Internet Thetering
Hi,
I'm not sure I understand you question...but if you ask if it's possible to do internet thetering, then the answer is yes!
All the last HTC come ready for internet thetering...
1) Plug one USB in your PC the mini USB in the phone
2) choose internet sharing
3) enjoy surfing @ 3.5 G
Hope it helps you
BTW TP2 is a killer machine, 10'000x better than the TP1

if by tethering you mean when the text messages appear like a chat, then yes it does that by default

Yes, I have tried it. Browsing on my laptop with the TP2 on the 3g network. Works flawlessly

Hmm, that is not tethering. You are talking about threaded messaging, the O.P is talking about using his TP2 as a modem to get on the internet from a computer.
I hope your reply was deliberately funny on purpose...

Should be no problem...My concern is if AT&T or other US carries will put in software blocks to keep its customers from using the tethering feature without paying for it on top of the normal data service fee. I think they will, but I'm sure its nothing a new custom rom will not cure.

I use Internet Sharing with Tmobile USA all the time, and it works fine with my unlimited data plan.

How to get Windows Live to connect over Wifi?

I am using vp3gs 3.61 rom with windows live messenger version 10.6.0031.2600. no matter what I do it won't connect on my WPA-PSK enabled router. I can connect fine to the internet.
Any special setup I need to do to get it to work?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT
Could someone on ATT disable the phone and use WIFI only and see if you can connect to LIVE?
I am using 10.6.0031.1600(older than yours) but I am able to connect to live services using the wifi with WPA-PSK.
I am using my own cooked rom.
Search in all the forums I remember some people had the simillar issues and had some 'workarounds'
Sorry I do not really remember.
I too also had a problem with .2600, reverted to .1600 and all is good over wifi. By the way, I'm using WPA TKIP on my wifi.
Tried that one too and still get the "there was a problem signing you in to messenger" error after checking internet connectivity.
try these ideas.
1 ensure your wifi settings are to internet and not work
2 ensure you dnt have the ip address set up in exceptions (these ips are only for intranet)
3 turn off your phone entirely. soft reset your phone. check that wifi is still internet and not work.
4 turn on wifi only. check that u have normal internet access. emails and hotmail etc work ok. then open messenger and sign in.
5 if you have to, use wlm switch user command and relogin.
this should work. once u have run and got it working, you can turn your phone back on and it should continue to use wifi and not 3g
s.

Still times out on checking internet connection.
I get email and internet fine. but no WLM.
I am using ATT. What should there be under Connections?
I have tried 2 My ISP and Media.net on My ISP it times out automatically, on Media.net it takes a while to time out.
Also did a hard reset to make sure that it wasnt anything I had installed. With the stock rom I still get the time out.
the proxy server u r using will b blocking that port.
I use telstra in australia, internet and push email works with proxy on, but wlm doesnt.
so i just turn off proxy and everything works except some of the telstra stuff which i dont want anyway.
proxy tends to give a garden firewall of their preferred content.
dunno how to deal with att, but suggest one of your connections should allow you to bypass the proxy styled firewall garden of att.
soz i dont have it to help u further, except to point u towards the proxy manager.
just to reiterate and emphasis the telstra proxy manager controls over rides and screws up 3g/next G connections AND my wifi.
only by turning this proxy manager off can i use wifi and 3g fully.
Thanks, there is a cab that disables the proxy on the att phone, so I disabled it, but that didnt help either.
Wlm 10.6.0031.2600
Hi, does anyone have the cab or installer for the latest WLM 10.6.0031.2600? Can someone post it or make it available for download? Thanks a million
Is anyone who has ATT able to use Windows Live Messenger?
Okay since WLM obviously doesnt work over wifi. How do you guys setup your outlook to get Hotmail?

Absolutely. I use it all the time. Mostly through 3G but sometimes through my home wireless network. Never had a problem.
Memnoch30, what version of WLM you using and do you have it set any special way in connections to use WIFI?
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem, I got an interesting PM stating another person has the same problem as I do. If someone else could do me a favor, turn off the phone in comm manager, but keep wifi on. Can you still connect to Live???
Anyone? Thanks in advance
Hi
Just try to keep the Red button pressed ~3s (it will cancel the GPRS connection) then Messenger will use the wifi one (i do like that since i use pocket msn).

Doesn't work for me, all that does is close out Live messenger.
anything else I need to try?
It doesnt work even if I turn off GPRS and leave wifi only.

