There was a rumor that the TP2 would be a hybrid of GSM & CMDA. I have not been able to find confirmation the phone can indeed be unlocked to use both.
The Telus branded one supposedly can be? Has anyone ever unlocked it for use on both GSM & CDMA successfully?
Also, anyone know if the Sprint/Verizon version coming out soon will be the hybrid version?
I have the Telus one and have sim unlocked it. I have been able to use it on Telus as well as using my SIM on AT&T in the states.
the verizon one probably, will likely give u 900/1800 and lock u into only CDMA in the states.
You can absolutely unlock the GSM/SIM functionality. I have the Telus TP2 and have done so. You cannot, however, unlock CDMA at all. So the Telus phone will always be on Telus Network (or roaming partner) when in CDMA mode. You can use any GSM network though when unlocked, including Rogers, ATT, I'm sure T-Mobile too... I've tried Rogers and now using Optus in Australia. Getting HSUPA in Oz, no sweat. You'll usually have to get the internet settings from the web or your new GSM provider as every phone is usually factory set for the original provider's network info.
Sprint's TP2 has both and is going to market it as such.

That is not necisarily true, you can use the NAM2 function and run another CDMA carrier on the other NAM. Before I had my Sim unlocked I was running Telus on NAM1 and PagePlus on my NAM2. The only issue is you have to find a carrier that will allow other carrier esn's in their system.

Does that apply to using one CDMA and one GSM (SIM card) as well? Or both must be CDMA?
Obviously can't be both GSM as there is only one SIM card slot.
use can only use the nam 1 &2 for cdma
Wait, so if we unlock the Telus Touch Pro 2, can we use it on Rogers' 3G network? Does it have the neccessary bands to function? (850mhz umts)
Thanks

I used the information posted by leanne and got an unlock code for my Telus Touch Pro 2 within an hour after buying the code on eBay for $13 USD.
I have tested it with my friend's Rogers SIM card and I can report that I was able to register with the network and got GPRS (at first) then Edge connection.
I was also able to make calls via the Rogers network.
Didn't try connecting to 3G services though.
I'm quite pleased with the results as is. Being able to connect to North American GSM networks is an unexpected bonus as I had only expected to use GSM networks when I am travelling in Europe or Asia.
Hope this helps
awesome. thanks for the info. No wonder those TP2s are selling for so much more than the Tmo's!

is that on a gsm network like at&t/tmobile or a cdma network like verizon/sprint?
does 3g work as well?
Simply does anyone have verizon [email protected] working on at&t!?
GSM
I am guessing the Verizon TP2, Telus TouchPro2 and Sprint TouchPro2 have the same internal guts.
Once you unlock the TP2, you can install a ATT SIM.
Today, it only works on 2G technology, I believe there are some RON cooks that are looking to unlock the 850/1900 UMTS bands. When they are successful (TobeyChris, I have confidence), we should be able to run TP2 on ATT 3G.
Out of curiosity, will the Telus TouchPro2 support 3G on TMobile US?
With the Telus phone, right now you can forget 3G on the At&T and Rogers/Fido network.
It's been covered a few time and I commented on a recent thred if you want more details.
I will try to get a Fact sheet of all the TP2 and the supported band with the different networks they can run with their capabilities. These question keep popping up and answers could be stickied!
As mentionned I beleive the Telus and the Sprint have the same internal components.
Telus:
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/QC/htc_touchpro2_t7379/index.shtml
3G EVDO Rev A (800/1900 MHz), UMTS/HSPA (2100 MHz), GSM/ EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
Sprint as less details:
http://insidesprintnow.wordpress.com/2009/09/05/htc-touch-pro-2-fact-sheet/
Digital Dual Band / International Quad-Band capability
Read: 800/1900 EV-DO RevA (I think)
and GSM/Edge 850/900/1800/1900
Also both have the same chipset I beleive
Processor/Chipset: Qualcomm® MSM7600™ 528 MHz
i understand the requirement of the supported band, but there has been mention on this board that despite Sprints claim as a global phone, the GSM networks in the US is not supported (outside US is supported without restriction). I believe this was a restriction set by the FCC. Someone here had mentioned that they were able to unlock their sprint phone and insert an AT&T sim card, but was unable to connect to the network. So it seems like its an issue thats not as simple as unlocking the phone.
Is there such a restriction the telus?

