First off, please accept my apology if this question has been answered somewhere, but I feel like I have checked the farthest corners of XDA developers with no luck............
I cannot not seem to access my desktop computer's folders over wifi anymore...........
now i am no stranger to WM phones in anyway, I've had the mpx 200, 220, T-mobile sda, mda, cingular 2125, audiovox smt5600,and have been tweaking forever and now the Cingular 8525, I am running the LVSW(3/26)WM6 rom
I use to be able to access my folders very easily over my past devices, so I need your help???????????
I think it's a combination of my connection settings, and wifi settings, but who knows..........
anyhow I'd really appreciate anyone's help, until now I"ve been only an addicted reader of this website, so please help , when I go into my file explorer, and attempt to put in the name of my computer(Reuben), it simply tells me it can't be found
afaik resco file explorer lets you browse computers over network no problem on the Hermes. Are you considering WM6 for your 8525??
I just tried connecting to my pc for the first time using Remote Desktop and works like a charm. I used this info to get me through this.

I did not go through all the steps mentioned, all I did was put a checkmark under REMOTE DESKTOP and ALLOW USERS TO CONNECT REMOTELY TO THIS COMPUTER.

Have you got a new router? Check and make sure that its network seperation is off. That stops you connecting to computers over the wireless.

I'm not sure about those devices you used but my iPaq 4155 connected to windows shared files differntly from the file explorer then my TyTN does. I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about.
The way you do it now is from File explorer:
Menu -> Open Path -> New Path
Then enter the network path ie \\Computer Name\Folder Name

Dono - works fine for me. Make sure you're on the same subnet as the computer you are trying to connect to. Also make sure that computer doesn't have a firewall prohibitting connections (MS One Care does this as does I think the default MS Firewall - you have to turn on file sharing)
its just a simple networking. first, u must set your IP for wifi configuration manually & 'use server-assigned IP address' for pocket pc IEEE 802.11b/g bla bla bla as well. use resco explorer or total commander. it is so fun because i can play my huge video stored in my laptop directly in pocket pc even i'm in toilet (make sure file/folder sharing is enabled)
firstly resco is the best for this. if u aint got it, invest.
ensure file sharing installed on pc and u are mapping to the right share and it is all user access if possible
ensure on ur ppc u can connect to internet
try a diff pc to connect to share to limit issues to ppc and not ur pc
turn off firewall altogether
turn aff antivirus antispan and other internet protection
on ppc change wifi to connect to work not to internet
reset all devices.
use ur explorer to map a drive. if it doesnt auto show type it in full.
if all these fail ur gonna need to break this down to simpler stuff n piece meal test using pc to pc before using ppc.
the above also disables some serious security so once working piece meal them back on till u find what cut u off.
oh yeah one other beauty which allows u to change wifi connection type back to internet from work is to go into connections - exceptions and insert ur network ip address range. eg 192.168.* so it knows using this range is not an internet range.
these r some hints. i have had issues but usually pc file sharing, connection type or exception ranges.
failing this and u still need help we are going to need heaps of detail coving the PPC the wifi router and PC.
bearing in mind this should work even if troublesome for u. fiddle. if u can access the internet on ur ppc over wifi then it it is likey to be a pc based issue rather than ppc.

Be sure your firewall is not blocking this traffic. Check all logs to include those from SPAM and WORM protection. I can connect easy with total commander using my \\computer name only. Im still working on the remote display thing.
well, for what it's worth I tried and tried to do this with Resco and with Built in native file explorer and it wouldn't work. Slightly differnent in that I was trying to connect to my Samba server (linux)...but this should work fine, all other wifi PC laptops connect fine.
I read about an issue with this and tried the siggested fixes but I never got it working, annoying. The samba share never showed automatically. wierd.

while trying to follow this advice of an earlier post, (in windows xp) I right clicked on my computer icon on my desktop, went down to properties and selected, went over to the 2nd tab(computer name), and clicked the button for network ID, i selected the computer was part of a business betwork , but that it wasnt on a domain, that caused my main login screen to completely disappear, and now I have to log in my clicking ctrl+alt+del which is a pain, I want my login screen back...........

With Samba and windows I always have to manually configure my etc/samba.conf file. And make sure the user and permissions are set. You can also make it public just for testing. That will make it available for all users. Dont forget to add the same user/password in your linux box.
I am no GURU but my linux shares work perfectly with XP.
I have just managed to connect to my computer folders by using Resco file explorer and mapping network drive. I didn't need to change anything much and it worked straight away. Hope you've sorted it.

The 192.168.1.1 is as far as I know only valid if the router has the 192.168.1 range. For me it should be 192.168.123. ...

