hello, i am kinda new to this scene, but i mean no harm
I don't know everything but am eager to learn.
so i gonna ask some newbee questions and maybe i didn't read everything but hell, there is no harm asking
i just bought the diamond (in the dutch language, i've seen a couple more dutch ppl so if there is some one that knows alot, please add me @ msn : Deleted for Users Privacy You don't know Which Creep will add you, Use the Safe PM Method)
now i have some questions
- how can i extract my current rom? and can i use that extracted rom as a backup when i accidentily flash the wrong rom, or just want to have it back to the old way
- what is hard spl, i know it has something to do with the signing of other roms than the original rom, what are the dangers about flashing the spl, can it do any harm to my diamond? and can i go back to the original settings (and also, how about warranty?)
- before i had the Diamond, i had the Herald (P4350) and i bricked it twice, can this also happen with the diamond? or isn't that possible couze the SPL can be flashed (it wasn't possible with my p4350, thats why it was bricked )
i ask this questions becouse i want to get the maximum from my diamond, but i also have a contract on my provider and can't get a new phone in 2 years, don't want to waste my diamond on a stupid accident
if you think i am a noob, i am. but don't reply if you don't have any thing intresting to tell.
please don't tell me to use the search, becouse there are verry much topics and i can't get an hold of it, that's why i am asking it here.
Thank you verry much,
regards,
Sam
Im not ENORMOUSLY qualified to answer the SPL questions in depth but the General purpose of using HardSPL is that your device is freed up to use ANY ROM you wish (it has to be a diamond rom though). Hence your device is not limited to ROMs by your carrier:
Originally if you bought a Tmobile handset it is usually CID locked to only allow tmobile ROMS, with HArdSPL it allows any diamond ROM, so you could use on by HTC...or a cooked ROM found on this forum!
Also HardSPL has had a tradition of safeguarding against some of the types of brick possible, this may be the case with the version for the diamond but id probably let cmonex or olipro comment on that as im not too sure.
By adding the signing of ROMS and radios etc...this has removed the possibility of ROMs being flashed which are known to brick devices, wether it is intentional or just an accident by a ROM chef. Only allowing signed images to be flashed makes it alot safer for the majority of users.
Just a note: I would not advise to post your e-mail in a public forum, unless you dig spam.

yeah i know, but hell, it's only my gmail accout. got a lots of those
Maybe that is his allowed to have spam address
Anyway these questions are the same resting on my shoulders .... sadly my thread got closed.
All we want to know is how we .... backup the ROM before flashing and restoring it.
I figured the phone consists of the following:
IPL (Initial Program Loader) ... this is like a BIOS for your phone.
SPL (Secondary Program Loader) ... this will boot the actual OS.
ROM ... this is the part where WM61 etc all is?
Ext_ROM ... this is the part where HTC has put all its customizations like TF3D?
So when we use this HardSPL, we only flash the SPL ... ROM stays intact? And how do we make a backup of all this?
Also why is a hard-reset needed if only the SPL is being flashed? It would just startup and boot your ROM, or am I mistaken?
Maybe once Ive gained more knowledge about these nifty phones, I can contribute to the community too like you all do. Maybe I'll just start a "Total noob guide to the HTC Diamond" ... all I need is a start, I want to flash this thing ASAP .... but I first want to get a few simple answers which arent 100% answered by the wiki or forums (mainly how to backup ROM, radio etc etc etc BEFORE flashing).
Meh my posts tend to get longer than expected on new forums
@sfjuocekr:
- Diamond does not have an extrom.
- read kaiser/polaris/niki/etc.. (msm7xxx devices) forums and wiki, 95% of what is said there applies for the diamond too. Apply common sense to decide what is device specific or not.
Hope that serves you as a start, for example, to answer your question about rom dumping, compare these two threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382609
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
And apply common sense, so you'll se it's the same for diamond.

no IPL for diamond, the radio bootloader does that job.
the rest was said by pof very nicely
btw note: when you try to apply shift/kaiser commands to dump the rom, make sure you change the sizes in the commands, to match the pdocread -l info.

Does this mean that HardSPL is not necessary (but advisable) if your device is not CID locked to any carrier but bought directly from HTC?
Apologies for the next noob question...

HTC devices are still CID locked....to HTC ROMs, no device you can buy is SuperCID afaik.

