However the web site pricing doesn't work when viewed using Google Chrome as the browser.
Now firing up the spreadsheet to working out the best deal. My t-mobile contract runs out next month
Brought my Tytn from Vodapone and found them helpful when I had hardware problems.

Anyone without a "business" got one? Anyone had any problems with not owning a business?
Many thanks,
Dave
I got one last week without a business, and they didn't seem bothered at all.
I got mine for £30+vat a month over 18 months and when I've just looked at the website it showed 3 months free. I rang up and complained that I wasn't offered this option, and he politely pointed out that it was for 24 month contracts only. Then he said if I wanted to change to it I could and he dropped the rental to £25 pm
So I have extended the contract AND saved money, are you listening Tmobile?
Thanks stunno, I think I'm going to upgrade... (it's been so long since I got my Kaiser, I've getting nervious )
@lloydsparkes, please don't thread hijack, I've deleted your posts, use one of the many T-Mob threads.
Dave
yeh i got mine from vodafone a week ago and im not a business owner...
they didnt seem too bothered about it either. Got a 25ppm contract for 24 months! figured the phone looks great and hopefully should work well (which it is for now) i didn't mind keeping it for 2 years!
Just a quick update - I was just in the Vodafone branch in Durham who told me that they had an email this morning telling them that the stores weren't going to stock it so it's online/telesales only.
double posting...sorry

Go for it Dave, you know you want to!
And when you get it, as your first job can you find a way of getting rid of the branding, please?
I've signed up on Vodafone for £34 + VAT per month, 18 months, and get 900 mins + unlimited TXT + 500mb data.
What are you guy's getting for £25 per month? If I'm getting a raw deal I may ask them to change it for me, or I have until Monday to decide to send it back within the 'peace of mind' return period.
I'm getting 500 minutes, unlimited landline and internet (but the AUP will be 50MB) and 250 texts

Good luck again.

for 25 a month i get 600 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet i.e 500mb...but i did pay 196 for the phone....now i jus checked the website and they are selling the same contract for 170...i feel a bit cheated! im gna call them tomorrow and ask for a small refund atleast! every little helps!

Apparently you have 7 days 'make your mind up time' on the phone ( although I thought the Distance Selling Regs was 14 days, but could be wrong) so if you are within that you have a good bargaining position

Good News! I'm beginning to like Vodafone
Does anyone know if the Vodafone TP2's are SIM unlocked?
Dave
mines sim unlocked.. tried with a three sim and orange...both passed a call test
My one is unlocked too - was using it with T-mobile before my number was ported.
I'm also pleased with Vodafone so far, and there coverage seems better than T-mobile so far where I live in Aberdeen.

Well, as Zero hour is fast approaching on what i have been told by business cs at T-Mobile (UK) that the TP2 aka Vario 5 will be out on Tuesday (Subject to anymore push backs) i thought id start a thread so we can discuss our findings etc.
I will be giving them a call on Tuesday to see if i can get my grubby little hands on it and will let you all know if i get any success!
Those of you that know me from the Kaiser Section of this board will know I did the same with the Vario 3 and ended up with a huge mass of "Im calling now, cmooooon" and it was rather funny to read!
Jas
I am interested in a vario 5 too. I wonder what the price and contract will be.
Well i spoke to a chap at T-Mobile on Tuesday last week and i asked about pricing and as it wasnt out he couldnt be sure etc but said he thought that it would be free on my account which is a Business Flext 35 + WnW Pro which comes to ~£45/month.
I'll give them a call today and see what they say.

I think it ought to be free for £45 a month. I currently pay half that for the basic package (including the basic webn'walk) which is OK for me.
keep us updated mate, im interested as to when they'll be getting stock, contract runs out on wednesday and mpd have been messing me about a bit!
id imagine it'll be free on a £35/month contract...
Gah, you got a date!
When I rang Orange last week I got 'within the next two weeks'.
Blimey! That would be quick... i remember when we used to wait months from a HTC release to a branded version.
I currently have a pre-order paid for and waiting for an Acer M900 and (diferences aside) I will possibly get which ever I can first .... and as i'm already on TMob, this could be the deciding factor!
Although, after my TD I swore I would never get another HTC device .....
Surely this cannot be true!!!!

