I was just looking at an unlocked TP2 on eBay and love the fact that it has the second CMOS camera. Sadly it is for ATT/TMobile and I dont want to jump ship from my Verizon and Sprint accounts. I know its a long shot but because both versions are world phones would it be possible to flash an ATT/TMobile or Rogers to Verizon or Sprint and it work?
The T-Mo TP2 is a GSM phone and won't work on Verizon or Sprint.
But the TP2 should be coming to Sprint and Verizon around the first week of September. Of course that means you'd have to reup your contract.
No, but the Verizon/Sprint/Telus models can work on ATT, Tmo, Rogers since they are cdma and gsm. Unfortunately that's not what you were looking for

The Verizon/Sprint version won't be comming with a second camera.
I know its "wishfull thinking" but.....I was hoping that all the band limitations were software based and all the hardware was inside. Possibly some way to hack it to use on any carrier. Like I said, wishful thinking.
Only the Europe models have the second camera. All the North American models only have the camera on the back.
And the Verizon/Sprint models won't work on AT&T/Tmo unless someone hacks the North American GSM lockout they claim is implemented.
Hi, I have been looking at getting a TP2 in the UK but they seem to be gold dust at the moment (as evident by a few other posters here complaining that T-Mobile and O2 are currently not stocking the phone due to "similarity with iPhone, N97, etc".). Anyway I am thinking of buying it on eBay and as I might be heading to the states soon, I was thinking of getting the TP2 in the US, unlocked. But I am not sure if the networks are compatible for use on O2 network in the UK. Apologies in advance for the ingorance...! Any advice would be helpful. Cheers.
Go Vodafone. Far better customer service than o2. Was a loyal o2 customer for about 5 years and was sick of not being able to understand indian accents on customer support. Gave up went to vodafone, got TP2. Profit.
As for the bands I am unsure. Just my input about netwroks. Sorry if it wasnt what you wanted.
I believe that that T-Mobile US version is compatible and the AT&T Version (which isn't out yet) definitely is. None of the US versions have front cameras, though. You will also need to find someone with AT&T that will request the unlock code for you (unless you find it unlocked on eBay).
Thanks for your quick response!
I tried going via Vodafone but the TP2 is currently only available to business customers. And because I have only moved house last month they rejected my application (didn't pass their credit check, apparently, despite having not missed a single credit payment, ever, in my life...). They did say I can apply again in 3 months, but I don't think I can wait that long, as I've been eye-ing the TP2 for like 3 months, waiting for my O2 contract to end!
I hear that the TP2 in the states are getting a regular 3mm plug for audio, which is a plus, but loses the front camera... hmm, trade offs! But at the risk of them incompatibility... perhaps a UK version is in order...
http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/
there you go
yep go to MPD get a unlocked unbranded with a voda contract thats what i did £25 for the phone and 750 mins 250 text unlimited internet for £33 a month
Thirding MPD, 25 quid contract 18 months + web and walk.
Paid £50 for the phone. This gets a pristine unlocked oem phone which can be invaluable later on when the roms etc start coming out!
As far as the bands go- Im pretty sure you will be fine- if you have a look at this list:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/com...[0]=3478&phones[1]=2879&phones[2]=1590&area=2
It compares the Euro TP2 with the US touch pro and a sidekick (which should give a fair indication of what bands are used)
This site gives the bands and coverage for a load of networks over the pond so you should be able to check if you will get service:

Thanks that is very helpful. I think I will follow the advice of others and go with MPD for a new contract. Thanks again everyone! I cant wait to get my hands on the TP2.
If you are calling them, persist in re-dialing - don't bother leaving a message - it's worth it.
I dealt with Lucy - excellent service.

When and where are you coming to the US? I have Euro version of phone and live in the US. If you buy US version you can not use 3G in ohter parts of the world. Same for Euro 3G can not be used in States. Maybe you can get US 3G version and then we can trade
If you come to New York City you can buy from store....mobilecityonline.com or at their actual store.

