How quickly can one upgrade within contract, in your experience?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi Folks,
With ever more capable mobiles coming out at an ever increasing rate it seems highly relevant not to be locked into an old phone for a long time. With the TP2 the contract times seem to be between 18 and 24 months. However in your experience how quickly can one upgrade to a newer phone?
I would also welcome views on different network flexibility to this. I am UK based.
Thanks,
Sam

I've just left T-Mobile, had a business contract with them with 6 phones.
They were great to start with but have got progressively worse.
Here are a few of the issues I've had with them:
1. I changed my company bank account, had the direct debit transferred. T-Mobile got the change of details instruction and processed it as a cancellation instruction, cut us off, no notification after just a couple of weeks of non-payment which shouldn't have happened if they had got it right in the first place.
2. One handset broke, was covered by warranty, T-Mobile had no stock and refused to provide any replacement device.
3. I added a couple of the phones a little later on, sales didn't tell me a full 24 month term would apply to the new handsets, until I tried to cancel them, which was nice of them.
4. Business customer service now takes forever to answer your call, regularly on hold for 15+ minutes, compared with < 1 minute a year ago.
I seriously doubt you will have any chance of an early upgrade with T-Mobile, they are worse than useless. I can only imagine how bad it is for personal contract customers with the support being in India!
I believe Orange offer an early upgrade option, however no recent experience with them as I've had issues with them in the past.
I think O2 possibly do as well, friend of mine said they were upgrading his iPhone to the 3GS within the contract, but he has to pay for it (not sure how much though).
Vodafone, no idea what they offer, only been with them a week.
Any other network, I think it's safe to say leave well alone!

Philio, Thanks...
So basically it comes down to the "Upgrade Policy". I am with Orange and will either stay with them or go to VF, although I am very tempted to go to VF due to their good current package on the TP2.
Interesting to hear about TM.
Sam

Personally I think TM coverage is worse than it used to be as well.
I used to be able to get the train into London (from Kent) and sit online the entire way on my laptop, last time I did it, I was cut off repeatedly!

Saw your post on the VF forum too btw, I'll be keeping an eye on that, also curious as to their upgrade policy!

Had an interesting call with T-Mobile today, spoke to them again about trying to get the broken N95 handset replaced.
Now they are telling me it's discontinued (I had asked them if this was the case in previous conversations considering it's been superseded by the N96 and now the N97).
Long story short... No replacement can be offered as discontinued, they do not offer like for like replacement (e.g. N96) whatsoever, their useless insurance company will not replace without sending the phone off to be tested repair attempted. They are happy to provide a new handset on a new 24 month contract though!
Useless company, stay away.

currently the only way to upgrade within contract is via phones4u. they will buy out the remainder of your contract depending how many months is left and provide you with a new line and new phone. i have know them to buy out contracts with 9 months left! not bad at all. there are rules in place where you can downgrade your tariff after so many months. i think its 9 months on a 12 month contarct, 11 months on a 18 month contract and 16 months on a 24 month contarct. this is service provider dependant as i am sure tmobile allows you to downgrade after 11 months.

Interesting about phone4u
So far I have found Orange and VF allow an upgrade after 21 months in 24 month contract.

Orange UK Release Date?

