Hello all,
i have a Verizon xv6900 and i was wondering if i could unlock it and use it on the Sprint network. if so how do i do this? i have unlocked a few other phones and i am very proficient with hacking windows mobile phones and such so if i had a guide of some sort i am positive i could do it.
second question is weather i would still be able to use the GPS. i have hacked my GPS to work with Verizon and i love it, i don't want to lose it if i go to Sprint. also does sprint offer 3G speeds? i get excellent speeds with Verizon here in Utah.

Dont watch much TV or visit Sprint.com much do you?? LOL just kidding
Yes, 3G is offered through Sprint its their major advertising push to be honest
If your phone is compatible with Sprint (which it is) you will have GPS and aGPS moving over to Sprint

So wait, If I bought a sprint Touch could I unlock it and Activate it on verizon? Is it possible to do the same with a sprint Touch Pro? I was told it wouldn't work because of the ESNs. I'm just wondering because the Sprint (CDMA) touch pro has more ram than the verizon verzion!!!
Sounds great! i figured i could do it. and no, i dont really watch TV. my mind gets bored with it rather quickly, to be honest i havent had a TV for about 5 years until just about 2 weeks ago i got a new 46" sony lcd for under $100, so now i may start watching a bit, who knows.
anyways, if you could help me figure out what needs to be done to get it activated with sprint that would be great.

that is correct: NO it won't work... you cannot activate a Sprint Touch on Verizon or vice-versa, because they won't be in each other's ESN database.
seems hardly worth it to contemplate trying to get it to work... all you really have to do is to sell the Sprint phone and buy a Verizon one... minimal lossage and big savings in time and frustration... (more ram not withstanding)
you *could* probably activate a Sprint Touch on PagePlus, a Verizon MVNO... see hofo for details...
I currently have an iPhone 3Gs which I like but the Touch2 is looking pretty nice. I'm thinking of leaving AT&T and going with the Touch2 using Verizon. Most of the ROMs I have seen here are for T-Mobile, my question is - can they be used on a Verizon phone? I have a couple of more questions if you don't mind:
1. Since I may be getting a new Touch2 - would it be wise to upgrade WM6.1 to 6.5 right off the bat - before even adding contacts, etc?
2. Can the Verizon version be update to 6.5 and is it safe and stable?
3. Which ROM would you recommend using? I'd rather have speed than 'pretty'.
I'm new to this and did not even know ROMs were available since the iPhone does not use one.
Thanks all,
MasterJack
BTW, I did a search for Verizon but not much came up.
1. No 6.5 for VZ out yet
2. Once 6.5 is officially released or HSPL becomes available
3. No HSPL out for VZ yet, so no custom ROMs
Bummer - sounds like I'm S.O.L. for now - maybe I'll just keep my iPhone until 6.5 and ROMs are available..... thank you.
you will be able to update it to 6.5 and use custom roms eventually, but not yet. just install windows phone on the phone and sync your contacts with it and when you instal a new rom you can sync them back onto the phone, pictures, ringtones, anything you put in their info. also, check sprint a lot cheaper monly plan, with the lowest minutes its $70/month on verizon (they make you get data). The Sprint Touch Pro2 should be around the T-Mobile ($150) / Verizon ($200) price range when its for sale in stores (10/11) and online through other retailers.
btw, some guy on my local craigslist will give u his tmobile touch pro2 for ur iphone if ur near chicago.

Thanks for your reply. I have never checked out Sprint - how is their coverage compared to Verizon? How does the TP2 Sprint compare to the TP2 Verizoin - hardware-wise?
Hardware wise they are the same. As for coverage, go to each of their sites and click "coverage map". There is a link right on their front pages.
How about the AT&T version due out soon - would it be wise to wait for that one or go with Verizon's version? Will AT&T's version be any better?

