Looking For Rom - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hello.
i`m quite new in Hermes (just bought one) and to be honest i`m quite impressed with the abilities of this phone.
But i bought it not as Phone but as PDA (my SIM card only supports Internet, normal SMS/MMS/GSM isnt even enabled)
And now i`m searching for PDA type of ROM
Very Good Calendar.
Good PDF/DOC etc reading/editing abilities. Good web support (Java, Flash, Opera Mini 4+?)
Decent Movie/Music abilities (Like playing .avi)
Phone/SMS/MMS functions are obsolete for me.
I first bought my phone with old http://wmblack.info/
On it .avi using CorePlayer were ok. But all PDF`s werent running good. Problems with zooming, running out of memory etc.
Just now following this forum, i flashed to Dark Visions v5.0
But on it, i dunno why .avi is shattered. But PDF`s are ok.
And DarkVision`s have a lot of useful applications included.
Right now i`m flashing to Black Satin ROM.
Sorry for my lame english, and i would really appreciate any suggestions if this kind of ROM exist, or do i have to experiment with current roms, and try to create one myself.

So many roms...ARGHHHH

Guys,
Been testing the various roms available for some time now, XDALive, Black, Schaps etc but just can't find a single Rom that allows the phone to function as its supposed to, i.e. Fast, efficient and usable.
XDA Live and Black appeared to be great at first, until I installed TomTom and a few other minor apps, at which point they just slowed until the phone took 2/3 seconds to come out of standby, and when ringing the phone, it wouldn't even make a sound until the 2nd/3rd ring!?
Yesterday I flashed to Schaps and its even worse, before installing ANYTHING extra! 3/4 seconds from standby although it is a great looking rom.
Just seems a real shame, is the phone's hardware the limitation or is there a Rom out there that really does make a good job of enabling the best functionality from the Hermes??

Same-same feeling here. Tried all, still can't get the reliability and responsiveness of original WM5 Jasjam ROM. It's not a rant and of course I can always go back, but it makes me wander never the less..
Edit 15:30,
Well after such a statement I guess I owe some specifics:
- Hermes 100 and 200
- SPL-2.10.Olipro
- IPL: 1.04
- Radio: v1.43.00.00
- Tried the various available RTM versions, much too slow responding, haven't resolved the SOD problem for me
- reverted to what I consider to be the most stable and comfortable release - LVSW 19/5 (elf edition), still experience SOD but apprx. once in 24 Hrs. Still makes the WM6 Hermes unreliable as a phone, since for those unfamiliar with SOD, it means that while actually frozen, the phone looks externaly to be OK and working, respective LEDs blinking. Tried all solutions known and yet some.. drafted to this some heavy dev colleagues but still there.
Frustrating isn't it, perhaps the Hermes just isn't ready for WM6, would be logical as they haven't launched the Hermes OEM with WM6 yet have they?
Cheers, Ash
If you have a bit, give my latest ROM a try and tell me what you think.

Can do, how do you believe its better than the rest? Where can I get it from?
Thanks mate!
Click the link on my sig.
My ROM is a graft and is not based on any one m$ hermes build. It has components from a number of different devices.

Sleuth255, you are counted with the serious in my book, so I should definitely do so. At the moment I kind of stabilized my devices (less than a SOD in every 24 Hrs. time frame), and I am pretty dependant on my phone.. but... at same time I've a XDA-dev soul, so I don't count on myself to withstand the temptation to try yours...
However Ash's quest remains. WTF happens with WM6 on the Hermes. No disrespect to those praising it, but if it doesn't work here, it most probably doesn't work elsewhere if you push it to same limits I do.. And where is HTC's RTM. I would expect it's core to be reasonably well, then use it in the kitchen for "our flavours", but apparently RTM is not there yet, or is it RTM ?

