so excited that i have got my rhodium i decided to start a thread so people who share my excitement when they 1st got theirs can post! hope the moderator don't close me down.................
it is beautiful and so slim considering what is under the hood! been trying that dual speakerphone system and it works well. tried using in noisy environment and it auto fades out surrounding noise so you can hear what other person is saying! still cant stop the wind blowing into speakers though!
interesting to see what battery life will be on this thing as that could be its achiles heel! added coreplayer via cab and it works well. videos look stunning! the tilt screen is much stiffer so it don't flop about like on my old kaiser/tilt. used to think the screen on my kaiser would fall off at anytime! it would be nice if people posted the their initial feelings of the device wen 1st received and thoughts after a few days of use. i will be!

will do. still putting it through its paces as we speak. no freezes or untimely reboots as yet. added a few apps like tomtom etc. works well. can't get over how beautiful it looks and i am sure everyone who gets one will be happy. can't wait for all the customisations that will be available on here for this device. so exciting!

got that ez input keyboard on screen. no sure type or t9 i'm afraid! still the ez input keyboard works well and fully compatible with hardware keypad

oh ok thanks for the info. I am gonna try and hunt down a suretype cab file that will work with it. It works the best for me for one handed texting

Ok thanks i have seen his unboxing and hardware review gonna check this out. Dang DHL site says clearance delay for the past 2 days. I called and they say it cleared over the weekend and will be here by 5 tomorrow. Dang sites not updated. I wish it were fedex but oh well

well i guess this is one of the few times we are allowed to feel like that! after initial 12 hr charge i am gonna put battery through its paces! seems to be an issue from some reviews on web. will see tomorrow and update! can't believe that MS hasn't updated WMP but i got coreplayer and thats a beast!

Oh ok sweet yeah post on the battery if you would. So WMP doesnt play movies well? On my touch hd it seemed to play better than coreplayer for me for some reason. I cant wait to try it out tomorrow How is the speaker volume? for music and ringtones

Keep in mind that it takes like 3 full battery uses and reloads to get the battery on its best.

yeah i know that but cheers for pointing out. getting its ass kicked today to see how it holds up after 1st charging cycle. gave it overnight charge - 12hrs. really hope battery holds up as this could be the only thing that could be its undoing. however saying that, when all the cooks start building rhodium roms etc i am sure there will be things in place to aid battery life!
few other things
no spare stylus. searched whole box and nothing.................
slide out mechanism is a bit stiff for my liking but like the sturdier feel to tilt screen. not sure bout purple background and do like the t-mobile look. that will be my 1st enhancement changing clocks and penguin to t-mobile rhodium look! will post screenshots of how it looks once done! very quick scrolling and smooth accross tabs. mem usage 50% as standard. music playback is more than suitable and in my opinion quite good! FINGERPRINT magnet my god! ugh hate that but will have to live with it! screen protector in box but i can never apply without getting bubbles underneath! big fingers/hands. i find tilt suitable enough for watching vids from my desk or table at home! can't wait to see WM6.5 on this machine
edit: still have the issue where i have to untick proxy in connections to get certain web apps working on t-mobile. for example messenger! not a big prob and doesn't slow down connection speed!

no worries! posted a few more observations above. must have been typing at same time as you!
finger menu is there and almost instant. synced my hotmail and gmail accounts with no issues. camera is 3 mgp and very adequate in good light conditions. that high res screen makes all the difference. video recording is awesome dude, best performance on any HTC deivice IMHO! call quality is great and very crisp. tv out is there but alas no cable and haven't searched to see if available yet!

opera 9.5 there and works well but no flash support. IE is there but older version not new version. flash i however supported in IE. will update IE with cab i have for new version. been bashing since morning from bout 8.30am and till 3 bars left in battery.

I ordered my G1 today...so far I've been relatively impressed (though i hate the graphics for the UI...too google like - duh!) I saw a bunch of hands on videos...looks impressive. I'm mad I have to wait until the 22nd of October though.
Also wish they went with a more...sexy Hardware design.
ordering today...rock that until the touch hd comes around on tmobile 3g or winmo 7 comes around in 2023.