No FM Radio? Then its a no-buy for me. I need my Absolute Radio going around the M25 in the mornings.
I don't get why everyone trips over the missing radio. If you use the radio a lot, why not buy a portable one (they are cheap) with a 3,5 mm headphone jack.
because i'd then need to carry ANOTHER device in my very small motorbike jacket pockets - so, a converged device (Read, contains FM radio) is exactly what i need.
I just called T-Mobile UK to enquire about the availablility of this phone as I too am due an upgrade and they say it is NOT on there list for release this week
John
hardly surprising that the left hand and right hand dont know what they are doing.
Your best bet, unless your in a REAL rush, is to wait. Wasn't it supposed to be tomorrow? Surley you can wait for that
yah tmob telling me nada to tomorrow
Well an update for you all:
Ive basicly spent the entire day on the phone to T-Mobile (reorganising contracts - not just pestering them about a release date!) and ended up getting quite high up the ladder and they have started playing the "Well it is coming soon but it could be another couple of months yet" card.
To be honest and sorry to let everyone down from an update point of view, ive just ordered one sim free from work so i wont be getting any more updates from them, Although i am on the "High Priority First Call" list so they will call me as soon as it comes out.... apparently, no doubt we shall know here before they ring anyway though.
Mine should be arriving tomorrow and ill try and do a nice review of it but to be honest theres already a few in detail reviews and i doubt mine would cover anything that they havent already done.
I am looking forward to it though i must say!
Jas
i've landed myself an unbranded touchpro2/mda vario v from mobilephones direct on t-mobile uk. yep they are offering the touch pro 2 free on a 18 month contract at 39.15gbp monthly. no need for CID or security unlocks when hardspl get released etc. next delivery on all items so i think thats a smashing deal!
i also signed up with mobilesphonesdirect for the pro2 after i've been told the vario5 should be out by the end of June which i don't want to wait. i prefer the phone unlocked and in it's original design.
mobilephones direct
Can I ask how you guys are getting the phone for free. When I rang up they told me to ring tmobile and find out what my upgrade value was (it was £200). I gave mobilephones direct this and they said the phone would cost me £250 to upgrade. Have you all got higher upgrade status or was I just unlucky and spoke to the wrong person!

You will need CID / Sec Unlock unless you got a pre-release version.
Even then most pre-rel devices are CID locked (by that I mean need Hard SPL to flash unsigned custom ROMs) still. You can check sec unlock status in the bootloader. Does it say Security unlocked at the top?
Dave
how did you get your upgrade value? I've tried and nobody from tmob will give it to me.

Now this deal looks good too but says nothing about daily browsing costs, nor does it on the Vodafone website.
Can anyone confirm that both above deals incurr EXTRA browsing/email/surfing costs?
I want to buy my HTC TP2 today but there is no point getting it and having to incurr large daily charges for a device that really is going to primarily be connected to the net daily.
Cheers
Both deals have inclusive internet so there will be no additional charge.
The T-Mobile £1 charge only applies if you don't have an add on Web n'Walk package, which the contract you quoted does have.
I think the W&W deal has a fair use policy of 1gb. I have had W&W for a few years now and despite tethering to my laptop and using data on my WM devices heavily I have never had a letter from T-Mobile asking me to reduce my use.
However I am concerned about the difficulty in contacting MPD. My TP2 is misbehaving. Not sure yet if it is a hardware fault but lack of communications with MPD worries me. Guess I will have to contact HTC but I want the option of a replacement handset rather than a repair.
Thank you for you're reply aerotec.
Well to be honest I have contacted them by email (wednesday) with no reply and called them around 10 times since then with no reply including leaving voice mail this morning - this is very worrying and a major issue if anything goes wrong with the phone, it has totally put me off.
I'm considering Expansys now as they have returned all my emails quickly, I didnt even have to call.
I hope yours gets sorted mate.
if you go directly to voda mate, on their bussiness page, you can get a free HTC TP2, 900 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet for £34.03 + vat... hold in, i'll link it.
HERE IT IS
18 month contract... are the ones you list 18mnth ?
It looks alot better to go directly to voda or am i missing something ?
EDIT : To get the plan i was on about, hit the 18 month click box and click 'view all plans'
The MPD deal is still pretty good. I took the 12 month deal as it worked out about the same as buying it unconnected.
I just hope I can sort out the handset problem though it has worked ok today.
I drove 5hrs yesterday and the TP2 kept giving me connection errors and Tomtom kept hanging on me. Why can't my gadgets just WORK!