I tried the steps to the letter however, I am unable to connect. I tried on one device running Schaps 3.54c & the other vp3G. I get confused after I complete the step "select wireless tab then add new." The new wireless network shows unavailable on my device" I think I'm unsure how to configure the connection on the PC side. I'm unable to get the wireless configurator to allow me to input a specific IP address. I'm using Windows XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using wifi to access the Internet, and the phone and PC both have wifi (in order to use wifi sharing), why not just access the wifi directly from the PC? Sorry to be thick, but I don't see why you would want this?

Actually, it came from this site - we've been discussing it for days in the Development and Hacking forum! It was in this post by Fluxist who'd discovered it in the first place, and the other sites have been following suit... we're working on a more elegant way to do it now. And you directly quoted his post!
I'm going to be trying to write a full-on NAT router for it I think, although we're seeing if we can do a basic version for now.

I was thinking the same thing. I frequently stay in foreign hotels in which are "unwired." I'd love to use my phone as the registered device when buying wifi so that I could make VOIP calls and check my e-mails on ground and tether it to my notebook back in the roam. In Dubai, you can get hooked for $30 a day for wifi.

Just updated my HD7 to the update with internet sharing. After this, I can confirm that every time I reboot my phone, I get a new mac address. Which prevents me from connecting to my MAC-address-filtered wifi. I've done it 6 times and gotten 6 unique MAC addresses.
Does this happen to anyone else's phone? HD7 specific? or all phones with internet sharing? My internet sharing is turned off.
That's strange, I've never heard of a device with a dynamic MAC address before. Does your phone have one printed under the battery?
Nope, just IMEI, SN and PN. No MAC address.
This must be related in internet sharing somehow.

I can confirm this on my HD7.
MAC changes on every reboot.
I confirm too,i have the issue of mac adress changing every reboot
& my wifi is not visible since the update,My wifi is N and i can only see wifi G near me but not mine

That's a bit strange. Normally you can't change MAC's for yourself, only spoofing is possible. If WP is really changing the MAC adress with every reboot, WP needs a valid MAC adress block licensed from IEEE, otherwise it would be a violation against IEEE.

Yes, mine also changes it's only when i read this thread and test my hd7 and i notice the changes.But I S is a breeze.
The issue is that some people assign static IPs to devices on their home networks, and this is done in most routers via MAC address coupling (MAC a always gets IP z and so forth). That way you can simply block all devices you and people in the residence do not own. I do it on all my machines for development reasons, cause I like knowing I can always use x IP address to get at a certain machine even if I turn it off or it's down for a while for repairs. The IP never changes as long as I continue to use that specific network card in the computer.
I don't know why they would do that. Perhaps for security reasons?
I have the same problem - cannot connect to my University WiFi network as the MAC address keeps on changing....

It's trivially spoofable by anyone who actually wants to attack your network, and causes a pain in the arse for yourself. do yourself a favour and disable it already. the only thing it might be good for is router-side internet access control of your technically challenged 8 year old who doesn't know how to use google.
just use a strong password i.e. 20+ characters alpha (upper & lower) + numeric + special characters, and proper wireless security (WPA-2 AES, or at least WPA AES) and you'll be just fine.

That update was a bag full of $$$$ !Luckly I was able to restore through Zune,but my Bootloader (SPL) was also updated to 5.01 and no way of going back!
With regards to the missing WiFi network - make sure it's not using Channel 13. The new update seems to disable the use of Channel 13 for some reason.
There is also another issue with the changing MAC's - I believe that some "public" WiFi networks such as the cloud use the MAC to remember your device and allow it to connect...

Mac filtering is not useless as a security measure. It's not used by itself. It's used in conjunction with other methods, the same way businesses also hide their wireless network's SSID.
I'm not filtering on an Open Connection. That would be retarded.

im not sure though but im guessing so does other apps with secured log in parameters. i do have the bank of america app. right after i did the update, and after inluding the new mac to my networks allowed list of mac addresses, the boa app again posted a message saying that the device where im accessing boa has not been used previously to access the account. so im guessing that it saves all the mac addresses of devices that accessed a boa account.