Orange UK seem to be doing what they are best at.
Every time I speak to someone from Orange (once a week for the last 6 weeks) to find out if the Touch Pro 2 has been released I get a different answer.
Back on the 26th May I spoke to someone who had a look and said that the phone was still on the "coming soon" list. He had a look else where and found that the phone was listed to be first released as a SBC (Small Business Customer) phone and then a little later for none business users. He had no date but said it should be early to mid June.
Yesterday I was told there is still no date, but it should be released mid to late June. The guy at orange started to explain how to go about through a 3rd party to get the upgrade but then I lost my signal. I rang back and was then told that the phone would definatly not be out with in the next 4 weeks.
Today I rang up and was told that there is no date listed, but the phone is still just "coming soon". I said about the person from yesturday, but the lady has no idea why I was told a definate no for the next 4 weeks as it could come out tomorrow, 2 weeks, 4 weeks or not at all. I also asked about the phone first being available to business customers and was told that there is no mention about the phone being a business phone and the release would be wide spread across the whole of orange UK. The lady has also put me on a ring back service, will check daily to see if the phone had been released and let me know if it has... While I have no reason to dis-believe this, I dont hold much hope.
I have rang around, but cant find a phone dealer that can do an upgrade for me with the Touch Pro 2
Little to say, I am getting a bit tired of all the different answers I get.
When I got my Tytn 2 from orange it was only listed as a business phone and I think the Touch Pro 2 will probably be the same way
Does any one here have any more information or shed any light on the release of the phone as an orange branded handset, be it for business or none business use.
Firstly I'll say that their ring-back service worked for me. This was back when the TyTN2 was released. They sent me a text on the day it became available telling me to call them, which I did instantly. The next day I had the phone in my hands. So have some faith.
However, the wait may be long, or short.
I used to be on Orange (having been a VERY loyal, high spending customer) for many years, but I have since become very cheesed off with their outdated tariffs and delays bringing phones to the market.
I have now switched to Vodafone, and while I don't get anywhere near as good signal strength, they provide a decent enough service for me.
I am sad I had to move away from orange, but it's too little too late.
See, I like Orange's service and the service plan I am on is very good value for money and they consider me somewhat of a 'loyal customer'.
I am in exactly the same boat as you, I've been speaking to different people and it's gone from 'within 2 weeks' (this was mid may I was told this) to the phone not being listed on the system, to the Diamond2 being released?
It seems the HD is out of stock and I had been told that it was being discontinued and replaced by another handset. Some reps have told me that it was Touch Pro2 and some have told me they do not know.
I've just been emailing Orange (they have this irritating habit where you hit the reply button and a different person replies) all of them told me it was only going to be released on Business, but like another person in this thread I also have a TyTn II on a personal account.
This morning the Touch HD was taken off the website! So I'm going to keep playing it from the angle of 'What phone is going to replace the HD on the personal account' and 'I want a Windows Mobile phone with a keyboard because I can't stand purely touch screen phones!
I really really want to keep my contract and just get an Orange branded Pro2
Just spoke to them on the phone about the HD disappearing off the website. Apparently they're looking at replacing it with the Touch Diamond2 and when I said does that have a keyboard? He said no it doesn't but the Touch Pro2 does (in a hesistant voice).
I went on to ask whether that would be available for me to upgrade to as a personal user and he said yes it should be, but there is no indication of price yet as it's too early on.
I'm sure the next person I speak too, will tell me otherwise...
The Orange tariffs seem to suit me quite well... There might be a better tariff for me somewhere, but at the moment my monthly bill only usually differs pennies each month and i can really hammer the phone some months.
When I asked about the upgrade price about a month I go I was told that I would probably get the phone for free being that I am a long time loyal high value none business customer (have been on one of the top tariffs now for 6 or 7 years).
Infact when I got the tytn2 (which was only available for business customers at the time), Orange actually credited my account with £100 for me to stay and take the the phone off their hands.
I guess only time will tell with the rhodium
I just wish that Orange would be a bit quicker at releasing new phones.
Out of interest, I wonder if Orange list the rhodium as having an inbuilt GPS receiver. Orange seem to insist that the rhodium does not have a GPS, although it does have an FM radio :S Come to think about it, they also insisted that the tytn2 didnt have a GPS either when I upgraded to that
I got another response today from someone that seemed a bit more human.
Hello
Thank you for your email into the Orange shop.
I have checked the website and we have 2 HTC phones on sale.

I'm reckoning I might get it for free, although I haven't been as long term as you with Orange, I just want them to list it as coming soon! It's driving me mad, I can be so impatient with stuff like this sometimes haha.
For orange France it's not planned yet...
I wait because I want to by it with mobile contract at less price than unbranded...

Yup +1 that.... Orange are in danger of loosing out if they wait much longer- Hmm Xperia X2 anyone?
I've had our company phones with Orange for over 10 years, but have just switched to Vodafone. We save around £500 per month (20 Touch Pro and Pro 2 all free), have all data included in the plan plus managed services with antivirus, firewall etc and the cuistomer service people I speak with are much more responsive than Orange. No problems with connectivity. The choice of handset and talk / data plans is far better than Orange and in the 3 months we've been with Vodafone I have experienced no probs whatsoever.

See, I've been provided a fabulous service with Orange. My price plan is very cheap and I get a lot for my money. I'm on the £8 a month internet bundle which apparently is limited to 500mb or whatever but I usually use over a gig a month and never get charged.
I'm going to wait it out, I just up hope some new information crops up in the next week. They'd be able to release it if Orange didn't bog down the phone with so much crap!

