Just would like to bring to your attention a thread explaining pretty much everything about Li-ion batteries.
Hope it will help you understand your phone's behavior better

Just found this, not sure if it has been mentioned elewhere...couldn't find it, so please forgive me if it's been posted before.
Extended battery for desire:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/seidio-innocell-extended-life-battery-htc-desire-p24215.htm
1600mah, so only 12.5% better, if I've got the maths right!
However, the downside is I'm pretty sure I have read somewhere, possibly on this forum that some 3rd party battery manufacturers over inflate their specs. (If anyone could confirm this please feel free to do so, because I can not remember where I saw the original article). So, unless someone else has bought one, and can confirm it actually is better, I don't think I'll be ordering one!
link in my sig to The thread with the tests.. its a good and disturbing read.

That's the very one, thanks. So this really confirms that these batteries are a total waste of money!!
Caveat Emptor!
Hello friends,
As you may or may not notice depending on your frequency here on xda, we have many people with wide results in the battery department, especially with leaks.
The problem is, these reports are simply not consistant. Posting "I lost 6% in 1" min does nothing for anyone. This post is not to make fun or to bash but to awaken potential ways to help each other.
If you are suffering from poor battery, grab this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Its called better battery stats and the dev is nice enough to allow it for free to xda members. One of its primary features in our case is tracking down wake locks and kernel wake locks. Instead of posting "my battery life is horrible" do some investigating. Try to find out why. Help out yourself, or hell, if Samsung or sprint are here, maybe you'll help them too.
Just a thought, but srzly, "battery life sucks" is no gud.
So as the leaks progress, feel free to share experiences. Help users help you with locks because I can assure some of your poor battery is not experienced by everyone. And if it is, then we can all determine why.
If you need help understanding the app or how to use it, and you can't figure it out from the apps in app help section then ask.
I've got to say, coming from the Evo 3D, this phone has way better battery life for me. I'm not one to pay close attention to battery stats, screen on time, etc. because I'm usually near a charger every where and hardly ever let it go below 40%. I completely understand what you're saying about the user reports though. My favorite is when a rom gets released, 1 hr later you get the "How is battery life?!" Hopefully members will take you're advice and start looking more closely at it and give better info

Bolded has always been one of those things that made me get a good chuckle.
Good post OP, thanks for the link.
You can also check the "Show CPU Usage" in Developer setting" if you are on an ICS leak and want real time feedback...

+1 I would have to agree with that one myself but it also make me wonder what the heck is wrong with people...LOL
Also as stated previously when coming from a HTC device this is like almost having an extended battery but I will make reference in here of battery life in the future... thx
Yeah, I just came from the OG EVO 4G and it's like having an extra battery. I was looking at posts about bad battery life and chuckling to myself.
But I will install that app and track mine, if we/I can improve it then I'm all for it. Be nice if we can get a number of people on board so we have a good pool of stats to work with, might find something.

I installed BBS but what exactly do I look for? How do I know what's killing my battery? This app just looks like a bunch of numbers and colored lines to me, lol.

I looked to find a similar thread but i didnt see one.
I have been reading in different posts where people have mentioned how their battery life has been with combinations of roms and kernels. I would like to know everyones opinion and their results. From my test and observations, i lose around 10% and hour on my galaxy nexus (gsm version). I seem to get around the same amount of battery life if i use jb or a ics rom. I have seen people claiming they lose 5% an hour and even 1% an hour. Also if you would include any apps you use that seem to help with battery life. Thanks.
This is a small sample of battery life threads.

Most of these threads are closed because no one wants to help. The thread gets closed before it has a chance to get going. Im trying to get a decent thread going where people post what works best for them. That isnt on here that ive seen. I know its a matter of process of elimination but im just curious.
they get abandoned because there are a billion "which rom/kernel get the best battery life' threads.
seriously. try them out.. there is no 'ZOMG THE BEST ROM/KERNEL COMBO EVAR!'
There's a reason why those threads ramble on then get closed. Battery life is extremely subjective.
I have tried them. I know what im doing with kernels and roms as far as testing and flashing. Im just curious what has worked out for other people. I am a flashaholic, i just think it would be interesting to see what other people are using.

Precisely. Not to mention that a vast majority of the differences are just placebo effect.

i know and thats what i want. The point of this thread is for people to post what they are using. Period.
Nevermind. I will create a new thread and reword it. Can this thread be closed?
and it will get closed.
read the response from the mod:

As has been mentioned before, it's all personal preference. Something others have done in the past, that is welcomed, was testing each ROM/kernel for things like battery life, linpack scores or anything else measurable.
Thread Closed.
[Q] Any general battery saving tips, as well as "must have" mods/tweaks/apps? Thanks!
I thought I'd post this as I would prefer to get updated advice as a lot of posts I've read that deem reasonable advise were from quite a few months ago!
Even if it's how to correctly calibrate, wakelocks, undervolting, decent kernels, maybe even roms, or useful tweaks/apps.
I'm absolutely loving this phone, getting along great, bought second hand very cheap as the buyer mentioned "Wifi doesn't work". After looking on XDA I found the wifi solution. Bought the One X (Quad) and it's great.
Been part of the XDA forums (maybe on another account before) since my old XDA II windows phone
Any advice will be very much appreciated!
Cheers!
Josh.
