I'm looking to upgrade soon, and where I live, AT&T is the only real option as a provider. I've checked out google, and got a lot of different information (Everything from it being named the "Fortress" and having a QWERTZ keyboard lol)
So, I was wondering if anyone had any idea?
Thank you, Boykin
AT&T will be getting it, as the Tilt 2. Launch date is up in the air, though some signs point to Oct 6th, which is WinMo 6.5 launch day.

"Pre-launch" listing here http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...p-blackberry-9700-htc-tilt-2-garmin-g60-more/
Not much new since then, just conjecture.
I'm waiting impatiently for it as well as plenty others around here.
I'm relly happy to hear that!
Thank you very much for the info. I just hope they don't do the dedicated number pad to the right, like shown in the pictures of the "Fortress," and I'm sure the QWERTZ keyboard was a fake.
It'll almost 100% be the QWERTY keyboard with numpad as shown in the pic I linked.
The Tilt 1 and Fuze are the same way with the numpad unfortunately. And there are plenty who prefer the top row as numbers, but AT&T doesn't like listening to us
http://pocketnow.com/html/portal/news/0000007448/NewsImage/fortress.jpg
That's the image I saw originally, and it looks pretty dumb in my opinion.
Yeah that pic is super old. The one I linked is an actual in hand AT&T Tilt 2, so that's what it should look like in final form.
I figured as much. Thank you very much. Now, just to wait it out and hope this ancient phone I'm using lasts.
here is the actual phone...man that mock up is really old

search theres quite a few thread on ATT release date...now its confirm to have 3.5 jack and maybe a end of september release...
yes the picture does show its running on 6.5...if they gonna release it with 6.5 then the earliest we can see it is OCt.6 official WM 6.5 release date

As more and more Chef end their awesome work on the Hermes because they´ll buy a new device like MaHaRoX and Schap or brick their Hermes like PaY87 or Abusalza (PDA Corner), time for Hermes seems to come to an end after almost three years on the market.
Which device will be your next?
I think Touch Diamond Pro (Raphael)
Even jasjamming will cook again for that device. Check the new Raphael thread and you will see how many chefs are going there..
That was my first idea also - the Raphael.
What about the SE X1? It´s also produced by HTC, I guess.
i going to Raphael too...
my first thought: iphone 3 g or raphael
after second thought : raphael
Hi,
i hope htc have at next year 5 megapixel camera and real flash.
This 5 MP (more is better) Device is my Favorit.
The best mobile camera and real flash is in Samsung SGH-i8510.
Also not bad would be a GPU.

i will stick on the hermes threads for unknown period. still waiting to get new 2nd hand hermes. i hope my old hermes came back on good condition (if possible) from repair centre. i 'll sell it to buy new device (hope with one i can handle 4 flavour of my rom).
i will keep my new hermes coz to many people have contribution for give me one. thanksssssss for all donators and hermes community
Im quite tempted To get a Raphael, blow my student loan on it, though I only just got my Hermes.
The problem is, that I normally get the phones when the great guys here at XDA have sorted out all the annoying problems (first Blue angel now Hermes)
Ill have to see what the early reviews ect say, and how many problems pop up.
I was thinking about getting a Kaiser, but its just the same phone with more ram, and iffy vid drivers ;/
"blow my student load on it"
hey keep it civil!
I am hoping to get a Kaiser within the next 2-4 months. Love my Hermes to death, but I would love to have built in GPS and a bit more available memory. Since I have T-Mobile US, I'm trying not to get anything too extravagant since they're slower than a snail to roll out 3G.
I'm going to stick with Hermes until Touch Diamond Pro comes to at&t in USA...looks like I'll see the rest of you guys in 2010.
Don´t worry! The Raphael is even not out in Germany until now.

The AT&T 3G friendly or the (alleged) T-Mobile 3G friendly?