I bought HTC PRO2 (RHOD500) from Telus. I just noticed that it does not work on fido 3G network. GSM is fine.
If the Hard-SPL for world phone is released, can I use 3G fido network at that time?
Thanks

I knew that, and my phone has been unlocked. I can make phone call without any problem.
However, I can not use it with fido 3G network.
It does not work at all
Hey,
I don’t think its the phone . I have seen this issue many times in the past All your data settings are still set up for TELUS and the CDMA network, It’s not as simple as just unlocking the SIM card to get the data to work you have to go in an re-program the phone. I would suggest finding the Data setting on a Windows mobile device Fido has and just copying those into you Touch Pro 2. (you will most likely need to do this by hand)
Can’t promise it will work as I know some Carriers have certain fields added and removed to fit their needs which messes up the phone when you unlock it to use on other networks.
Wait!!
does this mean the RHOD500 has GSM and CDMA??
--- Does this mean?
1. Buy Telus TP2
2. Unlock
3. Switch to Fido/Rogers
4. Flash 6.1 GSM rom
5. Use 3g?
I think the issue here is that the Telus TP2 has had the 850/1900MHz UMTS bands disabled for some retarded reason. (Seems especially retarded seeing as how they are rolling out a UMTS network running on those bands in a couple of months).
There is speculation that the bands physically exist on the Telus TP2 but they have been software disabled. The other possibility is that the hardware is not physically present to utilize the 850/1900MHz bands that Fido/Rogers use for their 3G data and that the Telus TP2 will never work on their 3G networks (as well as its own upcoming one) but I think that would be a seriously regretful move on Telus' part.
The spec sheet for the MSM7600 indicates that the phone may or may not be capable of using the 850/1900MHz bands, but according to HTC and Telus' specifications it definitely is able to use the 2100MHz bands (which makes zero sense in Canada since nobody will be using those bands for a long time).

This isn't extremely helpful, but
http://web.archive.org/web/20071025232258/www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/msm7600_chipset.pdf
according to that (if I'm reading right) there has to be at least 1 other UMTS band, no configuration is ONLY 2100MHz (the chipset that does only that doesnt do the 1900MHz PCS band for CDMA). But really, I'm pretty much guessing.
Hi I am using the unlocked Telus version on Fido. It's true that you can't use 3G because the phone does not support the required bands. But I still use EDGE. It's slower but better than nothing. Create a new connection and name it Fido. APN is : internet.fido.ca
Username: fido
PW: fido
Hope this helps.

Go to this site, click on the Details button and you'll see that the TP2 supports all of the above mentioned Bands. The bands are all software locked and once Telus initializes the new network (along with WinMo 6.5) they will offer the firmware upgrade to open ALL the GSM bands. It'll just be the question of unlocking the simlock on the device!

I think that maybe you are confusing GSM bands with the UMTS/HSPA bands.
There's a big difference between the GSM/Edge bands and WCDMA/UMTS.
I have been following the subject and there`s no concrete evidence that the 850/1900 WCDMA/UMTS bands are only software.
Where the hell did you get your firmware upgrade information? I've only seen this info given as pure speculation!
If the TouchPro 1 is any indication, the phone might be missing some key components to make it work. In the case of the TP1 it was the amplifier that was missing so it couldn't work even chipset and everything could support it.
(see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420865&page=40)
So while it's possible, until someone does a teardown of the phone and we see all the required component it's simply not possible to say that 3G on a GSM network is possible.
The ONLY indication I have seen that it might support 850/1900 HSPA network is the fact that telus stated that the Tour and Storm will not work on the HSPA network. They failed to mention the TP2 so maybe we can read between the lines:

