battery life with the 3VO Rom ver 2.50 080809 - HTC Excalibur

Has anyone else had any battery life problems with the new Rom by ookba? I have one of those extended life batteries in my excalibur ( it is a 2400 mAh ) and I have found it loses power much quicker after I installed the new Rom by ookba. By the way I love the Rom it is awesome! But I was wondering if there is something I could do to increase the battery life more like it was befor I installed the new Rom. I do not want to take the new Rom off cause it Rocks!
I would like to have the battery last a bit longer though.. I don't know if it is the titanium panels or what that is making it lose power so quick after I have it on all day ( with bt off and wi-fi only occasionally ) it drops to 70 to 60 percent power by nightime. I have the normal stuff set up on the phone to use the best possible battery life but uses a lot more battery than befor I put the new Rom by ookba in.
I am looking for some answers but do not want to take this super Rom off my phone.
Thanks!

Personally my battery life has drastically improved since I moved from one of the Rose's Roms to 3VO's Rom. I had no idea that a Rom could make such a big difference in terms of battery life.

My battery life has gone down since upgrade to "3VO Rom ver 2.50 080809"(But still I like this rom). It only lasts 18hrs without any extensive usage. I will suspect that its radio which is causing this drain.

That is reallly odd. I have a 1550 mAh extended battery, and in one day of decent usage I only go down to 80% on a daily basis.
What I do notice is that once I hit 35-40%, battery usage increases insanely (but i am assuming that this is due to some anti-fail methods used to preserve the phones functions and whatever you may be working on , but i may be wrong). But besides that, i have had no real power issues...

same thing here. i switched back to 2.0 and have been very happy with the battery life...

This has been a well documented issue with the 2.50 version of the ROM. Ookba is aware and has mentioned reverting to an older core but keeping the same UI tweaks and feel of 2.50. If the drain is that much of a concern try version 2.00, 071809. It supposedly has a 'hole' in it but I never noticed it. The icons are a little different and there aren't as many UI tweaks but I had GREAT battery life on it. But if you can deal with it for a while Ookba I am sure will have something for us to try when he gets done over on the Maple page. The Dash 3G needs 3VO too ya know. So its up to you. Try the other ROM that doesn't have as much eye candy but has better life until a new release, or deal with the battery drain like the rest of us and wait for a new release. I just close out my programs as much as I can. I have a 960 maH and I get about 24 hours with regular use. Up to you.

battery life is so good so far
the battery life was good and improved and the mobile changed totally as i feel i got new one thanks for 3vo rom

I have noticed that my battery is also going low very quickly after this rom upgrade. today I'v removed omap clock settings from startup and looking what will happen. I think the OMAP is eating more power from my battery. the battery is 960mah and lasted 3-4 days with previous NRG rom.

well i completely agree i am using same battery and it was draining very quickly so i switched back to kavana 6.1 and every thing was normal again

I improved battery performance by using the OMAP Clock GUI and setting the low-end to 180 and the high-end to 252.

I agree, it must have something to do with the last version because the previous versions didn't drain so quickly...

I disabled omap and nothing significant happened, during the night in standby mode the battery was drained from 60% to 25%. now I disabled titanium panels and changed back to sliding panels. And there is IT! the battery life is much better, I think the "power eater" was titanium panel. You can give it try and post results.

remove check status mscr
its in the startup folder. helped me alot. before with my phone habits i would make it about 3hrs if that.
ookba posted this in his ROM thread.

There's no way that's possible. If anything, HTC Sliding Panels will eat more battery than CHome because it's a loyout no longer native to the OS. checkstatus.mscr is the culprit. Almost positive.

I Do Completly Agree ...
Yes I feel the 3VO Rom Ver 2.50.080809.. makes the effect on the performance of the Battery Life, I would indeed like make a STRONG APPEAL on behalf of all the users of 3VO Rom Ver 2.50.080809, to MR. OOBKA that he should get us some way of it , because we love and admire his hard work a Lot.

