quick GPS question - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

in the "AGPS" settings tab, keeping it enabled turns on agps or just enables it ?
is their any real gps toggle (like wifi, bluetooth) or is it just used when using an app that uses it (google navigator or google maps).
so does checking the tab to enable agps actually turn it on from that point or is it just turned on when needed ?
thanks

Where dod you find that AGPS settings tab? I don't see it.

Another dreaded HTC Touch Sprint/GPS question....

HTC Vogue (6900) only shows External GPS icon in the Settings/System menu. The registry key HKLM/controlpanel/gps shows a "1" for Hide reg_dword. I changed it to "0", soft reset but no other GPS icon appears.
Is the External GPS icon the only one? I thought WM6.1 had an internal gps.
Will the phone work without a Sprint data connection if I install Garmin or Tom Tom app with maps, or will I need an 'external gps enabler' ????
I've read just about all the "GPS" threads here, and still don't understand this phone's gps capability. Getting ready to give up and just use the one in the car. I know nothing about flashing roms, upgrading radios, NFSFan or Alltel stuff. I'm just tired of paying Sprint so much money for a data connection.
Very confusing issue.

Hmmm, I have the same phone and service: You don't need any special unlockers to get GPS working in WM6.1. IF you have the software and license for a software such as Garmin, it will work. The older versions of Tomtom and Garmin don't recognize the internal GPS (Garmin has a free update on it's website, if you have an older version.), so that's where that external GPS setting comes in. You don't need to be going into the registry to do any funny business. All you need to do is:
1. Settings > Personal > Phone > Services tab > Location Setting (tap "Get Settings") > Have "ON" selected.
2. Settings > Connections > External GPS > (under Programs tab) Have COM4 selected. (Here is what i was talking about. Whatever COM port you choose, you have to go into the settings for the GPS software, and have the same COM port selected.
3. Settings > Connections > External GPS > (under Hardware tab) Have the hardware port not the same as the program port. (or just select "(None)")
4. Settings > Connections > External GPS > (under Access tab) Have "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)" checked.
5. If you download Google Maps, you should be able to test this. The latest version supports GPS. In the menu, Check "Use GPS" and it should start searching. It takes a few minutes to get satellites the first time. Being outside, under a clear sky helps, of course.
I use Garmin and no, you don't need the data connection to have the GPS working. The Telenav App by sprint doesn't store it's maps in your phone, so it needs the data connection to download maps. Softwares such as Garmin store it in the phone or in the Storage Card.(Much better, because it works even if you don't have service.) Garmin has an option of using the data connection to download weather and traffic data and such. It asks you on initial execution of the application, whether you want data connect always on, be prompted, or have it off. You won't see any type of notification or icon when your GPS is being used. All you need is the Phone, GPS software, and the maps. You technically don't even need phone service, because it has nothing to do with your phone service. Our internal GPS receivers connect to satellites free of charge. ^_^
Sprint GPS
Stick,
Thanks so much. That is the answer I was looking for regarding GPS.
So there is nothing I need to do except get one of the apps such as Garmin or TomTom with maps. This way, I do not need the data plan from Sprint (which is too costly to maintain). I have my laptop with wifi for the emails and such, but the GPS on the phone is a nice "to have" function.
Be well,

WLAN turns on automagically

Hi!
I switched off WLAN through the Comm Manager, but every once in a while it turns on automatically. I want to control this myself, so how do I turn off this behavior?

If you have an old(er) version of WMWifiRouter it's known to do this.

Click to collapse
Settings, connections, wifi (untick turn on wifi)
You now control Wifi only using comm manager.
@samsat: the Comm Manager and the Settings one aren't the same? They sure as h*ll look the same...
Well, turned it off through the settings page, now on with CM. Will try if it sticks now. Thanks!
I'm having this same problem... After I disable Wifi, it turns itself back on 5 seconds later.
Obviously some program is doing this, but I can't figure out which one it is.
I have EnergyROM Leo 21885 + 4.49.25.57 Radio, and the only other program that I have installed is AgePhone (and I experience the problem even when AgePhone is not running).
Anyone have any thoughts as to what program might be causing this behavior?
I'm running into conflicts when connected both to Wifi and 3G at the same time, AgePhone is not able to connect to my SIP server, NAT is getting blocked.
Alternatively, is there a way to disable the connection (3G & Edge) to my tmobile and just use wifi? I'd like to have the ability to quickly enable/disable the wifi and tmobile connections so that they don't run concurrently and cause problems for AgePhone.
Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 4.2.1 GPS lock unavailable!

Hi All,
My Galaxy Nexus 4.2.1 doesn't lock position with only GPS receiver and internet connection disabled.
Nexus has an internal GPS receiver, so ideally it should be able to lock position without internet connection.
I have read in many places that we need to enable "Google apps access your Location" settings but that will require an active data connection.
Think about a scenario - stuck in somewhere there is no internet connection and one wants to know the location - then Nexus wont lock position - right?
How to test that GNexus can lock position without internet connection. Tried all available "fixes" for this issue - no result.
Please help!

Cannot enable tethering through quick access

Hello everybody.
I have a strange problem regarding the Nexus 5x with wifi tethering/access point mode.
I can turn on wifi hotspot by:
settings --> more --> Tethering & portable hotspot --> Portable wifi hotspot enable the slider.
After that I can disable it with the quick access panel.
However I cannot enable it by the quick access panel. This also prevents apps like tasker to automate this setting.
I would like to have hotspot turned on when I enter my car (bluetooth connected)
I live in the netherlands and have a Vodafone account.
Many thanks for your input.