Also the sketch from the layout ... I made up from information I found all over the forums and wiki, I do apply common sense but I still have limited knowhow about how these phones work.
Anyway thanks alot, Ill be trying to backup my phone asap when I arrive home from work (I work for Tele2/Versatel ... dont be scared I wont do any harm )

Got you...
Seems, after reading while working, these dumps are not the biggest helpers. As in we can't yet use them to rebuild the original ROM? I might have overlooked something, will investigate further this evening after work.
My question now still is, does this also update radio and SPL?
So the HTC Diamond basicly consists of a radio ROM, then the SPL and then goes into HTC ROM with WM61 etc ...?
So upgrading to HardSPL ... doesnt touch your current ROM and allows it to boot into it fine or does it need to be signed? Why is the hardreset needed then?
Anyway Im probably asking the same questions found on other parts of the forum, sorry for that if it annoys people around here. I just want to get started with a full backup, that is restorable ... as in that I can restore my phone to factory defaults ... if needed
I have alot of coding and hardware experience, which might help the community some day when I gain more knowledge. My age was the homemade EEPROM programmers and big ZIF-sockets business, you probably know what Im aiming for

I second that. Is there a way to do a full backup and restore to factory defaults after using hardspl and cooked roms?
SPL: you can take it from an official rom (nbhextract), if its the same version that you have, or you can dump it from the device before HardSPL'ing it. (see one of the previous threads I linked on how to pmemdump the SPL).
Radio:you can take it from an official rom (nbhextract), if its the same version that you have.
OS: Search how to reconstruct a dumped ROM, again, apply common sense

that's just standard RUU procedure. you can hack the RUU exe to not send task 28 to cause the SPL to hard reset.

I guess that you will do that soon too, right?
Perfect job you guys!!!
I just thought about this right now. Can the standard HTC ROM be flashed to the Tmobile TP2? Or would we have to wait for the HSPL? Im pretty sure you can flash other standard ROMs right? [like those in different languages]. So is it possible to flash an HTC ROM to the Tmo version at this point? Maybe this belongs in the ROM development section, sorry if it does, but i think its a general question.
Also, how do you check to see if you have CID unlocked your phone, [using the hardware keys]? i did a search of it, but couldnt find it again.
forgive me if im double posting, i did a search for these questions, but couldnt come up with a definitive answer. Or a clear one, for that matter. So i thought its better to ask yourself.
anyways, thanks for the time and the replies guys.
-josh.
No one? looks like 59 other people are interested.. haha. any answers?
No. I skimmed through your question quickly. I bet it's already been asked like 5 other times.
Right now, the HardSPL for our phone is being developed. Once that's done, we can flash other ROM's. Right now, we're stuck with the T-Mobile ROM. And there's no way to CID unlock yet, either. So, just wait for the HardSPL. That's all we can do. I got a PM going around, I guess they're looking for some native thing...Here's the message...
Don't forget to use the tool provided in this thread! The sooner we find somebody with a Hynix internal memory, the sooner we can have Hard-SPL on our Touch Pro 2's! If you've already done this, please ignore this message.
Do that if you wanna get the HardSPL going faster. I guess it's just like the lottery, whoever has the lucky device! That's how YOU can contribute to the community. Got it?
You can't because even if it's a stock rom, it's not customized for your device. Even if we ignore slight hardware differences, there's also the case of people with a European unlocked model being unable to install the Asian Rom because it's the "wrong" device.

You can, it would just have to be modified by the cook, making it a "custom ROM". That will be possible in, I'm guessing, a month, once HardSPL is working on our phones. It'll be way better with custom ROM's, but we gotta just wait.
Oh, I meant you can't right now. Not that it's impossible without the right tools and time enough. But to just download the rom and try to flash it without any extra steps or tricks isn't currently possible.
Hey Guys,
just wanted to tell you, that i am writting this post via my T-mo TP2 which i flashed via Goldcard to original HTC European Firmware.
Everything works perfectly fine!
If byou ned a Goldcard just contact cmonex.

Or we can wait for HardSPL, lol. That'll be easier for most, and be less bothersome for the cooks.
But it's good to hear that you got a custom ROM! I hate that T-Mo crap
Yeah, T-mo ROM really sucks...
HTC ROM runs much smoother, consuming less RAM, and allowing me to use icq and skype, which is the biggest plus.
Now my TP2 really is (In my oppinion) the best phone on the market
True, can't wait to flash a chefs rom to get rid of all the bloatware!
hello guys
i have the HTC Touch Diamond (p3700) from rogers, and i was wondering since the phone is locked to the rogers network, is it possible for me to install a custom rom on the phone?? or do i have to do the sim unlock to do that??
sorry, this might be a noob question but i need the question answered as i had the O2 Xda Mini S before my HTC which was unlocked and this is the first time i actually purchased a phone from rogers since i get all my phones from out canada
thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it
i have a rogers HTC diamond as well.. and its got the winmob 6.1 5.2.19965 build 1.2.3 Year 2008.. the HTC website doesnt let me download the feb 2009 firmware as the device is not suitable..
a few simple Noob questions please..
1 - its working in my country with other network sims, all of them but the phone strartup says rogers... is my cell unlocked or not?
2 - will Hard Spl remove everytrace of rogers from my phone? (i actually wana debrand it from rogers to plain standard retail version)..
3 - Will any firmare upgrade using hardspl method work on my cell?.. and what will happen to the orignal FW? will it be erased permanently, or will it still be stored in a secret storage, so that it can be retrieved later when i plan to sell it later and rest to factory defaults?
Again, as a newcomer and a noob at the Xda dev scene, i would apreciate any kind of help .
thanks in anticipation..

