Help! - using UK Compact IV on At&T NY??? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi
I've had a Compact IV/HTC Diamond for a good while now. Very familiar with flashing roms/radios etc, and looking for advice.
Wanted to use the phone with a AT&T sim whilst in NY,
Phone is fully unlocked and tested in UK, but when I put a PAYG AT&T sim in NY it just states that phone isnt ready and no network is found.
I suspect that this might be down to the RADIO ROM - looking for somone to point me in the right direction to a suitable radio if this is the case...
GSM is available in the area according to at&t website, so rules out the WCDMA (UK) vs CDMA2000 (US)...
Phone will now be mainly used in NY on AT&T if I can get it working with your help... (father in-law just moved out there with one of my diamonds!!)
Help? Thoughts? any help/comments appreciated
Thanks

AT&T SX56 and Special Rom Edition Rom 1.2 troubles

I had an AT&T SX56 phone and it worked great. I just bought another one because mine broke. I used the sim card that was in my old phone but it doesn't pick up ANY network. When I went to manually choose a network, they were all European networks. Nothing from the US was even listed. It has a somewhat different software that I am used too. When it boots up it says it is running xda-developers Special Edition ROM V1.2. Is there anything I can do to fix this all up Also, the desktop is a bit cluttered for me, is it possible to have just the standard AT&T desktop?
i think it has something todo with different bands (900 1800 1900). but don't know the exact details.
maybe try a search on band selection?

It helps alot .
Have you tried entering bootloader mode and choosing 900/1900 from the gsm menu?
after reading this post I am wondering if you can somehow change the band that a Qtec 2020 runs on. right now mine runs on 900 usa but I'm wanting to change it to 850 usa cingular uses it and it has a much stronger signal in my area. Please let me know if there is. thanks

Universal questions

Hi guys, i am getting a universal from the UK in about 2 weeks and i have some questions.
1. Is it unlockable yet?
2. Is bluetooth stable, not cutting off during calls and stuff?
3. Since it is WCDMA, does that mean i can use it with CDMA services here in the states like sprint and Verizon?
4. What is the best case for it
Thanks for reading my questions, you replies will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Obiesoft,
1. Not yet to my knowledge... Keep an eye on the 'universal' unlocker from this forum. An app that is updated over and over to add support for new phones.
2. Did not try yet, sorry, one of the other ones ?
3. Most likely not. UMTS here in Europe is on 2100 Mhz, as radio bands are of course regulated per country, you might want to see with your wireless provider if they a) use 'UMTS or WCDMA' as a standard, and b) if they also operate on the 2100 Mhz band. In the phone there is only one band available for UMTS connections.
GSM in general is provided in bigger cities in the states, you have to check which wireless provider has it in your area, some might even have the Qtek 9000 with an interesting price if you take one of their plans.
(T-Mobile) Be carefull nevertheless, the USA has GSM services on 1900 Mhz and on 850 Mhz, the Universal can do w/o a problem the 1900 Mhz band, but to my knowledge not the 850 Mhz band. You would be out of luck if your cellular provider only provides services on this band. Check also if you have to be a lot in rural areas, as far as I notices coverage there is way less on GSM systems.
4. I'm happy with the 'leatherishlike' one it comes with. Sleek, and it does protect it very well. Snug, just no belt-clip, that's all.
Hope you'll be having fun with your device ! (Well, all depends of course if you can get it either sim-unlocked or from one of your local providers...)
Willem
Thanks
Thanks for your reply
I hope there will be an unlocker soon, i have Tmobile here in Florida, i will call to find out of they use 1900 or 850Mhz. I will probably try asking Tmobile UK or something.
The reason for me asking if it will work with USA CDMA is that i also have an account with a CDMA provider so it would be cool if i could use two providers on one phone, probably switching between them.
I have a MDAIII with WM5 and the bluetooth does not work, keeps d/c so i hope this one stays on with the MDA PRO.

I know that T-Mobile Germany sells the device w/o SIMlock. Might be an option. The QTEK versions of the device come also w/o SIMlock. I don't know if T-Mobile Germany ships the device outside europe, you might want to have a look at http://www.expansys-usa.com, they have a Spanish version of the QTEK you can easily reflash to the WWE version, new and not locked for a whopping 1045 USD.
P.S. I have no commercial relation to either T-Mobile or Expansys and both links are provided only for informational purposes.
Obiesoft, I have PM'd you.
simlock
t-mobile.germany has no SimLock - that's right!
but they did a NETLock!! - you#ve got to pay 100-300 € to get it unlocked for other networks. If You know where to find Band-Information i can tell you if it supports yours.
Universal is not working on CDMA One/CDMA 2000/EVDO networks.
In US, it will work for voice calls and GPRS on the 1900 networks like T-Mobile US. You will have to wait for T-Mobile US to launch UMTS (WCDMA) as it is planned, but I'm not sure they will use the same bands as in Europe.
MDA PRO
I did not check here sooner, my girlfriend is in london and she got the MDA PRO since she just renewed her contract. I am guessing it will be locked cause she is just shipping it and i will get it next week. Tmobile UK said they can unlock it for 15 pounds and it will take 28 days, so in the mean time i am hoping there is another way for me to unlock it.