Battery Patch
Guys, I built a patch file that makes a few changes in an attempt to help battery life. Please install it and reboot.
Also could be found on the second post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=224547&d=1252178358

well i'm 3 hours into testing the patch.. gonna see if i can beat my normal 24-36 hours limit. i'll let you know tomorrow if i see any improvement

for me its a big improvement almost half day since i last charge my dash and with normal used im on 93%, before it will eat up 20% just texting from time to time.
tomorow i'll post again, before i can used my dash with the newest rom for just 1 1/2 day or less.
*70% left for 24 hrs

im in the middle of figuring out something. Its highly unlikely this is ookba's problem but, i installed the patch and got great battery life for 2 days about 5 hours longer than normal. I fully recharged before i went to bed and woke up this morning with my battery at 38% thats a 62% lose in less than 8 hours... anyone have any ideas. I'm used to running 18-30 hours non stop on this battery

2.50 and 2.60 rom update
i keep getting an error on my phone from time to time
Tmobile Dash 3G Mapl100
error: Cannot find window "DesktopExplorerWindow"
ive done hard reset's and everything still comes up on both roms

What's your battery life like? (WM6 & WM6.1 welcome)

I'm curious to know what other people experience in terms of battery life. I've just put a fresh 1500mAh battery into my phone, and I've flashed it with two ROMs in as many days.
I got average battery life out of the first ROM I tried (Schap's v4.31 Full), but I'm currently running with CRC's Release 13.3 Stable (Build 20270) and I can - literally - see the battery life ebb away in front of my eyes. From the moment I unplugged it, the battery went down to 99%, 98%, 97%... slowed down at 94%, but it's carried on going down.
The phone's only been unplugged for about 3 hours, with moderate usage (occasional use, installing a couple of apps, a lot of time just sitting by my computer) and already the battery is at 79% (one minute ago it was at 80%).
I can monitor the power consumption with BatteryStatus and it does seem to be using more power than you'd expect just idling - 43mA with the phone idle, bluetooth turned on and paired to my headset and the backlight on. With the backlight off completely, it's still using between 25mA and 50mA! Is this to be expected, or is something sucking the battery power up?
Is WM6.1 just a thirstier OS than WM6, or is CRC's ROM particularly resource intensive? I have done a little tweaking, but mostly doing things like turning power management ON (to lower SD card power usage) and installing a couple of extra apps (none of which are currently loaded in the background).
If people have a particular ROM which has very good battery life, please let me know - I'm interested to see what people are using and what kind of battery life everybody is getting.
Cheers
Christopher
Battery
Where did you get a 1500MAH battery for a herm? i could only find 1350!!!
I'm using Black Satin. 6.1pro but it doesn't have anything fancy, like manilla 2d or stuff its really basic. With 3g turned OFF! the phone doesn't overheat. As soon as the phone gets a little hot the battery just drains for some reason. I believe that the 3d card when its turned on it must not have signal everywhere and as soon as the connection is broken if you step outside of the coverage area it tries to find the signal and BOOM! your phone is dead! battery just drains.
on the average day ill take it off the charger around 8am. and just leaving it on standby not doing anything its usually dead around 5pm...
And this is the Black satin rom so far out of all the roms i tried it has been the best for power consumption. There is a guide on the "Best" tested roms in the stickie... its a great starting point. Some of the top rated roms didnt work for me cause i needed to install some 3rd party software for work ... and they didnt work, im guessing cause there was some stuff that was stripped out.
it is not only about the rom. it is also about the battery you purchased.
I have an old original battery which is about 4 years old. I also have a cheap brand new battery I purchased from china. The 4 year old battery holds more power than the cheap brand new one. I found that the new batteries are not properly initialized, or that there is something wrong with how they report the remaining power. My new battery drops down to 60% percent very fast. Then it hangs there for a long time and then starts going down very fast again. In standby it gives me 2-3 days. With wifi turned on, I get about 20-30 minutes. The original battery gives me a couple hours even with wifi turned on.
what you say makes sense, when i called HTC about this overheating / Battery issue they told me that they didn't specifically make batteries. After reading a bunch of posts there seems to be different models from different countries of the hermes. After looking deeper into the battery issue there are also different manufacturer of batteries from different countries also. The thing is HTC can not tell you EXACTLY which on you need cause each operator has different standards for the phone some even modify the phone from HTC... When i called Expansys which was where HTC recommended i purchase the battery from they had 2 models. 1 that was 1300mah and 1350mah. I Opted for the "House" brand instead of the other one which was cheaper in price ... I guess this is the reason. Like memory when it is made in JAPAN its quality is not the same as KOREA.
I agree with regards to the battery quality. That's why I only buy Cameron Sino 1500mAh batteries for my Hermes (I buy them from Morpeth Mobiles here in the UK, they also sell on eBay and I'm sure they'd ship international if you wanted to buy from them).
