TomTom keeps running in background, but... - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

i am using nsffan's 6.5 rom. When I run TOMTOM, everythings fine, but when I hit the 'end' button to go back to the today screen, there is no sign of the program running anywhere (by this i mean that when i press the top right corner, it shows other programs that are currently running, but Navigator is not there). I then tried going to to Task manager, and it doesn't show it there either. But if I go into file explorer, and click on the link to launch TomTom, it just instantly opens, and was running the whole time! what the heck...
Just to add...TomTom doesn't show up as a progra anywhere (if I bring up list of programs to add to quick menu, EVERYTHING is there, but not TOMTOM. How can I make it an actual program? The only way to open it is to go into the 'navigator' folder in Program files, and then click on the tomtom launcher icon. any ideas????thank you!!!

I'll assume that you are running TT7. There are several different versions out there & two different ways they are installed. 1.There a cab's that install directly to you device. 2. There is also just a folder with the files that you copy to your device. Option number 2 you do have to run the program from the file explorer. You could also create a shortcut of the .exe & copy it to your start menu.
I am not sure what ROM you are using but I don't have the task manager in the upper right corner. If you are using a 6.5 Rom & using the default today screen then there is a small application app you can run. It will add an applications panel.
I can send you the TT7 cab if needed & the app file.

It's simply that Tomtom is minimised. You would see the icon on the main screen if you didn't have Touchflo or Titanium enabled.
I do not see it either in the task manager. It has always been like that for me, no matter if i was on 6.1 or 6.5. Must be a small bug in Tomtom. No real consequence, really!
To end the Tomtom program completely, you must end the program trough Tomtom (3rd page in the main menu).

I always see TomTom in the task manager. It seems that some of the newer 6.5 builds don't have the pull down task manager in the upper right corner on the screen. When I open the task manager from the start menu TomTom is listed.
You are right though without Touchflo, Manilla, or Titanium there would be an icon on the today screen on the lower right corner.

Windows Mobile Start Menu

I was wondering if there was a way to add and remove icon shortcuts for programs in the start menu
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mircosoft\Shell\StartMR U
InitialOrder > Remove links in this key to have all apps in alphabetical order or add links in the order you choose.
@quicksand - i believe that is for the MRU only.. which appears only in the Homescreen..
@casezin - Try to sync your phone, explore, locate /Windows/Start Menu/, and you can add/remove shortcuts/folder there..
There's a StartMRU and a StartMenu. I put the wrong key it it should be
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mircosoft\Shell\StartMenu
order > Remove links in this key to have all apps in alphabetical order or add links in the order you choose.
I apologize for that mixup. What i posted in this post is correct.
By Editing the registry key you can put your apps in any order you like as opposed to having the default apps at the top and user installed apps below those.

windows mobile 6.5 start menu
I have installed an application (to be specifies the application is called mobidiv and it is for language support) on my windows mobile 6.5; however after the installation the start menu is not working anymore! It’s there however it’s is disabled
I had a similar problem with the installed application when I was on windows mobile 6.1; however the problem was with the sms email threading, the application for some reason disabled it.. after searching the web I was able to fix the problem by going into the registry key and enable the sms email threading feature again.
Now, I guess the application has done it again but this time with the start menu, can any one help me with providing the registry key for enabling/disabling the menu button for windows mobile 6.5
Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry but what device are you running wm6.5 on? I don't think anyone with an excalibur is running 6.5!
i dont know what phone or build your using, but mine is an htc touch pro 2 running 6,5 and i absolutly haaate some of the stock apps that come in the start menu
i was playing around on it a few weeks ago and found where the folder is that holds the icons for the menu
you can make new folders while in here, delete shortcuts, and rename them.
heres the folders you need to open:
->start
_->file explorer
(make sure you are on the top level of "my device")
__->windows
(this should be the last file available)
___->start menu
____->programs
once you reach the programs folder you should see an alphabetical list of your folders folowed by an alphabetical list of your app shortcuts, just like you would on any computer.
just hold select and then press delete.
it will ask if your sure, press yes.
if it tells you that a related program might be using this shortcut, it means that you might have either a tab or an icon on your home screen linked to that particular shortcut and you would have to re link that tab or icon to the program or risk loosing it entierly.
hope this helps

i just saw the date of the original post ^ ^;
might be alittle to late to help the original situation but this still works none the less