Sleuth255, you are counted with the honorable in my address book, so I should definitely try yours, thank you. In any case Ash's quest remains. WTF happens with WM6 on the Hermes. No disrespect to those praising it, but if it doesn't work here, it most probably doesn't work elsewhere. At least if you push the envelope to same limits I do.. And where is HTC's RTM. I would expect it's core to first be reasonably solid, then use it in the kitchen for cooking our flavours, but apparently RTM is not there yet, or is it RTM at all, and if it is how come it ain't published on HTC support site yet ?
Questions..questions... but it's fun, isn't it ?
HTC's core CE/XIP for hermes was RTM as of v5.2.1238 and is quite stable IMO. It's the IMGFS that's buggy.
Hermes has always had issues coming out of standby and this delay is what affects the time the call connects to the time you hear the first ring. I noticed this the very first time I tried my TyTN (coming from a Wizard).
I've always wanted to uncover the specific code that handles this because there's also a nagging bit that forces portrait mode as a workaround for the magnets in the case Because of this, I have to disable standby whenever I'm using my stowaway bt keyboard.
edit: SOD could be solved as well by dis-assembling this code...
Sleuth, I agree with you (again). And you are also very right on RTM (I happen to be somehow..remotely... connected to them people in Redmond, but I shouldn't exploit this subject too much here.....
Anyway it's pi__ing me off quite a lot and the "Israeli Team" has given SOD a good chunk of time to no result. What amazes me is that this is one Huge issue that doesn't ring an alarm at HTC's.. BTW assuming that under the hood Hermes 100 and Hermes 200 are one and the same (so says my favorite CTO), I can't understand how would my JasJam (original WM5 ROM) be bullet proof in respect to SOD, while my TyTn showed SOD and call delay on WM5 as well. Maybe all Hermesses weren't born equal (and I refer to the latest crop, post childhood issues).
I happened to work with HTC and I know them to take stuff like this seriously. What happens here ....
So can we conclude that the Hermes wasn't ever *supposed* to run WM6, hence why all the WM6 roms just simply don't really work very well once you install just a couple of apps? Some without even installing supplemental programs?
I can't conclude that. WM6 works wonderfully on my hermes. I can conclude at this point that the device has some powersave related ideosyncracies that may or may not be software related. This is why I'm interested in your XP with my ROM.

I agree with Sleuth, WM6 works so much better on my TyTn than WM5... In every way.
Ok, the (slight) wakeup delay at phonecalls is there but certainly no more than with WM5. And Sleuth's new ROM is very stabile, pretty fast and with very little memory leaks.
At least it is in my case...
Ive been using WM6 releases for hermes since they first surfaced
my favourites are
Schap's WM6 Pro 3.30c
LVSW (latest June release)
Windows Mobile VI Pro - Black 2.5
I don't use Device for gaming at all
I use It strictly for work, this means:
Organizing my day with SBSH PocketBreeze
Chatting with Live messenger
see the weather news with weatherPanel (Schap's ROM replaced my choice of weatherpanel)
I work with/edit simple word documents on the road and e-mail them
Take many photos and record videos
and also watch big videos 22~50megs in both .wmv and .3gp format
Surely some ROM's were a real pain and unstable
with the above mentioned ROM's
My device Is stable and fast
Reading around thoughts and opinions surely will help many new to the PDA scene and surely will reward them with knowledge and make their WM experience more fun and useful rather than adventurous and experimenting
Definetely my TyTN is more useful fast and stable now with WM6
rather than when It was fueled with WM5
Just my 2 cents

