I've buyed a Diamond locked by orange. Now I like to unlock it and install a custom rom.
I was going through the forum but I found too much and different articels that I decided to create a new thread.
So the question is:
What do I have to do to get my sim-locked phone ready for flashing a custom rom?

You DO NOT need to SIM unlock your phone to use a custom ROM.
You DO need to install HardSPL to your phone before you can use custom ROM, you only need to HardSPL once.
There is much information in the sticks posts at the top of the ROM section that will tell all you need to know about HardSPL and ROM flashing.

Here's additional NOOP question. Do you need to CID unlock the Diamond AND HardSPL to use cooked ROM's? Or is HardSPL enough?

If you mean, do you have to change the CID, the answer is no as HardSPL means that CID is not checked.

I have a new Cingular 8525. Which upgrade would you advice me to use, the official at&t ROM (thx for the link guys) or the official Htc ROM (thx for this link too) and what would be the practical/theoretical advantage of one over the order. I am NOT with at&t, bought my phone unlocked (SIM) but i'm not sure about the CID (if unlocked).

which ROM to use is actually a matter of personal preference. youd have to try out one ROM after the other so you can judge for yourself which one suits you best.
aside from the "official" roms, you may want to consider cooked roms as well. they are based on official roms plus some customizations. each cooked rom varies as well and you wont know which suits you best until you try one.

Yes I've seen some of the cooked ROMs, I'm just worried I might brick my phone if I use some of them since i believe i read my phone has to be CID unlocked to flash any Hermes ROM on it.
By the way, is it ok if I just run the unlock process again and the check CID unlocked? (i bought the phone unlocked, so i'm not sure about the CID status).

I have a Dopod D810 (network unlocked, etc).
I have flashed it with the official WM6, however, i wish to try one of the cooked rom available here.
my question:
- will i void my warranty?
- will i flash the phone the way i flash my phone with the official rom?
- how do i go back to the official rom once i've flashed it with the cooked rom?

Hard SPL will allow you to flash cooked ROMs without SuperCID’ing your device and also will protect your device from being bricked in a bad flash. If a bad flash occurs it should remain in bootloader, and you can re-flash another ROM.

And remember the rules: search (native forum search, google search), read the results, read the wiki, search some more and then ask!

Just download the cooked rom and go from there?

Enter bootloader and check for HardSPL and version to make sure. If it is either OliPro or Des, you can proceed with flashing.

Mine is a Des.
So finally took the plunge to upgrade to WM6.1!!!!
flash my device with Mary's Super Lite. All looking good!

I have a Diamond, bought in Expansys, but in HTC website i can only update with HKE rooms.
So, a question (maybe a silly one but i dont know), can i install a WWE room in my diamond (one of this in XDA)?

Many people will tell you to use the search button, anyways you need to install hardspl and custom diamond RUU in order to install most of the roms in this forum. They are on the stickys.

Just got my Tilt2 yesterday from Negri electronics....very happy with the quality of it but hated the stock AT&T ROM. Just some questions I am hoping the experts here can help me out.
The phone came unlocked....if I attempt to flash it to another WWE ROM will the phone be re-locked?
I also need chinese input as well and currently I have CEstar 2.8 installed. Is there any other options to have chinese input instead?

I don't have any answer for Chinese input. For flashing a different WWE ROM, you MUST flash HardSPL FIRST. Don't even try to flash any other ROM before flashing HardSPL. First you need to read and follow all the instructions mention in this thread.

Thanks guys! I am more concerned about the sim unlock.....I'll check for a WWE ROM from taiwan and hopefully that will have chinese input....otherwise I just use a english ROM and go with CESTAR.

just remember to READ THROUGH the threads linked above and Hard SPL first or else it's the end of the world!!! For sim unlock, there are many like olipro who will unlock it for a price or if you're an ATT customer with good standing, you can just call them and they'll give you a sim unlock code. I do that for every phone I get - and that's free.

I bought a tilt 2 new, and unlocked it via imei. It have the original at&t rom with touchflo. so as u know theres a new rom since august that changes flo to sence and many other things.
So... my phone that is unlocked, if i update it to last oficial rom, it will be locked again? then i will have to unlock it again?

faq is talking about flashing custom roms and hardspl. but thats not what i want, i just want to update to the oficial last rom, from official old rom. But as i unlocked it by imei code not hardspl.
I dont wanna have a phone locked for att again. As i said 3 diferent forums and only u gave me an answer, i just wanna be sure
I suspect most people see you got an answer and move on. If you flash the new ROM the worst thing that happens is you have to unlock again, but the new ROM should not lock the phone
