ok i was reading somewhere else that was speculating that some time later on htc will start manufacturing tp2 with 3.5mm headset jack is this at all true or what they said that it was possible bcus why would htc spend more money making one with the usb ext if they could make it with the other tp2 with a 3.5 mm head jack, please tell me because its either getting it now or getting it later on which 1 should i get
I have a CDMA Pro2 on Telus network in Canada and I have a 3.5 mm headphone jack ....
The CDMA ones have a 3.5mm jack. And though it is POSSIBLE they might decide to start manufacturing the GSM variants with the 3.5mm jacks, it is unlikely, in my opinion, that they shall decide to start making them. And I think they stated they had no plans of adding 3.5mm jacks to future productions of the GSM variants as of now. You also have to remember that if you're with T-Mobile in the US. They would not only need to start making GSM variants with 3.5mm, but specifically the t-mobile one if you want 3G.
Hey solsearch, do you have your TP2 already? with movistar in Mexico?
Saludos,
No... but I am picking it up tomorrow (knock on wood)
The seller got a shipment of phones in last week, but they didn't confirm that mine was amongst them till this week and I haven't been able to go pick it up till now, but tomorrow first thing at 9:30am I hope to be there ready to inspect the phone and get it. I'd have bought it online and stuff, except that as a starving student (not that young) without a credit card... well, I don't feel comfortable buying online with my debit card as if anything happens it's a lot harder to get the money back. This way I can go in person, inspect, pay, and if there's anything wrong, take it back to the sellers to make good their initial warranty (and thereby save on shipping).
But Orb, how was your import? I see you got two of them I've heard horror tales on importing products, did you have to pay a lot in custom fees/taxes? That was one of the things worrying me about ordering online.
PM sent you to explain all Mexican history

I'm pretty much at my breaking point with this company. Between empty promises, botched hardware and being the last of the majors to even release the new technology, let's just state what goes without saying: AT&T should rename themselves to iPhoneT&T because they've apparently bet the farm on that overrated piece of crap and in turn have thrown their Windows Mobile business clients under the bus.
No amount of excuse makes sense or matters any more. The iPhone 3GS has been on the market for plenty of time. If someone was gonna buy it, they'd have bought it by now. If they were waiting for WinMo 6.5, they could have released it as an update rather than making their clients wait while every other major phone company released it. Not to mention the fact that the "consortium" of US carriers have kept HTC from releasing unlocked versions for U.S. consumers. God forbid they didn't get their over-charging grubby hands on a few extra shekels. For the love of everything sacred, HTC is already leaking the HTC Leo and I have yet to see a TP2 outside of a T-Mobile showroom!
AT&T has lost it's focus and I'm at the point where waiting for them to get off their sorry butts to release a phone (of which they're going to screw up the hardware, let's be frank) has become a near impossibility and I'm about ready to jump ship.
That leads me to two questions: Who's with me and where the heck should I go?
Hey I feel your pain I am still using the Hermes from 3 years ago. I really want this phone but I can't do Sprint (Not enough custom ROM's etc) and Verizon well they just totally suck!! T-mobile is an option but coverage isn't that great here and there is no 3G and I have heard the sound volume is sucky on that one for some reason.
So I am stuck for now. As far as the whole 6.5 thing it really doesn't matter to me because I would just be using a custom ROM from here anyway but I really have no choice but to wait
While the Leo looks bad as hell I think its the first time I have actually thought hmmm maybe that phone is just too damn big for me lol
They've got the iDud and all the money and glory that goes along with it, do you think they give a crap about the Touch Pro 2?

Just my personal experience and I told myself long ago I would never give them my money again because of the things they do.
Most of their phones you can't send files like pics and ringtones via bluetooth because that profile is taken out. Alot of phone have GPS locked and WIFI taken out etc.
Again thats just my personal opinion.

They used to do those things, that's true, but no more, all their smartphones (and regular phones) come with all features (like GPS, Bluetooth OBEX, etc.) intact and ready for use. They have also released ROM updates for many devices, like the original Touch Pro and Omnia that unlock the GPS on them. They said they'd do it, and they did, I am surprised but pretty happy they have
Thats probably true but at this point its the principle of the matter because I have way too many options in my area. Besides they are also the most expensive.
We've got 5 carriers, AT&T (formerly Edge Wireless here, an AT&T affiliate), Verizon, US Cellular, Metro PCS and as of this summer/fall, T-Mobile, who is just building out in our area. In terms of actual coverage, it goes like this-
1.US Cellular
2.Verizon
3.AT&T
4.Metro PCS
5.T-Mobile (they are just building out, hence the low rating).
Sprint and Nextel have licenses to serve our area as well, but have never built out a network here. Sprint roams on US Cellular, and Nextel phones are just dead paperweights.