Same here, I'm very pleased with WM6 (currently vp3G). I've installed some apps and its faster and more stable than before. I have no freezes, no sleeps of dead, no lock ups - with none of the Roms.
Programs in use:
Always running:
.) ILauncher
.) PhotoContactsPro
.) BatteryStatus
Installed:
.) Mobipocket Reader
.) SK Tools
.) Vijay's Brighter Screen
.) enAlarm
.) GS Finder
.) Total Commander
.) PocketIrked
My first WM6 ROM was the XDA Live.. then I started playing with the free storage.. created modified XDA Live ROM ( later called "WM6 Brick" because it wouldn't boot for ppl without MFG BL).. anyway.. a week later I bricked my Hermes completely trying to get it working with all BLs.. Then I was out for 2 months.. as my Hermes was being repaired..
When it came back I started flashing it with different WM6 roms.. (I guess I liked it much more when there had been only one wm6 rom available). They've all looked nice.. but none of them have been stable. I don't care so much about the speed.. but I hate when it freezes while I am scrolling the file list in the built-in Explorer.. and this happens with all WM6 roms I've tested.
I guess that at some point it will be stable enough for me to use it.. but as I don't need html-emails.. or sd-card encryption I guess I'll stick to WM5 for a while :/
I've tried:
Custel 2.5
ALL of the Blacks
Elf's 2.1
LVSW
Faria
I am with Custel 2.5 right now and I love it. No sleeps of death here.
I'm running:
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Weather
SPB Phone Profile
IM+
Today Agenda
MobiReader
Google Maps (Latest Build)
MortgageCALC
After being "awake" for 12 hours, I still have 23.4 MB of memory avail. with normal usage.
I don't do any media on my phone; I don't even have the media net settings loaded to my connections. I use it strictly for business: direct push mail, text message between the contractors, phone calls, scheduling and looking up houses, google search quite a bit and the PIM software.
Perfect ROM for me:
4mb pagepool
HTweak 1.5
Windows Media Player (for ring tones only)
Office 2007
RedEdit
NO Task Manager
Java Manager
Internet Sharing
NO Streaming Media
NO Audio Manager
PocketRAR
The updated file explorer that's floating
NO Live
NO Messenger
Unfortunately I'm not a cook.
Jim
I have tried both the Elf V2.1 and the BlackShadow and both have worked very well for me so far. I have so far only added the following external apps:
1. Ateksoft Webcamera Plus
2. Adobe Flash Lite 2.1
3. Adobe Reader LE 2
I definitely love my phone now even more so than when I first bought it when it came with WM5.
ROM, Radios, Carriers, Phones each has its own benefits, if you put some together they dnt work, you can change one thing it could work.
i can honestly say that i have only had problems with the early blacks, shadow works fine for me, wheras others worship black 2.5.
personally i always use sleuths roms they definately the fastest & most stable (for me anyway!!)
One last tip
Unless you are in the UK dont use radio 1.43 it is designed for the UK and not too good elsewhere

I think my v3.0 *almost* fits your "perfect rom"

WM6.1 or WM6 ? And Other Stuff

Basically, I use my TYTN to take the odd picture, write stuff on WORD, play lots of games and browse using netfront, using a older ROM, will it make difference? also, because there is well over 100 roms for either, it would be nice to know a good rom, fast, not buggy, doesnt need hard resets very often, do any of you recommend a good rom? also, although i made a rom well over a year ago, which is the best (and noob-y friendly) kitchen to cook maybe a little rom dish of my own?
Any help given is appreciated.
Regards
The reason I ask is, I have been away from PDA's for well over a year
Thanks for any help
Hi, welcome back. There are many WM6.1 rom threads on page 1 for u to check out (forget the old wm6.0). Here's a thread post's info on the same question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442159
6.1 vs 6.0
I like all the flash which is built into most of the newer (6.1) roms, but after trying most all of them have stayed with 6.0. The major reason is stability. I have not yet had a 6.1 rom go more than 4 days without needing a hard reset. For those who are into flashing frequently anyway, that's no big deal. But if you want a rom that works reliably, and that you can load up with software without worrying about having to reload everything after a hard reset, I'd stick with 6.0.
Best wishes all,
For the Hermes, I have to agree with Edhaas. 6.1 has never worked as solidly for me as 6.1. (My Athena is another matter.) If you can do without the threaded SMS, then stick with 6.0.
Two I recommend are:
Edhaas' SuperD-Lite (Most worry-free ROM of the 25 or so that I have flashed to the Hermes.)
Or Shamanix Ultimate V2 (Very solid with more polish than SuperD-Lite.)
And as far as Kitchens are concerned, I found the easiest to use was Matt's Pandora Kitchen. It has a lot of options to play around with, so don't expect to get things perfect the first time, but once it is set up it is dead easy to make a ROM.

Show off the Hermes!!!