Not helpful sorry, but if its any consolation, I am getting the same run around from o2. Least with Orange, they have to keep releasing the 'business' class devices. o2 (I think) are going to limit the new devices to push people towards the iphone (sorry for swearing) or blackberry. Neither of which I personally want.
I just spoke with Orange business Sales
They say it should be available to first for Business Sales than Upgrades,
It will be available after the end of the 19th of July

Was that meant to say 'then' rather than 'than'? I'm really hoping that you mean will be available for new contracts after the 19th of July as apposed to starting the release then...
Orange have updated their coming soon page on the consumer site.... no sign of TP2 yet
However I've been diligently checking the page for the past few months (I know, i know...) and updates seem to take place around 14-16th of each month.
Hoping that this darn phone turns up soon.

Haha, I've been doing this too. I may as well have it as my homepage.. They have definitely updated the Coming Soon list at least twice this month (including today) so I don't think your theory is entirely true.
Come on Orange! My contract expires this week!
Just spoken with Orange and the phone is currently in testing and it there will only be limited number handset to start off with for Business Account holders .
Imagine Orange are fecking up software as we speak
Orange is busy with the Iphone 3GS in pre-ordering and nothing for the TP2...

They're releasing the iPhone 3Gs? I didn't know O2 weren't keeping it exclusively anymore.
Orange updated their coming soon list! No TP2 though
Just got off the phone with Orange.
Apparently it's 'limited stock' at the moment and that the update on their server today said that they were in testing mode. If it pasts tests then it will be given to business customers in limited stock, then if it is popular they'll release it to personal customers.
What was interesting, was that he said if an Orange shop stocks the phone, they might be a to give to you on a personal contract as 'they have more leeway than the telesales'.
Sigh, the wait carries on...
ORANGE now sell the TP2

Cant get my HTC Desire :-(

I hate T-Mobile!!!!! Well I love them up until now.
Theytold me when I renewed my contract over a week ago that the HTC Desire was in high demand and it would take 10 days to deliver! Ok not a problem they are now telling me though they have no idea when they will be able to get it to me and advised me to phone my local store (as I deal with the contact center). My local store is refusing to answer the phone and I have tried T-Mobile stores all across the county and they all have massive waiting lists and not accepting any more names :-(
They also said they would buy from Carphone Warehouse but none of their stores are answering the phones......
My last attempt one of the suppliers my company deals with on a weekly basis have 5 HTC Desires sitting in the warehouse ready for purchase but T-Mobile are refusing to let me get it from there! I can't afford to buy it myself and I don't see any harm in them buying it from there for me. They gave me the reason that each supplier gets a different price for it so I replied with well I will pay the difference (wouldnt be alot surely) but then they changed their story saying we are not allowed to purchase from companies that are not T-Mobile Accredited!!!!
This is winding me up now. Its my birthday tomorrow and I really want my new phone but I can't afford to buy one myself!!!!!
Sorry just having a rant. Anyone here work for a T-Mobile store and can get me one on my contract?
Man that sucks. I don't think its just t mobiles fault. Htc are having a mere getting hold of the AMOLED screens, as the manufacturers (samsung) are keeping them to themselves for their galaxy s phones. (and are probably enjoying having their main rival in the android handset market over a barrel.)
Could be some time for htc to get the phone altered to use the SLCD screens. Google amoled + htc + samsung for a better explanation than mine!
In the mean time, what is t mobiles "cooling off period" for sending a handset back after it being supplied? You could use this opportunity to try out the competition, and send the thing back before the dead line and try something else!
Make enough of a nuisance of yourself and you may move up the priority list!
Who knows, you may end up liking either a sony x10 or a galaxy s. If I could not have a desire, I'd lean towards the galaxy s.

