Hey,
I've come across the same bug as everyone else - where Swype doesn't work properly (keyboard works, but you can slide the keys around) and you have to uninstall it and reinstall. So I've followed that and it worked fine until I rebooted where I got the same problem again! I've since reinstalled it three-four times and continuously have the same problem.
I've also noticed that the phone is continuously awake when Swype works correctly, but when it isn't working 100% (i.e. can't slide the keys around) it can correctly go to sleep and lock.
Anyone else come across this or know a fix?
Did they not release a new version for 2.2?
Go to the Swype site and re request the email with the link to the installer is sent to you again.

This worked for me with Swype
On a text-input screen, long hold and select a keyboard. Input a no. of letters and then long hold again, and now select Swype as text input method. Job is oxo.
Hi, I do get the same situation, that after rebooting or (I suspect) even when mounting the usb sdcard, I need to switch to another keyboard and back. Might have something to do with A2SD though ?
and yes, sometimes swype goes crazy and starts messing with the touchscreen multitouch badly.

Don't even have to type anything. If swype isn't "swyping" follow the following steps:
1) Long press on the text input box
2) Select a keyboard other than SWYPE
3) Long press on input box again
4) Reselect SWYPE

Hi all,
I apologise if this is not the right place to pose this question, but I just got a Touch HD on an Orange contract a couple of days ago, and I can't seem to be able to change the text entry method on my handset. It always stays as 'Phone Keypad', no matter which method I select, from the several methods listed: Block Recognizer, Compact QWERTY, Full QWERTY, Keyboard, etc. It's the same whether I try to make the selection by pressing the "OPTIONS" button on the phone keypad, or whether I go through Start->Settings->Input
All the software/hardware configuration on my handset is exactly as it was when I received it from Orange, so far I haven't even installed a single new program.
Any help? TIA
Hi.
Can't offer any advice as such, but can tell you that I got my HD from Orange just over a week ago, and I can change the keyboard without any problems.
I originally had a Touch Diamond, so I knew how I wanted it set up. I just brought up the menu from the keyboard at the bottom of the screen when it first popped up and did it from there.
Sorry I can't be any help, other than to tell you that you should be able to do it!
Good luck mate.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed Gyrator and everything started to work.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed HD Tweak and Gyrator and everything started to work. I have no idea how it worked though.
I got this phone yesterday, and I too was confused as to how I selected the different input method. Then I worked it out
It must be a bug with their firmware. You have to HOLD DOWN the centre button, keep your finger pressed and slide it up the screen to select the preferred input method. I think I did this when I was in the Compose SMS screen.
Since then, mine's stayed as I selected it - on Full QWERTY.
Hope this helps!

Same happened with mine. If you click on the options then you cant change it, however if you click on the box in the middle of the screen at the bottom, you can change them.. Bizarre!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. I've got it working for me too: by pressing the 4x4 grid-like icon at the bottom centre of the screen to bring up the keyboard, and then pressing the small upward-pointing arrowhead that brings up keyboard options. I guess that's what ultrazonixe probably means... although I couldn't get it work by sliding my finger upwards off the centre button as langauld suggested (except if incidently I did it from the arrowhead icon).
Thanks for the help!
Yes this is quite tricky till you get the idea.
Press the bottom middle button (icon of keypad) to get the keypad up, if its not already up.
Then the bottom icon changes and adds a small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon. (nothing to do with the four arrows just below the keypad)
you have to press this small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon and a menu pops labled "touch input settings".
its not the same one that comes up when you press the options tab which does not work.
Press the right choice eg full qwerty or whatever, and hey presto the keypad changes instantly.
same here
Yes I could change it .. via selecting the arrow next to the mini keyboard on the bottom ... but it used to reset it self every time I starsted the phone...
Now I have TouchPal.. I have never looked back.
when I enter words in non-XT9 mode, I have to wait some time when entering letters on the same key. The cursor just takes 1 full second to jump forward, otherwise I would alter the already typed letter. Its annoying.
I take it you want to lower the waiting time when holding down a button until the alternatives pop up. It is a bit difficult to understand though.
I personally prefer the htc ime mod keyboard found on this forum, which have several very useful modification options. You also have the ability to set the delay you are talking about
link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663608&highlight=ime_mod
f.e. I use the phone keyboard with 3 letters on one field. Now typing "abc" i have to wait 1 sec. after the "a"until the cursor moves on. If sooner, the letter gets still modified.
The detection that I am done with one letter is just too slow
I think he is referring to the phone keypad or compact qwerty keyboard.
If you want to type ace on the keypad you have press 2 once, wait 1 second, press 2 three times, and then 3 two times.
The "wait one second" part is the problem, and if you don't wait you would end up with à or something, because it wouldn't recognise the c as the new letter.
How to help this? I only know you can move to the right(with the trackball) but that isn't much faster.

ahh i see. Just tried those keyboards for the first time never been needing them. But that is probarbly not as easy to fix.
Swype had been working for me for a long time. Now, when I type the keys get pressed and the screen vibrates, but no text is inputed. If i restart the phone, it will work for like half a sentence and then stop again. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
does it work if you just press the letters, one by one? also does it not input text when you try and swype?
if these are true, your swype is expired.
expired, is there a way to fix?
Was thinking of ordering one, curious how unlocking the Xoom worked with the keyboard. Thanks!
I just checked and no, you cannot unlock with the keyboard. You can switch the screen on duration to fit your needs.