I have been following this debate on multiple forums.
Based on some information from RileyFreeman, I do think Telus will enable the TouchPro2 for new HSPA network.
Granted, today, you can unlock and use on Rogers, Fido or ATT networks using EDGE, it would be a real poor move for Telus to not have an upgrade path to HSPA.
This is Telus's non Blackberry flagship business device, today, Telus has Enterprise customers testing the HSPA network (likely either PC cards or USB modems). Once HTC releases Windows Mobile 6.5, this would be an ideal time to upgrade the radio's and unlock the 850/1900 UMTS bands.
I can see the 850/1900 bands today, not 100% if they are actually there, also wondering if Telus is also waiting for ATT to release TP2 so ATT can test ROM, Sprint nor Verizon would not have any need to do any regression testing on ROM that supports UMTS bands. Tell tale sign will be if ATT TP2 has same chipset as Telus TP2.
I am crossing my fingers that TP2 will support Telus Canadian SIM.
I agree with you points. By seing the bands you mean in windows mobile band selction settings? If so these are always there.
I highly doubt ATT will use the same chipset as Telus since they use the MSM7600 to support both GSM and CDMA. ATT as no need for CDMA.
Also to support my claim:
ATT is RHOD300 device.
I think Telus is RHOD500 and Sprint is RHOD400 (can't find this info but I know 400/500 are both world phone, so it might be the opposit or something)
Different RHODXXX indicates differents innards.
Bottom line I want a TP2 with 3G on Fido so Im crossing my finders too!
Edit:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/04/atandts-htc-touch-pro2-hits-the-fcc/
So that's Rhodium 100 for T-Mobile, 400/500 for Sprint and Verizon (or vice-versa) and 300 for AT&T
Noob mistake on my part I think the Rhodium XXX is FCC ...so why did I think Telus was in there =\
Sprint is RHOD400, Verizon and Telus both are RHOD500.

I think we found the answer... I had a M919V for couple days but I returned it because I did not succeed to enable LTE Bands... Anyway... I've been seen a lot of other members that enabled the HSPA+ AWS Band (1700/2100 MHz) into a i337m (Bell, Rogers, Telus version). After the method, the i337m turns in to a M919 (T-Mobile version). Thanks for replying, I thought no one knew anything about this variant.. I'll look into that! Thanks a lot
I too have the same variant SGH-M919V from Wind Mobile.
There is very little information about this device because there are very few people actually using it.
I haven't modded my phone at all, plainly because there is no stock firmware available yet. This phone seems so rare, that even when I connect it to Kies, it says that the firmware cannot be upgraded by Kies because it doens't recognize it. (Odd Issue - Very frustrating however).
Root - I do believe if you want to root the device, the Motochopper method should work.
Unlock - This is tested by me. The unlock method via the service mode works just fine. I am using this device on Virgin Mobile (LTE and HSPA+ is supported).
Do post any updates you make.
Really???

Yes, I am using the M919V from Wind Mobile on Virgin Mobile Canada. I've set the band selection to automatic and it normally stays on LTE and switches to H+ depending on whichever connection is stronger.
When I manually set the preference to LTE Band 4, it connects to LTE.
I am using this device in Windsor, Ontario.
The only thing I've noticed is that when the phone does connect to HSPA+ when not on LTE is that it shows 3G instead of 4G or H+ in the notification bar. But after running speed tests and checking device info, I have confirmed that it is infact on H+.
I am not sure why the device you had wouldn't let you pick the LTE bands. As far as I know the M919 or the M919V variants support all north american LTE bands. Odd issue i suppose.

Just curious: when you are connected to the HSPA+ network, which download speed do you get? I'm with Bell here in BC. Here, Bell shares the HSPA+ network with Telus and there are two frequencies: in 850MHz HSPA+ with speeds up to 21.1Mbps and 1900MHz DC-HSPA+ speeds up to 42.2Mbps. When I set my device to WCDMA 850 (I mean HSPA+ Band 5) on ServiceMode Menu, I get download speeds up to 8Mbps. And when I set to WCDMA 1900 (I mean DC-HSPA+ Band 2) on ServiceMode Menu, I get download speeds up to 22Mbps. One more thing: I dont have LTE plan... Could you try those settings and share the results with us, please??

Strange, because there is a video from another member who did the method on a I337 from AT&T to enable HSPA+ AWS band (1700/2100MHz). I have to let you know before hand that I don't get full bars at my place. These tests were run on 2-3 bars, so the speeds may be lower than normal.
WCDMA 850 - 5 Mbps down & 2 Mbps up
WCDMA 1900 - 8 to 10 Mbps down & 4 Mbps up
You clearly have a better network in BC than here in south ON. I usually get 22 Mbps when I'm on LTE.