That's a bit out of order from Samsung, if they had an agreement they have to fulfill it with HTC...
Well when my Desire stopped vibrating I called up T-Mobile (This was within the first week of release) and the rep told me they had around 900 Desires in that morning and by 16:46 the same day they had 54 left. I got number 52 as two had been sold whilst I was explaining my problem. That was in April.
So either the phone is much more popular than I thought and HTC can't make them quick enough (which is likely due to AMOLED shortages) or they didn't expect such a high demand after the initial early adopter phase (First month).
Sounds like you are not making enough fuss to customer services!
I phoned orange up a couple of months ago as I was getting the same stuff.
First they said they were in stock and I could have a really decent contract with free phone!!!, but... literally phoned about 20 mins later to make an order and it had changed to 300 mins less and £50 for the phone! and the best part was they said stock would be another 2 weeks to a month and I can't go on the waiting list as it's full!
Pissed off, I decided to go to high street stores to get a more expensive contract and alas, no-one had any and if they did I was told that the tariff I was on would mean I would have to pay £75 for the phone!!!
So I got home, got myself in a strop and phoned orange to complain, funny enough they added me to the list (before it was full), they said when the phone was in stock they would text me and as soon as the text came through I needed to call them straight away as it was first come first serve after the text was received.
Patiently waiting (not) I decided to call the next day to find out whether it had come in, they said yes and were sending the texts out to everyone now, with 6000 odd people on the list I didn't fancy my chances!
Somehow while trying to get them to haggle on the contract (cancellations dept) which they did in the end - gave me a great contract, god opened up the heavens and I got my text whilst on the phone, the lady sounded like she didn't believe but I gave her the code and she said congrats and that I could reserve a black one!!
The next day there is my shiny new Desire on my doorstep!!!
The End... lol
they seem to have it in stock on the t-mob website:

Judging by reports, galaxy s is the best sold phone in South Korea ever since it was released, and it surpased Iphone in sale numbers around the world. Samsung is planning to sell 10 million pieces of this phone...
T-Mobile and their stores are getting regular deliveries but because there is such a backlog they go before they even reach the shelf!
I spent the whole day on the phone to T-mobile yesterday they were phoning around all the stores in the county as well as Carephone Warehouse (who none of their stores were answering)
There was stock at one of our local suppliers but T-Mobile refused to purchase from there.
I finally late yesterday managed to get hold of Carphone Warehouse local to me who told me they had sold 10 that day and there was 1 left so I told them to hide that phone and keep it for me and went down there after work and collected so I finally have my Desire
T-Mobile did lie though and said it would be free but I had to pay another £30 to get it :-( - Better than waiting for months though
By the way I don't like the Samsung's
Not a device for me
Good news. You'll love this phone. Give the battery a few charge cycles before expecting to see it's full performance tho. Its worrying at first!

You should have switched to another network
Well wr8_utd, There is that option but using the points below you can see why I dont:
> o2 - Had very poor experiences and hate them - My company used them as well when I fist joined and nothing but problems
> Orange - Poor to no signal in my local area
> 3 - Heard lots of problems about them
> Small dealers like Tesco - Can't offer me what I want
> Virgin - My dads on it and he doesn't get a signal anywhere! No point in having a mobile
> Vodafone - Possibly a viable option - Who my company is currently with and apart from two months having a bill around £6,000 for one handset they have been good.
> T-Mobile - I have been a very loyal customer for I think it must be about 6 years now (back when they were 1-to-1?) That gives me negotiation points
> T-Mobile - I have brought many customers to them over the last few years through my account - again adding to my negotiation powers
> T-Mobile - Always offer me exactly what I want (even when they don't have a contract that offers exactly what I want) - For instance When I wanted the HD2 to get it free their cheapest contract was £40 per month. I told them I wanted that phone for free but only pay £30 per month + wanted unlimited internet but I was happy to juggle min and texts with them and they were happy to comply
> T-Mobile - One of the best Customer Support Centres I have ever experienced. apart from one or two prats over there who don't know what they are talking about they are normally very kind / generaly know what they are talking about / normally answer quite quickly (until recently but select that you are leaving them and they answer very quickly )
> For what I am on every other network seems to charge me more
> HTC Desire - Seems out of stock with every network...
Now you can see my logic behind sticking with them.
Hehe yeah I can see why now
Is it out of stock at stores as well now?
Oh and how is the 3 Network?
As I said above I haven't personally used the 3 network but I haven't heard a single good word about it, its all been bad so I am not tempted to go near them.
All the T-mobile stores have massive waiting lists, Online shops all over the place say out of stock. All my suppliers at work apart from one our out of stock (even the mobile specialists suppliers are out of it) So I imagine its the same all round. The trick is to keep trying every day I was lucky, Our local carephone warehouse received stock in the morning I was ringing them all day but they were under staffed and too busy to answer the call. Finally got through to them abour 2pm and they had one left which they hid away and reserved for me
Nothing wrong with 3 UK service is improved from their call centre and shops are fab .. good deals as well plus the bombed all other companies out of the water £349.99 for unlocked unbranded desire when they first came out
Give em a go oh and very few two year contracts most eighteen months
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Oh forgot to add they were poor at beginning when they first started hence poor reports but honest they are probably on of the best now (just get unbranded handset if you do their firmware updates are the only issue )
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
2 other option is
1) Get them to buy a nexus one for you and flash it
2) Get a wildfire
I intend to get one of the 3 Desire deals and unlock it. Will I have any issues after I unlock it?
meteor
i had problems getting my desire too, it was meteor in ireland i vent to 3 shops and they said they don't have them in stock and the third shop guy said they dont have it and he offered legend instead but some miracle happened when i said no he went to check stock second time and he brought phone over, they are acting strange ..
i hate t-mobile i have been with them over 8 years and they still treat me like S**T i only stay with them as its cheapest option but there like virgin terrible Cusomer support but as long as you never have to deal with them its mostly good. i personally went and got a desire off ebay 280 new, and a £10 pay monthly sim which was cheapest option and didnt tie me into a long contract which i hate especially with a company i dont like lol. mind you all phone companies need a slap for using the word unlimited to mean limited how much more proof do you need the benter then a 50p note.

