No Deepfish? Try minimo instead...

Like many others, I was too late for the Deepfish beta (got the cab, couldn't activate)
Came across this little item on a news article and am about to install onto my shiny black ROM. Says for WM5, but will give it a shot anyway:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
Anyone else got this/ssen this?
Paul
Tried it, more like Mini-slow.
erm - you know what, you're right.
What a pile of poo - google wouldn't even load properly!
I used opera, but it wasn't too much better.
Now I've got PIE plus from www.reensoft.com. lets you do tabbed browsing and more.
I agree
I've tried every single browser out there. Minimo is by far the slowest with loading. I didn't even try out all of its functionality because I couldn't handle how slow it was going. One nice option is the beta version from Opera. Right now you can download it without any limitation on the time you can use for and it's free. Give it a shot. I guarantee that you will like it more than Minimo.
Try this overview of everything that can view a webpage for Windows Mobile.
The Opera 8.65 beta expires on June 1st.
I think the opera beta plays on for existing users.
picsel browser
I have just starting using Picsel Browser which has been extracted into a cab file from a samsung win mob 5 phone and is floating around on the internet (i had to brave howardforums to get it). I think its excellent, has the same graphical premise as deepfish, but with plenty of other features.
Also make sure you don't miss my UPDATED Web Browsing Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301009 ); now, it also contains a Picsel review!

LOL... No ****.
memory eating
Is it just me or is minimo somewhat memory heavy?

Any other Browser for the Hermes?

Are there any other browsers beside P.I.E. and Opera mini out there? I hate these 2 browsers! Please, any help would be appreciated.
Netfront, Opera for PPC (not mini) for example
Netfront is decent
you could get P.I. plus(an add-on for P.I.E), but it costs after 14 days
I've attached cab's of both
i found nokia's browser (optimized opera) on my e61 (same as n95, n93 etc.) the best, especially its minimap...alas it works only on symbian based phones
netfront
netfront....
link in rapidshare
(couldn't attach for some reason)

Minimo
Try Minimo. It can be a tad slow to open tabs, but it renders far quicker than PIE. FYI, Minimo is a port of Mozilla Firefox for WM5/6. Strangely, I haven't seen it mentioned here before.

Thanks that minimo browser is what i was looking for a java enabled browser the interface is kind of funny though but im trying to understand it.
I was about to post a similar message today. I just upgraded to the Vp3G WM6 Rom and finding that Opera mini doesn't work as well as it did on WM5 (I've tried both the 3.1 and beta 4 versions and they both act buggy and slower).
I've never liked PIE and I even downloaded the beta version of their Deepfish browser which is slow and doesn't zoom well.
I've used Piscel browser, which is great for zooming but not really for browsing quickly, plus I'm getting the memory full error too often.
I have the Opera 6.5 full mobile browser, but it's slow too. The plus is that that one will let you download stuff (such as megaupload files, etc)
I'll try the Mozilla one, but it doesn't seem too great.
The NetFront one is slow too and zooming isn't very user friendly.
I guess I'll have to wait til Opera gets their act together on the real release of the next mini, unless there's something else out there. Opera mini, IMO, is hands down has been the best mobile browser out there so far, but I wish it wasn't so buggy running on WM6.

NetFront Browser v3.5 for Windows Mobile Concept Version

This is a beta of the new browser from netfront. It lets you use touch movements. Kinda like Safari for the iphone. here is the linkhttp://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/browser/35_wm_tp.html
I am loving so far.
Enjoy
Was released quite some time ago. Yes, its better than any other browser including opera.
I even wrote a video review here.

I think the whole company is dead - or gone to a totally different distribution model. Can still download 3.5 concept version, but nothing else.
Can't find any commercial versions to buy anywhere on the web, either.
They seem to have gone into partnership with NTT and only make for OEMs now, mainly Linux OS's. Real shame if we can't get a WM5/6 version. It's the best browser out there at the moment with some great functionality.
If only the concept version had plug-ins enabled then I could live with that version. 3.4 was also great until 29 Feb when it's timebomb activated.
I now see that Opera 9 was actually better. Only bad thing is that, at the moment there is only a VGA version. Works awesome on Athena. Since there is 128 MB RAM in Athena, I can't really comment on anything about Opera's memory usage. Maybe I'll try having a deeper look at it sometime later. Opera will win ofcourse.
HTC has chosen Opera too. Their new Diamond is supposed to have a customized version of Opera 9 in ROM! Awesome
Regards,
Carty..
I'm using this browser also but unfortunately I can't say it's a great one.
my browser detail: v3.5. BuildNo: 435. Beta version: No
anybody need the cab installer of it?
Sure, if it's different than what's on their website.