They handled a recent return excellently and I've been very happy with their service.
The nice thing about the 1500mAh batteries is that they fit inside the case without a replacement back cover...
I know that using 3G can suck the life out of our phones given the awful chipset (using it on GPRS only or in 3G with a very strong signal will always yield better results) but at the moment I'm not sure if it's a problem with this particular battery or with the ROM itself - I have two others with which I can do some comparisons, so I will be doing that later. However, the battery life today has been awful. I got home earlier, and less than 12 hours after being unplugged, my phone was down to 18% battery. Just awful, the worst battery life I've ever seen from my phone. I'm not sure whether it's the fact it's Windows Mobile 6.1 or whether it's a problem with this particular battery or the way the ROM has been cooked... I'll have to do some more experiments, but I know for sure that something's not right!
The roms Also do play a part i beleive, some use up more memory and have processes running.. this uses power. Its the same as a LAPTOP. The LT will not last forever.
But im really dissapointed with the Hermes. i had NON touch screen HTC's . s640 and S621 and they used to go for days on end without charging...
i herd some back feedback on these touch screen phones also ... about the life... but every time also the 3g would murder the battery life!
Although on balance, I still don't think our phone does that badly... You realise that it's almost on-par with the more recent technology, particularly when you hear some of the battery life horror stories from iPhone users, who are dismayed that they can't get more than 12-15 hours' use out of their beloved phone when they attempt to do anything vaguely like USE it (push email, multimedia etc)...
The saga continues.
I may just buy a petrol generator on a small trolley and attach the whole thing to my belt. Now THAT's ultra portability. I could use my phone on 3G for days!
I picked up my Hermes from another xda member a week and a half ago. I flashed to CRC's stable 13.3, added HTC Home and a few other extras, nothing real system heavy or anything. Battery life was abysmal with bluetooth and 3g turned OFF, 3 email accounts syncing every 30 min, on the original 1350mah battery - I was lucky to last half a day.
I ordered a 3000mah extended battery, it arrived yesterday, I let it drain completely. It's fully charged and running now. I have bluetooth and 3g on, and my email accounts are syncing every 10 minutes. I will monitor the battery life over the next few days and report.
I too have noticed the battery meter being very eratic in CRC's stable rom for both batteries. I'm not sure if this is a battery issue or a rom issue. I may try turning 3g off as some have suggested and see if that yields better results.
My previous phone for 8 months was a Motorola Q9H, so I'm not exactly a noob to the winmo world. With the q's extended battery and bluetooth/3g on I was getting a good day and a half to two days with a rather large amount of data use in there. Honestly, as much as I love the upgrade to winmo pro, if the extended battery doesn't do the trick I'll be back to the moto for the remainder of my contract and the Hermes is going on ebay. Anyone with any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
Yep i just installed CRCs Release 13.3 Stable... Looks nice, but i think you are right .... im stuck with this clunker for now cause i need it for work but im waiting on a Touch diamond... As soon as my company can afford it! LOLOLOL
Let us know about the 3000ma bat... Is that the one with the HUGE back door that sticks out?
I seen that online and though to myself.... WTF the phone is already too big!!!
What's your battery life like
I have an HTC TyTN that originally had Windows Mobile 5. I flashed to the rom to 6.1 pro and also noted a significant power drain that I didn't have with 5.0 or 6.0. My thoughts are that moving from 5.0 to 6.1 is much like going from Windows XP to Vista. The power demands are greater. At least that's my hunch.
Roms RULE!
Well i tried all these roms ... The Manilla roms look GREAT the touchflo is really cool!!!! But dam the phone doesnt have enuff ram or juice... So what happens if you get all kinds of bugs ect...
But if you try some of the other 6.1 roms like Black Satin or CRC which dont have touch flo ... the bat is not soo bad... The lite verisons of the roms can also be nice .... But they lack support for other software.
i prefer the classic Windows with the home cause you can use the Screen Lock feature ... specially for the HTC Herm ... i always had it in the pounch then all of a sudden i would pull it out and IE was open!!! or i was calling someone LOLOL that sucks!
i have tried lots of roms that were developed here on xda.
the best battery life was using k's final wm6.0. it was unbeatable.
the other thing is that it also depends on the type of storage version of the rom itself. the big storage roms eat your battery for breakfast but you get better performance.
if you have more today plugins they also eat up the battery
you also should, before flashing your new rom, flash the original rom. after that you flash the normal rom.
you can also check the processes running in the backgroung, maybe there is something left over that occupies the processor.
3g is a big drainer especially if you get to an area where the signal is weak and dissapears. then the phone constantly tries to find the 3g and your battery drains quickly. normaly, when i don't go online as much, i keep 3g swiched off.
now i'am using the new wm6.5 beta and i get more than one full day of battery life of normal usage. phone, mail, internet...

