Well, just had to look at returning my 3rd TP2 to Amazon as they have all had issues from faulty GPS to the last one having Dead Pixels.
Just thought I'd let you guys know that they have said it is a faulty batch they have received from HTC and have asked me to send my 3rd back for a full refund.
They won't be offering a replacement as they are sending the whole lot back to HTC and waiting confirmation of a new batch arriving.
Just thought I'd let you guys know in case anyone else is having issues.
Bummer,
Thanks for the post mate, should be of some help to others that have / are thinking of purchasing through Amazon.
Thankfully my MPD supllied Rhodium is totally sweet, no issues at all.
Cheers,
Beasty
I wouldn't buy from MPD either actually, the one I got has a faulty screen. And poor customer service to back it up. Excellent!

Never had any issues with them in the past either, they've allways been good and resolved any issues I've had in a timely manner.
Hope you get yours sorted soon.

shocked to hear that as they are quite good. well most of them as i did have a run in with a bad one! no one has complained of any issues with the phones rec'd from them. mine has been awesome and would reccommend them to anyone. Clove has had a few bad ones as well. its just how the cookie crumbles sometimes. there are good and bad in everything!

Totally agree.
One thing I will mention in the 3 phones I had. One of the batteries lasted twice as long as the other two. Strange I thought, but I did have the 3 phones running side by side with same usage etc over the course of a week. I got 3-4 days out of the good battery, 1-2 out of the other two.

Come to think of it, in my haste to grab one, I never even checked about warranty. I assume MPD honour a 12 month warranty, or can you deal with HTC direct?
MPD are very poor. My unit screen wobbled and was uneven. Pictures are in the wobbly screen thread. Will not be using them again customer service is non existent. Only thing going for them is the deals. If you get a good phone from them well done but I wouldn't take any chances again.
I key faulty
I got mine from MPD and the I key on the QWERTY keypad gave up on me. Luckily it was only 7 days old so I got a new replacement, which so far seems fine. Its IMEI was way above the number fo the first one though...
Because the issue I had happened randomly after the 7 day period they refused to replace the device, and insisted I sent it to Regeneris or whatever they're called.
These however do not deal with HTC devices apparently, and today have forwarded it on to HTC anyway, but seem confident I'll get the phone back quickly..
What frustrated me about MPD though was them refusing to help in anyway over the phone and insisted I emailed them. This would be fine if it didn't take a day to respond, when you just want to get the phone away to have it sorted!
I wonder if my MPD sourced TP2 is part of a bad batch? I will post elsewhere but have problems where it keeps losing the internet connection and pops up the "Cannot connect for an unknown reason" window.
It is on T-Mob and I have set up a new data connection with the details from the T-Mob website but the problem persists. Sometimes I can "OK" the message and it will then connect. Other times I have to cycle the phone radio before it will connect.
SIM worked fine in my Tytm II. Any suggestions or is it a duff radio??

Could be a couple of reasons........
What is your signal strength like ?
Is it jumping between G and H ?
Use the autoconfig app to configure web settings, but make sure to disable the proxy settings after config.
Kaiser would of had a stronger signal reception than the Rhodium too.
Cheers,

aarrrhhh don't get me started with the please email the webshop line. I was so angry with them I ended up cancelling everything with them. I contacted Tmobile directly who did the business for me. MPD do have a bad batch I had 2 from them. I am now thinking of trying handtec as I have had really good experience from them or going into central london to try a few units before hand. I am now using a IPHONE 3Gs unlocked using tmobile which has been good but it is so locked down.

If you've got a silver dash (not sure about black) that is still under warranty and have been putting off an exchange for any issues it has had - now is the time to call. Some customers may be able to get an alternate exchange for the dash 3g at no cost or contract, plain and simple exchange due to the low supply of refurb dashes. An alternate exchange is a new phone not refurb as well so this is awesome if you still have a warranteed dash. A little birdie told me this. No word on if this is a permanent or temporary alternate.
Actually it is for a $50 minimum rebate on a new HTC device. And it ends at close of business TODAY! I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they said as long as your old HTC device is not broken, damaged, the screen works, not leaking, no water damage, no corrosion and the hinge still works you can trade it in for money towards a new device. But it ends TODAY, 8-25-09. So that kinda bites the big one. This is according to someone I spoke to at T-Mobile about 5 minutes ago. If it were true I was gonna go trade mine in asap. But like Grandpop always said, "If it's too good to be true........." Hate to be the one to burst anyones bubble. I just burst my own.

