Hi all I'm fairly new to these forums, although I have been watching from afar for quite some while now!
I have been trying out custom roms and various kernels and was wondering how do I go about overclocking my device? Only reason I am asking is because I was checking out benckmark results for other devices and noticed some can be particularly high.
Any insight would be most appreciated!
I wouldnt try any overclocking on the HOX because of the heat issues. A more safe and stable way of doing it is changing the govenor of the kernel or forcing cores online. I think you can use core control (in the apps and themes section) to change core behaviour and system tuner to change govenor.

I have now installed core control. Got to admit it is nice having the option to save a bit more power. How much as an estimate do each of cores use anyway just out of interest?

you can download an app called tegrastats to find out more but all you should know is this. once you activate the corecontrol and depending what app you use you should be fine. if i was you i would also use no-frills cpu app. that way you can underclock and would save you more juice

Fantastic! Many thanks for the advice. I have now installed no-frills cpu, and started to tinker around with the settings. Could I ask as I am still fairly new to some of this, when I first went on to the settings both maximum and minimum were set to 1.5 GHz (Not sure if it was just saying this on the app or not or if these are the actual settings) but I would guess this would use a lot more power am I right?

yes you are right. put the min frequency to say 200 or 300 mhz and then press apply on boot and then reboot and you should be fine
Hello,
I am really sorry, my English is very poor, so my girlfriend and google translator help me translate... I am a beginner on this site.
So I have ROM RC02, but I can`t change max procesor and CPU governor either... Whenever I press changing CPU and max, it brings me back in original position. Could you please help me?
Try setcpu app
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
Ok, I'm in SetCPU or Voltage Control in the changes there and I will remain so, but the phone settings in Perfomance I still have the same values. So now I do not know that are set ... :/
maybe u can try kernel tuner app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rs.pedjaapps.KernelTuner&feature=search_result
it can control both of the cpu0 and cpu1.
cpu0 work ok and value doesn't change after i set.
but for cpu1 sometime it back to 1134mhz when i set to max value. but i just ignore it as it most of the time set at max value. seem like it can automatically adjust itself.
and i suggest PerfMon app to monitor your cpu. useful app for me.:good:

Hey Guyzzz..!!
We all having a issue in STOCK ROM to Underclock or Overclock the cores using SetCPU, as the changes won't apply to all cores. YES!!!, Kernel didn't support that feature. But here is a simple way to overcome this problem and hope you'll like this cool feature tooo...
DON'T TURN ON ECOMODE AS IT MESS UP WITH SETCPU SETTINGS
Steps:
Turn off ECOMODE
Install SetCPU app from Playstore
Open app & Set Max freq to 594 and Min freq to 384 in Main tab and Click Set on boot
Customize profiles according to your wish (For Games give max freq as 1512ghz ...etc...)
Open RootExplorer
Copy the file /system/etc/thermald-8064.conf to sdcard (Backup the file)
Open the file thermald-8064.conf from /system/etc in text editor
Scroll down and change the values 1512000 &1188000 to 594000 (Refer Screenshot to change the settings)
Change the GPU values to 400000 (Refer same screenshot)
Save and exit
Change permission to rw--r--r--
Restart
To confirm whether these settings working properly, Download chainfire's Perfromance Monitor app
Now if you change freq in Setcpu, it'll be applied to all cores....:good::good:
**594000 is the recommended value and do not use 384000 or 486000 which slows down the boot of mobile**
If this thread is Useful, Pls Rate as 5Star and Hit Thanks too...
Thanx hassan, I will give it a go on the weekend and report back

I did exactly step by step as you provided. Nevertheless I did not manage to apply the set speed restrictions to all the 4 cores, but only to one. Namely using the Performance Monitor app, the "cpu0" indeed did not cross 594, but "cpu1", "cpu2" and "cpu3" went till 1512. So what could be the case?
Best regards

Have yu given the proper permission to the file in /system/etc...?? Also dont turn on eco mode it wont overwrite the setcpu settings.... For me everything is wrking cool... Games i use 1512mhz, for fb, messengr i clocked to 1026, for watsapp 810,...Till now everything is goin gud...aftr edited the file yu need to reboot to apply the settings...

