try getting a signal in winMo first then load android, although usually I can load gps straight from android without having to get sattelites first.

that means windows mobile. And if you have something like a tom tom gps app or garmin let the program acquire gps signal. or with a signal app for windows mobile.

i dont even have signal in WinMo.. how is this possible?

wich app are you refering to ?

i used Quick GPS, and it downloaded something.. but it doesnt help.
google maps says that i need a valid connection, it doesnt have any signal..
unless i turn on my wifi, but then it will just use wifi instead of gps.
how do i fix this /
do i need to have a data connection or 3G on?
cause its off..
( when wifi on, google maps is saying in a small window in the corner, "Seeking GPS sateliities (0).." )

yea sounds like ur missing your APN settings, i use NRG roms , but anyways you should be able to go to start>settings>connections and there should be a "connection" program to add the settings to it.

yes there is, but i dont know what to click..
it has 4 options.
MY ISP
Add a new modem conncetion
My Work Network
Add a new modem ....
Add a new VPN Server ..
Set up a proxy server
and below a tab advanced, thats it.

if you dont have the Unlimited data plan than yes, in that case u might wana keep using WIFI

google maps requires a data connection and you have to goto options and enable Use GPS too.

If you cannot get a signal it maybe the rom that you flashed caused it?, maybe the radio might have something to do with it?( if you changed it of course). Also remember that most gps apps use data unless they have a local source of maps(on your sd card) and if you currently have your provider blocking data to prevent accidental usage then you may also be having trouble connecting because of it.
What you should do is go out to an open space, start up quickGPS and let it do its thing for about 10 mins. If you cant get a gps signal after that long it maybe your rom and or radio.

How to get Windows Live to connect over Wifi?

I am using vp3gs 3.61 rom with windows live messenger version 10.6.0031.2600. no matter what I do it won't connect on my WPA-PSK enabled router. I can connect fine to the internet.
Any special setup I need to do to get it to work?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT
Could someone on ATT disable the phone and use WIFI only and see if you can connect to LIVE?
I am using 10.6.0031.1600(older than yours) but I am able to connect to live services using the wifi with WPA-PSK.
I am using my own cooked rom.
Search in all the forums I remember some people had the simillar issues and had some 'workarounds'
Sorry I do not really remember.
I too also had a problem with .2600, reverted to .1600 and all is good over wifi. By the way, I'm using WPA TKIP on my wifi.
Tried that one too and still get the "there was a problem signing you in to messenger" error after checking internet connectivity.
try these ideas.
1 ensure your wifi settings are to internet and not work
2 ensure you dnt have the ip address set up in exceptions (these ips are only for intranet)
3 turn off your phone entirely. soft reset your phone. check that wifi is still internet and not work.
4 turn on wifi only. check that u have normal internet access. emails and hotmail etc work ok. then open messenger and sign in.
5 if you have to, use wlm switch user command and relogin.
this should work. once u have run and got it working, you can turn your phone back on and it should continue to use wifi and not 3g
s.

Still times out on checking internet connection.
I get email and internet fine. but no WLM.
I am using ATT. What should there be under Connections?
I have tried 2 My ISP and Media.net on My ISP it times out automatically, on Media.net it takes a while to time out.
Also did a hard reset to make sure that it wasnt anything I had installed. With the stock rom I still get the time out.
the proxy server u r using will b blocking that port.
I use telstra in australia, internet and push email works with proxy on, but wlm doesnt.
so i just turn off proxy and everything works except some of the telstra stuff which i dont want anyway.
proxy tends to give a garden firewall of their preferred content.
dunno how to deal with att, but suggest one of your connections should allow you to bypass the proxy styled firewall garden of att.
soz i dont have it to help u further, except to point u towards the proxy manager.
just to reiterate and emphasis the telstra proxy manager controls over rides and screws up 3g/next G connections AND my wifi.
only by turning this proxy manager off can i use wifi and 3g fully.
Thanks, there is a cab that disables the proxy on the att phone, so I disabled it, but that didnt help either.
Wlm 10.6.0031.2600
Hi, does anyone have the cab or installer for the latest WLM 10.6.0031.2600? Can someone post it or make it available for download? Thanks a million
Is anyone who has ATT able to use Windows Live Messenger?
Okay since WLM obviously doesnt work over wifi. How do you guys setup your outlook to get Hotmail?

