Hi Guys,
So most of you know already: Opera doesn't close after you open it on the TP2. It stays in you memmory and can't be seen in the task manager. Here is a way to make it visible and closeable again.
Only by using the third tweak, the push pages stop working. THe first two are ok to do.
Here are the tweaks:
Opera in Task Manager
Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
There delete Opera9.exe (now it will show in the task manager)
To close opera by pressing the X-button instead of minimizing it follow these steps:
Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
There, create a DWORD with the name Opera9.exe value "1"
If you don't want Opera on the background anymore, you go to "Services" (with for example SKTools) and then you set "PushInternetEngine service" to manual. This will spare you +/- 10 MB of memory. Be aware that the push pages won't work anymore. (unless you start the service manually)
Nice tweak, but I kind of like the X-button only minimizing Opera. Then you can "save" a page (or multiple tabs) and go back a little later.
To exit Opera I always use: Bottom Right Icon > Exit/Close (Dutch: Afsluiten)

Well if I'm richt, using the bottom right icon still only minimizes opera. Doesn't it? And it's still nice to be able to see Opera in the task manager.

Hello,
I'm unsing Shaps Rom 4.30 WWE and I would like to use Opera Mini as my default browser and open it with a hardware button.
Is there any chance to get this to work?
I have no idea how I can start a programm in java manager without starting first the java manager.
If not a hardware button, is there the possibility to make an entry in the start menu for opera mini?
Thanks for help
was wondering the same thing...would like to initiate Opera Mini with one click of the top right 'IE' button as well. i just have it mapped to open Java first.
to allow an icon to show up in "Buttons", just add a link to the exe in the folder /Windows/AppButtons. Then you should be able to select it under settings and launch the app.
If not it's easy enough to create a cab to change the registry and remap the button that way - but you need to know the physical path of the exe.
might be a solution for ya
i mapped opera mini to directly open with my IE hardware button by using total commander, go into \windows\appbuttons then on internet explorer select properties then fully uncheck "read only" and "system" then go to the shortcut tab at the top and replace the path that would previously open internet explorer to the following "\windows\jeodek.exe" -run s1_ then click ok then recheck the "read only" and "system" boxes, and it clicking the IE hardkey will now open opera mini directly, i read this somewhere i dont recall where but i am not taking credit for it in anyway, just relaying what worked for me
Like wise, if you're using Esmertec JBed, you can make an Opera.lnk file with the following in it:
Code:
244#\Windows\jbed.exe -run s0_
And this will create a shortcut that will run Opera Mini directly (assuming it was the first app you installed in JBed, otherwise you may have to adjust to s1_ or s2_ etc...)
Hi,
I am usin a Java intend (tao) instead of emertec which use a different exe.
My path:
27#"\Windows\jmm.exe" -run s0_
But Shortcut only opens Java manager, have to select Operamini icon manualy
Can´t find direct shortcut, pls. help
Found out. This shortcut is working:
68#"\Windows\jmm.exe" -r"Opera Mini","Opera Software ASA","Opera Mini "
Install and use these files to open Mini. You can link the button to open this mortscript also. I found these somewhere else and I don't remember. so don't give me any credit.
One of them gives a menu with Opera Mini or IE to open with. The other just opens mini.
you can also uninstall without problems too.

JZ SmartMort v1.4 Released!
Announcing JZ SmartMort v1.4!
Now you can use JZ SmartMort to make Opera Mini a default system-level browser with ability use other installed browsers side-by-side!
Have a look at the screenshots of JZ SmartMort, available HERE or at SourceForge. Below are the prominent features that the software offers.
Copy / Paste
Clipboard / URL history
Multi-browser (Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, NetFront, Skyfire, Internet Explorer)
Make any installed browser system-level, where it opens links from anywhere. Ability to have a default browser (with a special timeout in case you want to open a link with a non-default browser).
Hardware buttons - supports Pocket PCs & SmartPhones for advanced hardware button mapping.
Opera Mini - shortcut on the Start Menu, different paste & URL handling methods to accommodate different phones.
JBed - create Start Menu shortcuts for any JBed app, run JBed App directly using JZ SmartMort, troubleshoot your JBed installation.
Ability to open synced Mobile Favorites with any browser, process killing and many other interesting features.
Includes general tweaks and hacks which will keep growing
Revisions:
v1.4 *** 2008-07-07
- Created help files.
- Browser: Skyfire fully compatible now, new scan/detection with fail-over paths (if browsers references don't exist in the usual locations like the registry). If default browser timeout is set to zero, the JZ Browser prompt will be bypassed entirely.
- Opera Mini: full-screen, kill JBed option, multiple URL & pasting options.
- Lots of new options for button mapping. All known registry and link file button hacks now integrated to allow virtually any command to be called up. Also provides ability to create a CUSTOM link file from scratch.
- Changed menus to include menu-returns for easy navigation and better user friendliness. Added letters to Action menu as qwerty keyboard shortcuts.
- Phone-specific menu under JZ Settings which expands button mapping for BlackJack II (Samsung i617) CV/MediaNet buttons, as well as, AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser) PTT & Long-PTT buttons. More will be added.
- Creation of Start Menu shortcuts & opening of JBed applications w/o needing to open JBed first.
- 3 different methods under JZ Settings > JZ Misc. Options for opening Favorites. Save a Favorite from the JZ Browser script when you pop a link.
- Incorporated VitoCopyPaste with a timeout to return your directional pad action button back to normal.
- Various speed & optimization considerations incorporated.
- Function to deal with MortScript losing focus (e.g. when Home is pressed while Mort choice menu is running).
I know this is a minor issue but how do you remove an icon that's been duplicated in the Lauch Program list in the TF3D software?
I uninstalled then reinstalled Memory-Map, now I have 2 Pocket Nav icons.