MSN Messenger on T-Mobile MDACIII

Hi, i recently installed MSN Messenger (the Live package) on my MDACII. Its all working great, and i am using GPRS connection. The only problem is, it occasionally comes up with a error saying "The wireless network is not available right now. Messenger is trying to re-establish a connection", at which i have to sign out and back in to connect.
Is it saying it cannot connect to WiFi? my MDACIII, being a UK model doesnt have the WiFi hardware, so it physically cant, or is it talking about the GPRS connection?
Thanks,
Yes your GPRS connection is a wireless connection.

yeh, i assumed it was talking about the GPRS connection it shouldnt randomly loose it tho! it seems that if u leave it for a while it disconnects, although it shows it connected on the top bar of my phone.
Does the GPRS automatically disconnect if its not used for a while?
Cheers
I'm not sure because I dont use GPRS myself..
Try searchhing T-Mobile's FAQ.. Im sure that will give you a proper answer because I think that the connection timeout could depend on the operator you're on.

Sling Player issues on TP2

Is anyone else having issues with the Sling Player not working with the TP2 over the T-Mobile US 3G Network.
I get the error message - "Unable to connect to Slingbox" only when I connect over the T-Mobile US 3G network.
When I connect over Wi-Fi from outside it connects and works perfectly.
Out of curiousity I tried Internet Sharing from the device launched Slingplayer from my computer using the tethered connection and it works perfectly.
This leads me to believe that T-Mobile is blocking the connection. Any ideas to get around it.
On a side note my SIM card is provisioned for the Total Internet and the Slingplayer works fine when I use the same SIM card on a Dash 3G.
I have the stock T-Mo ROM and no mods done to it.
Please help
Here in the UK my sling media player works fine over the 3 network and wifi. So I would think you are right and it's your network that is blocking it or some settings need to be changed.
I'm in Atlanta on the T-Mo 3G network and TP2. Slingplayer works great, way better than when I was with ATT. By the way I have the unlimited internet plan of $34.99 if that helps.
Are you using the finder ID ?
At the moment it's working ok for me using the (easier) sling finder ID. But,
I have have seen problems connecting in the past.
I'm currently running Energyrom Genesis (WM 6.5). I dont remember if the problem occured when I was running the original 6.1.
In any case, you might have better luck using direct IP access instead of the Sling Finder. It's kinda complicated if you've never delt with setting up Port Forwarding on your router.
You also will probably need to set up a dynamic DNS server to find you IP from the outside (unless you have a static IP - dyndns.com). I don't remember if the sling box can take care of this (I have a network HDD that performs the function).
There are instructions on the Sling web site.
This also has an advantage that you don't need to bounce through the sling site to find your box.
works well for me over $5.99 tzones, so its gotta be the settings you're using. as mentioned, try both the sling finder ID or the direct ip.
Works for me on unbranded TP2 on Tmobile. I suspect you need to go to Tmobile internet connection settings and untick Use proxy. I have done this to also get Exchange direct push email to work
doesn't work for me on new AT&T
I just got my AT&T Tilt2 today and Slingplayer isn't working. I get the same message. It works on my laptop, so it's not the Sling side. It also worked on my Fuze.
try making sure "use proxy" is not ticked. I do this as it seems better for surfing etc (never fan of proxies) but HAVE to do it for Exchange Activesync to work

In my Connections, the Media Net setting under the Proxy section has "This network connects to the internet" checked, but there is no check on the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet"
I went back to my Fuze and Slinplayer doesn't work on that now.
Could if be AT&T? I upgraded my phone but did not want to change anything on my account as I already had unlimited data and a text message package. Is there something they could have done there that will cause this? As previously stated, Slingplayer works on my laptop. The problem started mid-week this week about the time my new ATT Tilt2 would have been 'activated' and shipped.
Thanks!
Did you test it on WiFi? I loaded Sling on my stock AT&T Tilt2 and it works just fine (I had unlimited data before the switch). I had to add my Slingboxes seperately by entering their finder ID's but after that it worked.
I first tried it traveling in Austin TX and now in So Calif and it's all good. I'm also using WMLonglife and the radio stays normally in Edge, start Sling and the radio now auto switches to 3G and streams away. Close the prog and it switches back to Edge 2G.

I did test it on wifi this morning ... no luck. That's when I thought it likely wasn't the service and it was the application (it was around 2:00 am when I was messing with this hours ago and was beat). I just don't know what has changed on the phone app. I guess I'll try deleting the current slingbox and add it back from scratch and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.