Moving to UK and need to Buy the Desire

For someone just moving to the UK is it possible to buy a phone on contract?
Apparently some sites say you need a 3 year address proof before you can sign a contract? Is it not possible for some one who has just moved to the UK to work to get a phone on contract? Really want the Desire
There must be a way to as a lot of people come over to work. Surely they don't wait three years!
The way contracts work over here is you will need proof of identity and a utility bill with your current UK address.
If you lived within europe for the last three years then I beleieve you will be ok however if not then you should still be able to get a contract but they wont provide you with a phone for a certain amount of time.
My GF when we went to take her out a contract at the age of 18 because she had no credit history they would give her a contract but no phone even though she had been here 18 years! So in the end did it in my name.
Best bet is to phone up and ask around te providers see what they say. You might even have better luck doing a contract in store (will need photo proof)
Good luck getting the Desire though it seems this country is sold out of it I spent the whole day trying to source one (signed my contract over a week ago and T-mobile told me today they have no idea when they will be able to get one)
Stores all around my county had waiting lists of 20+ and refused to put me down as their lists where to big. After alot of searching (and arguing with T-Mobile because they wouldnt order from two places that had stock) I finally managed to get mine and went and picked it up this afternoon (after they conned me to paying another £30 for the phone!)
Good Luck
Can't you even get one SIM-Free? If you can afford it, obviously

Dam they made you pay a lot!
And thanks a lot
Sim Free would be quite expensive sadly for now.
This person who would be moving there would be working with a law firm and they would provide proof of employment and with his Annual salary and contract length specified and plus he would have enough money in his account so he should pass the credit check right?
I just moved from South Africa to the UK... three weeks ago. Walked into O2 last week and walked out with a Desire on contract. No problem. All u need is a bank account and debit card.

What all did they need? They din't check your 3 years address proof? And as for credit check what did they see?
What you may want to look into mate is buying a PAYG HTC Desire i got my O2 one for £330 then get a simplicty sim.
From O2 at the moment I think they do 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet and your not tied to the contract its like rolling every 30 days. You ring them and cancel when you want to.
Won't let me post links yet but go to O2 then tariffs and Sim only Simplicty.
Also the website doesn't show the desire on PAYG but it is available in the shops.
Hmm but buying it for 330 is rather expensive right now. He'd rather take it up on contract. Thanks though
You may be able to do a full contract it all depends on what they decide its their discression. I just didn't have to provide 3 year proof of address nor did my finacee but because she had just turned 18 and didn't have a credit history like I said they told her she would have to be on contract for 6 months before they gave her a phone so I did it in my name for her.
I bought my first phone on a contract in the UK 1 week after I got here.
I bought it online, and I didn't have to provide anything... and when they asked on the form online for how long I have been living at the address I was renting, I said more than 12 months (as instructed by one of the indian online chat asistants ) ).
Actually I signed up to a £15/month contract for the phone (and got a free Nokia 6500slide) and also a 50% discounted £7.5 mobile broadband contract, so 2 separate contracts.
They called me the next day and said my credit checks are OK for the broadband contract but for the phone I had to pay a £75 guarantee which I will get back after the first 6 months of the contract... payed over the phone, everything came the next day, and that was it... (this happened in September 2008)
It was with Three.co.uk - but I won't recommend them because their coverage sucks if you come in the South-West around Swindon... The London area, Birmingham area are ok though... didn't use their network anywhere else in the UK...

