Sprint usb pc to phone modem needed asap. wm2003se - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

k. i live in the woods and my dsl modem fried from lightning last night. i have a ****ty isp that can only be reachable by submitting a service request via email since i work during their service hours of 12-3pm. i have to wait a week for a new modem
tldr; i need a program and directions that have proven to work'
here's my setup
windows xp sp3
audiovox 6600(camera)
windows mobile 2003se
usb cradle

well, what is your actual problem, connect your device to gprs, put it in the cradle and if activesync is set to accept, that the device runs wireless data connections, even while cradled, your internet connection should work. your pc should simply use the devices gprs then and automatically be connected to the internet. other alternatives (in case that doesn't work) would be, if you have wi-fi on your pc, you can try and install a wi-fi router software to your device and connect your pc to it just like with a normal access point, a freeware to try would be htc wifi router, although i fairly doubt any of those programs run with wm2003, but that should give you a clou, what to look for.

problem: wm2003se has no easy way to bum internet off of, only through the usb cable
sprint is cdma
there is no 802.11 wifi on this phone.
Still looking for help.

Help needed with wifi connection.....

We have a 3com wireless router at home. The laptop downstairs connects to it through a PCMCIA wireless adapter. My phone also connects to it fine, no probs at all.
However, we have a pc upstairs with no wireless on it at all. I have been told that I can use the phone to "simulate" a wireless connection to the router through its USB connection. I have tried this using the program Wireless Modem on the phone but to no avail. Windows XP keeps looking for a driver that a dont have and is not supplies on the CD that comes with the phone. Any ideas where I can get this driver from, or am I doing this just completely wrong......
Thanks
There seems to be a growing amount of threads regarding the whole WiFi scenario.
I have experienced problems too. I have managed to configure the wifi and it picks up my belkin wireless router but it cant surf.
I am also using XP!
Your problem is slightly different to mine but I will have a go at your problem too.
GOOD LUCK!
Ok. JUst to update, i have found the drivers that install the the phone as a HTC USB Modem but im still having no luck. Im trying to simulate my phone as a wireless card to connect to my router downstairs.
Is this possible???
samething
Ive just got myself in the same situation. I have the XDA2i connected to my WIFI router fine, I can go on the WWW. Im now need to get my laptop into the loft where Im doing some work on an iriver H10 20gb (trying to construct a connection box as they arn't available until Sept!!!) I need the net access to look up pinouts on chips. I don't have a WIFI card for the laptop yet (should be here soon as on back order  )
SO I want to use the PDA as a wifi card for my laptop through the usb port. How do i get the laptop to see the PDA as a network card and configured for this operation??
Cheers

How to connect to internet on a laptop?

I have no problem to connect to the internet (to update weather, news etc) when I connect my P3300 to my desktop (which connect to the internet through a hardwire modem and a hardwire router). When I connect the P3300 to my laptop (the laptop is connect to internet through the WIFI rounter), I then cannot update those weather or news in my P3300. What setup do I need to change in the P3300 in order to be able to get to the internet through the laptop's WIFI connection? Thank you for any help.
Should happen automatically if you have a standing ActiveSync connection. No special settings needed. On the other hand - Check your firewall. Maybe some soft on the laptop is preventing your PDA from getting access to the internet!
Thanks Theonly1....one other thing though, I am using Vista ultimate x32....
not tried this yet but....just plug in and it will recognise the phone as a modem or GSM connection for internet surfing on the laptop?
Thanks again
Thanks for the feedback
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. I have try to disable the firewall, but it still cannot connect to the internet. By the way, the laptop us window XT. If I enable the WIFI on the P3300, then it can connect to the internet by it's own WIFI. But if I disable it's own WIFI, then it did not connect to the internet throught the laptop's WIFI connection. I think there must be some setting in the network connection, so that it will be able to use the laptops WIFI and get information through it. But I do not know how. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again

Orbit as modem for Laptop on hols?

Peoples,
I would like to set up my Orbit to work as a modem for my Laptop whilst on holidays ie use it to connect to the internet etc
Question is how can I do same, and the best method given that my laptop has bluetooth and wifi (or direct cable connection?)?
Many thanks
I assume you're on O2 and don't mind paying for GPRS roaming while aboard, which I assume your holiday is also aboard.
You can follow the below link from O2 (setup for windows) which tells you what username/passowrd, phone number and ips you need to put in the settings.
http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/PDFs/Windows manual set up instructions.pdf
as far as the installing the modem goes, turn on bluetooth, discoverable, and your PC should see your phone in the bluetooth browser and you should be able to add it as a modem.
Thanks for the reply humps
...will try here (UK) first, but back in Australia will use a local SIM for data and calls....cheers
It's not that hard..
You simply need to pair up your orbit with the lappy... the blootooth should detect and install various components (modem etc)... but the one you need to use is Bluetooth LAN. On the orbit, go to intenet sharing, make the pc conenction Bluetooth PAN, and hit conenct - I've not tried it on USB, as the bluetooth is perfect...
Then, just double-click the bluetooth LAN connection on the laptop, and it should piggyback on the back of the orbit's GPRS connection.
USB is easy, start Internet Sharing in the Programs menu, tell it what connection settings to use, select USB, then touch connect. Plug the cable into the laptop and your done.