If by "launch program" list you mean the "Programs" tab in TouchFlo 3D, then at bottom right of screen is "remove" (right "softkey") tap that, then tap the icon/shortcut you want to remove, then tap "done" at bottom right.
From the Programs screen, hit All Programs to see the Launch Program screen I'm referring to.
Start > Fileexplorer > Windows > Startmenu > Programs (look here for the Duplicated icons and erase one of them.
Thanks kokkie.
thanks kookie for that two. was about to get annoyed with my phone for same reason. quality phone and site
itsloads easier to do it in activesync on your pc
I have been searching and searching to no avail.
There has got to be some way to remap the "Launch Browser" button on the Manila "Browser" tab to launch the browser program of your choice?
I know I can select Skyfire as my default browser and it will launch with other programs... but I would like that same browser to launch when I push the big button on the Manila tab.
Seriously... there has got to be a way... anyone?
I found where someone else posted this in the HTC Diamond forums in responce to this same question about a year ago. I haven’t had the opportunity to try to confirm this as a work around:
All you need to do is to modify a file named “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” which is located in \Application Data\Manila. Use the freeware application Total Commander to navigate to this file and once you locate it press the pen/paper icon on the bottom of the page and that will open the file on the screen so you can edit it.
Once the file is open in Total Commander just add one of the following lines after the line <InternetPortal> which is towards the top:
Opera is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>\mobile\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
Internet Explorer is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
SkyFire is:
<BrowserExe>\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Iris is:
<BrowserExe>\program files\iris browser\irisbrowser.exe</BrowserExe>
I installed Opera Mobile 9.5 beta to my storage card, so my new path is:
<BrowserExe>\storage card\program files\opera
*Note if you can't save your changes - make sure that the file isn't set on "read only" (click the hand holding the paper icon and uncheck the "read only" box. You may have to click twice to remove the setting)
As I would be looking at going to Skyfire, I’m guessing my path would look something like this: <BrowserExe>\Storage Card\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Again, I haven’t tested this yet (I'm at work), but looking at the information posted in the .xml, it does appear to control/direct what happens when that Launch Browser button is pushed. Whether or not other files also have an effect, and what these changes would effect, are yet unconfirmed (as I saw no replies after that post).
There are however other commands in that .xml file that I'm not sure how they effect things and I would love a second opinion.
you can go into the registry and navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER and change the path in line number 1 to lead to whatever browser that you want to use and then change the name in line number 0...hope this helps!!

I know how to change the "default browser" that other programs (mail, Twitter etc) launch via hyperlink. That's easy.
Setting another browser as the default browser however DOES NOT CHANGE Opera from launching from the "Launch Browser" button on the Browser tab in Manila. I want this button and tab to launch a different browser as well.
Still haven't sat down and tried the method I posted above... but I'll report back if I can get it to work.
I've found this in a few places too... unfortunatly... nither the directory nor the file exist in this version. I even had it searching hidden & system files to no avail. Am looking for alternatives.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548770
Also, here is item 4 from that thread. It appears you can have what ever browser you want to launch from the "Globe". But it does not effect the bookmarks you have set in the Manilla browser tab. I need it to launch these as well in my selected browser. BTW I have done the tweaks here, and can confirm they do work. I have 6 of my own bookmarks on the browser tab. And I got rid of the globe, didn't need it.
But I am still using Opera 9.5. I really want to be able to make this work with the book marks cause once Fenec is released I will be using that instead.
4) Remove the line <BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
This will now launch the lower left Bookmarks and lower right browser in Opera. (this is only possible, if you have already edit the registry in the previous tutorial)
Replacing the tag <BrowserExe>\Window\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe> with <BrowserExe>\Windows\Opera9.exe</BrowserExe> only launches the "Earth" tab in Opera but the tabs will not be launched at all, not even in IE. Don't know why this happens. You can even edit the Banner tag so that it doesn't go to the web2go website by modifying the NavigateUrl to "" or whatever you want

Unfortunately, as I had said in my other post, neither the file referenced nor the path are on my device. It has got to be buried elsewhere. I just need to know where.

