As I know the Touch Pro 2 has a micro usb-ext connector, but I'm at work and a friend of mine has the HTC Touch. His charging device has a normal micro usb connector.
Can I use it to charge the Touch Pro 2 with it?
Yes it will charge but syncing may not
This will work fine.
..and >Stunno. Syncing will definitely not work with a charger ;o)
Thank you guys for the fast answer
And no, I don't want to synchronize with the charger
Whoops! I assumed that, like me, you were going to charge with a usb lead from your works PC
Is it me or is the touch pro 2 charging much much slower when charged via usb from the pc?
Only 1 note: It is not micro.. it's mini-usb

Yeap. Max amps from a usb pc port: 500mA. Max from the charger: 2A. the more current, the faster charging...
And as to syncing... it will definitely work too.
The ext-usb port only has additional pins to support audio.
The standard mini-usb pins are used to synchronize the device.

how? i've tried a pair of Mini-USB cables. both will charge the device but no data connection to the PC.
Rather handy info on charging - saved me a packet on having to get a new in-car charger for the phone

Sorry to hear that... I use a normal mini-usb to usb cable every day to sync my HTC Touch Diamond, which has the same extUSB port...
it is POSSIBLE that both the cables you tested are made specificly to charge devices, and dont carry data leads. other than that there is no reasonable explanation why a mini-USB wouldnt work.
Other mini-USB cables have worked fine for me on the Touch Pro2.
Try going into Settings\Connections\USB to PC. With Activesync selected, turn off the "Enable faster data synchronization" check box.

Hi all, 1st post, but I promise I have searched.
I have a SPV C500 and cant seem to get my car charger to work. I seem to recall that someone once told me that there is a difference between a charge cable and a data/sync cable.
This almost makes sense given that the phone will not charge when connected to a USB port, unless activesync is installed. What does activesync do to allow the charging to work? A charge cable, that worked with my cigarette lighter to USB would be great in the car, but it would also be useful in situations where I am at a PC without activesync installed (often at internet cafe's which prevent installing software).
Hope someone can help

this is most likely because your computer dont turn on 5volt to power on usb before devices are recognised and activesync make that happen
hmmm .... interesting
I have measured the voltage coming from my USB port with a multimeter, which is just 5V. If this is directly off the USB port, without activesync running, then the PC is supplying a constant 5V.
I have also measured the voltage from my car's cigarette lighter adaptor, guess what, also 5V.
There must be something in the phone which makes it "accept" the 5V input.
I cant figure it out tho, is it something to do with the data pins? do these need to show the phone a certain resistance or something (such as dead short) before it will allow the phone to charge?
Seems to have the USB charging disable?

I just ran across this USB Card Reader/Hub for the Samsung Tab. The device has three USB ports and a card reader. It even has a plug for a 5V power supply.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-GAL...=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item2316d2ac0e
Has anyone tried this thing? Does it perform as advertised? If it does, it may be the perfect accessory, especially when teamed with a power supply. On that subject, I wonder where one might find a compatible power supply that would provide the right amperage so it would work with the Tab.
Bob
^I would like to know also. If it works like it says, that would be the best thing ever!
I asked the company posting the device on eBay if they offered a power supply that would supply 2 amps. They said no.
Here is a question for some of the smart guys on this forum. Could the Tab be powered by a male to male USB cable plugged into the standard Samsung 110 V power plug and then in to the hub? The next question is if everything could be powered using a USB car adaptor that puts out 2 A.
Bob
Bump! Does anyone have experience with this device. If so, please post. Also, if anyone can answer the questions about the the power supply or USB charging from a car outlet, that information would be greatly appreciated.
Bob
I think you are misunderstanding the use of the power supply. I'm pretty sure the power supply doesn't charge the tab. It only powers the USB appliances (mainly for HDDs). An active USB-hub if you wish.

I am sure you are right. I wonder if the the Tab could be charged if a male to male USB cable was plugged into one of the USB ports and then to the stock Samsung plug?
I have that actually. I just have used it for an sd card though. Anyone want me to experiment something with it?

Great, you are just the guy I have been looking for. If you can come up with a male to male USB cable, plug one end into the device and the other into your Samsung charger puck. I am curious if the Tab will charge using this method.

Well, that depends on the hub. How it is designed. It may block current from flowing into the USB ports.
I have to check mine when I get home...
Mind you, USB current is limited to 0.5A and that isn't enough to charge the Tab and use it at the same time.
But, let me see if I understand what you're trying to do: Connect the 110V adapter to one of the USB ports. Power/charge the Tab through a second port.
As to your earlier question, about a vehicle equipped USB port... Same answer. It depends on how the hub is designed. Since I have Sync in my Ford I have a USB port and I can check that as well. I know the Tab works connected to it... just not a USB hub.
how's the test
so... any result from your test? can it charge the tab?

I can't find my male/male USB cable. (I live in Alabama, and that sort of thing is against the law. )
I've seen that Huawei Ascend Mate 2 can charge other phones thorugh a compatible cable. Can I find such a cable for my Samsung smartphone?
Thanks.