Yea the extended battery turns the Hermes into a tank. It does have a nice feel to it in your hand though, and my Body Glove universal case ($15 walmart) actually fits, although its snug.
If the battery doesn't give me the life I'm looking for from CRC's 6.1, I am considering flashing to the stripped down version of ATT's 6.0 rom, or perhaps trying out the new 6.5 hybrid build from josh. Who knows, maybe CRC's rom is just a battery suck (which I can't imagine it is, it's pretty stripped down/light weight). I guess we will see after a few days here.
NICE!
i would like to try 6.5 .... but i cant seem to find any links with screen shots... If it has any sort of Touch flo ... Forget it ...
Do you have a link to 6.5 WWE?
Interesting about the comments re: big storage eating battery, and interesting also that other people using the same ROM as I am currently are also experiencing battery life problems.
I just swapped out the battery in my device - from the brand new 1500mAh battery to the older (identical) 1500mAh battery, freshly charged. As soon as I got to the Today screen, the battery was already down to 97% - and just sitting on my knee ticking over, it's already gone down to 94%. 93% now!
This is ridiculous. The battery life in WM6.0 is the same (just as bad? ) as the original WM5 ROM I had on it, it's mad to think that a simple point release of an Operating System can cause such a massive difference to battery life.
However, this ROM may have Big Storage enabled, so that could be sucking the battery life out of the poor thing. Does anybody have any pointers or links to previous discussiong about how (or why) Big Storage drains the battery more than a regular ROM?

the best 65 ROM so far and with relatively good battery life.
i had the same problem with the battery life and came to realize that NO rom is good enough in thus area.
i guess that is a small price to pay for free OS
i would also recommend you to try the original ROM for your country or WWE and check his battery life for a few days - you will soon find out that the more application you will install you'll get more processes that are running in the background = less battery life.
if you can live with the default WM - you wull get the best battery life.
Hehe, unfortunately the ROM which came with my phone was from my phone provider - T-Mobile UK - and it is awful! Broken Bluetooth, huge lag on the phone because of all the preinstalled crap, almost no free device memory, slow to respond generally... All of these new ROMs I've flashed make my device feel so quick again! It's amazing what a small change can do.
Has anybody cooked a WM6 ROM without the honeycomb Today screen interface? And is it totally impossible to go back to WM6/6.1 after you flash 6.5?

[Q] Poor battery life with non Sense ROMs

Dear all,
I have a EURO Desire Z.
When I use a Sense based ROMs (in fact, stock or Virtuous) I have a fairly nice battery life, that is, in the 30 hours range.
However, with any kind of CM6 or CM7 (or even Vilain ROMs), the battery life is really reduced. Like 12-15h max (almost without any use).
The battery monitor will show that most power is eaten by Cell Standby, Wifi and Bluetooth. I tried different radios, but the result is still the same. I also tried various CPU governor settings, but it didn't change the big picture.
Any idea on what may be wrong ?
I found that CM6.1.1 did that to me too, but reverting to 6.1 got me very good battery life. While I like the Sense widgets, I much prefer vanilla for everything else so i have't lived with a Sense rom long enough to see if it gets better battery life than CM6.1

I have the exact same issue as you with CM6 (retarded <12 hr battery life with light-moderate use). After seeing your post, I've decided to try a sense rom for myself. Will post results tonight or in a day.
Nope. Still drains like ****.
This may be teaching you to suck eggs, but are you recalibrating your battery after flashing a new ROM?
I found my battery life was immediately atrocious after flashing, until I completely drained the battery til phone wouldn't switch, then charge while switched off, until green light + a couple of hours. Then wipe battery stats in ClockworkMod.
After this, I found my battery life on CM 6 was really good.

No, I never did that. I'm not really familiar with the "battery calibration" stuff, but it sounds like something that will help to get good linearity in battery capacity estimation over time.
What I'm pretty sure, though, is that at some point (like 10-12h), the phone turns itself off. I believe that it has to do with insufficient voltage at battery terminals, rather than some sort of estimation of remaining capacity.
Or am I totally off ?