Different deal. Basically I'm talking about warranty exchange - you're talking about a trade-in program. Basically older devices at end of life, can often get alternate exchanges for a newer device. But you do not call up for the alternate exchange - you only get it if you've got a technical problem that requires an exchange, when they pull up the exchange form it will show "alternate exchange" in some cases. If you called up T-Mobile and asked them straight up to send you the dash 3g, of course they'd send you the upgrade path
So basically you have to have a Dash that is still under some kind of warranty and has an 'issue'. Then since there aren't anymore of these to offer they have no choice but to offer you a new Dash 3G. Is this the basic idea here? Well mine is a little over 2 years old so I would not qualify anyway. I do carry insurance but yeah no more warranty from the manufacturer I am sure. Too bad.

Nice! Then you can go run my new ROM in the Maple Forums.
This does work!! I recently received my second Dash (silver) as a warranty replacement. The new one had a separate issue. While on the phone with handset warranty replacement, I asked about the G3. I was told no, but when she entered it into the computer as an option, it was accepted. Just received the Dash G3 yesterday and am loving it. Only issue I'm having is that the old dash screen is blank and I have no way of getting my contacts off of it, so far. Mobile Device Manager won't work, as I don't have Outlook. Still looking for options to retrieve contacts off of old dash.
I have warrenty replacement of a dash 1 on the way because some of the keys stopped working. They didnt offer the D3g but said I could get a new g1 through my insurance if I wanted to. So do I have to ask? What do I say because they told me the warrenty only covers the same phone?
This is exactly how I got my first Dash. I had the SDA, and it had a reception issue around where I lived. They sent a replacement - same issue. Then I asked about an alternate exchange for the Dash instead, and they said they could do it.
Hmmm, I will have to check that out! I have the black Dash though so not totally sure if it will work the same way. Many thanks for the helpful info!
I got the alternate exchange but they only one they offered was the 09 shadow brand new in the box. Its for my daughter anyway. I think shell like it better, it seems more girly than a dash.
Just called them.
Just called them up for my boss whos dash got dog chewed and they said they would send a regular old dash .
oh well.
Same here.
Have had a problem with the phone randomly turning off. Called for a replacement and they offered the same DASH or a Shadow. Stuck with the DASH. Should have it in a few days...maybe in a few months I can get the 3g when it's time for an upgrade.
These offers change all the time.... glad to see it has worked for some.
I had a dream last night I got the 3g in the mail. I was so happy.
TMO will be shipping me a refurbished phone for the one I have that's experiencing loose hinge syndrome. I'm pissed that I won't be getting a new one for this. Has anyone else gone through this for the G2? I'm worried about getting another one that's going to have a loose hinge, even though they said this shouldn't have that problem.

I'm pretty sure if you search this forum, you will find at least 5-10 other threads talking about only the hinge and whether the problem exists or doesn't and experiences through exchanges, returns, etc.

Indeed. Bottom line pal,..... there is nothing to say you will not get one that is worse. It was not mean to click into place. Good luck.
I know there are other threads going into detail about the loose hinge on the G2, and I've already participated in most of them with my loose hinge issue. However, this thread was created to find out what people's experience with exchanging their G2 with TMO. I know some have major problems with the hinge and others have no issues whatsoever. I am just a bit upset/irritated that I was told by this TMO rep this is "a known issue and we're fully aware of it," yet they're going to send a refurbished phone instead of a new one. Yes, I know I could end up getting a phone that's in worse condition than my current one, but the point I'm trying to make is that it shouldn't be that way. Sure, if I bought this phone the day it was released and I just experienced this issue, I wouldn't have a problem doing an exchange or even sending it in for repairs. But since this phone is one week old, I just wasn't expecting to hear the word "refurb" come out of this person's mouth.
So, if anyone here has gone through an exchange for their G2, did you end up with a new one or a refurbished one? If you received a refurbished one, was it in good condition with little to no signs of wear & tear?
Thanks.
If the phone is only a week old, you could exchange it under buyer's remorse.
Like I said in the other thread,... a refurbished is not good enough. Get some legal advice if at all possible.