Now i got a few friends interested in moving from nokia symbian to WMobile.... Now..... I need your help....
I want to really show off my phone to friends..... a good rom, with a few bits to customise it to make it look the dogs
what bits/extras can I add, screen changers, today plugins etc, and a great rom that can use opera and netfront without freezing, possibly youtube player too.... I want to be able to run a good half dozen games too, and (if i can) have good memory....
Can you help?
For a smoking fast rom, you can try joshkoss's halloween rom.
I don't use much in the way of looking pretty, just pocket digital clock, and other "normal" today plugins, like wireless, calendar, and tasks.
as for a game, you could put Doom on it.
Not sure what you're looking for in as far as impressing folks. Personally, I find that speed impresses more than click, wait, wait, click....
Currently I'm using the PDAVIET rom,
[31Oct08] WM6.1 TOUCH Build20924 V27 from Dvha79_ddt [Basic & Full] NetCF3.5, basic version.
It runs fast, looks good, and is stable. I've had no hard or soft resets with this one. I also like PDACorner roms, but have better luck with this one.
The touchflo and such is eye candy, but it loses some of it's luster when you make a click or action, then wait.
Not sure if this helps, but I'm very happy with this rom so far. Best of luck to you.

for that you definitely need microsoft voice command. if you dont know it search a demo video on youtube.
just make sure you're comparing apples with apples
.. as if you were comparing a N96 to the hermes ... there is no contest.

where to start

i have a new touch pro 2 coming tomorrow
im a windows mobile virgin never used it before
so where do i start with software,
what must haves should i put on it, and what hacks (if any should i do )
want sat nav if possible, watch movies, music etc
thanks for any advice
In terms of nav, I've used TomTom 6 and 7 on winmo, both are really good. Copilot Live is also highly rated, so I'd go for one of them - would have to be TomTom 6 on the TP2 though since you can't buy TT7, only get it already installed on some devices.
Have a look at the SPB website - the do some great software for winmo phones (SPB Traveller, SPB Weather, SPB Time, but probably best of all SPB Mobile Shell 3 - you'll see it called MS3 a lot on here).
Personally I also use PocketInformant for calendar, PIM type stuff, that's made by WebIS. Handango is a good site for finding tons of winmo apps etc... it's basically just a case of go browsing thos kinds of shops and see if they have stuff that fits your needs (or more likely just your wants )
In terms of movies and music, it will come with built in players which should do the job well. You can get DivX player for winmo which could be useful (can't remember if the inbuilt one will play divx).
Good luck, it's a whole new world, and if you're already on here then you'll be hooked to this place as it's a total gold mine!
thanks but what i also men is where to start with custom roms, install stuff from cab
its all over my head is there an idiots guide i can start reading up on stuff
Custom ROMs are amazing, and if you want one, this is the place to look. However, this device is still so new that there are no custom ROMs as of yet. The brilliant minds behind this place still need to make HardSPL for this device, and test it too. We can't flash custom ROMs until that's done. If you're curious about HardSPL and what its purpose is, I suggest seeking further information in the wiki.
Anyways, once they've made HardSPL, I'm sure someone will write a "Flashing your first Rhodium ROM for noobs" guide in the Rhodium ROM Development forum. And believe me when I say that with a little know-how, some adrenaline, and a good guide, anyone can flash a custom ROM.
And if you're curious about Windows Mobile, simply try playing around with it for a while. It has a bit of a learning curve, but I've never met anybody who couldn't figure it out eventually. The wiki here at XDA also helps.
Or, if you'd rather read a book, there is helpful book called "How to do everything with Windows Mobile", or something like that. It doesn't cover fun stuff like linux, bootloaders, or custom ROMs though. I'm not sure if it's available where you live, but I bought that book a week or two before I received my Kaiser, and although a bit outdated, it helped me with the basics of WM. In actuality, you probably don't need the book, but it sure can help sometimes.
Oh, and cab files are probably the simplest aspect of WM. You put the .cab on your device, open file explorer, find it, and tap on it. It walks you through a simple procedure, and then you're done! I hope that pretty much answers your questions,
Dave
I second the TomTom 6 vote. Having used several GPS programs, I find it user friendly. Not sure what else to say about that really!
I too use Pocket Informant for PIM. It's better than the standard software, no idea how it compares as I got it as a freebie from mobihand.com. It seems powerful, again easy to use, and worth purchasing.
Don't think the included Pocket version of Media Player can handle DivX or .avi files. Go for Core Player. I use an old version that seems good. Most here rate it.
If HTC have included their Audio Manager (it was included as standard on my TyTnII), stick with that for music. It's pretty good and can be used one handed. Again better than the standard MS one, but I'm not convinced its worth paying for an MP3 player app.
Suggestion, if you are a WinMo virgin, stick with the stock ROM etc for a while and just learn the device / OS. I had an old WM5 mobile (HTC Universal) that I flashed with a custom ROM to upgrade it to WM6, simply because there were features missing in WM5. I've now had my TyTnII for nearly 18 months running the stock operators ROM (o2 UK, WM6) and have been perfectly happy with it. I don't see the point of flashing the device "just for the hell of it", when there is a chance of turning it into a £500 brick. That's just me, I sibscribe to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" way of life.
Can't wait til I can get one!

