overclock not working? - HTC Excalibur

hi,
i read around and i heard people talking about overclocking.
I used to overclock my wizard with smartskey. and it would keep ur cpu overclocked even after a reboot.
I d/led Omapclock for the dash and it doesn't keep overclock settings.
am I missing some settings?
I read you guys can keep it overclock on reboot. but how?
I tried tornado, but it hate seeing it run in the background.
would smartskey work?
thanks

what rom are you using? overclock works perfect, and it keeps the settings after reboot. I won't recommend overclocking past 252mhz.

Hi,
i'm using, Excalibur_NRG_Rose_v1.4.1_LITE
i only plan to overclock it to 240, that was the safest for the wizard too.
252 works, but things get unresponsive sometimes.
I opened omapclock, and i set it at 240.
reboot, and it goes back to 183
thanks.

see, I've never used the rose rom before, I used to be a rickwyatt's v24 6.1 fan, and it sounds like you're missing the omap clockkeep.exe, that it saves the overclock settings. Let me see if I can find out, what has to be done to add this .exe to the phone, 'cause I can give you the .exe , but you need to know what to do with it, before is any good to you.

alright,
thanks for you help.

Ok , so the best thing I can do for you in such short notice, is that I checked my phone's windows directory and the omap clockkeep.exe is in there, so try it out and see if it works, if it doesn't, delete it out.
Just drop it in the windows directory, and set your omap overclock to 240mhz, and reboot and go check if it held it. Let me know, and I'll check around some more if it doesn't work.

does omapclock and keep need to be in the same folder?
looks like i already had omapclock keep in my windows folder.
and it doesn't work.
thanks

try to drop it to "windows/startUp"... Hope that work.

thanks,
I got it to overclock using smartskey,
here's the setting i used, incase anyone wants to try it.

Overclocking

I have set my Dash to 240MHz from i guess the standard 201MHz, however it doesn't seem to be any faster. I've tried multiple tasks at the same time and I just can't feel a difference in speed.
On the system info it always shows 201MHz regardless to what clock i set it. I also don't notice a difference in battery consumption.
How can i check if the Dash is indeed OCed that what I set it to?

The only way is to look at OMAPClock I do believe.

The only way I know is to go back into OMAPClock and check what setting you have it on. I don't know of a way to see the current clock settings. I can say this-- Your phone's speed greatly depends on the number of applications and programs you have running simultaneously. If you have a lot of stuff going on at once, then you may not notice the difference in speed from 201mhz because the 240mhz is absorbing all of this activity. I noticed a change in my phone's speed when I first o/ced it (significant enough for me to notice a difference), but after a while my S620 became loaded down with all kinds of programs as I began exploring the wonderful world of modding. Now it runs at a decent speed.
I keep my phone very light. Only on there what I really use. The OMAP says 240. I'll keep it at 240 for now and see what happens. If I can see reduced Battery life over the next few weeks I guess it must be working. I'm not sure if I can go 1 step higher.
My old dash burned out on a hot Florida Spring day with a (I believe 252 OC). So I'm also kinda worried about the heat (internal/external), but as far as I read everything should be just fine at 240MHz.
you can benchmark it using sktools

I have read every thread I could find on overclocking the Dash here in xda. I have T-Mobile 6.0 Standard and would like to overclock. Could some helpful person please tell me which program(s) I need to do this? I'm assuming OMAPClock (which version?) and anything else? My Dash is app unlocked already. Thanks in advance!
wm6.1 coming with a lot of feature inside how omapclock, install it.

I'm not quite ready to upgrade to WM 6.1 with some problems I've read about. I did, though, download OMAPCLock and it works great! The small problem is that it is buried in File Explorer, and I would like a shortcut on the Start Menu. Not being a programmer (like most of you), I don't know what "arguments, file paths, etc." are. I can't copy and paste to Windows\Start Menu cuz it won't let me. Is there another way without getting Total Commander cuz I don't really want to keep adding programs to my Dash that aren't absolutely necessary?
Never mind. The Surreal Networks OMAPCLock app gives me the Start Menu shortcut and Homescreen Icon. The first OMAP program I dl'd was from freeware.com and will not delete. It says there is a sharing violation. Anyone know how I can get it off my phone?