Exchanged mine and got a brand new one mailed to me, no refurb. As far as the hinge it was about the same, but it never bothered me in the first place, You paid for a new one and now are getting a refurb in exchange, doesnt sound quite legal?
Are they giving you some money back for the price diffrence for a refurb model? Ive never had a problem with T-mobiles customer service, matter a fact, today I just got them to drop two of my lines to unlimtied andriod data for $20 each, but I had to talk to a customer loyalty rep. I think you should probably call them back and ask to speak to a Supervisor. Thats like buying a new car and taking it back and getting a used one for the same price.
Here's my latest reply in the thread I started called "How Loose is Your Hinge" that should help shed some light on my recent experiences with TMO...
-------------------
For those who don't know me here, I previously owned the MT4G. I experienced major issues with the phone and exchanged it a total of FOUR times, meaning I had in my possession (not at once) a total of five MT4Gs. The first four phones had incredibly bad creaking buttons, the fifth one had perfect buttons but a washed out display. I refused to continue going the route of MT4G swapping, so they suggested me going with a different phone, and I chose the G2. The G2 they sent me arrived last week, brand new in a prestine unopened box. The hinge was perfect, not too tight and definitely not loose like it is now. Each day it got a little bit looser, and now it's just ridiculously loose to the point that it opens no matter how I hold it.
So, maybe they're shipping me this refurb because I've already gone through so many exchanges, but two of their top phones have so many issues that it just makes me sick. With all the issues with the G2, MT4G and Vibrant, I'm shocked I haven't heard about any lawsuits against TMO. Or at the very least, I think TMO should be proactive about this and admit that there are problems with these phones, and that they should be more than willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the customer is happy. I have to say I was treated very well during all those MT4G exchanges, and I feel they did everything they could to make sure I was a happy customer. But, I'm still not thrilled being told that I need to accept a refurb for a G2 that was technically brand new and just one week old.
That totally sucks. I got the first two G2s the cs rep. that I was dealing with had ever sold. I feel lucky I have never experienced the loose hinge syndrom everyone is talkng about. Sorry for your troubles, I would get totally pissed and threaten a cancel if I were you.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The problem is, 95% of the population would never return the phones for the problems you described on your Mytough 4g slide.
The XDA community is a community of people with a tendency to experience obsessive like symptoms about their gadgets, unfortunately.

A week old?? Call them on "buyers remorse!!" They will be forced to send you a brand new one in retail packaging! I did that with a keyboard issue I had when it started within the 15 day period.
The only thing is, they will charge you full contract price but will refund it when they get the old one back. But check your bill closely to make sure they refund it properly. I had to jump through hoops twice to get mine in order.
Don't use regular warrentee replacement on a device that new. Its their own policy to make sure you are completely satisfied with your purchase. You could even get something else if you pay the difference. But g2 devs are the best.

My first G2 had a bad trackpad. I received it on a Thursday and I called them that Saturday. The tech at TMo told me to do a buyers remorse exchange and transferred me to CS.
I received what appeared to be a brand new G2, but with a funky gmail addy with even funkier calendar entries. Was strange, but everything else was fine...
I sent back the first G2 the same day I got the replacement, bill came out a week later. Still waiting for it to come off my bill, but I know TMo will take care of it.
Or you could just go into a store and do the buyers remorse exchange with less of a headache.

it would be nice if all TMo reps gave the same information..
I ordered over the phone, and on a complete whim- on an unrelated call, they offered me to go from EMP back to EM and we all got new phones on a new contract- and BOGO at that! when I called with issues, they told me I could go to the store and exchange it painlessly, or go through what I am, which is still no big deal. the rep said they could call the store ahead of time and let them know what to do when I came in.
the only reason I didn't go to a store is because I'm in Maine, and though they have a call center here, there are no actual corporate stores in Maine, or within 50 miles of me. (don't even get me started on the service- I have to pay for a 4G data plan, and I only get GPRS where I live, and the "partner-service" doesn't work on my G2, but works fine, and he has better signal, on a frikin Vibrant)
Certainly that can't be right.
Nevertheless, I have to say my experience getting my bricked phone (my fault entirely) replaced throught the ATT warranty dept went very well.
They even included overnight shipping, didn't require me to ship mine back 1st and included a return shipping label for my crapped out phone. I made the claim Friday and received my new phone Monday 11 am.
Well done ATT.
Congratulations!
What can you advise me to do with my bricked phone? I bought my phone from eBay and I live in Israel. I think that will not be able to replace my phone for a new one. Only if I'll send it directly to LG. But will there be something to do?