Absolutely. I use it all the time. Mostly through 3G but sometimes through my home wireless network. Never had a problem.
Memnoch30, what version of WLM you using and do you have it set any special way in connections to use WIFI?
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem, I got an interesting PM stating another person has the same problem as I do. If someone else could do me a favor, turn off the phone in comm manager, but keep wifi on. Can you still connect to Live???
Anyone? Thanks in advance
Hi
Just try to keep the Red button pressed ~3s (it will cancel the GPRS connection) then Messenger will use the wifi one (i do like that since i use pocket msn).

Doesn't work for me, all that does is close out Live messenger.
anything else I need to try?
It doesnt work even if I turn off GPRS and leave wifi only.

MSN Messenger on T-Mobile MDACIII

Hi, i recently installed MSN Messenger (the Live package) on my MDACII. Its all working great, and i am using GPRS connection. The only problem is, it occasionally comes up with a error saying "The wireless network is not available right now. Messenger is trying to re-establish a connection", at which i have to sign out and back in to connect.
Is it saying it cannot connect to WiFi? my MDACIII, being a UK model doesnt have the WiFi hardware, so it physically cant, or is it talking about the GPRS connection?
Thanks,
Yes your GPRS connection is a wireless connection.

yeh, i assumed it was talking about the GPRS connection it shouldnt randomly loose it tho! it seems that if u leave it for a while it disconnects, although it shows it connected on the top bar of my phone.
Does the GPRS automatically disconnect if its not used for a while?
Cheers
I'm not sure because I dont use GPRS myself..
Try searchhing T-Mobile's FAQ.. Im sure that will give you a proper answer because I think that the connection timeout could depend on the operator you're on.

I just looked into their FAQ but they only got 3 q&a (what is gprs, how much does it cost.. ) about GPRS
And searching this forum doesnt help because alot of people want their device to auto-disconnect

Weather GPS works with Wi-Fi but not with Data plan.

I have a U.S. Cellular TP2 working well with T-Mobile (Radio 2.32.00WU) except that the HTC Weather GPS Location doesn't update when it's connected with normal Data plan. It just updates when it's connected to a Wi-Fi connection. Google Maps works fine with either Data or Wi-Fi.Tried many tweaks and cabs on this forum and still nothing. Maybe it something trivial but I don't know what is it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Set your connection correctly under all setting-connections My work network should but be selected.

What? My Work Network settings are empty. What does this have to do with GPS Data?
What do you mean I need to select My Work Network where? On Connections/ Advanced tab, Select Networks. Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network ? Like it was on default? That doesn't do anything.

It sounds like your data connection is not set up. The advanced tab should point to the data connection, not the Work connection.

The data setup works well enough. I was just asking the previous poster what did he meant by selecting My Work connection.

Are you able to use GPS on without internet on Maps?

On Google maps I've downloaded the map of a city to use it while I'll have completely no access to the internet.
Now im in that city and have no cellular data and no wi fi during the day and I need to know where I am using the gps and my stored map.
Problem is that if im not connected to any internet source, gps wont function!
When I connect to any WiFi hotspot the GPS starts to work immediately.
Im on 4.2.1 full stock and latest version of maps.
I don't have a data plan, but I am able to use offline maps (yes, with GPS) just fine. Sounds like you may have disabled the warning about turning GPS on when maps starts, and it is using geolocation by wifi only.

I'm starting to get worried...
I can use GPS without internet and without mobile networks on Google Maps, but I usually sue the Navigon app.
But If I remember Maps cannot be used without any data connection at the first time, when once have been used it via mobile networks or WiFiot should work well with GPS..
Something is definitely wrong . Probabably nothing serious though. I am able to input an adress in Maps, load the route and then turn of the data connection off and still be guided all the way to the destination -with a blue line- with just gps.

[Q] Possible to use GPS with no network service?

So I'll be in Japan until mid April, and I temporarily discontinued my cell plan. I'm just curious if anyone knows of a way to use the GPS without having any network support what so ever? I mainly use it for an application that tracks the distance and pace that I run, but turn by turn would be nice to have as well. Any help would be wonderful!!
Depends on if the app you have uses a local or network map.. i know with google maps (and maybe google navigation) you can dl map data for use while off network. GPS data is separate afaik (meaning pulling the times from the gps sats to get your location) so that should still work.
Assimilated using the interface that interacts with the advanced internet.

Thanks for the reply. i'm pretty sure i'm out of luck here, Google maps thinks i'm in Hawaii and the wifi I connect to has a mean firewall and I can't get on half the websites I can back home (stupid government). I suppose I can live without GPS. .

With the Optimus S i had no data connection whatsoever but still manage to get GPS. I used maps to pre-cache the place i wanted to go. It worked well. Just have GPS satellites on under settings.