You should be able to use any USB cable that has micro USB tips on both ends. Look for a male-to-male micro USB cable.
Not any cable, you need to get USB OTG cable, cost a few dollars on ebay or Amazon. It has micro-usb connector on one side (which goes to your phone) and full size female usb connector on the other side to connect any device (usb stick, mouse, keyboard, ext hard drive). Just make sure your phone supports USB OTG. Typically all the latest Galaxy phones should. That cable, usb on-the-go (OTG) has two pins shorted inside and turns your phone into a host so you can connect other peripheral devices, such as the one I listed above. And while it does that, it provides 5V power through USB bus like any usb host (your laptop or PC). As a result, you can charge other phones or devices from your smartphone. Just keep in mind, it will drain your battery
This is very useful, for example, if you have Note 2 with 9600 mAh Zerolemon extended battery (in my case), and use your phone to charge other devices with extra juice
I had recently purchased the C6502. At work I do not have AC power outlet to charge the phone. So I generally used to charge my old smartphone (LG Optimus 4X HD) with a blackberry USB cable. I used to charge my old phone by connecting to the monitor's USB port using the blackberry cable. Though the phone showed as "Slow charging", it served the purpose.
But now using the same Blackberry USB cable and the same USB port, if i try to charge the C6502, it just lights up the screen and does not show any charging indication or the notification LED light.
Am I missing something here or the phone charges only with the original Sony provided USB cable?
Note: The same USB cable and the USB port work perfectly fine for other smart phones my colleagues are having like Galaxy grand, Lumia 610, HTC Desire SV etc. Of course when connected to the usb port all these phones are showing as slow charging, but they do charge slowly. But my XZL does not even charge. So I am definitely sure the cable and the port are perfectly fine.
Is there a way I can charge my XZL with the USB cable using the USB port?

Let me explain it more clearly.
At my work the USB ports on the CPU are disabled. But the monitors are having USB ports which can be connected to the CPU through another cable, so that USB devices can be connected to the monitor's USB ports insteading of leaning till the CPU under the desk. But those ports are not connected to the CPU so the ports on the monitor just act as a power source but not as data source. So we use the monitor's usb ports for charging our devices like phones, ipods etc.
As i had already told that my XZL screen lights up when connected to the port using the blackberry cable, but no indication of charging as well as no LED light. Same case with another colleague's Xperia SP.

So sony does not support "chaging only" mode using USB cable. How pathetic !!!. Supposed to be a "Smart phone" but really do not understand why cut down basic features.
Can anybody confirm if this cut down of a basic feature is a standard for Sony phones?

USB charging
I have observed two things -
1) Yes, it does not charge in some cases. I have a power bank cable, with this cable it charges for some time but then it just stops charging without any reason. If you reinsert the plug, it starts charging again.
Other times, it does not charge with USB ports, for example my car music player's USB port. But what I have noticed is, if USB connectivity mode is changed from MTP to MSC or vice-versa it works.
Also some cables do not have two spring notches, and fit quite loose. In such cases pushing cable vertically up or down gets it charging again. But this is very very rare case.
2) I was not able to charge it from front USB port of my PC, but when connected to back USB port, it was charging fine.
My conclusion is, it does not charge if charging rate is too low or mode is incorrect.
I would suggest, try with original Sony USB cable in your office and check if it works. If still it does not, change connectivity mode. Else its a cable issue(not exactly, but phone and cable have some mismatch).
PS - I had similar problem with my chinese tablet. Out of more than 5 cables, It charges with only one cable from Nokia(it does not even charge with original tab USB cable ). I think there are separate data pins and power pins. But data pins can double as power pins. I think there was some damage to the tab USB pins, because of which data pin no more works as power pin and hence it does not charge and requires cable having power pins. Can somebody throw more light on this?
Relax its just u need a pc on to charge it it happens in my case too n my phone works fy9 with any cable

Hi there,
So my original OnePlus data/charging cable is damaged and I have to put it in a certain position to get it to charge my phone. I had a spare but my friend has left it at his parents house and I don't think I'm going to get it back. I've been using the short charge cable that came with my OnePlus power bank to charge my phone.
I tried some old micro USB cables that I had lying around from older devices. They work for charging but they don't seem to let me connect my phone to my PC.
I also do not like the style of USB head that OnePlus put on their official cables, the plastic tab with the contact points does not sit firmly in the USB ports on my computer.
I want to get a couple of replacement USB cables for charging and data transfer but I don't know which cables would work with my OnePlus One. I would like to avoid an official OnePlus Micro USB cable as the USB connector is too loose.
Can anyone suggest a cable for me to get? I would like it to be able to charge at full speed and also work with USB file transfers and have a normal USB head on the cable so it sits firmly in the port.
I just don't want to order a wire and find out it doesn't work with the phone. I seem to remember my phone has always been picky with USB cables and I do have some driver issues that may be caused by the wire type.
Thanks,

Actually, yes. I've had my One for more than 2 years now and changed the cable as well. There are actually 2 cables I can recommend as of now - from Nillkin and from Aukey. Both are sturdy, solid, fast and just do their job as good as they should. Aukey, however, is much better in one aspect: it's longer. 2m vs 1.2m. Aaaaand it still charges with full 2.1A current, which, in my opinion, is pretty awesome. Both of them are also pretty cheap - you can buy them for ~ 5$ - just search for them on Aliexpress
I had good experiences with Sharkoon and LogiLink cables.
I've got the 5 pack from Anker and it's doing well. On a test it had good performance and was very cheap on Amazon.
Item model number: AK-B7103011

You should get USB cable with Micro USB
Thanks for the replies, I guess my main concern was getting a USB cable that works for data transfer. I ended up ordering a triple pack of Aukey USB's. 2 x 1m and 1 x 2m cables. The description said that they work with 2.1a chargers and USB 2.0 data transfer which is what I need.
Thank you for the suggestions !
Can you please share the link of the purchase

You can try BlitzWolf reversible micro usb cable. It's able to charge with full 2A current and most funny, it's really reversible, so it does not matter which side you connect to your phone (unlike normal micro usb connector).

Yeah, it charges quickly, and data transfer works great. I haven't benchmarked it or anything but its doing its job, and the 2m cable is great! It still charges quickly despite being longer. The micro USB head has a satisfyingly click when plugged in and the USB head is normal and works well.