ACCESS new Browser 20 times faster in javascript

http://www.gsmarena.com/access_unveils_netfront_v40_with_20x_faster_javascript-news-1383.php
ACCESS have just came up with a new version of their multi-platform NetFront web-browser. The latest NetFront Browser v4.0 is said to be the most advanced, versatile and powerful full Internet browser for mobile devices
............................ACCESS NetFront v4.0 will be compatible with most platforms currently available on the market, including BREW, Android, Symbian S60, Windows Mobile etc. The supported CPUs include ARM, Xscale, StrongARM, PowerPC, MIPS, SH-Mobile and others.
Currently the only publicly available version is the WinMo-compatible Concept Version and it only works on WinMo 6.1 and earlier devices. We guess we will have to wait a little longer before we get a chance to try it out ourselves.

Short NetFront 4 Review “Don’t Bother”
The new Netfront browser that was recently released in a beta, is far from what it promised. The new browser that was supposedly “faster, smoother, better finger friendliness” just plan sucks. The software is a beta and I should be a little more lenient with it, but so far after I have used it, I have come to a hast conclusion that its slow, crashes, not even finger friendly. If you were thinking about getting this new browser, this is just a warning, the browser at this point is not worth the program memory or my phones memory, maybe when it leaves beta it will be better, but my hopes are not too high for it at this point.

Very misleading title, just for clearity: this is only 20 times faster in javascript

WebGl on internet explorer RT

Hello guy,
I have a question,
Do you think i.e10 on rt will support WebGl in a future?????. I don't even know if the system will be compatible with windows rt. I think, it is important for the future, i guess.
I tried the new google maps but it really sloooooooww. Maybe it's quicker on nexus 7 android, its the same cpu/gpu!! Don't know if it's running well on nexus.
What do you think???
Thank you .
At the moment RT doesn't support OpenGl or OpenGl ES. WebGL relies on OpenGL ES.
However. The windows 8.1 previews seem to have a few debug stubs for WebGL in internet explorer 11 so there is hope.

Humm ok thanks for the answers. Do you think, it's an important things to have webgl??
WebGL exposes OpenGL.
Microsoft's alternative to OpenGL is called DirectX.
DirectX was exposed via Internet Explorer since forever (via the infamous DXfilters and ActiveX controls).
The reason why is because back then it did things that HTML was incapable of doing.
IE in their latest release *dropped* support because html is now *going* to be capable (html5, css3).
Also, this approach opened the browser to all kinds of attacks and we are all glad it is dropped.
Other browsers in their latest releases *embrase* this webgl approach.
The reason why is because html again is incapable of doing 3d and other fancy stuff (I oversimplify things I know, dont flame me).
This approach (webgl) still opens the browser to all kinds of attacks. (ms has expressed conserns and they are right)
So, Is WebGL important?
IE did what webgl does and dropped support. So no. BUT:
Unfortunatelly, the big brother (google) wants us to use the browser for everything, even gaming.
Also, IE is untested by most developers. IE is doomed to make their rendering work perfectly because people need a small excuse to start flaming again.
Because of the above facts, I believe IE is doomed to make webGL available somehow.
Some time in the future, html will be capable again and these workarounds will be probably dropped. Until then, webgl enabled browsers will be unsecure.
(Personal opinion)
PS: Other funny fact: IE had addins like forever. Now the most used excuse for anti-IE is that it does not have addins. Despite that, MS discourages addins because of security concerns (Metro IE does not have them). I personally believe they are right for thisone too.
ActiveX saw little use because it was vulnerable (more so than webgl which although is a security concern, isn't the largest one ever) and proprietary. It only worked in IE which at the time was god awful.
Modern html accomplishes its fancy 3d effects via webgl.... Or the much slower html5 canvas which has pretty poor performance (and is likely the reason that maps is slow on rt, I believe it fallbacks on standard html5 whereas on the nexus it can be hardware accelerated via webgl).
Ok guys. Thanks you for the explanations, i really appreciate. it's really war between all this standard.
Afaik IE11 will support WebGL.
