Hello all,
i have a Verizon xv6900 and i was wondering if i could unlock it and use it on the Sprint network. if so how do i do this? i have unlocked a few other phones and i am very proficient with hacking windows mobile phones and such so if i had a guide of some sort i am positive i could do it.
second question is weather i would still be able to use the GPS. i have hacked my GPS to work with Verizon and i love it, i don't want to lose it if i go to Sprint. also does sprint offer 3G speeds? i get excellent speeds with Verizon here in Utah.

Dont watch much TV or visit Sprint.com much do you?? LOL just kidding
Yes, 3G is offered through Sprint its their major advertising push to be honest
If your phone is compatible with Sprint (which it is) you will have GPS and aGPS moving over to Sprint

So wait, If I bought a sprint Touch could I unlock it and Activate it on verizon? Is it possible to do the same with a sprint Touch Pro? I was told it wouldn't work because of the ESNs. I'm just wondering because the Sprint (CDMA) touch pro has more ram than the verizon verzion!!!
Sounds great! i figured i could do it. and no, i dont really watch TV. my mind gets bored with it rather quickly, to be honest i havent had a TV for about 5 years until just about 2 weeks ago i got a new 46" sony lcd for under $100, so now i may start watching a bit, who knows.
anyways, if you could help me figure out what needs to be done to get it activated with sprint that would be great.

that is correct: NO it won't work... you cannot activate a Sprint Touch on Verizon or vice-versa, because they won't be in each other's ESN database.
seems hardly worth it to contemplate trying to get it to work... all you really have to do is to sell the Sprint phone and buy a Verizon one... minimal lossage and big savings in time and frustration... (more ram not withstanding)
you *could* probably activate a Sprint Touch on PagePlus, a Verizon MVNO... see hofo for details...
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone in Toronto area would know a place to buy the HTC Desire Z that isn't from Bell?
Or if it is from Bell, contains no Bell software (unbranded) and is unlocked?
I've been looking and haven't had any luck.
and has anyone noticed that Rogers is falling behind in the phone model area? Their phones are kind of getting outdated...
Thanks!
I uphave one unlocked with rogers....yeh there wayy behimd in terms of android. I suggest checking out kijiji.com or look at ebay or craigslist. If all else fails pm me and ill find you some online.

I purchased an unlocked/unbranded Desire Z on Ebay to use in the states on the AT&T network. It was a North American Version which had the correct 3G bands for ATT. Had a good seller and good experience but the phone was quite pricey. They go for anywhere between $550 and $650 US.
I would suggest buying it from Bell via FutureShop or BestBuy.
You don't have to get a plan if you do that, plus they offer their extended warranties which still cover you if you root the phone, etc (though you should still make it appear stock).
You can flash the official WWE ROM which is basically stock HTC Sense. It won't have the Bell apps, and you don't need to root or anything to flash the WWE ROM (I think). You just need to make a 'goldcard' which is just a specially formatted SD card.

Yeah I was gonna buy one from Bell, but I don't know any trustworthy sites I can buy the unlock code from, which was why I opened this thread, but anyone here know one?

Be careful, because G2 owners have found big problems when they unlock their phones, like not being able to connect to any network after that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835673
Cellunlock.net with the code bbrocks50 for half price. You can find the phone listed a couple different ways. Either by first looking up htc or by first looking up bell. One is chapter than the other. I paid 15.
Zero issues unlocking. I think the issues are limited to g2.
I'm unlocked with Telus currently..and I used HTCsimUnlowNow.com. Seemed to work fine..the only thing was it was initially $15, but then I had to send them another $10 (after paying the 15) because of the Bell carrier or some excuse. So far i've had no problems..and i'm even able to use my BB data plan with the HTC despite Telus telling me it most likely wouldnt work lol.
I was wondering if I'm able to remove Bell's software using a program (TitaniumBackup, for example) or do I have to go through that whole process of flashing this and that to unbrand it?
And how bothersome is the Bell software?
..Although I'm gonna do it anyway but I don't have time right now to mod the phone.
You need root and it takes a lot of time to do it with titanium. It's easier to flash the wwe rom. But the apps aren't too annoying. The lack of htc locations is annoying
To elaborate on my last msg (which I wrote in a rush)..
It's more painful and takes longer to remove the apps manually as you need to root and then use Titanium's force remove method, one by one, which reboots the phone each time and takes forever.
Alternatively you could root and then S-OFF and delete those apps with the root file manager.
Or, the easiest/quickest way imho is to borrow/make a goldcard, download the euro HTC Sync, the WWE Rom, and run the ROM install program. It does the rest of the work for you
I was gonna go buy the phone today but Bell won't sell it unless I go on a plan.
I called up several different places, all the same reply, they won't let the phone go unless it's going out with a plan.
Does anyone know where I could buy it in and around Toronto?