Creating Shortcuts

I have two programs that I am trying to create a shortcut for. One is GPSToday. The other is Weather Panel. I looked through Windows registry and both program registries using Total Commander. Can't seem to find the .exe that launches either program. The goal is to add both programs to the Quick Launcher tab. Can an executable be created where none exist? Also, can a shortcut be created so that I can launch both programs from the programs menu? Neither program registers in the programs menu.
Sorry, Im still a noob, but ive playin around with making shortcuts & I find that if its Not in windows, the .exe is most likely in \Program Files\ "app name" , or Storage Card\Prog Files\"app name". Placing a link in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs should make it available on the Programs screen(page, launcher, whatever), and also should be on the list of quick launcher apps from the today screen. Not familiar with the ones you mentioned, tho.
Allright, I Knew I saw that somewhere (I check the freeware sites couple times a week). So the version I downloaded suggested installing on the device instead of the storage card.There IS an .exe in there, but clicking it does nothing. Maybe since its a today plugin, there is no launchable exe. ? only at start-up ? There definitely should be another way to run it. Cool app, but screws up all my icons.

Both GPSToday & WeatherPanel are today plugins, not applications. Both must be run from the plugin itself. Sometimes, adding a parameter to the link, which would be a simple text doc name <name>.lnk, can do the trick. But, this is not a simple shortcut you create through a file explorer. Your probably trying to access the map in GPSToday, which I highly doubt is possible. WeatherPanel will only show on your today screen.

HTC Task Manager is all programs?

Hi Guys, I'd like to have the HTC task manager in the top right of every program (except full screen obviously) in place of the "X". If I want to exit a program, I usually press the hardware "ok" button and keep it running in the background for fast loading later and keep an eye on memory usage with the top right menu. Is it possible to have the task manager always on in place of the cross?
Yes, that would be great. I did not find anything to get what we want, so far.
As a workaround, I used WkTask (http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) which works well, and allows to switch easily from one running program to the other.
Waiting for a better solution, hope that this helps.

Best program iv found by a long way is Showcase. Works like a charm and looks pretty!
SPB Pocket Plus and SBSH both do as you ask... but the come at a premium
pbar works for me. "pBar is able to override the behaviour of the "X" button just like other task managers. In addition, there are a couple of handy shortcuts found on the popup menu. You can even add shortcuts of a couple ..."

TF3D Start Menu customization

I've had my TP2 for a few days and have seemed to run into a wall when attempting to modify the "Start" page.
It's pretty easy to remove and add programs, but how do you do things like rearrange them or add submenus??
Thanks,
F
install ActiveSyn,then connect your pro2 and pc.
in pc enable show all hiden folders,then in ActiveSync go to pro2 folder
\windows\"start up"menu\programs
you can delete unwanted program shortcuts. maybe you can creat new folders or subfolders to cut program shortcuts in them,i didnt try.
concerning rearrnagment of icons,i dont think there is a way,what i know is you can only move icons in bottom to top.
go to start up menu in your pro2,touch on any program icon for about 3 seconds,one window will come up,it says "move to top"

Today screen items

I have been searching for 3 hours, Can't find the answer...
I am running the stock AT&T/HTC rom. I want 1 Today screen that has everything on it that I use frequently: apps, contacts, calculator, etc.
I was using SPB mobile shell, but my "running tasks" icon (in upper right corner) disappeared & I could never figure out how to get it back.
I uninstalled SPB MS and I am back to the stock shell (and my "running tasks" icon is back)...I went to Today settings and unchecked TF3D because I don't want to scroll thru a bunch of pages, I just want all my frequently used items in one place, the today screen. This setup worked perfectly on my Kaiser using SPB Pocket PC. But, I wanted the much bigger screen that Tilt 2 offers.
Anyway, after unchecking TF3D on the today settings...my home screen is blank and when I go back to Today Settings, Items...there are only a few things I can add...like date, calendar, owner info. How can I add shortcuts for apps and games I have installed? I know the Today screen is unchangeable when you are running touchflo but I have disabled it. I tried a soft reset, that didn't change anything...the Windows default isn't any better of an alternative...pls help! I have tried wording my search 20 different ways and I cannot find the answer. THANK YOU!

SPB makes another great solution that will do exactly what you're looking for, it adds all that type of functionality to the stock WM home screen without using any shell interfaces or losing your task manager. It's called SPB Pocket Plus, and details are here.
thanks, I didn't want to use that program because it says its only compatible up to WM 6.0 (and my phone uses WM 6.5)...but I installed it and it works great...w/full screen functionality...was worried about that. THANK YOU!!!

Glad it worked! I swore by that program back when I had WM 5.1 on my Wizard, and it still works great on the latest versions even though few people stay with the stock start page anymore