AT&T's HTC phones with 3G all have 2100MHz, I am sure the Tile 2 (Touch Pro 2 for AT&T) will also. This means it will work with European 3G as well as AT&T 3G.
I don't know about the AT&T version working in Europe. According to statements here and elsewhere the AT&T band, despite being classified as 2100mhz is slightly different from the rest of the world's 2100mhz bands, making it incompatible with them (I can't testify to this, it's just what I've read).

Thats the T-Mobile version with the different 2100MHz. It has 1700MHz and 2100MHz, one for download and one for uplink. The European 2100MHz is 2100MHz for both downlink and uplink. The 2100MHz included on AT&T handsets is the European 2100MHz and not the T-Mobile version (which is referred to as 1700MHz to get around confusion).
The T-Mobile version's specifications list 1700MHz/2100MHz. I do not know if they are referring only to their bands where one is downlink and one is uplink or if they mean 1700MHz (1700MHz/2100MHz) AND European 2100MHz. I would bet that it includes European 3G but I am not positive.
Sorry, my bad. I get those companies mixed up
Yes I have been worried about the whole slightly different band and therefore it may or may not work in Europe!
I am having trouble with phone contracts at the moment because I have just moved home so my credit rating is completely annhilated and it just takes too long for the credit company to sort it out. In the end I have used eBay and bought a Vodafone branded TP2. I am sticking with O2 simplicity SIM at the moment as a rolling 30 day contract. I've not had too much trouble with O2 customer service, I always seem to get non-Indian, English speaking folks, but retention line was unprepared to make any offer at all which baffled me!
Anyway, onto the exciting (and somewhat scary prospect!) of getting to grips with Hard SPL and custom Roms!
PS, sorry At0mAng I got your message too late! I was thinking of California.
Hello
I'd like to buy HTC Touch Pro2 (unlocked version), but I heard that it doesn't support 3G in USA? is that right? and why?
Will they release an unlocked version supports 3G in USA?
Does it support 3G in Asia and Europe?
What's exactly the differences between 2G and 3G?
P.S. I have an AT&T SIM card.
I know my questions are many but I'm so confused.
I'll be so appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If by "unlocked" you mean the original/intenational version, then no, it won't connect to 3G in the USA. The radio frequency of the hardware is wrong, and since it is hardware it can't be fixed by a software tweak. I think it's fine on 3G in Europe and maybe Asia (but I'm not an expert). There's lots of info out there if you look.
It will work fine on GSM (T-Mobile/ATT, for example) 2/2.5 bands in the USA and most/lots/all of Europe, Asia, etc.
To use ATT 3G you will need an ATT-branded TP2.
Basically, 3G is faster -- faster data transmission -- than 2G. Both terms refer to data speeds ranges, not specific technologies.
You should look at the Australian Telstra Touch Pro 2 T7381 it has been reported to work on ATT US and Rogers/FIDO Canada.
Why not wait one more week and it will be available in the USA from ATT. I give it then about 2 days before they start to show up on Ebay. These phones will be guaranteed to work on the North American frequencies.
That will be my strategy.
Thanks very much guys for replying
What's ATT-branded TP2?
What about HTC HD? does it have the same issue?

Yes, it's.
If you want one that specifically supports 3G in the US, your choices are the AT&T Tilt 2, or the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2.
In the US, the 3G bands unfortunately are different than the rest of the world:
Europe/Asia 3G : 2100
USA (AT&T) 3G: 850/1900
USA (TMo) 3G: 1700/2100 -- TMO uses one for up and the other for down, so you can't use a Euro/Asian 3G phone and get full speed on USA TMO
But the nice thing is that the 2 US carrier phones also throw in 2100 on the TP2, so it'll work overseas as well.
I hope that helps.