Hi,
As far as I know, you should be able to install any ROM you want.
But make sure you have flashed Hard-SPL Olinex Unsigned,
just try the link in my sig and follow steps 6 - 11.
You still need an unlocker to make it possible using other networks though.

1. Yes your phone is unlocked, but you are using a rogers customized ROM. Try a different ROM to remove it.
2. No, Hard-SPL will not remove it. You'll need to flash another ROM to do that.
3. Firstly, if you are flashing/upgrading a new firmware (we call it ROM) then all data will permanently removed.
There are some packs to revert your ROM back to stock, but I don't know if there are any Rogers ROM's available on the net.
I hope I have answered all your questions.
Good luck both!

hey thanks a lot for the reply, finally someone replies, and this method will not brick my phone right?? since that is what scares me the most the fact that i mite end up bricking my phone
Thanks a lot Elcondor.. it solved half of my problems..
the only thing is,, i tried the 6.5 Prototype rom and rogers sill show up on the startup screen.. i flashed the splash screen, and still the lower 100pixels appear pink, out of no where..
and i simply wana DEBRAND the whole **** of rogers from it, so that i can upgrade the 2.0.0.00 rom version to the HTC official 2.0.43 version, but evertime i download from there, and try updating it, it says, Model ID not compatible..
is there a way to remove the entire rogers crap from it, and get it cleaned like a retail version?...
Thanks a lot sir..

No, it shouldn't brick your phone. In fact, Hard-SPL makes your device hardly brickable. Just try it, you will not be dissapointed. But, it's not my responsabillity if you brick you diamond, keep that in mind.

The splash screen is a harder part to do. You need Patchsplash to patch your splash screen. In that way, the splash screen should appear right. Note that the procedure to do that is pretty hard. Here are some more instructions if you didn't get it.
And about a Diamond stock ROM, take a look here. A 2.03.4 ROM including a new radio and the splash screen.
Good luck guys!

No prob my friend, xda-devs is to help each other.
To recommend a ROM is pretty hard, since there are very different kind of ROMs available.
Do you want a ROM with full Diamond2 experience, without WM 6.5(.x) try Gen. Y D2 R4.
Or, do you prefer a light WM6.5(.x) ROM, try BSB 6.5.1. It is pretty fast and light.
In a short time, I am going to release a 6.5.1 ROM (called Condor GT), with very nice graphics and still very fast.
Just give some a shot and you'll soon find out which ROM is the best.
BTW All the ROMS given in this thread are better that stock ROMs, just to be clear

A SIM unlock will not allow you to flash a custom ROM. You need a HardSPL unlock to do that.

Miami: I believe USCC is an abbreviation for US Cellular. I'm not sure what the other "C" stands for, though.
gotttijr: If I understand you correctly, you're saying that you asked US Cellular about putting a Hard SPL on your device. If that's the case, then OF COURSE they would tell you not to do it! Changing the ROM of your device VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY. You are doing this at your own risk. You don't have to tell them about doing it, though. There are tools to get it back to its stock conditions if you ever have to send it in for a warranty repair/exchange.
Hard SPL DOES NOT unlock your device to another service. If you want to do that, then ask your carrier for the unlock code. Tell them you need the code to be able to use it in another country, and they will normally give it to you with no problem. Hard SPL allows you to flash custom ROMs and other radios.
This is as far as I take you, grasshopper. Search and read. The answers will come to you.

Android isn't stable on any phone not designed for it. Most of the people running it on a dual-boot setup have to live without some functionality and/or other quirks.

I got a USCC TP2 unlocked working with T-Mobile. Just follow all of the instructions given by the letter. Go over here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-tp2-upgrades/
Read the sticky threads. After unlocking and everything you can choose a new ROM that runs better than stock. USCC TP2 stick with CDMA ROMs and radios. Never install a GSM ROM or Radio.