2nd, the flow of the software and the usability of it seem great. Just too bad the whole thing looks looks like it was put together by a bunch of people who wouldn't know what design was if a design school fell down and hit them in the head.

You could email the dude. Man it would sound logical. So, many people were happy with this phone after a few tweaks. G1'ers would be mighty cranky if they did have a Dash 2 with some speed.
I would be upset if Dash 2 with 3G, more speed and MORE memory comes out. lol

I would consider it but i really miss my sidekick features such as trackball, full keypad and bigger screen so it will be hard to part with the g1 provided it reaches its full potential. I do love my dash though!
Its been confirmed to the Dash will be out my Q2 of 2009... Meaning it will be out before summer or just at the beginning of summer...
Is there an online confirmation somewhere. Or did you get that from your powers from above?

It's been so long for HTC to have a true Dash successor!
My wish list in order of preference:
- Touch screen 320 * 320
- GPS
- Double battery life
- 600Mhz+ CPU
- Same physical size

I kinda think you would lose the Dash feeling with it being touch screen, GPS would be good, 3G even better and about 400Mhz CPU should be fine.
Battery life is always poor on smartphones just have a 2200mAh battery as standard.
How about a navigation ball instead of the pad??

I don't know what problem touch pro keyboard has
I searched around and I think this problem is keyboard lag. However, I don't think it exists on the TP2, as the review here (to read it, you'll probably need google translator to translate the page) only mentions how quickly the device runs and how amazing the keyboard is, there's nothing about keyboard lag.

Actually, I'm curious to see if the lag is still there. It is still completely awful on the Kaiser.
For everyone who has it, how is it thus far?
Compared to the Kaiser this thing is a dream! I press a button and the character appears on the screen at the same time! It's wonderful!
No more waiting for the last 2 words I typed to appear slowly. It's much much better

There was a keyboard lag in the Touch Pro when I bought it, but since installing latest official ROM it's gone
No lag on stock Rom for Rhodium for me.
As stated above, things will only get better once we get HSPL and start cooking our own Roms

thanks everyone for the information. It seems as though I am still stuck with this kaiser and my horrible text messaging speeds for quite some time (darn Canada/North America not having the same frequencies)... *sigh* I guess the kaiser has been somewhat good to me
There is no keyboard lag whatsoever that I'm experiencing with my Touch Pro 2. I typed a sermon summary from a church's sunday service superbly with the keyboard. Loving it so much!

I was talking about the countless number of keyboards breaking on the touch pro.
Tons of threads about it over at ppcgeeks.
It's something to do with the ribon or something inside and it breaks or pops out,
and then you're keyboard decides to stop working.
My friends has gone out like 2 times on him, and had to get 2 other replacements,
and this is within the past 4 months. lol.
But I already got the TP1.

lol, I couldnt get a TP2,
only way I could get it was if I bought it at full retail
or got it from verizon when they get finished hacking it up.
And I couldn't afford the first one
and would never buy phones through verizon.
So I ended up going with the TP1 to hold me off for a while.

ya, I was worried I'd wait for verizon or alltel too long,
and they'd just hack it up anyways,
so I just said screw it and got the TP and decided to wait for a
more mature WebOS, (I would like to develop for it, but hate the pre)
or wait for a wm7 phone.

So many ppl stating facts what Rhodium can't do or has flaws at, so i wanted to say I LOVE my Rhodium and heres what it can do:
* Go on line anywhere and watch hilarious vids on YouTube
* text as easy as sending a message on e.g. MSN
* speaking MSN: be on MSN on the go
* watch movies in superb quality (avi, divx, xvid, you name it...)
* write emails with natural qwerty keyboard ... intuitively
* use the web like on a desktop: watch sites, download...
* have awsome speaker quality an listen to music and phone calls with my hands behind my head haha
* being able to actually download an app for any need
* so many customization features
* having the most awesome kick-ass display I've seen so far on a mobile
* forgot: It looks GORGEOUS !!!

