when I enter words in non-XT9 mode, I have to wait some time when entering letters on the same key. The cursor just takes 1 full second to jump forward, otherwise I would alter the already typed letter. Its annoying.
I take it you want to lower the waiting time when holding down a button until the alternatives pop up. It is a bit difficult to understand though.
I personally prefer the htc ime mod keyboard found on this forum, which have several very useful modification options. You also have the ability to set the delay you are talking about

f.e. I use the phone keyboard with 3 letters on one field. Now typing "abc" i have to wait 1 sec. after the "a"until the cursor moves on. If sooner, the letter gets still modified.
The detection that I am done with one letter is just too slow
I think he is referring to the phone keypad or compact qwerty keyboard.
If you want to type ace on the keypad you have press 2 once, wait 1 second, press 2 three times, and then 3 two times.
The "wait one second" part is the problem, and if you don't wait you would end up with à or something, because it wouldn't recognise the c as the new letter.
How to help this? I only know you can move to the right(with the trackball) but that isn't much faster.

ahh i see. Just tried those keyboards for the first time never been needing them. But that is probarbly not as easy to fix.

hi guys , i know this might seem a strange question but like most my stylus is loose in the holder and i sometimes need to use the keyboard to do most things on the unit and i cant find anywhere that activates the start option on the screen. I have done it by accident once but nothing since. i have checked the manual and it mentions it no where all operations seem to be around the stylus?
does anyone know what key combination it is ?
I have a 02 phone and unlike tmobile which has a one of the 4 buttons on front setup to do this as one of the defaults.
cheers in advance
It should be ctrl+escape on a full keyboard. It might also be enabled by the windows or context menu keys, not sure what your keyboard looks like.
You can use my VJKeypress to get this as well. I think it's keycode 91, not sure, check my website.

Why not assign one of the hardware buttons to do this, each one can have a duel function assigned either a tap or hold, according to the phone, in reality this doesn't work (unless anyone knows different - latest O2 ROM - not messed around with), whatever you set for a tap is also carried accross to the hold function, go to settings and locate the power buttons icon select it, then select the button you want (ok for example) then assign the <Start Menu> from the drop down box, press OK, the device might want a soft reset (mine did when I just tried this), when it comes back up hit the assigned button, and use the four way thumb control to navigate through the menus, it saves sliding out the keyboard and it becoming loose - Mike
cheers for this when i tried to reassign buttons before like the camera it wouldnt let me change them ..i hate the camera button getting accidently caught same as the record one as well.
cheers for the advance will do that would just like to know for my own peace of mind as well how to use the keyboard to do it, it should be possible.
Hi all,
I apologise if this is not the right place to pose this question, but I just got a Touch HD on an Orange contract a couple of days ago, and I can't seem to be able to change the text entry method on my handset. It always stays as 'Phone Keypad', no matter which method I select, from the several methods listed: Block Recognizer, Compact QWERTY, Full QWERTY, Keyboard, etc. It's the same whether I try to make the selection by pressing the "OPTIONS" button on the phone keypad, or whether I go through Start->Settings->Input
All the software/hardware configuration on my handset is exactly as it was when I received it from Orange, so far I haven't even installed a single new program.
Any help? TIA
Hi.
Can't offer any advice as such, but can tell you that I got my HD from Orange just over a week ago, and I can change the keyboard without any problems.
I originally had a Touch Diamond, so I knew how I wanted it set up. I just brought up the menu from the keyboard at the bottom of the screen when it first popped up and did it from there.
Sorry I can't be any help, other than to tell you that you should be able to do it!
Good luck mate.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed Gyrator and everything started to work.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed HD Tweak and Gyrator and everything started to work. I have no idea how it worked though.
I got this phone yesterday, and I too was confused as to how I selected the different input method. Then I worked it out
It must be a bug with their firmware. You have to HOLD DOWN the centre button, keep your finger pressed and slide it up the screen to select the preferred input method. I think I did this when I was in the Compose SMS screen.
Since then, mine's stayed as I selected it - on Full QWERTY.
Hope this helps!

