When I first got my TP2 the HTC Touch Input keyboard would always pop up. Something happened over the weekend and now I can't switch the input method back to "Touch Input".
No matter how many times I select touch input and restart it defaults automatically back to "keyboard" input.
Any suggestions?
anybody? This is really irritating....

Hi all,
I apologise if this is not the right place to pose this question, but I just got a Touch HD on an Orange contract a couple of days ago, and I can't seem to be able to change the text entry method on my handset. It always stays as 'Phone Keypad', no matter which method I select, from the several methods listed: Block Recognizer, Compact QWERTY, Full QWERTY, Keyboard, etc. It's the same whether I try to make the selection by pressing the "OPTIONS" button on the phone keypad, or whether I go through Start->Settings->Input
All the software/hardware configuration on my handset is exactly as it was when I received it from Orange, so far I haven't even installed a single new program.
Any help? TIA
Hi.
Can't offer any advice as such, but can tell you that I got my HD from Orange just over a week ago, and I can change the keyboard without any problems.
I originally had a Touch Diamond, so I knew how I wanted it set up. I just brought up the menu from the keyboard at the bottom of the screen when it first popped up and did it from there.
Sorry I can't be any help, other than to tell you that you should be able to do it!
Good luck mate.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed Gyrator and everything started to work.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed HD Tweak and Gyrator and everything started to work. I have no idea how it worked though.
I got this phone yesterday, and I too was confused as to how I selected the different input method. Then I worked it out
It must be a bug with their firmware. You have to HOLD DOWN the centre button, keep your finger pressed and slide it up the screen to select the preferred input method. I think I did this when I was in the Compose SMS screen.
Since then, mine's stayed as I selected it - on Full QWERTY.
Hope this helps!

Same happened with mine. If you click on the options then you cant change it, however if you click on the box in the middle of the screen at the bottom, you can change them.. Bizarre!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. I've got it working for me too: by pressing the 4x4 grid-like icon at the bottom centre of the screen to bring up the keyboard, and then pressing the small upward-pointing arrowhead that brings up keyboard options. I guess that's what ultrazonixe probably means... although I couldn't get it work by sliding my finger upwards off the centre button as langauld suggested (except if incidently I did it from the arrowhead icon).
Thanks for the help!
Yes this is quite tricky till you get the idea.
Press the bottom middle button (icon of keypad) to get the keypad up, if its not already up.
Then the bottom icon changes and adds a small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon. (nothing to do with the four arrows just below the keypad)
you have to press this small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon and a menu pops labled "touch input settings".
its not the same one that comes up when you press the options tab which does not work.
Press the right choice eg full qwerty or whatever, and hey presto the keypad changes instantly.
same here
Yes I could change it .. via selecting the arrow next to the mini keyboard on the bottom ... but it used to reset it self every time I starsted the phone...
Now I have TouchPal.. I have never looked back.
is there a t9 phone keypad keyboard for the touch pro 2?
like a regular phone with ABC DEF GHI JKL
and so forth..
i had a g1 and a mytouch 3g and i managed to get one off these forums..
annyoonne???
Yes there is.. While in the text box (with the keyboard closed), on the bottom for the screen shows the virtual keyboard soft key.. click it, and then on the right of the kb soft key is a arrow pointed up.. its a small area, so use your nail or the stylus.. then it'll give some input options.. select the Phone Keypad.. and voila
thanks
that helped a lot
HELP everyone! I'm having a problem with my TP2. Whenever I slide open the keyboard, the screen goes blank. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks.
Perhaps the way you hold the TP2 while you are opening it is causing you to press the power button?
I had the opposite problem, sliding my keyboard shut would turn off the screen. Eventually sliding the keyboard shut would randomly reset my phone. Figuring it was a software conflict or registry mess up, I did a hard reset. The problem still continued, so I had to do a warranty exchange. So far so good on my refurbished phone.
today my htc desire has started acting strange, wen trying to type anything in the keyboard (internet search, email or txt msg) no matter what button i press only the ' button types
when i turn it landscape the keyboard works fine, can anyone help??
thanks in advance
phew, well went into settings and reset calibration on keyboard, now working ok
Hey,
I've come across the same bug as everyone else - where Swype doesn't work properly (keyboard works, but you can slide the keys around) and you have to uninstall it and reinstall. So I've followed that and it worked fine until I rebooted where I got the same problem again! I've since reinstalled it three-four times and continuously have the same problem.
I've also noticed that the phone is continuously awake when Swype works correctly, but when it isn't working 100% (i.e. can't slide the keys around) it can correctly go to sleep and lock.
Anyone else come across this or know a fix?
Did they not release a new version for 2.2?
Go to the Swype site and re request the email with the link to the installer is sent to you again.

This worked for me with Swype
On a text-input screen, long hold and select a keyboard. Input a no. of letters and then long hold again, and now select Swype as text input method. Job is oxo.
Hi, I do get the same situation, that after rebooting or (I suspect) even when mounting the usb sdcard, I need to switch to another keyboard and back. Might have something to do with A2SD though ?
and yes, sometimes swype goes crazy and starts messing with the touchscreen multitouch badly.

Don't even have to type anything. If swype isn't "swyping" follow the following steps:
1) Long press on the text input box
2) Select a keyboard other than SWYPE
3) Long press on input box again
4) Reselect SWYPE