Except it runs the battery down very quickly. USB will charge the battery whilst you browse.... But other than that it is fine.
i was wondering is it possible to share ppc's wifi connection through usb to a lappy without wifi capability?

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1315142&postcount=2
It might or might not work though!
This really gets me in the UK... I have hundreds of mins free calls yet get charged sill money for going on line GPRS.... When away its cheeper to plug into a phone line and go on dial up and the same speed.... why hasnt someone come up with a way of using the phone as a 'modem' old skool style. that way i could use the phone call mins and pay for the on line time rather than kbs
Interesting thought GPRS v GSM
Have you tried settings..connections, add a new connection and just specify 'Cellular Line' arather than GPRS...
You'll need an ISP with a dialup number, but it would count as a standard call.
Problem, of course, is that most ISP dialups are 0845 numbers which won't come out of your call allowance, but if you could find one with say an 020 number, you may be getting somewhere (line spped would be v slow, but it would be good enough to download mails and then read them offline)

PPC is breaking PC WiFi: NOT a muppet post

Guys,
This WiFi problem affects 3 guys in my office, each with different PC's (IBM vs HP) and WM devices (Hermes vs TyTn) and network routers (LinkSys vs others).
It's taken MONTHS to figure out what's going on, but here it is:
- On a non-secured WiFi network, PPC devices can connect to WiFi, their companion PC's connect to WiFi, and activesync works fine between the PPC and PC in every way one could want.
- HOWEVER, on WPA WiFi networks, any PC that has had a PPC device connected to it at any time since the last PC reboot does the following: Network is found and is immediately (5-30 seconds) closed down such that no PC in the office can connect for a few mins, then cycle repeats. ie WPA network is crippled for use by any and all PC's, let alone PPC's. Note that it's the PC's crippling the network, PPC's are all turned off at this stage of the game.
- Provided PPC and PC are not USB activesync'd since last PC reboot, all devices access WPA WiFi network perfectly; the PC's and the PPC's
- A side symptom: PC's list of networks ("View Wireless Networks") will show that you are not connected when you are, and connected when you are not. ie connection status gets inverted.
Clean rebooted PC' all work fine, until someone does a USB activesync and then their PC is screwed and HAS to be rebooted. If they don't reboot, they can go home and their home WPA network will immedaitely collapse as they turn on their PC. Once a PPC has been USB'd to the PC, that PC is screwed no matter where the PPC is, and no matter whether the PPC has wifi turned on or not. We see this when guys come from home (non-secured network) and turn on PC at work, the work WiFi collapses, even tho no PPC is trying to access the network at all.
Once again, different PC's, different PPC's, different WM5/6 PPC ROM's (TyTn WM6 Black, JasJar WM5 AKU 3.5). ALL FAIL ALL THE TIME on a WPA network. We even changed the office router - no better. Besides, we all have different ADSL routers at home.
There are many other Hermes posts where I can see the user is having EXACTLY the same issue, but haven't yet gotten the insight I have from playing with so many devices on so many networks. ie I am not alone...

...
I've been working on this for months and only now fully understand the issue such that I can avoid it (unsecured networks at home, rebooted PC's after Activesync). Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Question - Can you tether a Wifi connection from your Phone to your PC

Hello, I have been searching around for a day and a half now to no avail. I figure I will ask here as a last attempt before I go and buy another USB wifi adapter.
I am trying to use my HTC Dash with WM6.5 to tether an available wifi connection over to my Windows 7 PC. Basically trying to use the phone as a wifi adapter. The phone has no cell data service, but can connect to the home wifi network that is here. My Windows 7 PC has no Wifi adapter (I left it behind >.<).
Here is where I am at. The HTC Dash is connected to the Wifi network, and when I try to select a Network in the ICS program, it says there is none available. I have been able to get USB selected in ICS, and the phone connected to the computer. In Windows I see a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in the Network Connections area when I sync the device in Windows Mobile Center. But no matter what I try, ICS sharing on the phone will not let me select the Wifi connection it has.
Through my searching I have found a lot of information on tethering 2G and 3G internet through USB, and using the phone as a Wifi Hotspot. But those where no help in this.
My friend on a G1 with Andriod can tether Wifi connections to a pc, and I am wondering if Windows Mobile can do the same thing. I can flash my ROM from to 6.0 or 6.1 WM if needed.
Thanks in advance to any advice given, hopefully someone can help me out
UPDATE: Still have no luck. I found a program called ICS Control v.21, but it only works on touchscreen WM phones, not WM standard. Which means a bunch of crashing.
This program would do exactally what I need it to do... just does not support my phone. Well the search continues... looking like I may just have to go buy an USB Wifi adapter soon.
tethering w/wifi
It does work. I'm currently answering this on my 2nd desktop Vista with my S620 via my home wifi network. Waiting for a 25' ethernet connector to hardware to wifi/modem Not quite sure how it is with a wifi adapter but 2 things I do know from experience. You shouldn't need an adapter.
1st: you can't be in Sync Center while trying to tether, at least in my case on a Vista desktop. It won't let you tether while the sync is running (or your already synced).
2nd: (this worked for me) open internet sharing on your Dash/S620, pc connection-usb and be ready to hit connect the 1st couple of seconds after pluging your usb connector into your phone, and give it 10-20 seconds to actually connect. If you wait to long to hit connect, the phone will start syncing with the computer. Won't let you tether.
RE-read post, missed thar "WinMo" remote part. My bad. Don't own Win 7. Don't know what that is.
Question: Is there an active wifi where you are ? From your post it sounds like "yes"
You do not need a wifi adapter. You do need a USB cord.
I tethered with edge for a bit, but then got to thinking. Try Wifi. It worked, but be quick.
Neither one is super fast but Wifi is definitely faster than Edge. Better than not being on the net at all. Occasionally it'll cut out, just unplug usb, get to connect screen, plug in and hit connect. Should be set.
As a side note: I also tried tethering with G1. Xferd pc driver to Vista from G1 but computer says it can't find the driver. Gave up after 2 hours.
G1 tethering works great on XP though.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. Really cool when it works.
Are you using a wifi tether or just usb?
If wifi, what program/version are you using and where did you get it? I got the ICS usb tether working, but my version of wmwifirouter.cab won't even install on the dash. cheers