WCDMA 1900 - 8 to 10 Mbps down & 4 Mbps up
You clearly have a better network in BC than here in south ON. I usually get 22 Mbps when I'm on LTE.
Here's a link to my thread regarding the 3G icon. But it also has some other information that may be of interest to you:

Thanks a lot!!! Your results tells me two things:
1) Bell/Virgin/Telus/Koodo have DC-HSPA+ in 1900MHz in Ontario as well.
2) The M919V version has DC-HSPA+ for 3G service.
I saw your another post "Feedback required from Virgin Mobile Canada Galaxy S4 Users". I didn't understand one thing: what's the problem about the 3G icon? Don't you like it?
I thing all mobile networks, such as UMTS, WCDMA, HSPA, HSPA+ and DC-HSPA+ should called as 3G. Just LTE should be called as 4G, because LTE is the truly 4G. Don't you think?

Hi guys, I recently bought a Xperia Z1 Compact. I'm still using the same SIM card as my old One X which I got almost two years ago. Since getting the Z1C, I have never seen LTE or 4G displayed in the status bar and it's mostly always been H+. I am with Orange Switzerland and they have 4G coverage where I am and it's available to all their customers as long as their phone supports it.
I did a Speedtest and apparently I'm getting around 10Mbps which according to this article: http://www.zdnet.com/au/speed-test-how-fast-is-4g-really-7000007995/ qualified for 4G. But then shouldn't it display LTE in the status bar?
I've chosen "4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM" in the settings but when choosing Orange 4G in Network Operators, it would say: "Could not connect to the selected network. Make that the SIM card is inserted and that the selected network is available."
Could someone please let me know if I really have LTE or not and if not, how I should proceed? Thanks!
Contact your operator, you may need a new sim.
Ask them what LTE frequency band is/are available in your area. And compare it against the Xperia Z1 Compact. The supported bands should be
LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600

I don't know about Switzerland, but here in Germany, whenever I get an LTE connection it displays as "4G" in the status bar. (I also get "H+" from time to time)

Orange Switzerland supports 800, 1800 and 2600 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks so maybe my SIM card doesn't support LTE. But I was under the impression that 3G (or H+) compatible SIM cards are also compatible with LTE?

no, at least here in brazil, if i want to use 4g, i have to ask for a 4g slim card. currently, im using a 3g sim, and it also wonto conect to 4g , even if its available for me to use it.

Okay, thanks for your confirmation. It's just that I saw these two sites: http://optus.custhelp.com/app/answe...g/4g:-general-device-&-sim-card-compatibility and https://www.m1.com.sg/Personal/FAQ/Mobilephonesandplans/postpaid/4GService which both state that a 3G sim card is enough to get 4G connectivity on a compatible phone. But perhaps it's different with each carrier?

i may be wrong, but that link only says that you can join a 4g network with your 3g sim, but it doesnt say nothing about using data plan on 4g.
here in brasil, we HAVE to buy a 4g card, to use 4g data plan. dont know if i can use 4g networks with my 3g sim card just for talking, thou.
go to about -> status, and see in wich network youre conected.
Here in our country we have 2 network operators that provide 4g LTE the first one can only connect to LTE using a 4g sim card. Using a regular sim you can only connect up to H+. And the other one let's you connect to 4g even with just a regular sim card although it throttles your data whenever you reach 1gb usage in 1 day hahaha! Yeah I know pretty useless.
I have also Orange contract in Switzerland. And I get 4G in most places. Where do you live?
However I received a new simcard (since I got the normal size in my S2). You might want to contact orange customer service or go to an orange shop.

I had to get a new SIM from O2 here in the UK to use 4G.
Something similar is the case with my Z1 Compact. I'm in Hungary, Central Europe, and never saw the 4G / LTE sign on my phone. I had an old SIM card that I've cut to the appropriate size, which worked, but I suspected that maybe it wasn't 4G-capable, so got a new one from T-Mobile last weekend.
Now I have a 4G-capable SIM card, 4G data plan (newly registered just two weeks ago, and it's already running according to my T-Mobile account info on their website), and there is 4G coverage in Budapest, the capital city, and still, when I try to choose the 4G T-Mobile H network, it tries to connect and then drops back to 3G.
I'm going to wait until this weekend and then get someone from T-Mobile on the phone about this.

