IP: I must put it in
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Standardgateway 172.16.1.1

Could well be that the DNS is remaining, what happens if you put TMob web DNS as 2ndry on WLAN ?
Also could be that the TMob proxy comes back on, I have this sometimes on Raphael, when disconnecting from WLAN, TMob proxy is set to on.......... strange bug.
Cheers,
Beasty
As far as I know T-Mobile has no DNS ???

Might be a simple solution and I'm just being dense, same old story dont read the manuals.
But, how do I disable the GPRS default ?
WIFI says its connected, when I try and browse thru the XDA it starts bloody GPRS?
Steve
I think your wifi must not be fully working, sounds like it not being routed to your internet connection.
For me once I have connected to my Linksys AP (WAG54G) if I use Pocket IE or Email it works without trying to connect to GPRS.
You could always test by turning on flight mode to disable the GPRS.
Couple of questions,
1. Can you browse to your AP config page with PIE
2. On the AP config page does it show your XDAIIs as being connected
3. What are your AP settings, does this tie up with what you have set on the XDAIIs
4. Does your AP work with other WiFi devices ie a laptop
5. Ensure your AP is set up for either 802.11b or mixed but not 802.11g only
My general advice wuld be to start with really simple setting on your AP ie no encryption, not mac filtered, broadcast SSID, DHCP enabled etc, once you get going turn on the settings one at a time till you get the set up you require.
Erm... thats probably enough to get started with
Good luck
Ok have done as you suggested,
1.no cant see Ap from pda
2.AP config page doesnt have this facility
3.probably where the confusion starts
4.WiFi works fine with 2 other laptops
5 My netgear mp3 box is 802.11b
The confusion is that when you put the XDA2s in flight mode to disable the GPRS in ditches the Wifi too, but even when it says its connected the IE says cannot find page etc.
Check that you have told your XDA that your network card connects to the internet, and not just your work network. Or that your work network connects to the internet. I'm not entirely sure where it is, but the setting is there somewhere!
I agree with the comment above mine is set set to internet.
The fact that you cant see you AP config page suggest you do not have an IP address for your network. What do you seen on the WLAN manger page? Does it show your AP's SSID and the other settings? From WLAN maanger what do you see when you go to Tools -> Network Cards, Is there a tab for "Wireless" at the bottom? This is where you can set up the XDA settings to atch your AP.
Sorry for the misleading flight mode suggestion.
I'd still suggest going to basic settings on your AP until you get up and running. Its worth the effort it's great being able to surf the web through a decent connection rather than slow, expensive GPRS.

one step further forward
ok i can see my ap set up page
but i cant get any further? on pocket pc do you not need the www ?
ie http://google.com instead of http://www.google.com?
steve
The www bit doesn't depend on the pocketpc, if you need it normally with a pc you need it with the xda. its a start that u can see the AP config. Can u access the internet ok from a laptop through the AP ok?
Steve
Did you sort this out? Same problem here - cannot set up wi-fi and GPRS. Will always try and connect to GPRS.
Cheers

xda2s wifi with the linksys
hmmmmm
eventually sussed out the problem, basically its all down to the bloody wep keys. and a bit of singnal strength too.
Ideally it would be nice if you could preset your pda that once you enter your house it automatically connects to your wifi, wouldnt it, in theroy you should be able to.
But for some strange reason if you dont get a good strong signal to your pda from the linksys, it doesnt see the wep code. and wont automatically connect. to prove this insanity to myself i temp disabled the security on my wifi and my pda auto logged on whenever i got anywhere near the house. mad mad mad.
to overcome this anoyance i have learnt my wep key off by heart and i let my pda auto discover my wifi then manually log on!!!
At work the wireless network has global IPv6 connectivity and the webservers in another network are acessible via IPv4 or IPv6, the web access suceeds, it's really fast, and the IPv6 enabled sites are accessed via IPv6 automatically.
At home, my local network only have IPv4 connectivity (Cheap Linksys router/ISP limitation) and when I try to access my work sites or any other IPv6 acessible site, the PDA spends 30-60 seconds trying to access the site via IPv6 and then falls back to IPv4 and shows the site ...
This is really annoying for "browser" navigation ...
(I'v captured the packets sent by the PDA if anyone want to deep analyse them ...)
Does anyone know any solution for this problem ?
Thanks.
im trying to get an internet connection through my wifi connection. i have done search's and lots of people seem to be asking the same question but nobody has the answer.
at the moment i can access my c: using an application called Resco explorer. but i can not connect to the internet. im not sure what setting i should have on the wifi manger and on my pc. im also using AOL as my isp.
PLS PLS help
Edit:
also i can not connect to activesync (version 3.8.0) via wifi. maybe if i was able to connect to this the internet would work as it does when its docked??????
looks like a no then
I got mine working but setting my wireless network adapter to connect to "Work".
Under Settings>Connections>Tasks>Manage existing connections>Proxy Settings> check the "This network connects to the internet" box
then
Under Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks> "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" to "My Work Network" (and the same with one for private network)
Also in your active sync settings, make sure your connection settings allow network (Ethernet) and RAS connections.
From previous research around this, i'm pretty sure you can only use the internet pass through under "WORK" settings only.
*thought i'd better register and contribute as i've gained a fair bit from this forum.
no good anyother ideas. i have searched through hundreds of threads and still no go
help pls
Make sure you have "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP" checked in your TCP/IP Advanced settings.
i have done this on both my wifi network and my isp network.
still not working
Have you checked if you're getting an IP address from your Wireless Router's DHCP server? Also DNS settings and Gateway address should be there.
You can check this easily by using vxUtil (free )
these are my settings:
tiacxwln1 - tiacxwln compatible wireless
Ip address 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1
primary DNS 192.168.0.1
secondary dns
primary wins
seconfdary wins
DHCPs server 192.168.0.1
under serial usb
IP address 192.168.55.101
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.55.100
primary DNS 127.0.0.1
Getting this error when I tried to allow my broadband connection to share with my wifi connection. If I unplug the wifi connection and try and share with another network I don’t get any errors.
Internet connection sharing (ics) cannot be enabled due to IP address conflict on the network. ICS requires the host be configured to use 192.168.0.1 please ensure that no other client on the network is configured to use 192.168.0.1
hmmm ... ever had the same problem. all devices are able to connect to the same router except mine sx66.
then i change the router's channel to '1' .. tada .. now everyone is connected. it might sounds silly, but it worked for me.
try changing your ap wireless channel.

