not sure if I could use that cab. I will do a hard reset though, haven't tried that yet.
Yes It does matter....

TURN IT OFF!!!
Inside of activesync you must tell it allow wireless / data connection. If you press and hold the hangup red button the GRPS connection will drop. You can also turn it off in the comm manager.
Did you ever solve this problem as I am having exactly the same the one.
1. Wifi works fine, can transfer files over the network, Skype connects etc
2. Only PIE (PIEPlus) does not connect to web pages.
I have done everything mentioned here. Hmm

My guess is that the version of PIE you are using (or PIEPlus) has a hard-coded proxy address that your device cannot reach. I use Opera myself, works much better than PIE (IMHO).
John
Have you tried changing the authentication to Shared instead of Open?
This worked for me.
I have the same problem with these newest roms, just after set up 3G connection(Softbank by using ConnSBM).
It worked fine with roms before 5/15th.

WM6 Internet Sharing Port Forwarding

hello everybody,
i´ve checked the wikis and searched through the whole forum but did not find anything related to that. my question is:
my notebook is connected via the internet connection sharing - everything is working fine - but i can´t use some services because i need to forward the ident port (113) among a few others for that.
so, any idea how i can do that? (if possible at all).
any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think port forwarding might be a bit hard.
First thing you need to check is what IP your Tytn gets from your ISP. If its in the private IP range
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
then its not going to happen. Your ISP(ie your telco) is NATing you further up the chain and they are the ones who needs to forward the ports for you.
It doesn't really matter what IP he gets from his ISP - the phone is already NAT'ing the connection. Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to forward ports with the phone.
Ofcourse it does. If his phone is getting a public ip there im sure there is a way to forward the ports.
But if his ISP is doing the NATing then there is no way.
hmm, so you guys think it´s already time to give up hope?
The same question.
I need port forwarding for utorrent client...
When it was WM5, there was a Modem program, so we can easy create and ue dial-up connection on PC! and PC gets real IP from cellular provider...But now WM6 works as Router and PC gets fake IP from mobile device(mobile gets real ip from cell provider)
And we can't do anything
Dmitry: Just because I'm curious: what network you are using and what is the ip subnet you are provided by the operator? So never seen in even one operator, that would provide me with external IP.
Does this do what you are looking for?
I found this app.

IE woes from a confused newbie

Hi Chaps,
I have an o2 xda iis, which I've cherished for many years. A few months ago I managed to upgrade it's original, awful buggy software to wm6.5 which has thankfully put an end to the constant crashing but it has also created a few new problems I was hoping to get some help with.
1) MMS has dissapeared from the messaging menu. I can't send, receive as it's just not there anymore!
2) Wifi connects to my network, assigns an IP but when I open IE (or any other browser), the browser closes immediately. GPRS works fine.
device data :
WM 6.5 CE OS 5.2.21139
wm6.5pro_QVGA HT4.20
ROM DATE 01/01/09
Radio version 1.06.00
Protocol 1337.38
extrom : black kernel
welcome to the forum!
1. mms is not a feature, that is built into the os by standard, it is an add-on application called arcsoft mms, that enables the account in messaging and gives you back the possibility to send, receive and set the mms again. you can find it in the iolite stuff thread, and since you are new, here's the link: -=the link=-
you will find the download link listed under 01.10.2008
2. that is odd!
-would the internet explorer stay open, when you have no data connection at all?
then you could enable the wi-fi afterwards.
-alternatively, do you get a real ip, when connecting to your wi-fi?
a real ip would be something like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x in contrast to 169.254.x.x, which means, the devices uses dhcp and demands an ip from your access point, but is not assigned one, either because there is no dhcp server or 802.1x authentication failed or there is a MAC filter or the network is 54Mbit only, wpa2 or wpa-aes.
that would mean, that you have a corrupt wireless connection and no data traffic would work anyways. in that case make sure, your router is set up right, that a device that can only handle up to wlan-b, wpa-psk could access it and try a static ip in your network.
still i think it is strange, since under no circumstances the IE should crash, with or without a conection. maybe you want to try another IE version or an entirely different rom, if you can's fix that.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony
Wow thanks for the quick response.
I wasn't aware MMS isn't a standard feature. I'll look into that asap! Thanks! I feel educated.
As for the WIFI not working, I think it's something to do with the Sun Dream rom i'm using. I had read some of the 100+ pages (ugh!) and realised I was sposed to install IE8 after the ROM. This seems to have fixed whatever was wrong. Seems weird to me!
ok. maybe that is why that issue is so weird. since you are using wm6.5 i was assuming you also used the new internet explorer. but also, you wrote "(or any other browser)" in your first post and since not all the browsers are based on IE (some are) i thought, if you had the same issue there, it couldn't be related to IE but must be something with the conection itself.