Some questions about the Touch Pro 2 [follower model, BlackBerry, Performance, Apps]

Hey there,
right now I am thinking about getting a new device and there are some questions that keep me awake at night.
1. Are there any news or rumors about the following model of the Touch Pro 2 ?
1.1 When do you expect the follower model of the TP2?
2. As far as I know from going through the respective threads, there is no possibility yet to get BlackBerry Messenger working on the TP2. Is that just a matter of (a bit of) time, or does this require some hardware/server/technical changes from BlackBerry?
Since in (most) German mobile phone stores the devices on display are not working (you can't switch em on), I wanted to ask about the performance of the TP 2.
3. Is the (outdated?) 528 Mhz processor of the TP2 capable of running smooth 3D user interface operations (I think it's called Manila) on the org. WM6.5 ROM?
3.1 While the TP2 comes with the standard WM6.1 ROM, would you recommend to switch to the org. WM6.5 ROM or are there any cooked ROMs which are not too much about customizing, but optimizing performance or overclocking?
4. I couldnt find anything about that on the HTC website, but does the org. WM6.5 ROM include apps like Facebook, Twitter, etc.?
4.1 Does the org. WM6.5 ROM for the Touch Pro 2 include HTC Sense, or more like: does it have the same user interface and functions as the Touch HD2 ROM? And if not, is there any cooked ROM for the TP2 that has all (or some of) those functions and is it working properly/smoothly? (just asking because the HD2 runs on a twice-as-fast 1 Ghz processor).
5. If you have time and feel like answering this: Are there any Apps for the TP2 that make or life easier, increase the performance, simplify the handling, etc.?
I would really appreciate some help on these questions.
Thanks a lot in advance for your answers.
an answer to only some of those questions would be helpful already
1. Here's a page with the supposed HTC roadmap for devices of 2010. Keep in mind these are leaked files; the phones might not be released, or there might be phones that are not on the list that could launch this year.
The last phone mentioned is the HTC Tera. This seems to be a more powerful (600Mhz CPU), yet downgraded TP2 (check out some of the mentioned specs, and look at the picture of the more inferior keyboard). IMO, I don't think it's worth waiting for this!
3. I don't have, nor have I ever tried, the official HTC-released WM6.5 ROM. I'm using a beta-ROM of WM6.5.5, which has the Start button at the bottom left of the screen. The processor is "outdated," especially since it was present on the original HTC TP1 (Raphael).
I have tried the stock-carrier-ROM with WM6.5 and Manila 2.1 for T-Mobile USA (HTC's ROM is also WM6.5 with Manila 2.1) and the Manila UI (the screens with the slider/tabs at the bottom of the screen) was fast.
3.1 Some people prefer not to switch to WM6.5 as it uses more program memory to process all of the graphical changes.
If you look for ark666's Rhodium_AF ROMs in the ROMs section, you might find they look very "stock-ish" but run efficiently.
4. I believe there is Facebook integration in the ROM. Otherwise, you could go into the new WM Marketplace on the TP2 and download the Facebook App for free. Likewise (I think) for Twitter.
4.1 The HTC ROM comes with Manila (aka Sense) 2.1. Sense 2.1 looks something like this (of course, there will be some visual differences, as this is customized).
Sense2.5 is currently official to run only on the HTC HD2. XDA-Developer ROM chefs, however, have ported this to many other HTC devices. Sense 2.5 looks like this. These are usually a little laggier, but not too much. I've loved these "'Leo' ROMs for Rhodium" for 4 months now.
5. There are many apps out there! You would definitely want to have Advanced Configuration Tool as it contains many tweaks.
Here's where you can get apps: 1800PocketPC, WM6software, freewarepocketpc, the WM Marketplace on the WM6.5 (though there's a download to get it on WM6.1) update, XDA-Developers (via searching). You will notice many apps can be found in any -- if not all -- of the links. There are many people who upload the same software on different websites.
Thanks heaps sumflipnol!
1. I totally agree, the HTC Tera (as of todays available information) doesnt seem to be worth waitnig for.
3. & 3.1. You said ark666's Rhodium_AF Roms are WM6.1 and run efficiently. So I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552821 As far as I understand, he is offering 2 versions: 21889 as WM6.1 and 23518 which is the WM6.5 version with Manila 2.5 (looks like that in the youtube video he posted). Are both version working smoothly/efficiently?
4. & 4.1. I took a look at the Energy "Leo" ROM and it looked very nice. What I really like about Manila 2.5 is the bigger buttons which makes it easier to navigate with fingers. But what are the differences to ark666's 23518 ROM?
What I would appreciate is a smoothly running ROM with Manila 2.5 (the bigger buttons). So I dont know which would be the better choice. ark666's 23518 ROM or Energy "Leo"'s?
5. Thanks a lot for that. I saw a bunch of useful Apps on those sites. However there are 2 Apps I would really like to have:
A. WMWifiRouter (which turns you phone into a regular Router so you can connect your laptop via wireless and have mobile internet), but the website (http://www.wmwifirouter.com) doesn't say whether it's working for WM6.1/6.5 or not.
B. An App which I dont know the name of, but I know it is available for Iphone. With this App you can let your phone record a few seconds of a song (maybe while driving and listening to the radio) and then it searches online for the Artist and Title of the song.
If anyone knows anything regarding question 2 (BlackBerry Messenger), it would be much appreciated, since most of my contacts have BlackBerrys.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the BB questions, but I've got some other stuff that might be useful...
WMWifiRouter should work for you in 6.1/6.5. They have a time-limited trial version so you can give it a test drive first, I've attached the cab below. However, there's also a free solution available here on xda that may be adequate for you, it's called HTC CM Wifi Internet Sharing, details on THIS THREAD. Try 'em both out and see what you prefer...the free one works just fine for me!
The music app you're thinking of is probably Shazam, and it's available in the windows marketplace. There's also at least one other app that claims to do the same thing, but I think Shazam is the more mature and widespread app.