I asked at our local Best Buy (Oshawa) yesterday and they said they can sell the phone without a plan, no problem.
I bought mine today, you can buy it at WirelessWave or Telephone booth for the retail price.
I did notice the timestamp on the text messages are incorrect though, does anyone else have this problem?
I bought mine brand new on ebay for $375, t-mobile branded.. paid $15 to unlock it.
I suggest watching for a cheap one on ebay, maybe even try to bargain with some sellers.

I suggest not buying from bell, or anything that is compatible with bell, unless you need it for ATT US or in Australia. Reason is that they use the wrong frequencies for use in Canada and would lock you to ROBELUS (the old evil phone companies). The US version of the vision is better... still compatible with robbers, but also with the best things that have happened to telecommunications in canada.... ever.
It sounds like we should start an exchange:
T-Mobile/Wind compatible phones exchanged for Bell/Telus/Rogers/AT&T compatible phones...
I'm on AT&T and I'd love to find the Bell Desire Z for purchase at a reasonable price. All the prices I've seen are ~$650 but the phones retail price is $500. Maybe I'm just not used to Canadian taxes... can my Canadian brethren enlighten this ignorant American as to how much the phone would cost unsubsidized after taxes?
You can get them straight from Bell for $565, with tax (13% on 499.95). If you look on kijiji and CL you can get them anywhere from $400-$500.
I bought mine yesterday for $480, no tax, and factory unlocked. It was brand new and sealed and came with a receipt for the warranty.
A lot of people are fooled into paying $600-$650 for an unlocked phone because sellers try to tell them that it costs $80-$100 to unlock it. But if people would take the time to look they would find you can get it unlocked for $25.

You can get it locked for free now, thanks to the fantastic work of scotty. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857390
I'm on Rogers and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find out. Everyone wants to charge an arm and a leg. Trying to trade my Xperia X10 and some cash for a Desire Z.
Hey guys,
I was looking around for an unlocked version of the Galaxy Nexus in Canada, and stumbled on some information that the Bell/Virgin versions were actually sim-unlocked (being Nexus devices, and all). However, when I called The Source (closest store to me), they said that it is, in fact, locked.
Can anyone confirm that an off-contract Bell/Virgin Galaxy Nexus is sim-locked?
Thanks.
Don't listen to any of the workers. They tell you that to scare you into signing 3 year contract or they just don't know. Most of the workers have no clue about phones except what they are trained on.
Ex: last week in best buy mobile one girl told me they had the Galaxy Nexus for Rogers and they were selling them already.... I walked out once I heard that lol

Thats what I figured, and I know that Nexus devices are (almost?) always unlocked, but $650 is a lot to drop on a phone if I don't know for sure that I won't be able to use it, you know?

If you want to have some more peace of mind about the unlocking situation, i picked up a Galaxy Nexus from Virgin on the 7th. I threw my Rogers SIM in it without issue. So rest assured that are unlocked and work perfectly on Rogers.
Unlocked!! 4 SSure!