Same happened with mine. If you click on the options then you cant change it, however if you click on the box in the middle of the screen at the bottom, you can change them.. Bizarre!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. I've got it working for me too: by pressing the 4x4 grid-like icon at the bottom centre of the screen to bring up the keyboard, and then pressing the small upward-pointing arrowhead that brings up keyboard options. I guess that's what ultrazonixe probably means... although I couldn't get it work by sliding my finger upwards off the centre button as langauld suggested (except if incidently I did it from the arrowhead icon).
Thanks for the help!
Yes this is quite tricky till you get the idea.
Press the bottom middle button (icon of keypad) to get the keypad up, if its not already up.
Then the bottom icon changes and adds a small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon. (nothing to do with the four arrows just below the keypad)
you have to press this small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon and a menu pops labled "touch input settings".
its not the same one that comes up when you press the options tab which does not work.
Press the right choice eg full qwerty or whatever, and hey presto the keypad changes instantly.
same here
Yes I could change it .. via selecting the arrow next to the mini keyboard on the bottom ... but it used to reset it self every time I starsted the phone...
Now I have TouchPal.. I have never looked back.
hi,
since i've put the brand new latest ROM from htc.com on my htc touch pro 2... text messaging is a real issue...
the problem is:
i get a text, so i press the "text" icon in the bottom menu.
it shows the last one i allready read... so i have to move up by stroking the screen with my finger.
i get to see the new message.
when i press "reply" in the menu, i automaticly open the keyboard (it's a habbit).
first i have to wait till the screen tilted and the phone is done thinking.
then i just type and press "send".
i close the keyboard and have to wait for several seconds before the screen changes from landscape mode to portrait mode.
after waiting for a while i press the "home" button, and again i'm waiting for several seconds before i get to see my home screen.
my phone acts as if i'm trying to run windows 7 on a 386 dx4 that's over 15 years old (if you know what i mean).
it's really annoying because it takes me very long to read, type and send a message.
what i would like to change:
open with the newly recieved text message.
quicker response when i press "reply".
quicker response when i close the keyboard.
quicker close of the "message program".
no stalling at all....
any ideas?
nobody has a cleu?

Hey for quicker response when closing the message program, instead of closing the program with the "X", try using the Arrow hardware button instead. It doesnt work all the time for me, but most of the time the phone doesnt freeze as it used to when i would press "X".
Go to your messages>all messages>menu>tools.sorty by and select "received"
see if that helps. As for the lag, I don't know how many processes you are running but you may want to give "HTC Clean Ram" a shot. I run it once every couple of days and on average it clears up around 20 mbs of memory. BsB tweaks is another option since there are couple of options there to enhance performance.
I LOVE the samsung keyboard with the full number row AND the "sub characters" for every key. its SO wonderful.
I have a HUGE problem though. 50-60% of the time it ALWAYS gets the WRONG sub character. you see I want "ONLY" the sub character that is actually listed on the key itself.
but when you press and hold a key it presents you with MULTIPLE options and since I tend to be moving toward my next key many if not most times it select one of the "other" sub keys and not the one (the one on the key) that I wanted.
Usually the OTHER sub character is the capital version of the letter sometimes there is one or two "other" characters.
SO I will press and hold g to get a / and instead end up with a stinking G or press hold f to get $ and get a stinking F
anyway to MOD the keyboard to flat out REMOVE all these extra's so pressing and holding ONLY gets me ONE character the one sub character listed for that key and nothing else ?
There is a mod to shorten the long press delay. I know it doesn't eliminate the other options. But perhaps letting you select the key you want faster will help.

I love "writing" on my Note 2. But I am having a few automate problems. Is there any way to change or to turn them off?
The first common problem is periods at the end of sentences. It will put a space before the period, ( Commas too ) and/or it will put in a second period after pressing the enter button.
The second one is a dash or minus sign. I have to turn on the keyboard or it will just add a space.
Yes of course I "wrote" this whole post.