Oh it's obvious that they don't give a crap about it. My problem is that they want to have their cake and eat it too. "We don't give a crap about Windows Mobile users and we'll release the phones we're going to whenever we darn well please, but we want to be sure that HTC doesn't give people the opportunity to buy it before we make it available."
The fact that they keep the manufacturer from releasing an unlocked version that will work here is criminal. It's almost a cellular monopoly but in the sense that the carriers have gotten together as a team in an effort to remove choice from the consumer. They can claim all they want that you can still buy one from the manufacturer but that's like saying you can only buy a Porsche in the US from a Porsche dealer. If you order one from overseas, not only will you pay significantly more, we're also going to replace the engine with one from a 1987 Ford Escort.
Why can't we just buy the phone we want from whoever we choose and let that be that. I still have to pay for service any way you cut it. They can't be making THAT much money of the device itself anyway!

Not me.
I'm cruising along just fine on my Kaiser till AT&T gets the Tilt 2 like they want it.
Everything I've read leads me to believe it's a great device and worth the wait. If I get 2 years out of a Tilt 2 like I have my Tilt 1, it's all good.
I'm with you. Hopefully I'll be saying byebye to AT&T today...Once my TP2 arrives..
I don't mean to be a little rough but STOP WHINING AND TAKE ACTION!
I felt exactly as you did and changing carriers wasn’t really an answer. After all, by buying from any carrier you are supporting HTC and the local carriers who arrange/force HTC not to release phones with US 3G bands.
The ONLY way this is going to change is if the customers (YOU) change.
Personally, I have decided I will NOT sign any 2 year commitment and I will NOT be forced to buy a data plan, and I will NOT support HTC who is allowing ATT and others to bully them into not releasing world phones with US 3G bands.
The solution is simple, buy from a company who DOES NOT DO THIS. Personally, I went with the Samsung Omnia 2. If that is not your cup of tea, look at Nokia’s or even the Sony X2 which is due out soon. Support the companies that are releasing phones with US 3G bands.
The only way the local carriers are going to change (or HTC) is if enough of us speak with our money and take our business elsewhere. That is the only way things will change. Whining about it on a forum isn’t going to have any effect.
Good luck to you and I hope you do speak with your wallet by taking your business to other phone manufacturers.
While I'm certainly not enjoying the wait to upgrade my 8525, I don't really see the issue with them waiting for WinMo 6.5. Sucks for me, but then I know the carrier is going to fully support it. Are all the other carriers going to have 6.5 upgrades ready and waiting on Oct 6th?
Also I feel like I'm in the minority, but my experience with AT&T has been great. Their 3G coverage in my area is fantastic. I'm not a big fan of AT&T as a company, but I have a hard time arguing with the service I receive.
My first post.
I've been waiting on ATT for what seems like forever. Think I'm going over to Sprint in a week or two so I can try out both the TP2 and the Hero then decide which one I want. Not to mention the monthly cost will be significantly reduced compared to ATT.
Have a newb question. I know there is a different hardspl for the Sprint version, that isn't out yet as far as I can tell, but once hardspl is out will all the roms, software, etc. for the other versions work on the CDMA version? If not I might be stuck waiting on ATT and paying too much for service.

Let's see, you don't have a TP2, don't even have an HTC phone, and are advocating that all of us also refuse to buy HTC altogether so WTF are you doing here in a forum dedicated primarily to HTC phones? It seems to me that if you really were serious about your little boycott you would put your money where your mouth is and "take your business elsewhere."

i think the main reason att hasnt released the touch pro 2 is that their network isnt ready to handle all the data the will be running on those devices, they have already alot of activity from the 3gs , also they are waiting to release it with windows 6.5 so that will be a plus because it will be definite that it will be fully supported, just my .02