I'll have to break out the Dash again and let you know. It's been sitting for weeks since I repaired LCD screen and flashed my TMO Wing. Can't seem to stop playing with it.
Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.
You do have a wifi modem, correct ? I was using usb.
Right, just to be clear, my goal is to set up my Dash to receive it's edge data and transmit that out as a wifi signal that my laptop will pick up and connect to the internet. No USB connection. I'm getting an ipad eventually and this is all to avoid that stupid 3g garbage they're hawking.
I tried a program called wmwifirouter.cab but was unsuccessful. An ad-hoc wifi network was created by my phone and my laptop was connected to it but couldn't connect to the internet. And my phone kept crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks

Well, in your case, I won't be any help. What I did was run a 2nd computer off of my Dash with a Wifi Modem.
XP in another room with a wifi modem attached on Comcast, Dash on wifi and usb to Vista computer, since I didn't have a 25ft ethernet cable at the time.
Was running Vista-Dash-wifi modem-XP to comcast so I could run 2nd computer without being hard wired.
I'm familiar with wifirouter cab. It let's you use your phone like a hotspot, correct ?
In all my searches for various things for the phones, I thought I saw a different application that did the same thing. Possibly might even have it. I'll check and upload for ya if I find it. Have hundreds of cabs/zips to search. Let you know.
Possibly google it and you might find it yourself. There's a program called: WalkingHotSpot online for $24.99 if you don't mind spending. Dash isn't listed as a supported windows device but looking at the other phones listed my guess would be it should work. Try their DEMO version, see if it works.
Good Luck.......
2AM and I was just wondering......When you received your phone, you also got a usb cable with it, right ?
Why don't you just usb Dash to laptop and use "internet sharing" ????
My plan is to set this up for an iPad, which doesn't allow internet access over a USB cable, so USB tethering is out, has to be wifi.

Do you have a home computer ? If so, get yourself a Wifi Modem and set up a home network. $40-60. Although Comcast sold me mine for $20 and I get to keep it. I can get all 5 phones on the internet at the same time, not that I need to. It'll also be so much faster then running thru Edge. Besides the fact video's don't play for crap tethered running through Edge. Just a suggestion.
My opinion stands concerning Apple. Get ready to cough up more fees for internet (ATT). They're doing away with unlimited data. Did you see their prices ?
You'll never catch me with ATT.
I just put WMWifiRouter on my TMO Wing 6.5. let you know how it worked. Setup went fine, so far.
did you try downloading the actual .cab from WMWIFIROUTER.COM it's only a trial for 21 days, the "Free" versions don't work on the dash i've tried many of them.
once you install and get it set up be sure to write down the Access ID and Password it gives you so you can connect to the WiFi signal beaming from your phone from your PC. It works for me to tether a WiFi connection from my Dash to PC though I prefer the more stable Internet Sharing USB to PC and I have an Unlimited Data Plan.
WMWIFIROUTER also lets you tether a connection from your phone via bbluetooth.
I use WMWiFiRouter and its a life saver. It lets you pretty much tether any connection to any other.
Just yesterday I was at a meeting in a resturant with some clients and used it to hook my netbook to the internet and used bluetooth as the connection to the phone. Yes, Internet Sharing can do that, but it has alot more it can do too.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (it shows up as a USB modem), or even set it up as a WiFi Router.
Very cool program and it works perfectly on the Dash. I love it.
I never tried the trial version. A friend of mine showed it to me, so I just bought it. It's under $20. Well worth it if you run into that situation often.