Thats the exact deal I got, although they don't have any more stock till monday apparently, but there was one available in my local store so she reserved it for me, and i picked it up same day.
MPD supply a non-brandaed, stock HTC TP2, where is vodafones is branded is the only real difference.
Thats a damn good deal, beats T-Mobile hands down.
I wish I could get one from my local store, but none have any.
I would prefer non-branded, but I'll definately take a look at that!
Thanks!
EDIT: Pretty sure -T-Mobile give you 1GB fair usage policy whereas Voda is 500MB?
I've just signed up for that deal aswell, and yeah, no stock till monday, I went to my local store and they'd just sold the only one they had... so i gotta wait
Apparently coz it's a bussiness phone local stores hold hardly any stock anyways..
More time to dowload goodies and fill up the 8GB card i just bought for it
EDIT : Also my local store didn't want to honour this deal as they said ' it's a bussiness only deal, were not a bussiness shop' so i'd recommend calling the number on the voda site, they were pleasant enough to deal with.
Don't go with T-Mobile, they're worse than useless.

Middlesborough (18!!)
Guildford

I quite like it (not sure how many share my opinion here though).
Was getting bored of the black HTC theme on my other HTC phones (TyTN II/Touch HD).
To change the ROM you'd just need to install a new bootloader to unlock it and then install whatever ROM. I think the stock ROMs are available on the wiki, bear in mind it invalidates your warranty though. I've not done it myself since having the original TyTN handset and loading a custom ROM but it's fairly simple, a mate of mine did his TP1 the other day when he was round my place, didn't really pay much attention but it was basically the same process.
Ok sounds easy enough, thanks.
So would this also enable me to download the official HTC ROMs and the WM 6.5? or do you need to have an unbranded HTC phone for this?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
MPD got back to me finally so all good.
So my choice is now unbranded (at extra cost £89 with a slightly inferiour voda contract) or branded (free with a better contract) - hmmm!
from how i see it... i might be wrong (i'm still wet behind the ears) you cant flash any rom to any TP2 yet untill someone comes up with a hardSPL for it (dunno about un-branded though) someone please confirm ?
From what i've read in the rom devolopment section they're working on it.
Once that's done.. you'll be able to whack any ROM on it and get rid of any branding.
Till then you gotta live with the branding i think.
Thanks - all my questions answered, much appreciated all.
The branding is AWFUL! pink white grey and black
But it is very easy to undo without flashing. There is a thread in the themes section, install one file and its gone
got mine from MPD and yeah they were a pain to get thru too via phone sometimes and email! i am very persistent so kept ringing till i got an answer sometimes 5 times back to back but i get thru. emails were answered quite quickly and i even had my contracts emailed to me for signing so i could get phone next day.............impressive! i did however speak to another gentleman who had no clue what i was on about when i enquired bout the postage of my phone. i got the t-mobile combi 30 deal where you got 700 mins plus unlimited texts w/out w&w as i already have a t-mobile line fully loaded on flext 35. it cost me £29.15 monthly and i paid £45 for phone!
that deal for £34.25 is quite good and phone is free. you get an unbranded and unlocked handset which is the biggest plus. getting the phone from voda direct means that it will come with their version of the stock rom which is not very good at all! keep ringing till MPD answers as they do eventually..............you need to get phone unbranded to truly experience the beauty of the phone. that IMO beats the lack of contact from MPD. when you do get thru you will get sorted. i think it gets rather busy in there and it is only a small shop with limited number of staff. it is also a walk in shop not online based like others. if they are busy dealing with walk in customers they won't answer phone!

pretty bad from what i have been told! you can't flash custom roms at present till hard spl is released. this will also have a security unlock that will enable you to flash custom roms. ETA is not known but it is work in progress. in branded state you will only be able to flash voda updates. HTC rom or future htc updates you will not be able to use till hrad spl is available. even if you remove the look of the phone the base rom will still be voda and that is the issue. the unbranded handset with stock rom works far better than voda branded one! IMO the choice is clear!
T-mobile are so silly, I really don't want to be stuck with a 35 quid a month price plan after getting my phone unlocked and sticking my o2 sim in it, so asked if it's ok to downgrade whithin the first 7 days, but belive it or not you cannot downgrade on t-mobile untill your last month so for me that would have been 23 months.
I took out the £35 a month plan but shortly realised it's a bit of a con as the 10 quid a month plan comes with unlimited internet and 1 free booster and you just pay 164.00 for the handset then you can just upgrade as and when you want.
So I now have to return the handset and they send out a new one on the new contract as a brand new line. I was happy to keep the phone and just knock it down and pay the 164 but you can't do it.... oh well
Obviously I had 7 days cooling off period anyway, so they are not charging me for returning the handset and are sending the packaging to post it through the post.
that is ridiculous! At least you'll get what you want. I got the £15 deal and have the unlimited free landline booster

Hang on, you signed up to an expensive contract so you could get an expensive hanset for free.
Then you're surprised to learn they just wont drastically reduce the price? I need whatever you've been smoking!
You entered into a fixed term contract, they're under no obligation to let you downgrade AT ALL. That they will let you in the last month of your deal is nothing more than goodwill.