Actually, yes you can. if you have a keyboard with the "menu" key (usually on the right side of the keyboard near the Ctrl+Alt keys) it will work. I tried it last night and from sleep, one press takes to the unlock screen, one more unlocks the Xoom. Even without the Motorola Android specific keyboard, I found a lot of amazing shortcuts on a normal keyboard, do a google search, there are a lot, from opening Gmail/the browser to composing e-mails, etc. Just typing on the home screen brings up the search, which is great, and you can navigate most things, including going between home screens with the arrow keys. It convinced me that using the Xoom as a mini laptop replacement is relatively possible.
Hmmm, I tried every key on the moto keyboard and it will not wake it. Interesting that a generic keyboard would have that function.
I really do like the official keyboard however, I wish there was some way to map some of the keys. Its not really optimized for 3.0. Some of they keys do nothing and I haven't found a way to access the app drawer. A bit disappointing.
I think you modify the keylayout file so the button you want to wake has the "WAKE" attribute.
any idea on how to modify the keylayout on the motorola BT keyboard?
Half-way there
Actually, you can bypass the lock screen by hitting the "settings" button (or whatever it is called) 2 keys to the right from your spacebar on the Moto keyboard. However, I still can't get it to actually wake via a keypress.
Edit the /system/usr/keylayout/Vendor_22b8_Product_093d.kl file, assuming you are rooted.
On line 99, add the word WAKE beside MENU like this:
key 125 MENU WAKE
Save it and reboot. Be sure to make a backup of this file first in case you have any issues. Press Menu button once to bring it out of sleep and a second time to unlock it.
Thanks. I'm actually not rooted. Maybe I'll give that a try as well...
this worked perfectly! thanks very much
I have gotten my Xoom to wake up by pressing and holding the power button on the keyboard. It doesnt always work. It seems to depend of if the keyboard is awake itself. I have gotten them apps menu to open using the keyboard as well - its not an easy task. It depends on your ability to navigate to the top line on the home screen. Pressing enter will allow you to see if you have selected the top line (the top line is the row with the apps button, text and voice search, and the plus button). I can press alt+tab to select row, and then can cycle through the 4 options using tab. It is really hard to know which option you are on since it does not highlight as you cycle through. You simply press enter when you think you have it right. I think its much easier to just start typing the name of the app you wish to use and allow the xoom to search for it.

Is there any way to find out what file will be used for a keyboard? I bought a generic BT keyboard from eBay that has lots of Apple-specific keys. I wanted to remap them to take advantage of Android commands. I got the scancodes for each key and modified the Generic.kl file. In this file, however, it recommends to create a separate file for each device but I have no idea how I would make HC aware to use the specific file. Any ideas?
Sometimes this has happened to me and I was wondering on how to fix it and if anyone else has had this issue. Recently when I am in an app and I try to use my Hard keyboard if I press any of these keys it launches an app
(e - email
l - calender
p - don't recall.
g - gmail)
Anyone else see this ever. Usually I just use the onscreen keyboard when this happens and later it works again. This happened to me in the facebook app and also in dolphin browser.

Check Applications --> Quick Launch and see if you have any keys assigned to those apps.
It's my quick launch I think my search key was acting like it was pressed even though it wasn't. Thank you. Most have been stuck. Thank you.
It happens when you press the app key once by accident on the top left of the keyboard. Press it again and it turns off the shortcuts.
The app key? Which one is that? This happens to me a lot and I just mash on the keyboard until it goes away. I also am having problems with the keyboard not working at all. Sometimes I open the phone up and the whole keyboard stops working and I have to reboot the phone.
Also once I was on Dolphin browser and I was logging into Google plus and my numbers were acting funny. I could not press the ALT button to activate the numbers I had to hold the ALT then press the numbers. I thought that was weird.

Do you know any way to disable Quick Launch? Or maybe disabling all the pre-assigned things? --Do Not Want--
Thanks

Long press on the shortcut and it should give you an option to clear it.

The default shortcuts are the search button plus a letter. It happened to me once, and after pushing the search button on the top right of my keyboard a few times, everything started working fine again. Hope that helps.

Keyboard not working...at all
Hey all
CM11, official with apps installed the Captivate Glide physical keyboard is hit or miss. Since the physical keyboard is the WHOLE REASON to try to modify this older phone, its functionality is important. Physical keyboard ALT commands (#'s etc) do not work in any application. The letter keys works...sometimes. I have used default keyboard settings and have no idea whehter there is a fix on the main CM11 thread.
Many thansk!:good:
Alt is a non stick key

Well the thing is alt in cm11 is not a sticky key but its non stick . What i mean by that is that if you wanna type '1'. Keep 'ALT' pressed and hit the number '1' in blue on the keyboard. the alt key dosent seem to stick for some reason.
this is actually cause of the google ime treating our physical qwerty as a desktop keyboard i think where alt is also non stick.

"Alt" doesn't work at all -- even if held during typing. I will keep searching for keyboard fixes I guess. Since the keyboard is 100% of the reason to use the Captivate Glide, it's utility is a major issue. Many thanks for your reply!