I also picked my Nexus up but at the bell store. I actually was on rogers at the time, was going to bring it back to rogers. But, Rogers upload speeds on their network (Not LTE) is nothing more then 1Mb. Were as bell i've seen and i get 4-5Mb which is very nice for VOIP calling and video.
They also offered me a cheaper package deal then i was paying on rogers with the same features. And so i switched HAHAHA Never thought i would.
But this phone is unlocked as i did place an AT&T sim inside the phone and it also worked fine.(I have a AT&T account as well).
hello all..
i searched as much as i could around the forums and google before positing this question.
i want to change providers. from verizon to whatever possible (tmobile or straight talk even) because verizon says i owe them $700. i havent had verizon service since then (6+ months) because i refuse to pay that. I am just using hotspots and im VERY tired of trying to find a mcdonalds or free wifi.
so im wondering if i can switch providers with a CDMA? Everywhere i looked (google) it says its not possible with CDMA only GSM.
Please help me! I apologize if i didnt find the original post similar to mine...
thanks
You're correct. You can NOT use your CDMA Nexus other than Verizon. In other words, you have to find new phone in order to use on different carrier.
Your phone will only work on verizons network. You will need a new phone one way or another.

hey guys... thanks for your help i appreciate it.
since i cant use this phone (verizon wants $1100) is there a good trustworthy place online to sell this phone?
BuyMyTronics(DOTCOM) says they would give me a little over 100 for this phone. im desperate but not desperate enough to put my personal name and address in their form without the website being https:// or ssl...
are there any LEGIT companies out there that i can trust?
haha, good luck with that. Past due bill with verizon means your phone is blacklisted. Basically you'll be selling a pretty much useless (Bad ESN/IMEI) phone that nobody else can use either.

I am waiting for the Nexus 4 to get back in stock. Going to run the BYOP Straight Talk plan on it. :good:
funny thing is that if you ask that question on a Dinc forum where people are still actively using and developing for the Dinc, the correct answer should be......another Dinc! lots of used ones on eBay for under 60$. Unlocked, Rooted, overclocked and running a better OS than Stock plus EXT4 fix makes this device still a usable device today.
but on a more serious note, me using the Dinc is tied into a couple of factors-that I am on Verizon and probably staying that way but might go to one of it;s derivatives like Pageplus Cellular. this keeps me in the CDMA/3G world for the time being so any replacement would have to be compatible.
seems like this question gets asked alot-what are some 3G VZW compatible phones out there? can you take a VZW phone and bring it to Straighttalk as easy as you can with Pageplus Cellular?

I am currently on Pageplus and don't have any complaints. I have looked around for a newer CDMA phone and the prices are crazy. The Nexus 4 is the best deal I have seen but I will have to switch to Straight Talk as it is GSM only. I don't think there is an option on Straight Talk to bring your own CDMA phone.
yes, that is my understanding on Straighttalk as well-they support sprint CDMA phones with some flashing or modification but it;s not easy. They want to push everyone to GSM.
So do you have a Dinc on pageplus? how is that working? was there any complications with getting it working on their service?

Pageplus has been problem free for me. The website can occasionally be a pain to deal with when purchasing more minutes is my only complaint. The Dinc was a breeze to port and everything worked without any setup. If you need any info on Pageplus, go to http://www.howardforums.com/ and look up Pageplus. They have lots of info.
I have two Dinc's on Page Plus currently, no problems at all, OTA programming was all that was needed. I've activated a bunch of phones on PP over the years, for myself and for friends, and compared to the hacking you used to have to do on 'feature phones' to get WAP access working, Dincs are super easy. I've also done a few Droid X's and a Droid X2, also with no issues. Currently, newer phones, in addition to being quite expensive, are also 4G, which makes them a pain to activate on PP and usually requires some significant hacking. Definitely do your homework before buying a 4G phone with plans of activating it on PP.
It depends on your plans. If you plan on sticking with Verizon you could go with the Samsung GS3 or the Note 2 (I think Verizon has the Note 2). If large screens aren't your thing you can go with the HTC Incredible 4G or Motorola Razer M.

just switched my GF feature phone on Pageplus Cellular to a Dinc I bought on eBay running CM10.1. happened easier than I expected as I was able to do everything via live chat without holding forever on the phone. text messaging seems to work including notifications. have it on the TNT 1200 plan, lets see if that will work for a month.