Oh. Thanks a lot
Hmm he can lie about living for more than 12 months I guess.
Will this work with other places like mobiles.co.uk? And what if he goes to a Carphone Warehouse shop.
From what I've read at various places the address should be not much of an issue. So hopefully he can get his phone.
If he does take the phone in the name of a relative then can he do something so that he's paying out of his own account?
You can't lie about how long you have been living at a certain place because they are likley to run a check and it is illegal.
And no generally the money has to be taken out of the account with the same name as the contract or a joint account with that persons name on it.
Try going directly for a contract in his own name with phone they may give it to him.
I got my Desire two weeks after my 18th birthday. No credit check required as far as I know. I did order online though. I haven't missed a payment yet XD. So I guess my credit score should be going through the roof!
Just because you haven't missed a payment on one contract doesn't make you credit rating go through the roof sadly. its also based on sex / age / location (if the rest of your street have bad credit ratings then that makes your bad as well)
Very unfair if you ask me....
And they would of performed a check if they are providing a phone on contract but they don't always tell you - not sure if they tell you when ordering online as I have never done that - but they still will do the check.

Yeah that is what we want. He'll have all his address proof, employment proof and a ready bank account so hopefully he won't have any problem with it.
Is Vodafone's service good?
Vodafone are ok. We have them here at our company with about 100 mobiles and they are known for being the best coverage in the UK but in all honesty I would say my T-Mobile phone has better coverage then the Vodafone's we have here at work but they aren't bad.
Had a couple of problems with Customer Service in the last 4 months but they got resovled in a okish amount of time.
Hmm
That 30 pounds a month plan with the Booster seems decent.
Would I be able to get it at the Carphone Warehouse store though? Going online would take time and he needs to get his phone within 2 weeks.

Anyone else patient enough to wait until after general release?

Or is it just me?
Now don't get me wrong, as I've been waiting for a decent upgrade option since my trusty HD2 and would love the phone on the release date because my HD2 is very close to dying and my stupid new workplace haven't sorted me out with a phone despite me being there for nearly 2 months now (a massive and very well-known global IT company, believe it or not!).
But when I called Vodafone, my current network (yes, that's right "network", not "carrier" - I'm not American!) to try to get the phone on a cheaper deal (read "free" for £30 a month for 18 months), they said they couldn't be flexible on any of the tariffs on pre-orders. So I have the wait. I don't mind, but what really winds me up is the angst in this forum: "oh no, mine won't be delivered til 11th April!" Yes? And?
Well if you pre ordered a phone which costs about 800 pound in total on an average contract and the release day is the 5th and some are delievering then, and others on the 11th. I can see their point.

I think if the phone had already been released and you had to wait 6 days for it then they might have a point. For pre-orders, not so much as HTC have, as far as I'm aware, never specified a release date.
I take it you're one of those who has to wait?

Yes they can, but you need to speak to retentions and not upgrades
Just do what I do and go through phones4u or similar 3rd party company for your upgrade. Orange, who I've been with for 6 years will not budge on upgrades for me, despite me being on their highest banding, so I upgrade thru phones4u now who will sell you the contract and (usually unlocked and unbranded phone) for a lot less than the stupidly strict network providers. I got the One X on an 18 month contract, 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 750mb internet for only 28.50 a month and they have thrown in the medialink for free too. Give them a try