If I had a nickel for every time a new member asked "What ROM should I choose?" I'd be a very wealthy man.
Either flash a ROM or don't. Either way, only YOU can recommend a ROM for yourself. There are several for you to try. Just keep flashing ROMs until you find one you like.
No one can give you advice on an unlock thread without seeing it. Post a link to whatever you're talking about or move on.

you could try and make a goldcard and flash a generic rom, apart from that there is not much you can do, you cant root the 1.75 roms yet
ok then how do i go with the goldcard thing? btw what is a goldcard exactly ?
use search pls..there are many threads about that in the Developement Thread.
btw, mine is also tmobile branded. there are some apps ok, and the startscreen..who cares
i wouldnt install an official rom..warranty is gone and fota doesnt work as easy as now. (yeah you can flash back the stock one...)
just my 2 cents

Man tmobile makes the phone run a bit slow ( talking about fastboot).. takes 2.5 sec on official rom,, takes a minute on branded rom.

I'm in the same position as Leather|Face. I know almost nothing about rooting/flashing a phone or gold cards. I also have a DHD with T-Mobile UK but want to get rid of all the branded stuff (especially the boot screen which makes booting the device take around a minute !!).
I have tried searching these forums for a solution but due to the fact I don't exactly know what I'm looking for it is quite difficult. I see a lot of "ROMs" on here for download, I don't know which one I need or if I need one at all, nor do I know how to install them. There seems to be a LOT of help guides for this kind of thing for the HTC Desire, but not the HTC Desire HD - probably because it's a lot newer, or not? This is the way I understand the process, please correct me if I'm wrong and point me in the right direction to complete these tasks;
1. First step would be to "root" my phone, which I believe gives me admin/superuser priveleges, and that's all it does right? I don't know how to do this.
2. Next I need to find the correct ROM, which would be the stock ROM for HTC Desire HD (don't know where to find this either, tried searching). Does this ROM include the unbranded version of HTC Sense UI etc, or am I on the wrong tracks?
3. Install the stock ROM, which I believe is more commonly referred to as "Flashing a ROM", is this correct? I don't know how to do this either.
As you can see from above, I have limited understanding of the process, and what I think I understand may be completely incorrect anyway! I want to find a guide to get back the stock DHD Android/Sense UI, ideally with explanations for a newbie telling me WHY I am doing specific tasks and how they affect my phone etc.
I'll be thankful for any help

1. No, first step if you *really* want to do this is to look at how you downgrade from 1.7x to 1.32 (I think, check elsewhere).
2. HTC ROMs, the stock version, are just that. Networks add their stuff to customise it and that's what you're stuck with right now. I don't know which you'll need unfortunately, I'm on T-Mobile with the DHD but I got one before they were available on the site to everyone and it has no branding at all. The ROMs are RUU - ROM Update Utility but I don't think you can just flash stock over a T-Mobile branded version.
3. If you don't know how to flash a ROM then you're going to have to learn how by reading lots of threads and asking careful questions.
I can't give you links because I don't know how to go from branded to stock, I only know what I need to for my phone. I was in the middle of typing out what I think you need to do but I got stuck due to the stock ROM. I don't know if the downgrade process will work or not, and if it does work I don't know if that's downgrading to a stock ROM. I'm sorry I've just added more confusion
Suffice to say you'll need at least this information...
How to downgrade from branded to stock HTC firmware
One-click root tool at some point
Possibly / probably an install of the Android SDK to use ADB commands, not sure on this but I have it already from my G1 days.
Information on which is the stock EU or UK ROM version (RUUs remember?)
The search isn't handy when you don't know what you're looking for but hopefully this will give you somewhere to start.
Thats strange, my DHD is from T-Mobile and has no branding on it whatsoever.
right..you cant really call it fastboot on tmobile rom.
dont you think we could claim them for "doing" that? they sell the dhd with the spec "fastboot"..so its limited in its features..

I couldn't find a link to a rooted stock ROM but see here if you really do want to stay with stock and still have root (no reason to do this though as the ROM above will totally blow it away):

Dunno about colours but battery life and overall speed and performance are way better than stock
I was in the exact same position Dutch vodafone branded 1.75 softwareversion. I somehow managed to create a goldcard, downgrade, root my device and then S-OFF. I used the provided tutorials in the Android development section. Before that I just read alot untill I convinced myself I could do it. After that I used generic 1.72 RUU.exe via pc to flash my DHD. My device is now unbranded. Creating the goldcard was the hardest part, pay attention as you need to write mmc2/mmc2 instead of mmc1/mmc somewhere in the process.

I was just about to start the first process above (downgrading) when I noticed my current Build number = "1.39.110.1 CL278886 release-keys". Now I don't know what most of that means, but in the downgrading forum it says this;
System requirements:
Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher

Does this mean I don't need to downgrade? Is my current build number 1.39?

Yeah man
EDIT: This was a reponse to LeatherFace's question Android Revolution having Sense UI. My forum view must have tripped out