There is speculation that the AT&T version will ship with WM 6.5... Other then that, the only real difference is in the Carrier. Verizon is CDMA - mostly North America Service - Has an international option for GSM. AT&T will be GSM standard and will also allow for custom ROM's...
I have used Verizon and AT&T for work and Verizon seems like the better network in the US. I am personally waiting for the AT&T version.. (Same carrier I am on now.)
Why the desire for 6.5 so bad? Not much is different.
The stock ROM on the Verizon version is surprisingly good. Unless there is earth shattering improvements I doubt I'll flash it at this point.
No matter what, out of the box, this phone blows the iphone away!
Just finally took a look at one today at a T-Mobile store. Very nice unit - not as reponsive as my iPhone but it makes up in many other areas. I just saw that AT&T will have one soon - what's the advantage of that one over let's say Verizon? I just got my 3Gs a couple of months ago so I would have to break my contract with AT&T to get one - weather I get one from them (just break it and re-sign up if I can) or go with Verizon. My thought is that Verizon has better coverage here in Houston.
What about the Samsung Omnia II - seems very nice - which carriers will carry it?
Thx,
MasterJack

Agreed, with GPS working and the stock ROM running well (for me) I'll wait for official 6.5 (as it is better than the HTC TouchFlo interface IMO). Though I am sure once it is cracked I won't be able to resist, but it is saying something that that I am not dying to upgrade it. As an old Touch and Touch Pro user this stock experience isn't even in the same league.
So if I go with the Verizon version - you recommend no changing anything? Just leave it alone until 6.5 comes out?
What's good site to learn about what's new with 6.5 as it relates to this phone?
Thx,
MasterJack

You really don't have a choice with the Version Phone.. You can not add new ROM's until somene creates a HARD SPL for the CDMA phones. Once that is created, it provides the ability to make changes to the base OS.
I really dont like AT&T. I have gone back to them on 2 different occasions and left becuase of the same issues. There are days where they work great. There are other days where in areas you had full signal in, you will drop a call or be searching for service. AT&T's network just isnt as mature as Verizons. I have traveled all over the US for work and verizon is always the best.
One thing i am going to add....The only thing that is nice about AT&T is there handset freedom. But they are even managing to take that away from there clients.
I agree on the service area... Verizon's network is the best in the US...
I have moved my company to AT&T for two reasons... They used to get hardware out before anyone else (Tilt) and I can use the phones in Europe and Mexico with out issue. (Verizon works in Mexico but is expensive).
this is out for verizon right? i got it for tmobile and i love it so since my gf is looking for a new phone i will recommend it even tho she wants a black berry
No, I'm not asking when/if the Incred is gonna hit Sprint.
Due to a falling out with Verizon, I'm now with Sprint, and would like to bring the $300 phone over to them (even if I would love to get my hands on an Evo). Now, considering I've never even considered taking an unlocked phone and dropping it onto another provider, I was hoping someone here in the forums may know whether or not it is possible to do so.
I mean, they're both CDMA and Sprint does use Verizon's towers...
It's not possible sadly. Not for any technical reasons, there are no issues there, but Sprint won't activate a phone's ESN number that's not in their system. The ESN contains the model number/vender/etc. Being that this phone is a VZW-exclusive, there really isn't a lot you can do... sorry =/.

HTC is known for releasing phones that are better than and similar to other carriers versions, so i'd try to hold out, HTC releases phones every other month or so too. You can still use the phone as a Wifi only device atleast so its not entirely useless.
also, from the sound of it DeeBG, the ESN seems to be the same as a VIN for a car, didn't know the ESN contained all that info, i thought it was just an id like a MAC I.D. on wireless devices.
As far as them not activating the ESN, a while back they were part of the Open Handset Alliance, as was Verizon, and T-Mobile was also in there, and as far as i've read, Verizon is the only carrier that left it.
An H-SPL* unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile from Verizon can be made to work on Sprint, its just that the 3G won't work (just to give an example)
*H-SPL is the equivelant of Root on Android, except on Windows Mobile OS