Maybe LG but ATT won't do anything for you unless your a customer. And usually warrenty is not outside of the country you got it from.

I think this particular ATT Rep was smoking salmon...I have returned 2 already due to warranty stuff and will probably be selling the next replacement I get...the rep at my local store wasn't overly enthused with the phone and said that was the consensus.
On a lighter note they were very helpful with getting this taken care of and doing so very quickly...

I don't have AT&T so despite living in the USA, I sent my phone directly to LG. (I use an AT&T MVNO, so I don't get support from AT&T) LG repaired it free of charge and mailed it back. So I guess LG does something right.

what's been the issue(s) with your phones?
Generally, I tend to find local store rep's opinions to be, well, less than they should be. After using this phone for 2+ months I'm unsure why a local store rep would not communicate the benefits of this device as opposed to their lack of enthusiasm for it.
I don't think the phone is so bad...I think there are lots of great things about it. I love the screen, it has the potential to be so quick and snappy and really could be an all around awesome phone...I just realized the fact that updates were going to be a little slower towards this phone and it seemed like making any slight mod (firmware/rom wise) would work but had a much higher failure rate than I think anyone was looking for-hence my looking to move on...
The specific issues with my phone were a short or something that just hard bricked the phone without warning and without any mods...at all. It just turned off one day and nothing could ever, every be done to get it back on. Strange.... the second phone has never been quite right after installing a rom and the boot loops and not being able to reboot was kind of a turn off. Plus the speaker in the earpiece has been a bit wonky so I decided to do a warranty return and then move on from there.
And you're right...some of the reps seem to be way off from what's realistic...you can tell they definitely play favorites and seem to be very partial and unsupportive. But at least they were helpful!

Exchanging in a store during your 30 day buyers remorse period is different than exchanging through warranty. You might have exchanged it several times in store, but to AT&T's warranty department, this is the first time. They keep track of how many warranty claims you make, once you get to a certain point they usually allow you to try something different.
As for AT&T store reps, many of them base their opinions on phones on popularity, return rate, etc. The Nitro/Optimus LTE is an awesome phone, but it isn't very popular saleswise.

One problem - I live in Israel, and in my country this device is officially not for sale. So I do not know how and where to call and send the device. I have no idea what to do.
AT&T reps were trained to lie to customers. I had to turn in my SGS2 twice for exchange, and both times I was told I was the first to exchange the SGS2.

A friend gave me an HTC One thats useless to him since the battery wont accept a charge whatsoever.
It powers on and everything when its plugged in, but it dies immediately if its unplugged.
The phone still has a year left on the manufacturer warranty, but im clueless to HTCs rules/policy/procedure. I am not the original owner and have no papers or proof of purchase. Would I still be able to send it in as is? Or do I need some paperwork etc?
Thanks for any help.
I wasn't the original owner on my phone when I sent it in, and I didn't have to provide any proof of purchase or anything. I just had to pay for shipping to them.
They asked if I could take it to my service provider (VZW), and I said no I couldn't because I wasn't the original owner and they just said Ok, and started on my claim. I did it through online chat - not sure if phone service would be the same or not.