Ditto, Verizon (coverage and unlocked GSM sim card), sprint if they have good coverage in your area (4G),
I would have jumped ship if not for the fact that it would cost me a minimum of $30/month more on any other carrier compared to my grandfathered plan.
So in the meantime my Tilt is enough to keep me going, though my patience is very thin at this point. I just want to know a release date (price too would be nice). That would at least make the waiting more bearable knowing when it would end.
Leave AT&T cause they release a phone 2 months after others? Doubly a solid reason.
I like AT&T, I like their prices (I pay $20 for unlim internet, + $70 for 2 phones (700 mins)). Plus their rollover feature is cool, I got like 4.8K minutes accumulated (way too much I know).
Plus their customer service is awesome, they've repeatedly forgiven me $200-$300 on my account when I went way out of limit (about 4 years ago). My friend with Verizon was so jealous.
Just hang tight, AT&T's tilt 2 will be out in Nov '09.
I was reading on the T-Mobile Dash forum on the T-Mobile site that some customers, unhappy with their Dash, they called and asked to get a replacement with either the Dash 3G or a BlackBerry Curve... Is this possible?
Let me know what you heard.
now im interested, i hope someone has the answer.
Someone should call T-Mobile customer support, and make their way to talking to superiors. Just claim that you are disastisfied with your purchase of the TMobile Dash...I don't know. It would be very interesting to find out though
I complained that the "a" key stopped working on my dash and I asked for a different phone, all they offered me was the 'o9 shadow, no other choices. I was tryin to get the 3g dash. I took the shadow since I already have a dopod dash.
Oh really?
How is the new Shadow working?
yes it's possible
you have 14 days to return or exchange a phone w/t-mobile. either defective, just don't like or whatever. i've done it about 4 times. you can exchange for a different phone, pay extra or refunded the difference, or just return for a full refund. the return has to be postmarked by the 14th day of receipt. other than that your out of luck as far as i know. outside the usa i don't know. hope this helps.
PS: if you have insurance on the phone, ie:defective, for a deductable charge the phone would be replaced. $6.00 a month
Thanks but I already knew that.
IMO the build quality of the old Dash is far better than the 3G. There is something very awkward about the new model.
FYI: They do have whats called a multipal exchange program where if you replace your device 3 times in a 3 month time frame then they will replace it with another device of equal or lesser value but they will not replace it for a better device such as the dash 3G or BBcurve. Even if talking to a superior they will only offer you a full discount with a 2yr contract or a switch to another device of equal or lesser value.
So I purchased a T7373 Touch Pro2 back in July 09. I was a big fan of the TyTN and figured this would be a great new phone.
I must say no disappointment here, even the stock roms were alright.
Alas, I live in Canada and knew my phone wouldn't be offered by my provider (Rogers) so I purchased it knowning that 3G would not be available.
What I didn't realize several new companies (google Bell/Telus HSPA) have put new networks that would use the same NAM 3G frequencies.
Long story short, I wanted to upgrade my phone to the 3G for the fact my phone could move networks and still work. I was told I could trade in at a cost of 200 US to change it to the Tilt2. (supports NAM 3G frequencies)
Other than the network independence, do you think its worth it?
It would be nice to stream audio, but $200 to stream audio seems kinda heavy. But my TyTN stayed with me for 3 years as it did its job and did it well thanks to the chefs.
What would you do?
that seems a bit steep as you can find lightly used devices on craigslist and ebay for that much.
Maybe buy a slightly used one and sell yours to make up the difference? also for some reason the european unlocked versions go for more than they should on eBay considering the lack of NAM 3G bands.
Stay with Rhodium and later you´ll have a chance to get the other device in a hot deal (check periodically marketplace)
The 3g can definitely make this deal for you if you are in a good coverage area. I would definately make the switch.
However, I wouldn't make the switch for $200 out the gate.
First I'd find out if they'd accept an older phone for trade-in instead, such as an older TyTyn or Wizard.
If not, I'd try a straight trade offer with anyone on these forums who'd like to make use of the secondary camera or prefer the original style. I don't know about Canada, but currently you can get a TouchPro2/Tilt2 with AT&T in the US for free with a new contract through amazon.com, so it's pretty likely to find someone who'd feel they were also getting an upgrade and a great deal.
If none of these pan out and I still craved 3g goodness, I'd have to think long and hard of selling the phone and buying a new rhodium or going through with the pricey upgrade.
3G was the primary factor in my recent upgrade from wizard to rhodium, more so than any other obvious upgrades
What is supposed to come in the box? A data cable with charger adapter right? Manual, ear buds and a sim card? Mine is missing a sim card and ear buds and charger adapter and manual. Don't need most of it really except for sim card and adapter but would be nice to have had all contents for resale value. Anyone know kill if t mobile will give me a sim for free?
the sim card u can get for free by going into any tmobil store and asking for the wifi calling simcard which they owe u, so thats a easy one to get! Actually the earbuds are really nice too bad u lost those!! Just buy a third party charger if u have tooooooo
Phones don't come with sim cards. you need to buy one from your specific carrier. Especially if it was unlocked.
and yeas, the phone comes with manuals, earphones and spare earbuds and a usb cable with AC adapter.
If you don't have that in your box, the phone was been tampered with. Try and return it if that doesnt work, then make the the seller gets a crappy reputation

Good ol' ebay.....
This is the reason why it needs to be obsolete. Id be super pissed at what was received, but then again, I don't use ebay cause of this type of tactic.
The 6 I tried all came with sim cards, so id say they come with them (I kept them too). It also comes with a $25 media hub credit (card says $10, but its really $25).