I'm in Luzern. My friends who are also with Orange can get 4G. I guess I'll contact them but I might wait until my contract expires in a couple of months since I might change carriers. No point buying a new SIM card now if I'm gonna change later. Thanks everyone for the help!

This is the message I get when I try to connect to the 4G network:
I've figured out why I don't have 4G at the moment.
I have a pay as you go plan, not a monthly plan, and apparently I need a monthly plan to have 4G with the data plan that I use.
Kind of sucks, but at least now I know that it's not a setup, phone or SIM card problem.
So I finally went to an Orange shop. The guy there was very helpful but he said that I shouldn't need a new SIM card for 4G to work. He then checked various settings but everything seemed to be in order. In the end, he gave me a new SIM card and it worked! I was surprised that I didn't need to pay for the new SIM card. So now 4G is working as advertised
Hi guys, my htc m8 is a latin america variant cid 332 and since i bought it i just use 3g because it doesn't work on 4g band 7 2600mhz here on Brazil. today with sunshine 3.0.3 i could s-off and change to developer edition but 4g still do not work. so what is the radio that will work 4g lte in my device? thanks.

From what I can tell, the Dev Edition does lack 2600 MHz (band 7) LTE support.
There are probably a variety of other radios that will work with Band 7. Just looking at a Wiki list of what LTE bands are used in various locations/carriers (below); band 7 seems to be used by a number of carriers in Europe and Asia (as well as South & Cental America). Also, just looking at the specs for my AT&T M8 version, it also supports LTE Band 7. SO I would think you might have a few different options that would work. But of course you will want to use a radio that also supports your carrier's 3G band(s).

Here in Brazil a some people are using att version and 4g is working fine, and also I talked to a guy that is using wwe radio and is working fine too, but att radio is in version 1.16 and wwe is in 1.15, should I try the newer one instead of wwe?

While technically the 1.16 radio is "newer" than 1.15 (thus the higher version number); that doesn't necessarily mean "better". Its from the same "generation" of radio versions, and just includes AT&T specific tweaks, bands, etc.
Neither the WWE nor the AT&T radios are specifically intended for your carrier. So its a gamble which will work better. It sounds like either should work fine. If I had to pick, I would guess to try the WWE radio. AT&T has too many network specific naunces, in my experience. While WWE by definition is more "generic". But that is just a guess on my part (which will work better in your specific case).

I was slightly surprised myself. I had assumed that the Dev Edition and AT&T versions had the same band compatibility, since the DE is specfically intended to work on AT&T's network. But at least based on specs online, its missing LTE Band 7 (which agrees with your experience).
AT&T doesn't use LTE Band 7. So its not too strange, I suppose (that its omitted from the DE). I just wonder why they decided to include it on the AT&T variant, and not on the DE.

Aside from the CDMA variants (Sprint & Verizon) and dual SIM variant, all M8 hardware is the same.
AT&T radio might still work, I'd recommend trying it.
Its fully possible that the carriers intended for the WWE version don't use LTE Band 7. I was just guessing (and apparently incorrectly) that there was enough Band 7 usage in Europe, that it would mean the WWE version would support that band.

If you have never used LTE on that SIM before, than yes there might be a carrier side issue. Such as your account not being provisioned for LTE, etc.
Also make sure you are using the proper APN. Sometimes, carriers use a different APN for LTE enabled phones.

I'd try your SIM in another phone, or try another person's SIM (who has working LTE) on your phone, and see what happens.
I have a suspicion that the issue is carrier side. If your phone has the band enabled, and the APN is correct, I don't see any reason why LTE won't work.

As I suspected, after flashing multiple radios, that it was a network side issue.
I have to agree, that is some poor customer service to not even try a new SIM. And now you've conclusively proven the issue is on their side. So if you give them another chance and they still don't fix it; I agree switching carriers is probably the right decision (if that is an option for you).