Woopss! I blame Firefox spell checker and proofreading! sorry! all fixed now
I have been drooling over the Touch Pro all day, maybe if I can get it for £400
It will be my first "new" HTC phone!
Omnia
I'm thinking that the Samsung i900 (Omnia) will be my next device after the Hermes. Still WinMo, so I'm sure ROM updates will continue in my future, but it looks like it has everything that I want. We shall see -- I do love HTC devices...
maybe one of these.
touch pro, XPeria and omnia.
hmm
For me will be a kaiser, known issues already been 'fixed' by the doctors here, and plenty support. after that I will get a raphael, after it has been in distribution for two or so years.
same choose. in the end of year, or maybee later will jump to kaiser. when all troubles whith raphael gone, and his price become more polite. I realy love the backslide qwerty, only thing I miss is a little more bigger display.
Can anyone tell me, is a kaiser much faster than a Hermes, with the new drivers ect?
I just watched a vid of the touch pro, quite speedy, even with HTC's default rom.
Anyone got any pics of a kaiser running a new rom in action or anything? GPS would be nice, but I dunno if its much of an overall upgrade.
raphael???
hmm that's a dream for me now
but if i able to cook rom for this one, it will give me more experience
Hey there,
I think about getting a TP2.
Would you recommend it? What about the phone qualitiy and the touchscreen (I don't expect it to be like the iPhone, but I do not want to use the stylus all the time - I'm very surprised of the TD 2! Is it compareable)?
I'd like to have a fast phone I do not need to reboot every second.
Is even WinMo good enough nowadays?
Maybe Android is better for the future since HTC develops more Android-Phones by now? Or could it even be possible to put Android onto the TP2?
There are a lot of threads like htis out there. In short, The screen is better than the diamond. Seems a bit more sensitive but probably becausei t's igger. you won't need the stylus a lot. Questions like: is WM good enough or is it better to go android aren't to be awnsered quickly. It depends on you personal needs. I would search the forum a bit because there is a lot of info en oppinion about these subjects
Welcome to the XDA forums!
A word of advice - search before starting new threads, or you'll get flamed. There are a number of other threads already here about the merits of the Touch pro2 & most of your questions could be answered by looking around the existing threads.
I'd recommend reading & watching reviews and reading the forums - you'll get all the info you need from them, and then if it seems good you could even try a TP2 out at a local shop.
I think everyone I've heard from would fully recommend the TP2, and I would too - I don't think you'd be disappointed.
As everyone says this has been asked many times, I myself am guilty of it too.
I will try to put it in as short paragraph as possible:
Build quality is good if you put in perspective exactly what it is and what it can do for you
Screen is excellent albeit finger print prone, but what do you expect
Touch screen - no problems whatsoever
Keyboard - Have not used it yet, the touch screen is good enough for me! I use it ALOT
Win Mobile - Masked very well by TouchFlo
Features - Where do you want me to start? it does everything!
Battery - Incredibly good considering what you can with the phone (2 days so far since a 12 hour charge with moderate use - internet/emails/facebook/twitter/sms/one phone call)
My advice - go and see both the TP2 & D2 in a store, the Diamond 2 is a very good phone and if you dont need the keyboard and a more powerful battery (regardless of what magic HTC did with the D2 battery, its still under-powered) then I would seriously consider the D2 aswell.
if you really need physical keyboard, then go for TP2...
I myself used to have blue angel for about 5 years, and maybe only used the physical keyboard once or twice.. hahha... its useless for me... got tired of carrying bulky phone..
now, I am using D2 and didnt regret it at all... I love the size, its small enuf as a phone, but the screen is big enuf to do stuff... and dont forget about the price too, its a lot cheaper than TP2, with the same specs