same problem... whats really bugs me is that I don't know when or how much will it be when it hits the markets in my country
I`ll be a month behind everyone....due an upgrade on May 6th.At least by then the devs should be in full swing
tough question, simple answer.. will get my hands on it, if I get it a bit lower than the MRP, however can't wait 6 months for the price to come down, then something newer will come and I won't be ever able to buy a phone in this cycle.
Btw, I will also upgrade from HD2,
I will be one week behind than everyone else since im getting paid next week i can't wait any longer..i will be making a black&cyan theme for sense 4.0 when i get it
Well the One X should be out by mid-april in my country, but I will wait till second week of May because it's my birthday and because htc phone prices usually decrease about 100-150$ after 3 weeks
I'm waiting for t mobile UK to start displaying contracts so think it will be a couple of days after release before I take the plunge, but as my contract is up on the 31st I should be in a decent position to keep my current contract sign up for another 18 months and get the phone for free
Sent from my LEEDROID powered Desire HD
This One is going to be a worthy replacement for my HD2!
im counting the days....
If you pre-order you get the Media Link Box for free and the plan I've pre-ordered on makes it a steal. 12 Month contract with Vodafone with HTC One X black, HTC Media Link, 300mins, 500mb, unlimited texts total cost £542. Sure as hell beats paying £490 outright from Amazon which was what I was going to do!
Sadly Voda/Orange/O2 were out of the question for me as unlimited data is a necessity.
I was severely hamstrung with 500mb of data on my Dz on Vodafone, and since moving to three two weeks ago I've downloaded over 2gb data.
In terms of pre-ordering, the trick is to get your employer to pay for your phone, then it doesnt matter how much the contract costs
My upgrade date is April 15th, so I've got to wait until release!

I haven't paid for a phone for about 10 years and I've had about 10 in that time!
Unfortunately, the One X isn't likely to be one of the phones on the list of devices my employer will issue. I asked for an HTC and they offered me a Wildfire S or a Desire S!! I declined and they've given me an SGS2 instead. Fortunately, they will allow me to get my own device and stick their sim in it
i'm probably waiting until 4/25, but only so i don't spend all of my money. i want so many records i've just bought around 30, so that cost a big chunk. i will manage a few weeks without a phone. i put my ATT account on vacation. they said it would cost $10 for the time it was suspended, then resume normal billing when i call to have it restored. i didn't say it was because i sold my GS2, though. i said i was going out of the country.

How Samsung are treating UK customers

Just received this. The must really appreciate us here as they will give us our money back and even collect the device.
We would like to offer our deepest apologies for the trouble you had to experience with the Note7. As you are aware, we have advised all existing Note7 customers to stop using your device, back up your data, and switch it off.
Due to this unfortunate incident and as a token of appreciation to you as our customer, we will offer you a full refund of your purchase or an exchange for any S7 range. We will also collect the defective device from your home so you don’t need to worry about returning it.
We will arrange for a courier to pick up the device from you between the time of 1pm - 6pm on Wednesday 19th October. For your safety please ensure that the device is powered down and is in its original packaging if possible. If you are not available or this time is not convenient to you, please contact 01628 402031 as soon as possible to arrange collection for the following evening.
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
Just got the same email and this paragraph makes me angry.........
"Due to this unfortunate incident and as a token of appreciation to you as our customer, we will offer you a full refund of your purchase or an exchange for any S7 range. We will also collect the defective device from your home so you don’t need to worry about returning it"
There is no "token of appreciation" here at all samsung!!! You are offering me nothing at all and that's just not on I'm afraid.
O2 are the same but worse, they have collected my not told me to contact them at least 24 hours after the call to talk an upgrade or cancellation I contacted them today nearly 48 hours after that call and basically got told they would refuse to do anything for 3-5 days until they actually had received and checked the device. they also offered no help with lost money for things like screen protectors and other accessories so needless to say I will never be using them again. they didn't even offer a token gesture discount on an alternative device.
so I've said they can go fornicate a rusty pole and and took up the 20% monthly discount my works offers on EE to get the Pixel XL.
Similarly composed letter in Estonia too.
Returned everything and disappointed. Will think not twice, but five times before buying Samsung products in future.
Makes me wonder what are they smoking to believe that europeans are happy to be treated worse than rest of the world.
I was just pushed a message which directed me to call Samsung on the 0330 number. Called them. Lines are closed even though it says open to 6pm saturday. Used the number ending in 1000, guy on the end said to power down phone and I will get a call back from them. I asked if they had thought this through. How do i get a call back without a phone to use. I need the money to buy a phone but cant get the refund until a long time after I have sent this one back.
This is going from bad to worse isn't it.
I was disappointed with Samsung about the faulty Note 7s, but I was not angry with them since they made some design or manufacturing mistakes which to an extent you could argue were out of their control. Or at the very least, which were not forseen.
But as they continue to mismanage this situation in this cack-handed way, I am most certainly starting to get angry. As stated in the thread earlier, people need time to plan for swapping their phones out. These are not toys, for which there is mild or no inconvenience if you are without it for a few days. These are serious pieces of equipment people rely upon in their daily lives.
I won't be returning mine any time soon.
I'm angry that they offered the s7e at full price. Not even a discount for our troubles. To add insult you can get the s7e cheaper elsewhere too
Most odd. In this European country the Note 7 cost 880.00€. The S7 edge cost 100.00€ LESS so hardly a fair exchange! Obvious thing to do is accept the cash back offer. Like you guys and gals I am also out of pocket big time on original Samsung accessories. Samsung in Europe have not made this an acceptable return have they. End of the day we, the consumer, have lost out on this as well as Samsung Korea.
One thing for sure, don't let the politics of the situation get in the way. Return your Note 7. Left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Ryland
its all in stages, just wait.
it was recall with refund or exchange only.
then exchange + $50 voucher
then exchange + 250 visa credit card,
and now exchange + $350 visa card, getting really hard to say no...
Mentioned the same in the other thread about UK recall.
I've tweeted them asking why it's different to the US recall.
I would be very interested to know how any complaints from guys here develop. People need to phone them and complain, get angry, threaten them by informing them you will go to every tech website and report this pathetic customer service attitude to them.
I am sick of Samsung treating the UK and Europe like we are not as important as the rest of the world. We pay more for the phone, we get less special offers, we haven't got Samsung Pay here yet, we didn't get the Note 5 and now we don't get any compensation. Just a lame email that makes it seems they are doing us a huge favour by giving us a refund! The least they could do is give us a hefty discount on the S7 Edge.
It makes me sick in the stomach.
.
so annoying .. carphone whorehouse want me to take my N7 back and have the £99 deposit back.
as far as there concerned the extra I've already been charged on my tariff doe not come into it.
so they want me to downgrade to a S7.. i had a N5 before all this which i now wish i had kept !
if i had wanted a S7 i would of bought one !!
so now its all lose lose ..
See how easy it is to complain about compensation
Guys,
I have put a post up here on XDA urging UK consumers to complain about not receiving any compensation in line with other countries.
Please take a look and please at least give it a go at following the instructions. It's really quick and simple. It may or may not get anywhere but it's certainly worth trying.