You don't need an app. Just go into phone Settings>About>Network, and there you will see Signal Strength in dBm.

i will switch my carrier today, they don't even had a clue what device is HTC m8 since htc doesn't sell devices here in Brazil. after two calls and they told me to turn off my device for 10 minutes (obviously the did this because they didn't know how to fix the problem and this will make me hang up the call) nothing was solved, they even told me that my area doesn't have 4g coverage, but almost a year ago i was using 4g in my g2 in the same carrier, that was when i stop taking them seriously. for the record, the carrier is Claro BR, try to ask something more technical and they don't know what to do.
Thanks for all you help and attention.

mmWave requires a dedicated antenna, in place of that there is just a useless piece of plastic in the Sub-6 only versions (just watch a couple teardown videos, they'll notice/explain that).

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Any ideea if there is a software difference between GLUOG and G8VOU ?
Looking to get G8VOU to use with Bell Canada.
I travel across borser a lot.
I currently have a Note 20 Ultra 5G "U1" version, from US and Bell Canada won't recognize the TAC and cannot get 5G in Canada or register with ATT or Verizon since no IMS registration allowed by Bell Canada because of the XAA CSC. So basically can't use it with Canadian Carriers. No options to flash it with a "W" firmware either. Thank you Samsung.
Looking to leave Samsung and get a Pixel 6 pro but wanted the G8VOU for 260 261 band.
Any thoughts, will the G8VOU will work with Canadian carriers ?

There are no software differences, both variants run the same firmware.
You're gonna be between a rock and a hard place though.
The rock is that you can use the G8V0U on Bell however you might only get 3G.
I checked the IMEI for a Pixel 6 and it said it would be Sub-6 compatible. I checked the IMEI for a Pixel XL and it said it would be LTE compatible. However, when checking with an IMEI for a G8V0U it only said HSPA compatible, nothing about LTE or Sub-6.
No guarantees about LTE support, which by extension means no guarantees about IMS, even if Bell doesn't have whitelists.
The hard place is that if you were to instead get a GLU0G for Sub-6 and IMS support in Canada you'd be on the reverse end of the stick in the US as both AT&T and Verizon operate whitelists.
AT&T only allows the G8V0U for IMS, and because AT&T is an IMS only network now there is no way to use the GLU0G.
Verizon is still running their CDMA network but it doesn't matter because their entire network is whitelisted and they don't allow the GLU0G.
Your best bet if you want a Pixel is to get a Pixel 6 GB7N6 which can be bought unlocked from the Google Store and will work on all networks in the US and Canada although it only has Sub-6 and not mmWave.

Is this the case for roaming services? I mean with a Bell Sim inside, roaming on a US network ?

For which hardware?
GLU0G roaming in the US should be supported according to Bell with LTE/VoLTE/Sub-6.
G8V0U roaming in the US will not work because you need IMS, and Bell doesn't provide that with the G8V0U.

Ok, that is what I was afraid of. I appreciate your reply. I guess no matter if it's Samsung or Google, it has to be a Canadian version in order to avoid all the hassle I am putting up with now.
I am in US now, using Note 20 5G U1, and can only register on Tmobile for voice and get only 3G. ATT will let me register but only getting LTE data and text but cannot place or recieve calls.
Verizon, lets me register for a few seconds then kicks me out.
I was looking for an answer about what device to buy and I was hoping Google's story was going to be different but from what you've described, I see no difference between them.
Bell support was "0" since not a device that they sold.
So I guess I'll have to chose between S22 W and GLU0G.
Wondering if the same goes for Iphone devices ?

iPhones have different variants for countries that haven't certified mmWave or have other frequency restrictions but Apple mandates that carriers support all variants that have basic support for their frequencies.
USA variant iPhones have mmWave that can't be used in Canada. 100% band support on Bell and might miss a single band on others but still work completely fine in Canada.
Canada/Japan variant iPhones don't have mmWave, will 100% work in Canada, have all bands for AT&T and Verizon, except the 11/12 miss a single band on T-Mobile but will still have service.
Both variants will roam in any combination, but a USA variant won't gain mmWave when roaming in the US as Bell doesn't have mmWave roaming contracts with carriers.