funny............ don't worry mate its a no brainer! superadvan gave it to you in a nutshell and was spot on! td2 though similarly spec'd is rather dull and under performs IMO! very rushed update to the highly populae td1 and HTC got it wrong again. tp2 on the other hand is a very refined device and everything works as it should even touchflo, yes i said touchflo. winmo is very well hidden behind manila mask but alas some of the old drawbacks remain. however once hardspl is released for this device there will be many custom roms available with winmo 6.5 you will be very pleased. winmo is not totally finger friendly at moment but nohing wrong in using stylus every now and then!
I would rather have a WM based phone over a Linux based phone anyday.
My wife had a linux based phone before and the thing kept dropping the bluetooth connection - not a good thing when needed for hands free.
So will t-mobile offer a rom upgrade to 6.5 for the touch pro 2? And if so could some one post a link to the info.
Sorry if this upsets anyone, I used the search feature and really didn't find any thing on this.
Also I looked on t-mobile's site and htc's site as well and couldn't find any info on this.
Thanks in advance too anyone that could shed some light on this for me!!!!
I read a note some week ago that T-mobile would offer a free download of WiMo6.5 for their customers. I don't remeber exactly where I read this.
It would seem likely that all the different carriers will offer official upgrades to 6.5 but only HTC and the individual carriers know for sure. Normally they don't release any official communications until they actually release the upgrade.
Sometimes someone at the carrier who is in a position to know what the plans are will leak said plans to someone on the outside and then you see a bunch of posts about it here. You have to treat such posts as hearsay and take them with a grain of salt as they often turn out to be untrue.
Short story - you will know if and when your carrier is going to release 6.5 the day they release it.
S
When HTC did their training for the Dash 3G And Touch Pro 2 with some Tmo employees we were told that the Touch Pro 2 would be getting a free upgrade to 6.5. Not sure when though...
I'm staying with T-Mobile as I really like my tariff, but when it comes to phone ROM updates I cannot stand how they usually seem to be the last to deliver (correct me if I'm wrong). Also I must add that through flashing ROMs via this site, I have seen that certain vendors hide features of the phone via their customised OS. That's all good for SLAs and manageable support etc. , but it does get to the point when you feel like not sticking to the rules. Just like the way a home harddisk recorder comes with say a 80Gb HD. Guaranteed you'd see stuff about upgrading it yourself.
I made the jump from a TMo Kaiser to getting an unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2. WM6.5 goes through a wizard which allows you to configure the phone with the settings from your service provider. Seems Ok for me. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is looking good.
I like many others am also anxiously waiting for the update from T-mobile. The only feature that T-mobile hides is FM radio AFAIK, but that can be easily fixed by installed the cab file on this website.
As for the front camera for video calling, then all I can say is "oh well, it's t-mobile". It doesn't even have the opening for that, and I doubt that little camera is included at all. Other than that, absolutely no complaints especially considering the my other phone before this was the wing.
T-Mobile USA will release an update.
All Windows Mobile updates are posted at the link below.
http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/
When T-Mobile USA release an update they will post it.
I have the tp2 for tmobile i would like to know if i can get the official upgrade to 6.5. i know that tmobile doesnt plan on releasing an update anytime soon. so i would like to upgrade maybe to the officail uropean version. if anyone could please provide me a link
thank you
you will need to wait until HTC actually releases their ROM....
spoke to T-Mo USA Tech Support, Thy promise 6.5 upgrade by the end of the year. (I hope)
so much over the excitement of 6.5 being released today
Is there a 6.5 rom from xda that will work with tmobile tp2 with touchflow 3d and the weather icon on the flip clock and not lose my 3g, text, or mms and also not have buggs
Lol I feel like I'm asking for too much
Direct link if possible please......
I think it's only good it takes a while longer. maybe we can have some of the touchflow 3d 2.5 abilities extra when the update comes out. Besides the weather.