I have consumer rights and I only found out I could not downgrade today, I don't want to be locked into a 23 month contract with no downgrade rights or were you well aware of this new policy abiet a year old that T mobile have started doing.
And while your on your high horse, they are quite happy for me to UPGRADE and take my money when times are good, but unable to downgrade when times are bad, does this seem fair to you?
O2 used to allow you to get a high cost contract and then downgrade straight to a lower tariff, however I think they stopped you doing this about 2 years ago as everyone was doing this and they eventually caught on!
I think you can downgrade your tariff on O2 after 6 months. Not 100% sure though.
Will T-Mobile check the Sim-Lock on your phone when it is returned to them?
Perfectly. Again, fixed term contract. If you didn't read all the small print, you can only really blame yourself.

The only people to blame here are T-Mobile, I am quite happy to keep the phone and change to another tariff that T mobile offer new customers, it's no different to buying a TV and then seeing it cheaper somewhere else after you have bought it and asking for a refund, or do you want to live in a country that does not offer buyers this protection?
There contracts state you have 7 days to inform us if you are not happy with the phone or contract, I have informed them that i am not happy so have to return the phone and take out "another" contract.

Ok my order has been accepted I didn't bother haggling with price just went for the £10.00 a month deal £164 up front, for the sake of a manager to just drop the price plan all this could have been avoided, and yes i know i should have ordered the correct deal in the first place, but if we all had hindsight then there would be no need for the 7 day cooling of period.

@Rusty
Sorry but your assumptions are incorrect not all Networks operate the same way at all for instance i got my TG01 for free on a 18month £35pm contract which included free Internet and Unlimited landline calls. After 6 months Orange Best Plan option kicks in so i down graded to a £20pm plan with £5 for the Internet pack and still have the Unlimited Landline calls for free. Which saves me £120 over the last year of the contract so it has reduced the overall cost of ownership and running my TG01. It's one of the things that makes Orange a better choice for me as i hate paying for my phones especially on a 18 month contract and the ability to down grade my plan after 6 months saves me money i have more incoming calls then out going and never use all my minutes.
VodaFone on the other hand only let you downgrade your plan after 12 months and it appears T-Mobile in the last month only so as long as you know this you can make the right cost choice for your needs. As always there are so many variables as to what makes the best deal and as individuals what suits some of us won't all but choice is good for the consumer.
Marc
I was informed by T-Mobile that their policy states that after half of the full contract term has passed, I'm allowed to downgrade my contract.. But when you downgrade, you're only allowed to go one price plan down. So from £35 to £30, etc.

Sounds like a bit of a whinge to me......It's a contract, that is up to your to read all the fine print. Assumptions from other carriers is just stupid. Neway you should be happy they are at least changing it for you.

Nothing wrong with the phone, love it still
Question for those that have bought a desire from CPW, what kind of contracts are they offering in store? Are they any better than the ones they have online because they all look rubbish without internet?!
Thanks
Jon

Yeah the ones they have on their website are pretty appaling, will see if i can get 20/25 pm by paying a bit up front...
the phone was free, i didnt ask about flexibooster im affraid. They did say the unlimited web was the current offer and mentioned next week that could be free broadband or some other offer. But, they did say i could change the unlimited web to another service if the tariff wasnt right.
HTH
It's worth checking out what that means - if you get the contract direct from t-mobile you'll get unlimited internet on an android phone no maatter what, then you can choose an additional flex booster for free. Call t-mobile support and they'll confirm if you qualify for this. If you do, could you please post here to let us know - not knowing whether I'll get unlimited itnernet and a flex booster is the main reason I've not bought from CPW yet (I've been told both yes and no from them, so not trusting them)
Mine was with t mobile. £ 35, 1200 minutes, 500 text unlimited internet.

Yeah I bought from cpw, got 900m 500 txt and unlimited web. Just spoke with t-mobile and they've confirmed the unlimited web is the flexi booster. You don't get a second choice, but you can change it each month if you want.
For someone just moving to the UK is it possible to buy a phone on contract?
Apparently some sites say you need a 3 year address proof before you can sign a contract? Is it not possible for some one who has just moved to the UK to work to get a phone on contract? Really want the Desire
There must be a way to as a lot of people come over to work. Surely they don't wait three years!
The way contracts work over here is you will need proof of identity and a utility bill with your current UK address.
If you lived within europe for the last three years then I beleieve you will be ok however if not then you should still be able to get a contract but they wont provide you with a phone for a certain amount of time.
My GF when we went to take her out a contract at the age of 18 because she had no credit history they would give her a contract but no phone even though she had been here 18 years! So in the end did it in my name.
Best bet is to phone up and ask around te providers see what they say. You might even have better luck doing a contract in store (will need photo proof)
Good luck getting the Desire though it seems this country is sold out of it I spent the whole day trying to source one (signed my contract over a week ago and T-mobile told me today they have no idea when they will be able to get one)
Stores all around my county had waiting lists of 20+ and refused to put me down as their lists where to big. After alot of searching (and arguing with T-Mobile because they wouldnt order from two places that had stock) I finally managed to get mine and went and picked it up this afternoon (after they conned me to paying another £30 for the phone!)
Good Luck
Can't you even get one SIM-Free? If you can afford it, obviously