I have an Unlocked TMo Branded Touch Pro 2 and am currently using it on AT&T.
Are there any settings I need to input in order to get 3G? For whatever reason, I'm only getting EDGE (or at least that's the icon I receive on the winmo taskbar).
Thanks!
Edit again:
Wow... did I just see the AT&T is on 850/1900? Wow... I think I may be selling my TP2 now...

Video call partly works if you have the dialer that supports video call. I have a Tilt with video call dialer. When I went to Hong Kong I was able to use video call but only for receiving the video, not sending.

Unfortunately it's a hardware thing. The TMO ones specifically have hardware for 1700/2100 3G, so software tweaks won't do a thing on AT&T. Sorry!

From a speed/band perspective, I believe the US versions work fine on the UK 2100 bands. However, as mentioned before there are 2 other items:
(1) the dialer has to support it (which it looks like you can obtain) so that's ok on a software end; BUT
(2) The US versions of the phone don't have the front camera in the upper right hand corner. Since US carriers really haven't gotten around to promoting 3G and video calling, most US carrier phones don't have the front camera needed for video conferencing.
In all, that is a big requirement, I would recommend sticking with an unbranded or at least Euro-carrier unlocked branded TP2.
I see that HTC Touch Pro2 from AT&T is now available in eBay.

THANKS for the reply... I didnt know that US TP2's dont have front camera. thats suck.. the only reason i want to get the tp2 from US is because i know someone can hook me up with the ETF for less. well im just gonna wait till april for my upgrade.. free phone always makes me happy!
So I have a Touch Pro2 on my personal T-Mobile account. My company has issued me a iPhone for my work phone. Which they pay for 100%. My question is if I unlock my Touch Pro2 and put my sim card from my iPhone in the TP2 will AT&T change my data plan to a PDA one? Since I do not pay my company phone bill I don't want to do anything to change that plan or add more money to it without permission. By the way the iPhone is mine so if I leave the company I take it with me. So I want to get the Touch Pro2 to work on my company line so I can sell the iPhone pocket some cash and cancel my personal line.
At&T data plans
the iphone plan and the PDA plan are completely different features and are not cross compatible. If the company bought you an iphone, in order to make the internet work on the TP2 you will have to have the feature changed out, if it is the company's account, you may not have that access to make the change, and internet won't work until it is changed.
You dont need a pda plan to use a unlocked touch pro 2 from tmobile i have one and im on att, the tmobile version doesnt register on the att network so the most they can charge is the lowest data plan. as far as your plan the iphone plan is probably the only plan that doesnt change on its own, although if you put the sim in your touch pro 2 youll still get data and still be charger the iphone plan. but remember your only get edge dta speeds with a unlocked version.

That is correct. Tmobile TP2 has different 3G radio hardware than ATT. I got a Tmobile TP2 and unlocked it to use on ATT so that they couldnt take away my $19 unlimited data plan. the Edge radio works and thats fast enough for what I use the phone for.
I have tp2 on att network also but i cant connect to aim or any instant messaging programs what should i do. I configured the settings to connect to the internet and it works.but i cant use aim, yahoo, and myspace im.

Well seeing as how my previous company phone was BlackBerry Curve running edge I don't think it would be entirely a problem.
Is it faster or slower?

How different? Is T-Mobile chip is faster than AT&T chip or slower? If I'm with T-Mobile TP2 phone and AT&T service what will happen if I'll flash the latest AT&T stock radio on the T-Mobile phone?

Is there any way to get the 3G to work on my TP2 (unlocked T-mobile)with my at&t 3G sim card ??? It is so f***ing slow!

You're taken care of now, but just for the record, the TMo and ATT 3G services propagate over different frequencies. The 3G radio in the TMo phone is tuned to transmit/receive 3G info over TMo's frequencies, and the Tilt2 is tuned to transmit/receive 3G info over ATT's frequencies. It's not a question of which chip is faster, but rather which chip can access which carrier's 3G frequency.
Most GSM phones have quad-band edge, meaning they can access edge-speed data on most carriers. But most branded GSM phones have only their particular carrier's 3g band.
Flashing the ATT ROM onto the TMo phone won't affect the speed of the 3g radio, as it is a hardware difference, not a software difference.