Verizon Xv6600

hi, can anybody tell me if a VERIZON XV6600 can be unlocked for all networks, if it can would be possible to use a 3g orange uk usim? i think i right in saying that this phone is a ba but it uses cdma instead of gsm. if im wrong im sorry. thanks for your help.

How to change carrier on TP2 - Telus to Rogers.

Hey guys... here is a simple questions but I need your help.
Id like to buy from a friend a HTC touch pro2 with WM6.5 on it.. originally bought from Telus...
I am on Rogers...
When I put my SIM card in it... it says... SIM card isnt valid... Please insert a valid SIM Card.
Is there anything I need to do to fully unlocked this phone?
I tought that since Mighty Rom is running on it... it was fullly unlocked... but it doesnt seems to work..
Any help will be appreciated!
Regards,
Jeff
You need to get your phone sim unlocked to allow it to work on a different network. Telus can provide it or there are aftermarket ones you can use. Olinex has a sim unlocking service. You can find info on the first post of his HardSpl sticky in the rom section.
Once you have it sim unlocked it will work on Rogers but you will not get any 3g coverage as that phone has the wrong frequencies for the Rogers network.
.... 3g + with telus either
Hey InRBigness
thanks for your quick reply.
This phone isnt getting the 3g+ from telus either... I bought it before they launched the 3g+ network. So I guess its not a big difference right ?
thanks for your help and point of view about this

[Q] do I need to flash my radio to use TP2 abroad?

Hi there,
I'm totally confused as to what I need to do to get my Touch Pro 2 (currently activated on Boost CDMA) to work abroad, specifically Canada.
It is flashed with Energy ROM, Reference version.
Do I need to do a Radio flash? Do I need to tweak some settings? Both? Neither?
I'm going to be in Canada for 3 weeks and plan to use either Rogers or Fido's GSM Pay as You Go (already have the SIM cards), or Telus's CDMA Pay as You Go.
I've read the FAQs and generally understand that this is possible -- just not clear the route.
Thanks,
Simmy
The biggest problem with Canada is our carriers don't want people coming in and using their networks without paying for it, and that usually means your first born here.
The hardware problem is, the TP2 will not work on the frequencies in Canada that Telus has used for the HSPA / 4G network. And using the current CDMA network is not possible either because Telus and Bell will not allow you to put branded phones from other companies on the old network and CDMA systems don't use SIM cards. So if your planning on bringing the TP2 up here I think you may be out of luck.
I took the TP2 to Ireland and was able to use the frequencies there on the O2 network, but to do that I had to unlock the phone and as i have the "world edition" with the SIM card slot once unlocked it worked over there no issue, and returned working over here with no SIM card in it. But again this is a frequency issue and telus tells us it won't work.
Now if when you get here, and you plug a sim card in and it does work, please share, because it means we can manually add frequencies and hook to both the old and new network. And some of us with the original unlimited data contracts (no 10 gig cap) would be really happy to know this.
As for Rogers, i can't tell you. I don't know if they have ever had the TP2 and have no clue what frequency they are using for their phones, though i'm sure it's similar.
Flashing the radio does nothing to add radios or affect your ability to connect to the network while abroad. Its usually just done to improve reception and/or battery life.
You will need your phone SIM unlocked. Then, as the post above suggests, either putting in the SIM works, or it doesn't.
Thanks to both of you for your reply.
So the TP2 won't work on any Canadian CDMA networks, but since it also has GSM, if I stick a Rogers or Fido SIM card in it, it *may* work. In fact, I believe it *should* work. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
And thanks for answering my question re: radio ROMs, Redpoint -- that's what I thought, but was still confused about.
So, with respect to unlocking, is the Olipro page that charges 11 pounds / 14 euros / $20 my best/cheapest option? (unfortunately, i can't link to it here because I'm a new member)
Thank muchly,
Simmy
The device should have no trouble connecting to a normal GSM network in Canada. The Canadian GSM networks use the GSM-1900 and GSM-850 bands. The CDMA Rhodiums use a quad band frequency that spans all of 850/900/1800/1900 MHz channels. You should have no problems in Canada. Enjoy your trip.
You do not need to flash a new radio to have it work in Canada.