i found the problem with activesync 3.8 and 4.0 somehow, so i reverted back to 3.7, now wifi can sync.
afaik, connecting to internet has nothing to do with activesync. its a direct connection to wifi router. use work location and check the proxy settings if u hv any? (at home i use connect to internet without proxy, at work i use connect to internet with proxy).
Also, for Activsync with wifi, make sure that the WINS server address is that of yr PC u want to sync with.
i have a orange m3100 version of the hermes.
recently i flashed it with schaps 3.54b rom
now i can't use my wifi router/network @ home nor another wifi router/network @ work.
in fact i'm well connected, i'm sure of this because from another computer of the networks, i can ping the (static) ip of my hermes. i tried changing and changing again my ip and tested it.
but the hermes cant go on internet.
i use the right gateway and DNS in each case but no surf in pocket ie.
any solutions or other tests i can do?
in french if possible since i and my rom are in french.
thank you.
update : i made some tests :
it is nos a dns problem : i put the right gateway and dns on the smartphone but i cant get a website by typing its ip in pocket ie adress bar (other browsers dont work better) and i cant even access my router admin interface.
when i'm trying wifi with static ip or dhcp on my m3100, i can ping its ip from another computer of my networks and the smartphone responds ok, and i can see its mac adress in the connected clients on my router config screen. But the smartphone can't ping anyone.
i asked a friend who told me that the proxy (192.168.10.100 :8080 ) used for the connection to orangeworld in gprs/edge is also used when i try to connect via wifi and that is why it cant connect nowhere because my personal network is configured differently and without a proxy.
if i delete the proxy my connections will cost me more when i use gprs.
if i configure my router like this (192.168.10.xxx) with a proxy on 8080 it could work but only on my network and not @ my workplace or somewhere else where network params will be different.
any ideas or solutions ?
wow ! so many people trying to help :/
well i found a temporary solution to my problem, probably not the best one but the best i can do by myself so if someone wants to help : thank you
it was actually a proxy problem.
i looked in the registry and found a key where the proxy adress was detailed : 192.168.10.100:8080
i have exported this value as "proxon.reg"
then i modified the value by deleting its content and i exported the empty value as "proxoff.reg"
now i have my "proxy switch".
before activating the wifi and starting ie, i lauch "proxoff.reg" which clean the registry for the proxy data and magic : ie connects fine.
and when i want tu surf via my provider orange, i desactivate the wifi and launch "proxon.reg" which restore the correct proxy data to the registry. and i can surf on gprs/edge.
all this is fine when i switch off the phone functions in the comm manager.
but now i need someone to tell me how i can automatize this for the wifi and edge connections because if the wifi signal gets too weak, i dont want my phone to switch to the gsm when the proxy is desactivated.
i hope you can understand my english.
please help.
In the last version of BatteryStatus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751) you can find, among the others stuffs, the "Disable Proxy for WiFi" option (see the Tools tab)... Maybe more simple than "regg-in" on and off? I'm ok with it, try and see if it's ok for you also...
Bye!
hey kamaal i just downloaded the batterstatus program but im not seeing the "Disable Proxy for WiFi" option in the Tools tab
***edit:
sorry i downloaded the extended version beta and it was there
Since few days my dataconnection gets lost, when I try to use it. For example when I start Messenger and try to login, TP2 connects then it says Dataconnection is not available check your connection settings. After several attempts it connects stays stable for one or two minutes then again connection breaks down. I also tryed to reset the data connection via connection-wizard, nothing helps. I think something in the registry is messed up...
I don't want to do a hardreset and install all the programs again. Does someone have a good advice for me?
My Rhodium is the same situation. I am a Japanese, and mopera of Docomo is used.
[Understand now]
Cellular Line IP address & Default Gateway is same.
Primary DNS & Secondary DNS is active. I receive PING.
I can't receive PING form other site (mail server etc).
I did hardreset. But my Rhodium is not connect to Internet.
It investigates for a while. If you have good idea, then advice to me.
Same here with MTS Serbia.
I check data connection settings and all adjustment are same like automatic configuration setup but i cant get back data connections.
Hello every one.
I have understood the cause of this problem.
Perhaps, every one set WiFi's DNS server at manual.
If it's possible, set DHCP. Then DNS server is active and you can get e-mail and you can access to Internet.
I think this problem is WM network access process.
I will not use DHCP. I research other process for GPRS.
Thanks msaf, your advice resolve my problem!
I set WiFi's DNS server at manual and when i set on default i got gprs connection again
Hi,
This is an unusual problem as the wireless network card shouldn't have anything to do with GPRS!! Anyway, it seems having automatic DNS for wifi does solve the problem of GPRS but my Wifi connection will not work unless I specify the DNS manually. Therefore, it is a hassle to change between these 2 options whenever I need to change between WIFI and GPRS.
Any way to fix this once and for all??