You don't mention what device, exactly you have (carrier variant). Or which ROm you have (stock or some cooked version like 6.5)

Are you referring to the "IternetPortal-en-US.xml” file?
I'm looking at it right now on my Verizon CDMA TP2.
As for the other tweak... glad to hear Im on the right track. Cant wait till Im home and can do some file editing on the laptop. I don't use the bookmarks on the Launch Browser page very often, so I feel that I'm very close to having a solution for this issue. Now I just need to arrange the free time to give it a shot.
i am using nsffan's 6.5 rom. When I run TOMTOM, everythings fine, but when I hit the 'end' button to go back to the today screen, there is no sign of the program running anywhere (by this i mean that when i press the top right corner, it shows other programs that are currently running, but Navigator is not there). I then tried going to to Task manager, and it doesn't show it there either. But if I go into file explorer, and click on the link to launch TomTom, it just instantly opens, and was running the whole time! what the heck...
Just to add...TomTom doesn't show up as a progra anywhere (if I bring up list of programs to add to quick menu, EVERYTHING is there, but not TOMTOM. How can I make it an actual program? The only way to open it is to go into the 'navigator' folder in Program files, and then click on the tomtom launcher icon. any ideas????thank you!!!

I'll assume that you are running TT7. There are several different versions out there & two different ways they are installed. 1.There a cab's that install directly to you device. 2. There is also just a folder with the files that you copy to your device. Option number 2 you do have to run the program from the file explorer. You could also create a shortcut of the .exe & copy it to your start menu.
I am not sure what ROM you are using but I don't have the task manager in the upper right corner. If you are using a 6.5 Rom & using the default today screen then there is a small application app you can run. It will add an applications panel.
I can send you the TT7 cab if needed & the app file.
It's simply that Tomtom is minimised. You would see the icon on the main screen if you didn't have Touchflo or Titanium enabled.
I do not see it either in the task manager. It has always been like that for me, no matter if i was on 6.1 or 6.5. Must be a small bug in Tomtom. No real consequence, really!
To end the Tomtom program completely, you must end the program trough Tomtom (3rd page in the main menu).

I always see TomTom in the task manager. It seems that some of the newer 6.5 builds don't have the pull down task manager in the upper right corner on the screen. When I open the task manager from the start menu TomTom is listed.
You are right though without Touchflo, Manilla, or Titanium there would be an icon on the today screen on the lower right corner.
One niggle with this update (which I otherwise do like by the way) is that it comes with the browser set to default to Opera.
This was reasonable in older loads. It isn't any more - the new IE included is IMHO better than Opera.
I went into Internet Explorer and turned on the "default check", started it, and told it to make itself the default browser. That fixed links in text messages, in the Twitter application I use, and in emails.
BUT....
1. The ALT-BROWSER keyboard shortcut still starts Opera.
2. Manila/Sense still starts Opera as well.
The former is a real pain if you're in the browser, someone SMSs you, you read it, and then want to flip back to IE with a couple of keystrokes instead of fobbing the screen. The latter I care less about as I don't usually have that enabled anyway, but it would be nice to be able to fix it.
I looked around in the registry with Total Commander and have had no luck (thus far) finding where the keys are that control this. Does anyone know where the keys are in the registry to fix that?
Opera's "settings" menu DOES NOT have a "set as default" (or unset as default) option - a search here found that as a suggestion, but the claimed option does not exist in the version that is included in T-Mobile's ROM.
Oh, one other note - the icon packs that worked with 6.1 ROMs will not pick up the signal strength with 6.5. This is probably due to a difference in the radio...is there a fix for that one as well?
Thanks in advance.
IE: Check out Message 6 (has a link for an overview of the tweak) or Message 10 (has simplified, detailed steps to do this) of a thread on T-Mobile.
To load a different radio (like the one that initially came with the stock T-Mobile ROM: 3.45.25.14), you need HardSPL, which will void your warranty, but reinstalling stockSPL will "un-void" it.
That got the Manila entry but not the keyboard shortcut, which is the real bummer...

Oh right, I knew I forgot something!
You have the T-Mobile TP2, right? Here's how you do it:
GSM Rhodium Keyboard Controller will let you remapp the hardware keys.
Once installed, go to Start > Settings > System > Keyboard Config > Menu > Add key > [check Combine with FN key] Press the hardware Left Arrow button (that'll map the ALT+Left arrow button, which is the shortcut to the Internet) > Event: Click > Action: Run program > Program: iexplore.exe > OK > Update config.
It should now launch IE via ALT+Left arrow!
That did it - thanks!