yep how this recall has been handled in the UK is a massive joke, I've already told O2 where they can go since they refuse to release my account or let me upgrade for best part of a week, basically wanting to leave me without a phone. I realise the problem has likely happened the same with all suppliers in the UK, but I'm pissed off so I'm leaving them and going else where.
for those at carphone warehouse it should be possible to get a full refund and your contract dropped to a monthly sim only contract, they can't force you to take a alternative, it is the same reason O2 had to give the option of a full refund and potential cancellation because the phone has to be returned meaning you are not getting any goods so need a full refund for those goods, the problem with the likes of carphone warehouse is the contracts include the device charge in the service charge so you lose your monthly payments that should go towards the phone, I was slightly better off on O2 as the phones are a separate credit agreement so O2 is forced to cancel it and refund me all payments I've made on it, the problem being they are going to drag it out that long I will have made another payment they will have to refund me instead of just clearing the phone off now as it has been picked up by the courier for return.

I am one of the lucky ones I suppose. I got mine from ee one of the first to have pre ordered, the when the 1st exchange kicked in was given 50£ for my troubles and 30 quid for accessories refund. I also got free 8gb data as ee expected a delay in delivery. Second time round I was offered a choice of upgrade for the exact same deal I had on a note 7 to get a iPhone 7 plus (grr iPhone yes I know), but it's the wife who chose it as she fancied something new. Having upgraded before the handset was exchanged left ee in a dilemma as they could not then give me a loan phone because the iPhone 7 plus won't be available until end of October possibly. They then asked me to send the note 7 handset back in for the recall and wait for my iPhone 7 plus. I advised them I had no other handset. They tried all the usual please use a previous handset and I stuck to my guns. They then offered me 50 quid to purchase a new handset as a I await for the iPhone 7 and laughed back at the chap that how could I buy a handset for 50 quid. After negotiating and arguing was given 150 quid credit for a handset as a I await my iPhone 7,so definitely benefitted from this nightmare.

I think this has been an unprecedented issue for all involved especially second party networks like ee. Initially when the second recall was kicking in ee didn't know what to do, which is why I ended up getting nearly 250 quid from this whole mess so can't complain.

both recalls O2 has refused to part with a penny or even offer help in a reasonable time frame, hell just to get through to the line they said I had to phone immediately I spent over an hour on hold, honestly their customer service throughout has been terrible and a total waste of space, achieving nothing other than alienating their customers.