ha...remember Tmobile also said that the TP2 was $279.99...then a couple days later they change their minds to $349.99, And they wouldn't even budge for loyal customerssssssss.
Status on Microsoft Web Site for 6.5 update
This URL clearly identifies the Touch Pro 2 as a phone eligible for the 6.5 update but no date available as of yet:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm65-upgrade.mspx#phoneList
Yea that list states the tp2 european version is eligible for an update but the tmobile touch pro 2 gets its own update from tmobile and so will other carriers according to the rep I spoke with from the htc hotline I really think that the european version update will come out 1st on the htc website before anyone else
Tmobile has absolutely no info about where they stand on the winmo 6.5 update. So if anyone on the phone says it will happen they are just taking a guess. Tmobile has allowed updates before with devices like the dash but they have really ignored their winmo customers this time around since they are trying to push forward with android. The last minute price change on the TP2, the lack of training for the device, and overall confusion around the product has really screwed up what would have been a good launch. Now that we have the marketplace this is completely going to change what we can do and it will in time compete with android and apple. Also I have talked to tech support many times and I am an internal employee and I am pretty disgusted with how they are dealing with customers who have bought their most expensive device. On a positive note I am very impressed with XDA developers and hope to see the official release so I can finally get the update this device deserves.

the german t-mobile site has the 6.5 update out already. installed it yesterday...
So this update should work on tmobile tp2 usa? And can you provide the link
well i doubt it works in the US and I doubt you would want a german language version hu?
The Update for the german "MDA Vario V" (which is the TP2) is here:
http://www.t-mobile.de/fremdcontent/1,2790,131619,00.html
.... does anyone know if the htc skin in the official 6.5 upgrade will be the same as the sense interface that the HD2 has... with the panoramic kinda view in the pictures tab and all!!?
Well you can change the language but your probably right it probay won't work here
For those of us who do not have a TP2 yet (waiting for att), hearing now that the leo will be released in the coming weeks in Europe and the US in Q1 of 2010, would you still buy the TP2? There is no doubt it is a great phone but with the Leo 5 months away at most for the US market, does it pay to buy it now when Att releases it or wait for the Leo?
What are you guys doing (or would do)?
Absolutely not! You should DEFINITELY wait for the Leo...
... oh but wait, when it's finally time to get Leo, the next new line from HTC will be available in 5~6 months time. Maybe you should wait for that instead!
(Quite a pickle of a "vicious cycle" you've gotten yourself into.)

Normally I would agree with you as there is always something better coming out, but that is normally a year away or so. Q1 2010 can be anywhere from 3-5 months and isn't the longest wait.
depends on what you want from a device. If you want a HW keyboard, go for the TP2. If you do not need this, wait for the Leo/HD2. On the other hand, new devices are released so fast, you will always be confronted with the question buy or wait. Choices, choices, ......

WRONG. What we can all clearly see is that HTC has staggered the release of the HD/Leo line vs the Diamond2/TP2 line. Maybe there are two separate development teams working on these devices... or simply maybe, they did this for marketing reasons.
Therefore, it is very safe to assume that once Leo launches, TP3/Diamond3 or something along those lines will only be a few months off.
Given this, you're still stuck in the same pickle I mentioned earlier.
My thought is this, Q1 2010 in the US but no specific carrier yet.
If you are going to be waiting for AT&T to get the Leo it will likely come out months after everyone else. And that puts it in iPhone 4G range, so they won't launch it then. The likelihood of AT&T releasing it at all is very slim.