I did not have to give the proper permissions, as they were already before and after editing rw-r-r. Also the ECO mode was turned off already weeks ago. After editing I rebooted the phone as well...Do not understand why it´s not working for me?
Locked bootloader should not affect this. Right?

Yep. I did everything as provided in your screenshot, including changed all the "thresholds" and "thresholds_clr" values to the ones you prescribed.
One thing I presumably did not do was setting up profiles in SetCPU. I just set the max and min frequencies, after what happened that only one core managed to stay within the limitations, other 3 did what they wanted

Erm...What do you mean with this?
I just tried once more. Did everything step by step. The result is the same - PerMon shows "cpu0" as I set in SetCPU 384-594, other three cores are running up to 1512 :silly:
---------- Post added at 11:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:34 AM ----------
I do not know what I just did, but I managed to get it work
Thanks!

However, while messing around with the SetCPU and the 8064.conf file, I noticed the following. Namely that the SetCPU could handle the 4 cores simultaneously with the stock conf file as well, but only then when you upgrade the max speed up, not down. For example with the stock conf file I set the min freq in SetCPU 384 and max 594, rebooted and then PerMon showed that none of the 4 cores exceeded 594. Then for example I set the max to 1350 and again none of the 4 cores exceeded 1350. But then when I lowered the max to 1026, then only the 1st core named in PerMon "cpu0" did not exceed the limit while the rest 3 cores went up to the last max speed (i.e to 1350). If I then rebooted, then again all the 4 cores adhered to the latest min/max frequencies, which in case of my example was min 384 and max 1026, which were the latest frequencies I set in SetCPU.
I hope my explanation is clear enough.

Ya yu are absolutely ryt... It doesn't apply the settings to all core when changing the freq in main tab... But if yu create profile for the apps with max and min freq that tym it works flawlessly....!!

With the Setcpu app I set up a profile to help keep my phone a bit more cool (Arizona heat outside don't help -.-) I set it that above 60c change the governor to conservative and pull back 1ghz (from 2.4ghz) but when I see it go active it looks like it only applys it to the first core (Core:0) and not the others I wanted to ask is this normal or how can I get it to change the profile on all cores when it gets hot.
BTW I'm using Slimkat ROM and Temsek 3.60 kernal and using the Developer options to see temp and core activity.
I touched some no frills cpu control settings and now my benchmark results are about 19000-22000 and it used to be like 24000 i tried changing the rom and all that stuff if someone can give me the stock governator and all frequencys and that stuff it would be helpful.. Thanks i need help i dont know what to do
Now i cant do any better than 23000

Firstly, I assume by the size score that you are using Antutututu. If so then you always get variance in the scores, and yes it can be 4k difference.
Next, I'm gonna bet that you are seeing thermal throttling, where the device is turning off 2 of the cores due to heat.
I've only noticed this behaviour recently myself. It's a real pain in the arse. I've downloaded trinity kernel app to get around the problem. In his app you can turn off thermal throttling and force the two other Cores to stay on.
This isn't a permanent fix though as the settings don't want to stick for some reason that is beyond me.
Next, is there no reset to default in no frills cpu app ?
Or you can uninstall no frills and make sure you delete any folders off your sd card, then either reflash your rom or you could even flash AICP kernel.
This should get you back to default.
Finally if you still think it's your settings, you could tell us all the settings you have changed and between the guys on the forum we could tell you what to change back to.
All the best rich
**just had a quick look at no frills on play Store. Looks like there's not loads to alter.
I like interactive governer and row scheduler (as we can't get row I use deadline.)
Min frequency wants to be at 384 and max at 1728.
That's the basics.
