Hi, i recently installed MSN Messenger (the Live package) on my MDACII. Its all working great, and i am using GPRS connection. The only problem is, it occasionally comes up with a error saying "The wireless network is not available right now. Messenger is trying to re-establish a connection", at which i have to sign out and back in to connect.
Is it saying it cannot connect to WiFi? my MDACIII, being a UK model doesnt have the WiFi hardware, so it physically cant, or is it talking about the GPRS connection?
Thanks,
Yes your GPRS connection is a wireless connection.

yeh, i assumed it was talking about the GPRS connection it shouldnt randomly loose it tho! it seems that if u leave it for a while it disconnects, although it shows it connected on the top bar of my phone.
Does the GPRS automatically disconnect if its not used for a while?
Cheers
I'm not sure because I dont use GPRS myself..
Try searchhing T-Mobile's FAQ.. Im sure that will give you a proper answer because I think that the connection timeout could depend on the operator you're on.

I just looked into their FAQ but they only got 3 q&a (what is gprs, how much does it cost.. ) about GPRS
And searching this forum doesnt help because alot of people want their device to auto-disconnect

Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....
i'm almost insane because of the live messenger...
i've never connected live messenger by wifi since i flashed wm6. it always appears that "there's a connectivity problem. make sure that you're in an area with good reception and try again".
If someone here could connect, would you please share me your configuration for the connection. Thank you very much,
PS, i'm in france with the operator SFR.

To use skype you have to be connected to a WiFi network but I want a program that doesn't wifi connection. I want to talk directly with wifi. I hope you understand me :/
Do you mean cellular internet? You can use Skype with that.
What you are saying is contraditory and confusing.
If you want to make voice calls through wifi, you need to be connected to wifi.
Probably you need to clear out what you actually want and explain in more details so we can help you.

Yes you are right, but my English is not very good. But I will try again. Normally to speak with Wifi you have ot turn it on then connect to a network and the use the program you want. But I want this. When i go to my village there is no Wifi networks. So I turn on my wifi and it doesn't find anything. Can i speak in this state - without wifi network, directly by Wifi.
When you say "speak with wifi" what do you mean ? Using a wifi network or speaking (voip such as Skype) through wifi ?

I think what the OP is asking is a way to make a call using wifi as the carrier vs GSM.
I guess in theory it's possible, as 802.11 is just a 'physical' layer, but I've never heard of it being used in such a manner.

VoIP is a protocol that rides on top of a networking protocol which rides on top of the physical layer.
I'm sure this isn't 100% correct, but I think it will get the point across.
Cell phone:
The stuff that lets you dial and talk <- application layer
The part that lets the phone talk to the cell towers <- network layer
The GSM frequency and carrier <- physical layer
VoIP:
The stuff that lets you dial and talk <- application layer
The part that lets the phone talk to other computers (TCP/IP)<- network layer
The ethernet cable/wireless network signal <- physical layer
What the OP was asking was if there was a way to use the wifi signal in place of the GSM frequency.
Hey i was looking around but i couldnt find anything.
I want to get the touchpro2 for t-mobile when it comes out.
But is there a way to tether it? its kinda a deal breaker for me! lol (also 3g)
thanks
Internet Thetering
Hi,
I'm not sure I understand you question...but if you ask if it's possible to do internet thetering, then the answer is yes!
All the last HTC come ready for internet thetering...
1) Plug one USB in your PC the mini USB in the phone
2) choose internet sharing
3) enjoy surfing @ 3.5 G
Hope it helps you
BTW TP2 is a killer machine, 10'000x better than the TP1
if by tethering you mean when the text messages appear like a chat, then yes it does that by default
Yes, I have tried it. Browsing on my laptop with the TP2 on the 3g network. Works flawlessly

Hmm, that is not tethering. You are talking about threaded messaging, the O.P is talking about using his TP2 as a modem to get on the internet from a computer.
I hope your reply was deliberately funny on purpose...
Should be no problem...My concern is if AT&T or other US carries will put in software blocks to keep its customers from using the tethering feature without paying for it on top of the normal data service fee. I think they will, but I'm sure its nothing a new custom rom will not cure.
I use Internet Sharing with Tmobile USA all the time, and it works fine with my unlimited data plan.

how do i fix this /
do i need to have a data connection or 3G on?
cause its off..
( when wifi on, google maps is saying in a small window in the corner, "Seeking GPS sateliities (0).." )

if you dont have the Unlimited data plan than yes, in that case u might wana keep using WIFI
google maps requires a data connection and you have to goto options and enable Use GPS too.
If you cannot get a signal it maybe the rom that you flashed caused it?, maybe the radio might have something to do with it?( if you changed it of course). Also remember that most gps apps use data unless they have a local source of maps(on your sd card) and if you currently have your provider blocking data to prevent accidental usage then you may also be having trouble connecting because of it.
What you should do is go out to an open space, start up quickGPS and let it do its thing for about 10 mins. If you cant get a gps signal after that long it maybe your rom and or radio.