Recently I've purchased the Swann DVR8-1425 security system.
I've been able to connect it to my home network successfully. I can remote view the cameras through my T999L (no root, completely stock) on WiFi through the SwannView app, but as soon as I put it into mobile data, it shows me a message of not being able to contact the server. I'm assuming if I were at someone elses house on their WiFi, it would be the same result. Same issue on my Dad's S2, rooted, running Infamous 3.0 in the T989 forums.
I've messed with most, if not all the settings I can possibly use with trial and error. When it comes down to it, obviously there's only the one setting that works with my WiFi (the given IP address from the DVR and a server port given: 9000) and it won't connect with mobile data whatsoever (2g, 4g, or LTE). I've tried using HTTP port 85 instead of the 9000, a preferred DNS server in place of the IP address, turning on and off UpNp (not really sure what that does). Absolutely nothing. Server connection fail each time when using mobile data.
I've disabled the firewall in hopes of it working, but I've had no luck. Haven't reset the router, assuming I just unplug and replug but other than that, I'm out of ideas. Not sure what else I can work on besides the firewall, if that even does anything.
The Swann software installed on my Mac does work, but haven't had a chance to test it somewhere other than my home network. It could work, but I wouldn't know at this point. Just more concentrated on the mobile data issue.
My knowledge is small when it comes to this networking stuff. Connecting to a WiFi hotspot is about as easy as it gets for me lol. I just got lucky with trial and error for setting it up with the home network. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this or ideas that may come to mind. At the worst, I won't be able to remote view anywhere other than using my wifi, but it will still record at least.

Seems to me you should test the remote connection elsewhere before you start troubleshooting a problem thst may not even exist. If its not configured correctly to do what you want, its not going to work across the internet which would include the mobile data.
Make sure you can access what you want remotely, then test over mobile data. Unless I read that wrong it doesn't sound to me like you've done this. You can test the mobile data connection all you want, but if its not working remotely by any other means you will be wasting your time. (Unless you got lucky and configured it correctly, but as you said, youre not very experienced with this).
Until you verify it does work remotely, there's no reason to assume its your phone or T-Mobile that is the problem.

You'd probably find better support by going to the equipment website and router website.

After read this earlier, I facepalmed myself and went to go test this out. Drove over to Starbucks a few minutes ago, connected to their wifi through my phone and it didn't connect Hmm...definitely a router setting then. The dvr itself is connected to the router by an ethernet cable. Just a matter of figuring out how to configuring the router settings. Thanks!

Hey. I came across this page looking for a solution to a similar problem. My new swann system connects fine with my phone on Orange but wouldn't connect to my partners identical phone on Vodafone via mobile Internet. Both worked on wifi. I solved by asking Google for my ip address, then going onto the swannview link app, under my device is a button to edit, on the edit page where it has p2p if you tap the line it gives you another option to connect with ip, then enter your ip where it says host. Save details with icon in top right and log in. This solved my issue, hope it helps anyone with the same issue.

I am also using Lorex wireless security camera for my home but till now I am not facing any issue because all configuration is performed by experts. But I have two fixes for your issue.
Either contact with Lorex Support Team for help or follow steps:
Check with your mobile data service provider to confirm if they allow streaming of constant information over their network.
Configure a lower substream video resolution in your DVR / NVR settings to reduce mobile data usage and increase your connection speed.
If you cannot connect to your cameras using an LTE or IPv6 connection, switch to a 3G connection.
If you are using a device ID through your mobile plan, set up a Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) to eliminate the need to pass through the Stratus / FLIR Cloud servers.

I am trying to connect my LG G4 815 to my notebook. But with every app I tried (f.g. SambaDroid, SambaServer or even the FTP variants) my phone is unreachable from notebooks. The device is rooted.
Furthermore I am not able to ping the device from different notebooks, nonetheless they are all connected to the same wifi and the notebooks are able to ping each other. And the other way round I am not able to ping any notebook from phone with terminal emulator, while ping to router or websites works well.
If anyone has an idea or solution I'd appreciate.

this has nothing to do with the phone itself. I'm guessing that the AP isolation on the router is turned on, or your notebooks firewall are blocking local access.

I suggest you try WiFi File Transfer from the playstore. I used to use Samba but found this app works much better, for my needs anyway, and never gives me any problems connecting. If your guess would be correct, I would not be able to ping *each* device among *each* other (no matter if Windows, Mac OS, Ubuntu or Windows Phone, ok the last is one-way only because of OS-Limitations)...
So there is no local access prohibited. The only device which is not able to be pinged or ping itself is the phone.
Even if I deleted everything from the router/ phone and reconnected afterwards with a new IP it was exactly the same behavior. For me this looks like this is all about the phone.

whoops, I read the "furthermore I am not able to ping..." and misread the next part as "... and the notebooks aren't able to ping each other". sorry about that!
but as far as I know, default android phones do not have firewall that blocks ping. I assumed that you didn't modify the phone, so the problem should be located on the router (or laptop) itself.
I'm going to try some ftp servers on my phone and I'll notify you the result.
I have tried this FTP server and it works

And I also tried SambaDroid and it works as well.

I am still not able to get any of the apps - even the one you mentioned - to run on my home network.
A static ip doesn't change a thing, but I tried it today on a different network with my notebook and phone and it worked like a charm.
Some kind of funny and unexpected, because every other device works without any problem in my home network. Also tried to reset my router to factory but still the same.
So I guess I have to change the hardware of my network. But you're absolutely right in your first post -
It is NOT about the phone, sorry for that