Seconding this. The Leo kind of rules but there's no question in my mind that when it is released I will still want my TP2. I don't know if I'll ever be sold on soft keyboards.
Thirding this! Even when the HTC Leo/HD2 hits the street, I will stick to my TP2!
Fourthing this as well, I want hardware keyboard and hand writing recognition of which the Leo has neither
Common sense
We have to realize that manufacturers/media folks are forcing us/trying to convince us to buy the latest devices. They' re releasing/reviewing device after device with the speed of light with even more impressing specs after months of speculations about a particular device (FI the Leo). They want us to drool over these new devices and have sleepless nights on what to do. They do not care about that, they just want to sell or stay popular. All in all, we are in principle the fools who run after them, always wanting the newest of the newest without asking ourselves: do we need this device or are we happy with our current device. Furthermore, if we look at the customer service companies are given us (alas to say, with the exception of Apple) after having bought a certain device (FI the HTC Touch HD), you will be very disappointed: no real upgrades, just hot fixes. If we want companies to change their selling policy, we have to stop "this devices rat race". Of course I know that there are people who always want the latest, but nevertheless I think we have to bring this rat race to an end and ask for more customer service for the device we just bought.
For anyone excited about purchasing the Tilt2, as I have been for the last 4 months, then seeing the Leo and the specs of that phone, I've decided to wait until Q1 2010 for the Leo. The main reason is, you get the phone with specs no one can touch at that time. If you purchase the Tilt2, spec wise, it's not that much of a difference over the Tilt (other than WM 6.5). My contract has been expired for the last 4 months. However, I am not going to sign a 2-yr. commitment for the Tilt2, when in the 2nd year of that contract, people will be using phones with WM 7.0. At least waiting for AT&T to possibly release the HD2, then signing a 2-yr contract at that time- you would at least have the experience of upgrading to WM 7.0 because the HD2 will meet the minimum requirements. Those purchasing the Tilt2, will be stuck with WM 6.5 for the life of the phone. And as some of you have thought while reading this (there is no way AT&T will sign a contract to sell the HD2 because of thier love affair with the iphone), I'm ready to bolt to the first US cell carrier who will offer this phone. I'll give them my two years, instead of AT&T releasing hacked up keyboards. And that leads to the last decision. If you must have a keyboard, you can go for the Tilt2, but I believe with the screen size of the HD2, the touchscreen keyboard will be so broad, there will be the slightest of chances to tap an incorrect key. I will enjoy the iphone experience with this HD2, with the added bonus of HTC touchflo 3D platform, and the opportunity for more customization than the iphone could ever offer. Here's hoping AT&T picks up the HD2 as soon as possible, but if they don't, it's been real, and it's been fun, but the my AT&T experience hasn't been real fun.

+1, excellent point. The HTC Asia/EU TP2 was released what... 4~6 months ago? Chance of you seeing a Leo at any of the US carriers in 5 months is slim to none.
I'm going for the TP2. By the time the Leo comes out with U.S. 3G compatibility, WM7 will be closer and with it, many new devices. Also, the Leo's specs are the minimum requirement for WM7. I think next years phones will blow the Leo away. If I could get a Leo today, unlocked and with U.S. 3G, I would, but I think the TP2 will hold me for a year at least.
Absolutely going with the TP2. Mainly no hardware keyboard, but also that the next phone I buy I want to come stock with WinMo7. Sure the Leo has the specs for it, but will HTC be updating it to 7 almost a year later? Obviously the cooks here will be porting it, but I'd rather be sure. Plus the next snapdragon cpu is going to be dual core @ 1.5GHz. Count me in for that one
As stated before
TP2 definetly!!
hardware keyboard is a must for me, even if Leo has better specs.
By now TP2 is the best hardware keyboard device on the market, perhaps when TP3 is anounced...
get tp2
if you need now then Get TP2 its available now otherwise Definitely wait for leo
If you're in Europe, wait for the Leo (unless you particularly need a hardware keyboard or you need to use it wearing gloves). If you're in the US, get a TP2.

Depend on your needs. If you like hardware keyboard go with TP2 or wait for a kind of TP3. Otherwise I would wait for Leo..
I'm pretty happy with TP2 and will only change it for a Leo with hardware keyboard.
Why do you guys make everything so hard. Buy the TP2 and when the Leo comes out get that. Sell off your TP2 on ebay or wherever and take that money as a subsidy against the Leo. Should be very simple. That's what I'm going to do. If I don't like the Leo (doubtful) I'll just return it.