CleanRom 5 battery

Hi,
This question is for anyone using the latest CleanRom on their Note II. Just wondering if your average battery drain is around 4-5%/h. I use BetteryBatteryStats. I also check the Battery section under Settings. The most battery life I have been able to get is 12 - 15 h with 1-2h screen time. At this point, the battery is at less than 10%. Is this normal ? I thought I remembered getting better life from older versions of CleanRom. I know these numbers are never achievable on any AOSP rom that I have tried. Just wanted to see what everyone's experience is with battery life. Just post any thoughts!
Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate your time!

Just like anyone else, it all depends on what kernel you're on and what apps you have wakelocking. I've been using Clean 5.0 as my daily for months and the battery life lasts me throughout the day until I need to sleep at which point I plug in... but sometimes, I'm running into fast battery drain due to some apps going nuts on me or when Bluetooth is trying to link from a long distance (where the phone would heat up and drain like mad... btw this only happened to me twice in many months). After a reboot, it usually clears up and after a recharge, I'm back to 14 hours with 20% left at night. I'm not one to be anal about my battery drain if it lasts me until I sleep (because I have NEVER had a smartphone that would last me that long without plugging in... in fact, barely half the day would be when my device would need to be fed).
I'm using Perseus' latest with a few screen tweaks, no CPU or power tweaks, using Facebook constantly, Pulse, SMS/MMS, camera throughout the day, Next 3D launcher with all the fun animations running, YouTube, Pandora when driving (so my Bluetooth is on constantly)... let's just say I'm a heavy user. When my kids get a hold of my device, they run a bunch of games and drain around 10% by the time I get it back.
I am happy with the battery life on my Clean Rom 5.0/Perseus Note II. I won't fuss about it as long as it lasts longer than half the day because that is what I was used before upgrading.

Horrible battery life

One of the great things about the mate is the great battery life.
Or used to be, as mine seems to be going down the drain.
I'm running CM 10.1 by joe stone, and have enjoyed using it as my daily driver. But I thought that battery life was getting worse lately.
Well, today it has shown a horrible performance:
From fully charged to 13% in 9 and a half hours, with according to stats, 75% used for Android-system.
Can an android system get "dirty" over time or "clogged up" and is this a software thing, or is my battery dying?
Can you recommend any tests I can do?
Guess youve tried another charger/chargercable?
Actually, no I have not, did not know that can make a difference. So thanks, I'll see where that takes me.
I use the original charger with a long after market cable.

so, the battery drain is real...

I thought people were just exaggerating (i still have hope that i'm exaggerating) but man, i just got this phone and holy hell is the battery getting destroyed by "android os"
It won't even last a day with minimal/medium usage (some bluetooth and hotspot use here and there)
I'm coming from a galaxy s3 (which had better battery life).
I've tried installing a 5.1.1 rom but it seems to have no effect.
Has anyone figured out how to 'fix' this? Or can recommend a good rom (or kernel?) to get battery life representative of what i think a 3000 mah battery should be?
Thanks.

Greenify and the .97 OTA seems to provide decent battery life. Getting about 5 hours+ of SOT. Try using a separate app to see which apps are consuming the most battery and disable all the system apps you don't use.
I installed a barebones rom.
What concerns me is i had the same set up on my Galaxy S3 (5.1.1. lollipop with same apps), and the battery life on this zenfone has just been atrocious (leading me to believe 5.1.1 is not the problem, per se).
Am I wrong, did they not optimize this phone properly or something?
I do not have any issue with batery life. Mine last one day easy with medium to heavy use. Just do some charging cycles
I usually get a day with 4 to 6 hours SOT, without doing anything special to save battery
Do 3 drains to 1 % - you may find it stays longer during the lower 20% range so use a youtube film or sommat to blast it down,
then do a factory reset on the latest build.
Did this at the beginning when was only getting 10hrs max ugh !
Now easy 36hrs decent usage
I get a full days use (medium/heavy) with mine, not rooted not custom rom. I usually have about 20% left before it hits the charger. I have noticed small increases in battery life at every firmware update. I can't really complain, came from a Galaxy S5 and battery was about the same if not worst, but S5 had removeable battery. I've used a lot of smartphones and honestly, most will get your through the day and evening but that's about it, yeah, you might have some for the next day but most will through it on the charger by end of the night. My wife has the Iphone 4s and yeah, the battery lasts longer but the screen is almost half the size of mine, screen size makes a big dif.