3. & 3.1. Sorry! I meant ark666's ROMs are all WM6.5, but they look close to a stock ROM, and run as efficiently as WM6.1 (so I've been told)!
Build 21889 is WM6.5, which [still] has the Start button at the top-left corner.
Builds with 23xxx, 24xxx, 28xxx are WM6.5.X (X being either 3 or 5). These have the Start button at the bottom-left of the screen, as you can see in the Sense2.1 link I had in my previous post.
Based on that info ^^^ ark666's ROM, WM6.5 with Sense 2.5 is here. While his WM6.5.5 with Sense 2.5 is here. I have yet to try these newly released ROMs, so I cannot comment on them.
4 & 4.1. You can't really notice differences in WM builds, especially since the chefs usually enhance it more. The EnergyROMs are highly customized and have many apps and tweaks already built-in whereas Rhodium_AF ROMs, like I said, are close to stock. The flashing process is very easy and shouldn't take that long, so you should try these ROMs.
However, now that you're asking about the EnergyROMs, you should also check out agent_47's ValkyrieROMs. These are sort of "in the middle" of the EnergyROMs and Rhodium_AF ROMs.
5b. Shazam is okay, but I really use/prefer Midomi (attached).
Hey,...
...sorry to push this thread to the top.
Just a quick question: I just got my new TP2 and saw, that on the back cover, there is no protection glass over the camera. It is just a whole. Is that normal?
I'm just wondering, because thats the first time is see this on a HTC device. I mean it's kinda unconvenient, since dust can get underneath the back cover easily.
**push**
Yes, that's normal.