TMOBILE HTC Touch PRO 2 has different hardware -meant to read "band" specifically for Tmobile's 3g.
ATT TILT 2 has hardware specific for ATTs 3g network.
You can use Tmobile phones on ATT using Edge..but you will never get to ATTs 3g network. You simply just dont have the hardware. It's just like buying a phone that has not internal GPS chip and no matter how you flash it or add/remove software, you simply can't use the turn-by-turn navi software (unless you use an external bluetooth device).
Additionally, anyone know about the radio compatibility of a HTC branded TP2? I purchased mine already unlocked, and not sure if I can get 3G from ATT or not...

Yup, that is exactly what I feared...Good to know, and I Think mine will end up on Craigslist before long.
the reason the 3G wont work is because the 2 carriers use different basebands for service. While they both have 3G capabilites, ATT uses 850 and 1900 and Tmobile uses 1700 and 2100... it may have changed but i know thats what it used to be. It is the same reason that (forgive me for mentioning the dang thing) the iphone 3G wont work on tmobile, it will only work at EDGE speeds.

Just spoke to the manager over at Negri, he says that the phone will not work on Tmobile's 3g/HSPA+ Network
EDIT: He changed his mind and said that it could and will let me try it on TMO. If it doesn't work he said I could send it back
Apply all updates first without inserting any sim card. Then once the phone has all updates try your TMO sim. It likely will not work. I tried many times to get a Rogers Nokia Lumia 900 to work with Mobilicity and it was futile. That was before the updates came out. I sold the phone well before that so don't have anything to test with.
Mobilicity works on same AWS 1700/2100 frequency that TMO has so I'm going to say it will not work. But hey.. no harm in giving it another go. Let us know how it works out. Make sure you can get your money back !
Yeah try it with the updates. The update is supposed to fix connectivity issues. I'm curious to know. I would have purchased one already to try on Tmobile but I can't until June when I'm back in the states.
It is to my understanding that unless Tmo changed in your are how it handles 3g and 4g you will be stuck with Edge. Tmo traditionally used UMTS 1700/2100. Tmo had announced that they where going to use 1900 for hspa+ (4G). If they did then you will be able to use Lumia with 4g and edge. Thats what I understand at least.

According to the Rogers 900 box, it has 1700/2100 HSPA/WCDMA band on the phone plus the Rogers version is a HSPA 42 device (ATT's is only HSPA21). I will give it a try and see what happens. I have screen shots of the online chat I had that said I could get all my money refunded if it didn't work on T-mobile. I won't get it until the end of the week
If it does have hspa 1700/2100 it should work yes. But why would they sell another device? Wouldn't it be cheaper to take the one they are already selling and unlock it and sell it as is? Regardless no specs on it.
Have you received the phone yet? any news?
Sorry, I have been swamped with final exams this week. I didn't receive the phone. Actually before it got shipped, the guys over at Negri tested the phone out with a Tmobile sim card and they only got edge speeds out of it. I told them to send it to me anyways. I figure worst case senario I can still sell this thing on Ebay (unlocked ones go for around $700-750) or let my girl friend use it (she's been dying to get out of her iPhone)
I've had my Roger's 900 for a week now unlocked and can only get Edge data speeds on Tmobile. I spoke to Roger's and Tmobile and they don't understand why. I think I'm going to sell on Ebay and wait for the Tmobile 900. I've confirmed that they are training employees on the 900 so it should be soon.

Because Tmo uses 1700/2100 and most unlocked phones do not run on that freq. Memory serves me right Rogers runs same freq as A&T so it won't be able to gt 3g, Maybe hsdpa+ IF Tmo is broadcasting it on 1900 but I doubt that.
Because it's LTE 1700/2100 not AWS 1700/2100. I wrote ths message back about a month ago. Check the Rogers Nokia Lumia 900 on Mobilicity posts.