[BOOST] Give your Desire a REAL boost! [Root required] [Batterylife + performance]

This tutorial has been written for the XPERIA X10. But it should also work on other devices. Official thread can be found here. Please report if this works on your HTC Desire. Many thanks. Before even trying this, make a Back-up of your current ROM!

[Compatible with 2.1, 2.2.1 and 2.3.x]
[Warning, these apps are NOT paid! Only setCPU is paid, you can get it from the Android Market!]
-- You need to root your Desire to use these apps! --
[/
If these simple Android Market apps, cause any problems on your device it means you've got something unstable installed on your device! I never had problems with Autokiller, setCPU and AutoRun Manager on any ROM.
Hey,
In this thread I will show you how to get a REAL boost on your HTC Desire! This method could also improve performance and battery life on any other handset. This is compatible on Android 2.1, 2.2.1 and 2.3.x. (This way of boosting performance is without Systcl config! I suggest you to uninstall Systcl config, since it doesn't improve anything for me (and maybe for more persons here).
This method made me lose 0-2% in 9 hours on WolfBreak his Cyanogenmod 6.1.3 and ALL 2.1 ROMS! These simple apps, did improve my performance and battery life!
Lets get to the point
Download this and this package, put in on your phone and install them!
Lets config it now
Open Autokiller.
Go to the tab Memory limits.
Now put these configuration into the 3 boxes. (If these values cause problems you can better uninstall AutoKiller. Lower values are almost android default )
Hidden app: 150
Content provider: 160
Empty app: 170
Now press on Apply.
(Don't put these values listed above higer. If you do your device can start to malfunction)
Now press on the Menu button on your Device and tap on Settings. Now make sure Apply settings on boot is turned on! After turning it on, press on Advanced system tweaks. Now make sure that Battery and Memory management are turned on!
Exit Auto Killer by pressing the menu button and reboot your device.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now open Autorun Manager.
Now make sure every service that is listed in the tab Basic you don't need is turned off! Make sure you only turn off things in the tab Basic! After doing that, exit Autorun Manager with the Menu button and reboot your device.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't have to buy setCPU. In this way it will only save some battery when your screen is turned off. It's to you to buy it if you want to save a little bit of battery. This configuration only effects you device when your screen is turned off. Don't expect with this setCPU very big changes!
The settings here below won't cause any lag when coming from sleep (atleast for me). Even with heavy apps.
[To get the XDA-free version of setCPU take a look at this post. Credits for telling this are going to DooMLoRD]
This step has a payed app. You can buy it from the Android Market. The app is called ''setCPU''.
Buy setCPU from the Android Market. Now open it and do the following:
Tap on Show Other Frequency Sets and tap on the list on Nexus One/Snapdragon [QSD8x50]. Put
Now press left in the corner on the tab Main. Put in the scaling bar the maximal frequency on 998MHz. Now put the minimal frequency on 245MHz.
Now press on Scaling and choose out of the list Ondemand, after pressing on Ondemand turn ''Set on Boot'' on.
Now press on the tab that you can find next to Main. It's called Profiles. Make sure that ''Enable'' turned one and Notifications turned off. Then press on Add Profile. In the Edit Profile window you have to put the following settings:
Profile: Screen Off
Max: 384MHz (Don't put it lower or it can cause malfunctioning!)
Min: 245 MHz
Scaling: powersave
Priority: 100 (High)
Then press Save.
Then reboot your device and enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your Desire is now fully optimized with a few simple apps! Not only the battery but also the performance! And... Don't forget to press the ''Thanks'' button instead of saying Thanks in this thread
Have fun!
Regards,
PlayGunsta

Works for the x10 (Official thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040497)
There is not much diffrence between these two devices. And all apps are also downloadable in the android market. So it couldn't (shouldn't) cause any problems at all.
i thought those on CM7 cannot use setcpu and set power profiles.

okay so what should i thick? it says the following in the basic tab:
- Adfree
- Download Manager
- Java-Box
- Netcounter (app to check my data in MB^^, guess i dont need to disable it)
- Pingchat
- SetCPU
- SMS Backup & Restore (to backup my sms for another rom)
- Tweetcaster Premium
- Whatsapp
So please tell me whats safe ?
Bedankt!
EDIT: and i do not have "powersave" governor in the screen of profile only ondemand, userspace, and performance..
I guess you can disable these ones without problem:
- Adfree
- Download Manager
- Java-Box
- SMS Backup & Restore (to backup my sms for another rom)
- Tweetcaster Premium

[Q] Setting CPU governor to stop music clicking?