You're chances are about as good as Janet Reno winning a Miss America pageant. Sprint will not activate it as the MEID is not in their database nor would they even remotely entertain the idea of adding it as they can not support it if there are problems.
anything is possible but you are then on your own with no warranty or support from sprint. if you search around you can find how to do it but it is not easy and really not worth it unless you enjoy messing around with programming phones.
best bet is to ebay your INC and get an EVO on sprint. you'll probably come out ahead money wise anyway.
I say try activating it online. It wouldn't hurt to try. Can't speak for Sprint, but I've activated an old MotoQ from Sprint on Verizon's network within the last 6 months or so. So, I at least know Verizon does it. Or maybe they both carried the same phone at one point. But, trying doesn't hurt.
Edit: Comment back here when you figure it out.
I am currently on VZ until Dec of this year. I plan on telling them to kiss mt butt. I was planning on going back to AT&T and getting an unlocked Xperia PLAY for around $179 on eBay. As such my wife and I are looking at other options. I love my phone and can honestly say I do not relish the thought of another phone without the gamepad. I have heard its possible in rare instances to make a VZ phone work on Sprint but I cannot find anything in detail. Is it possible to do this with my phone? Be advised the contract I originaly signed with VZ was for a D2G and I later bought a used R800x then just activated it.
So... is it possible to use this on Sprint? Thank you in advance.
I have searched and I found many sites saying I can't bring a Sprint Note 4 to Verizon. What I'm asking here is, if I'm willing to risk bricking the device, is there any way to reimage this thing to take over to Verizon? In theory, could flashing a Verizon ROM to this phone make it work just like a Verizon Note 4? I don't want to brick it if I can avoid it, but I also am willing to risk it if there's a chance it will work.

You can Flash any verizon based rom along with datafix and custom kernel.
For example if you are flashing verizon marshmallow rom Make sure datafix and kernel based on marshmallow.
Its not gonna brick your device or anything just make backup rom &efs first before trying.
In the worst case you will stuck at bootloop ( soft brick ) if that happens just go back to twrp and restore your backup rom.

I know for sure that there's a unified Nougat build for our device that works on all carriers so that would solve your problem if you're an AOSP fan.
That's great! Do you know what that ROM is?
Here you go bud. This rom is great. Currently running it on my N910T

Sim set up is a bit different.. I was told you can't.. Personally I hate Verizon. I was with them for 18 months, and came back to Sprint.. I love unlimited data, something Verizon does not offer anymore.. What ever issues you have with Sprint ask your self these questions. Are you willing to have to watch your data? $20 per each gig you are over. Are you ok with paying a higher price for service? If you have your phone turned off, just because you missed a payment by mistake. Are you willing to accept a $20 charge per line, to turn your service back on? Sprints service has gotten a lot better in just 18 months I was away, and I will never go to Verizon again or AT&T. Verizon told me they have no more overage charge, I believe that is BS. They claim they just throttle you down a bit, and that all companies do that.. BS again, as Sprint has never throttled me back for using way to much data, and I use a lot.

It has nothing to do with preference. Verizon annoys me, frankly, but I get a phone through work and have to use that carrier. I could change my phone though.
It's not looking like I'll be able to switch because of the SIM differences, but I'm going to keep looking. I wish someone had actually done this.

No, and my daily driver phone broke yesterday, so I REALLY wish I could get it to work.
So rooting the Sprint version and flashing the Verizon modems wont work? And/or downloading source for Sprint version and compile Verizon modems into said ROM?

Here are the issues you will face with trying to activate a Sprint branded Samsung on Verizon. #1 Verizon won't activate a Sprint branded phone on their network. #2 Sprint N4 has different LTE bands and doesn't have the critical Verizon band 13 and a few others. Verizon and Sprint operate on different frequencies also. For this reason, it can't be used on Verizon and this is most likely the biggest reason Verizon will not activate it on their "BYOD" (bring your own device) policy. If this was possible I would have kept my Sprint N4 when moving back over to Verizon. So put this dream to rest. Not possible. Sorry.