Actually both SGS2 I got and also my G2X, G2, Vibrant, all came with a sim cards. Not sure why your phones didn't.
As to OP, I would contact seller and let them know what's missing and that if they don't ship you what's missing you will leave a bad feedback.
Most sellers don't want a bad feedback and are willing to help out, unless of course you already left a feedback.
That's the reason I don't buy my phones online, I go to the store (tmobile, Walmart, etc) and double check all it's there because you never know.

sounds like you got sold his old one because the seller got himself a new replacement thru mail with some kind of scam which is usually the phone by itself so he needed to keep the charger, ear buds and manual for himself or either to resell it later.. As to the sim card the seller probably already activated it when he bought the phone so of course he couldn't send it to you but you could always go into a tmobile store and ask for a new sim card they give them for free only thing they might ask is your account/phone number to make sure you're with tmobile.

Any phone you buy here from the carrier that you're using always comes with a new sim card if they use it unless if by some reason the in store rep took it away like so many people have said either to keep for themselves or to keep for the store stock only phones I've seen that dont come with a sim is when you purchase an unlocked version online.

High fees, scams committed by buyer protection when the buyers lie. The hold policy is also a burden. Fake products too.

ebay has its good and bad it really just depends on the buyer to make sure they read carefully on what it is that they're purchasing but in this case the seller listed it as "brand new" which should mean that it was in its sealed original box with all its content unless it was an open box display item then it should have been listed as "like new" but like you say its really his own fault for not carefully reading the description of the item before hitting that purchase button.
Hey everyone. Long time XDA'er here. Ive found little to nothing regarding the external antenna ports on our note 2. I've found that Ebay and Amazon do carry some external ones listed specifically for the note2, but I have also read that plugging anything at all into the r1 / r2 ports will cause a permanent disconnect to the internal antenna on other Samsung Galaxy series devices. Has anyone tinkered with the ports yet?
They are standard sockets and I have a spare back cover for mine. I don't mind modifying the cover to make things work if I knew it wouldn't damage my internal antenna. I'm looking at this for when I go camping ( to keep in the car for emergencies of course ).
Im also debating on just buying a cellular repeater even though they cost 4 times as much. The advantage to those is that you can get AWESOME amplified antennas and attach them to the repeater. Im just beginning my research on cellular antenna technology so any heads up would be appreciated. I do know enough about electronics and frequencies in general ( was previously an electrical / mechanical technician and repaired things at component level following schematics ) but I certainly dont want to damage my baby .
Here are links to the antenna I'm looking at :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...tenna-antenna-adapter-cable-3db-/370780049306
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-external-antenna-adapter-pigtail/dp/B00BVLA2FK
Here are some repeaters im looking at :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wilson-8023...907?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336e128a4b
Won't perm. disconnect....
As far as I know it won't permanently disconnect the internal antenna unless you damage the connection, I've been looking at this myself and getting an antenna is sure cheaper, the cel-fi is no longer available from t-mobile, and they keep giving me the runaround on it. Some say it's just not in Stock, but a tech Rep told me that there are real issues worth liability, it seems that the cel-fi interferes with the location on emergency calls. The Wilson products seem to mainly work with other carriers, not t-mobile, the have one of their cradle setups that will work for the cell and 3g part, but their Rep tools me that while it will work, it would be a REAL tight fit as it is not designed for phones as large as ours.
Looked at that Wilson link you posted, expensive piece of equipment there. Should work, but I'd go to Wilson's Web site to check the exact specs before I spent that kind of money on eBay. Also, Compu-Vision is not an authorized online retailer of wilson products, so if something goes wrong toy might have a real nightmare, we all know grey market sellers can be a hassle. , like I said, go to wilsonelectronics.com

Thanks much for the feedback. Ill check out wilsonelectronics.com for sure. I'm still looking into all of the possibilities at the moment though. Im not quite sure if I want to spend that much on a device not knowing where cellular technology will be in the near future. I was worried from all of the posts I read about the permanent antenna disconnects on other galaxy devices. I have asurion insurance but still.... i just had a horrible experience with them " not finding" the broken note 2 I shipped back after they billed my account for it. they game me the " you dont have your tracking number? Sorry you are stuck with the bill" speech. Thank god Tmobile was a little more helpful than that and found it for them ( in their possession ) !