I have a small question regarding setting a CPU Governor. I searched for a while but couldn't find any answer.
I am running AcesMod007-Lite, which has the cpu governor set to smartass. It seems to be okay, but especially when playing music it has some trouble, because it is trying to save too much battery. The music has a small click now and then. And i'm hoping changing the governor will help (if it won't please say so, then I can stop trying ).
So I want to change it to Interactive. This should be possible according to the ROM description (- Available Freqs: CPU interactive, smartass, powersave, ondemand, performance - by snq-)
What I tried to change it:
In recovery (after mounting system):
adb shell echo "interactive" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
(Here I got an error: The system can't find the specified path)
adb echo "interactive" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
(Same error)
adb pull /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor G:\
(This wrote a file with userspace? I changed it to interactive, then pushed it)
adb push G:\scaling_governor /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/
(Upon reboot I checked it, and it was set back to smartass)
When the phone was on:
I tried thesame as in recovery, and got the same errors, only when using adb pull, the content of the file was "smartass".
Does anybody have an idea how to make this work?
I don't have Ace on my phone at the minute, but from what I remember I'm pretty sure there's a scaling script in the system/etc/init.d folder. Use root explorer or similar and long press, open with text editor, then change smartass to the governor you want.
Reboot the phone and it should now be using the one you selected, I hope
Use ondemand governor. Also had problems with music playing with smartass governor in other roms. After switching to ondemand they never occurred again.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
@mick
Thanks! You were right. Now it automatically switches to ondemand (thanks MatDrOiD).
But for some reason the music still clicks . Should I increase the processor max freq for screen off, or does anybody know any other solutions?
I dont really know any other solution other than to ask, did you change both governors, screen on and screen off?
btw the screen off I use "min 128000" and "max 384000"
yes, try upping the max til the clicking stops
Yes I did changed them both.
My frequencies are for screenoff (in that same file):
SLEEP_GOVERNOR_FREQUENCY_MIN="245000"
SLEEP_GOVERNOR_FREQUENCY_MAX="384000"
So I think that should be okay.
Somewhere I read that it was an possible issue with every Sense HD ROM, because there was an error in the HTC code. Then it would be unsolvable.
I am going to try setting the min to 128, maybe that magically helps.

I use insertcoin at the moment and don't notice it.
It might not be the cpu settings, I don't know what else is tweaked in the rom, but if there are other things then it could possibly be that, memory etc.
I'm pretty sure I read in the thread when I used Aces that installing setcpu would disable the scaling script. Maybe install it and see if your problem clears, nothing to lose
It has been solved! I now use a different build.prop, which seems optimized in some way.
The clicking is gone, and the entire phone seems more responsive .
Thanks for the great help!

[Q] Screen showing up late on new call

I have this strange problem on cm7.2 that on a receiving a new call my willy's screen shows up pretty late to answer that call, after 4 to 5 rings. its only happening in ring style lockscreen. If I change it to sliding tab then it works ok. I have set the lowest value of CPU at 352 MHz. Anyone else with this problem?

usually this is nothing else than good old lag - just make sure that there aren't too many background processes running. I'm using Autostarts to control which apps are allowed to start in certain conditions plus Autokiller Memory Optimizer to set the minfree values (when the system will free up memory) plus - probably most helpful - setCPU. While the CM7 OC settings are already doing a good job to set min and max frequency and governor you can't set the value for screen off state explicitely...

oh, for me 264MHz works (I had problems with 176 which I used before) - but like I said: many factors are involved here. It usually takes some trial and error to find your perfect settings.