Dam they made you pay a lot!
And thanks a lot
Sim Free would be quite expensive sadly for now.
This person who would be moving there would be working with a law firm and they would provide proof of employment and with his Annual salary and contract length specified and plus he would have enough money in his account so he should pass the credit check right?
I just moved from South Africa to the UK... three weeks ago. Walked into O2 last week and walked out with a Desire on contract. No problem. All u need is a bank account and debit card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks a lot mate. Just PM'ing you now.

What all did they need? They din't check your 3 years address proof? And as for credit check what did they see?
What you may want to look into mate is buying a PAYG HTC Desire i got my O2 one for £330 then get a simplicty sim.
From O2 at the moment I think they do 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet and your not tied to the contract its like rolling every 30 days. You ring them and cancel when you want to.
Won't let me post links yet but go to O2 then tariffs and Sim only Simplicty.
Also the website doesn't show the desire on PAYG but it is available in the shops.
Hmm but buying it for 330 is rather expensive right now. He'd rather take it up on contract. Thanks though
You may be able to do a full contract it all depends on what they decide its their discression. I just didn't have to provide 3 year proof of address nor did my finacee but because she had just turned 18 and didn't have a credit history like I said they told her she would have to be on contract for 6 months before they gave her a phone so I did it in my name for her.
I bought my first phone on a contract in the UK 1 week after I got here.
I bought it online, and I didn't have to provide anything... and when they asked on the form online for how long I have been living at the address I was renting, I said more than 12 months (as instructed by one of the indian online chat asistants ) ).
Actually I signed up to a £15/month contract for the phone (and got a free Nokia 6500slide) and also a 50% discounted £7.5 mobile broadband contract, so 2 separate contracts.
They called me the next day and said my credit checks are OK for the broadband contract but for the phone I had to pay a £75 guarantee which I will get back after the first 6 months of the contract... payed over the phone, everything came the next day, and that was it... (this happened in September 2008)
It was with Three.co.uk - but I won't recommend them because their coverage sucks if you come in the South-West around Swindon... The London area, Birmingham area are ok though... didn't use their network anywhere else in the UK...

Oh. Thanks a lot
Hmm he can lie about living for more than 12 months I guess.
Will this work with other places like mobiles.co.uk? And what if he goes to a Carphone Warehouse shop.
From what I've read at various places the address should be not much of an issue. So hopefully he can get his phone.
If he does take the phone in the name of a relative then can he do something so that he's paying out of his own account?
You can't lie about how long you have been living at a certain place because they are likley to run a check and it is illegal.
And no generally the money has to be taken out of the account with the same name as the contract or a joint account with that persons name on it.
Try going directly for a contract in his own name with phone they may give it to him.
I got my Desire two weeks after my 18th birthday. No credit check required as far as I know. I did order online though. I haven't missed a payment yet XD. So I guess my credit score should be going through the roof!
Just because you haven't missed a payment on one contract doesn't make you credit rating go through the roof sadly. its also based on sex / age / location (if the rest of your street have bad credit ratings then that makes your bad as well)
Very unfair if you ask me....
And they would of performed a check if they are providing a phone on contract but they don't always tell you - not sure if they tell you when ordering online as I have never done that - but they still will do the check.

Yeah that is what we want. He'll have all his address proof, employment proof and a ready bank account so hopefully he won't have any problem with it.
Is Vodafone's service good?
Vodafone are ok. We have them here at our company with about 100 mobiles and they are known for being the best coverage in the UK but in all honesty I would say my T-Mobile phone has better coverage then the Vodafone's we have here at work but they aren't bad.
Had a couple of problems with Customer Service in the last 4 months but they got resovled in a okish amount of time.
Hmm
That 30 pounds a month plan with the Booster seems decent.
Would I be able to get it at the Carphone Warehouse store though? Going online would take time and he needs to get his phone within 2 weeks.