Still nothing ... I've got the wap.cingular. Can you give me the step by step? I'm sorry, but I really need some assitance here. If I don't get this working, the Tilt2 goes back. I'm not sure what the problem is, as someone suggested bandwidth. But if Slingplayer is working for others, it should be working for me. If AT&T changed something on my simple phone upgrade (wanted to keep all cell, data and text services the same as my current), then I need to know. But if there's a simple setting I need to change, I'll do that. I am just unclear as to what eh exact steps are ... 1, 2, 3, etc. Sorry, but I need it simple since this doesn't appear to be working for me.
I just went back to clear storage and have the standard AT&T ROM. I ran the SlingPlayer Mobile .exe and loaded that to the phone. Please tell me what to do next. It seems as though if should be pretty simple from this step forward for those who have it working.
I need it that simple as everything I've tried isn't working.
Thanks!
I'd say make sure you have the latest Sling Mobile player. Mine worked straight off after I entered the slingfinder numbers. I did NOT have the proxy removed and it works just fine via WiFi, 2G, and 3G, but YouTube would not play videos until I removed proxy tonight.
Make sure that you can open a browser and freely surf the web, go to Sling Media, make sure you do have internet access?

If you tether a PC thru your 3G phone and can run Slingbox player on the PC at 640x480 or better (as I regularly do) then it can't be a bandwidth issue. It is an artificial limitation of the PPC client.
It's working now ... for whatever reason?!
Well, if all else fails, then load the program again. This time it worked. Not sure what happened the first time around, but it's working now. I'm not sure what happened differently, but I guess it doesn't matter. It's working now. Thanks for the recommendations! Cheers!

maybe tri the wifi router cab should be floating around here somewhere
Be careful though...depending on your carrier, and their data plan, it might be considered tethering, and they could sock you for a huge fee if you get silly downloading a ton of stuff. I use mine once in a while, to check email or one or two web pages, when I'm in an area where I don't have wi-fi for my laptop.

In addition, there is a standard application on WM called Internet Sharing - it's for tethering via a USB cable.

I'm on Tmobile and can't seem to get this to work. The WiFi Router sharing works fine, but the USB cable does not. It says it's connected to the internet but nothing ever happens and windows network troubleshooting says it can't resolve a DNS server. I'd just use the WiFi but I don't have a card in my desktop. Any suggestions?

If you're attempting to use the Internet Sharing app to no avail, try changing the Network Connection drop down, inside of the app. Try selecting T-Mobile Data, as opposed to T-Mobile Internet, and it should work for ya...peace...

That drop down has TMo Data, TMo MMS, and TMo WModem Link. I was using data like you said, and it didn't work. You can also set up new connections or edit the config on existing but nothing stands out as out of place to me.

Internet connection

Hi guys,
its time to renew my mobile contract and I would like to have the HTC Desire.
But before getting it, I would like to ask a question.
At home, at university and at my friends home I have internet connection via Wifi, so I figered out I don't need a data option in my contract.
Now the T-Mobile guy told me I absolutely need one, because the cell phone connects with it to download updates.
In a youtube video I saw someone switching to wifi only at the welcome wizard after first power-on.
So, now my question: I'm really most of the time connected with wifi, do I really need data option????
I don't use social networks, so friends steam has no updates, same with the weather!!
Thanks for answers
Technically you don't need a data contract - you can switch off mobile internet and just rely on WiFi.
However, IMHO, if you're going to do that you're probably better off with a dumbphone and an iPod Touch, because you're really not using the phone as it was intended and you're going to get infinitely superior battery life.
Just an opinion - I appreciate that there are plenty of reasons why you might want the Desire regardless!
Regards,
Dave
Ok, thanks...
And yes, there are plenty of reasons.
Whats with vacation? E.g. when I go for two weeks out of my Wifi area?
Will it go online then or wait until I'm in Wifi again?
Btw: In my area there is only Edge available, so even if I wanted I can not use it as it was intended to!
Dennis
If you switch off mobile internet, it won't go online via the a cellular network.
If you want to be really, really, sure that it will never go online via cellular, you can delete the APN (i.e. you are worried you or someone else will turn on mobile internet accidentally).
Regards,
Dave
OK, that is a good idea.
I made that with my very old phone i bought 2003. There you had the option to set more than one APN profile. So i made up an empty one and made it the default one.
So I could switch to the real on in case I really need it.
Maybe you can tell my how to do this in android if you have time?
But thanks so far for your help.
Dennis
You can add the APN in the Phone settings. Not that different from WM
But I only use the Internet connection switch on my desktop.
I can simply switch it off and the phone will never connect to internet via GSM.
Unless someone messes with your phone and turns it on again it is a 100% guarantee that it will never connect via GSM.
I don't bother with APN anymore.