Yep, the devices is the one that gets the warranty regardless of who bought it. they track it with the IMIE that is on the phone.
OP i would suggest you talk to HTC, they are normally good about helping with HW failures like you stated. Couldn't hurt to ask.
Ahh ok, good to know, thanks Synister
I had similar experince, not orginal owner and they will accept RMA if phone is under warrenty.
You pay shipping to them, they cover shipping it back to you..
You don't even need proof of purchase. My wife had to use the advantage screen replacement and the Rep said when the phone first gets programmed, it sends the info to HTC, so they know when the phone was bought.
Sent from my One using XDA Free mobile app
So I went ahead and did the live chat. I got disconnected twice (who knows why) but they had a record of the convo etc.
Anyway, went through the process to confirm it wouldnt take charge and am sending it in. Pretty cool.
Initially I opted in for the refurbished replacement and then mentioned it had a cracked screen. I got excited for a moment thinking the warranty coverage may actually accept it and they would send a non-cracked refurb . As expected though, no go there so im just gonna get the battery fixed.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Did you ask about the free screen replacement for the phone? maybe while they are fixing the screen they will do the battery too? I know some people are saying its only 6 months for the screen but i did convince a friend to try and they are going to fix his One Max screen and he's owned it for 8 months. worth a try.
There is a class action lawsuit in NJ pending regarding Samung Note 4 (.http://www.classlawdc.com/2017/04/25...failed-defect/) Apparently there is faulty eMMC chip on the motherboard that started going bad about couple of years. Many people have found an app Wake Lock as a work-around to keep the phone working little longer. I have found a thread of people contacting Samsung repair center and negotiating a motherboard replacement for about $70 (in my oppinion an only permenent solution) so I tried it. Make a long story short, when I explained the problem to the agent, who immediatly understood the problem. I made sure the cost of the motherboard replacement was going to be about $70 and change and also he emailed me 2nd day air UPS lable. In about 8 days of turnaround my phone returned with brand new motherboard, a new screen with digitizer and a new charging port installed. They even sent a new AC fast charger and a battery installed in a phone box. If the class action lawsuit wins in the court, I would get reimbursed for the repair but mean while I have a practically brand new phone that will last a long time. $70 well spent.

I had the same experience. I sent mine in last April. It cost about $70 and now I have a brand new phone that's still working great.
I'm still perplexed by all the people that are still trying to get a hardware problem fixed via software (e.g., factory resets, rooting, wakelock, etc.). For US customers the phone can be repaired for very little money compared to the cost of buying a brand new flagship phone. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 still meets all my needs. Now I just wish they would release a firmware fix for the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.
"Many people have found an app Wake Lock as a work-around to keep the phone working little longer." Ok - I finally got my Verizon Note 4 working reliably again using WakeLock - are you implying that is only a temporary solution? I know that I'll have to pull the battery every restart but I can live with that.
Would you be able to post who you contacted? Samsung support is giving me a run-around.
Can I get a little more info about this? I bought my Note 4 supposedly new, but probably refurbished about 18 months ago. I pretty much immediately unlocked the bootloader and tried a couple of different ROMS. I had some trouble unlocking the bootloader, and a couple of times got stuck in bootloops, and by the time I finally got everything settled down I found my phone was not stable at all. Since then the phone probably freezes a few times a week, depending on how actively I've been using it. Most of those times require pulling the battery. At the same time my radios are very unreliable. Many times the radio fluctuates so much that calls will go straight to voice mail even when I'm in an area where I should have a very good signal. And data is completely hit or miss. I'll go from no data at all to 1x to 3G (never 4G) again sitting in one place. Essentially I can never count on having either a data or voice signal.
I've just put up with this because 1) I'm almost always in a place with WiFi, and 2) I don't really like using my phone all that much anyway. But lately it seems to have gotten so bad that I'm not sure what point there is in even having a smartphone.
I'd be happy to pay $70 if I could expect that it would solve both my rebooting issue and my signal issues, but wouldn't want to do it if it fixed one but not the other. And also, does anyone know if they would do this for a phone where the bootloader had been unlocked?

Some info about the number you contacted would be helpful. Thinking about just sending mines in for repair too.

I just replied, but don't see it....
Went through the website ("contact us"). They replied with an email telling me to do everything I had already told them I had done in my first contact with them. Replying to their email - their server refused my mail.
Never again. I have a Note 3, Note 4, Samsung Nook, and a Samsung tablet. I'm NEVER buying another Samsung device. Obviously, they won't care if I do or not, as evidenced by their abysmal CS.
Funny thing is that the phone still works aside from the occasional emmc read fail message which doesn't stop it from working, having to pull the battery or stick in the freezer if it doesn't restart. Annoying as hell...
i just sent mine in
I declined the repairs even with the $70 offer because I feel that it will just fail again. I asked for a different device and they refused. My note 4 has already been repaired once by a previous owner.