Yep! I agree with you totally. But look after it carefully. Never remove the stickers on the side as the back of the screen will scratch your keyboard. Also, protect your screen well. Use a proper case that will protect your screen from unwanted pressure.
I didn't look after mine well enough. I do agree it is one of the best phones I have owned and it's sad I had to depart with it.

is that true
because im thinking of buying one

Yeah that device is great .... I dont need to take a netbook with me. Love the keyboard,
I bought Coreplayer for all videos, this software is great.
I'm not a microsoft member but with such device you dont miss anything or?
telephone quality is very fine, speakers loud and clear.
Skype works only with the speakers, but its like hands free with good quality.

I'm in on the Touch Pro 2 love...This phone has been great so far. If I were to complain it's really just some of the things I was used to that were shut off on this, like auto suggestion. But thanks to this good forum that's not a real problem, turned it back on. Videos I have filmed with it have been fantastic. I watched Resevoir Dogs yesterday never lost my card. I do need to get a screen protector but it's been pretty tough so far.
My friend and I were looking up a part number for my car. My friend whipped out his brand new Dell Mini 10, and I broke out the Rhodium. After getting the page loaded on SkyFire, he was still waiting for FireFox to load up. WinMo 1. XP 0.

Are all versions of the TP2 susceptible to the back of the screen scratching the keyboard (if stickers are removed)? It looks like some versions (Original HTC, Sprint, Verizon and AT&T versions) have a slight ridge/seam around the perimeter of the kepboard, while the T-Mobile USA version does not have this ridge/seam. Does this slight design change affect the susceptibility of the keyboard getting scratched?
Most of what the OP describes I've enjoyed since my first WM device, the HTC Blue Angel. Yea, that was a long while ago. Since then I've owned the Wizard, the Herald, the Kaiser and now the Rhodium.
There are limitations, thats true, and I've lived with them since the BA. But the pros outweigh the cons by leaps and bounds and the level of customization on an open system like WM is absolutely amazing. The versatility of the OS, despite its shortcomings, is what has kept me in the WM realm since 2005.
I once had the MDA compact or mini as O2 called it...
And that one really kicked ass I thought. Missed out GPS though (got a BT mouse, took hours to connect and get a fix, worked though - funny eh?)
Then I bought the XDA Orbit 2 and that lil' bugger really pissed me off! NOTHING worked on that co%&su&$*r !!
And now- the TP2 seems to me like for the first time these phones actually work like they are supposed to.

Things I love about my HTCP2:
1) I can facebook on the go... just downloaded the new app especially for TP2 and I like it more than the built in page.
2) It fits in my pocket now. Coming from a Dopod900, this is so much lighter
3) I found the perfect case for it (from golla). My dopod900 with my piel frama case was like my purse - it had everything so I was disappointed with the HTCP2 case I got with the box coz there's no place for my credit cards etc. I found one from golla and I love it (case is actually for mp3 players and other devices). Im still waiting for the piel frama case price to go down...
4) It has a place to insert a handle. This was my frustration with the D900. Im currently using a Nintendo Wii Remote strap as my phone strap. It's sturdy and adds protection (the hinge prevents it from sliding off my wrist)
5) It's my blingbling. Im not into jewelry so much (i dont even wear a watch) so I come off as plain when I go out, but when I whip out my HTCTP2, it changes everything...
Love my TP2
I love this device! It can do nearly everything I could want while I am mobile. It's like a mini computer - oh and its also a phone!

Yep! I agree with you totally. But look after it carefully. Never remove the stickers on the side as the back of the screen will scratch your keyboard. Also, protect your screen well. Use a proper case that will protect your screen from unwanted pressure.
I didn't look after mine well enough. I do agree it is one of the best phones I have owned and it's sad I had to depart with it.

Agree on the bold part...luckily i have time to return mine to t-mobile which i plan to do and look for it cheaper from elsewhere.

Quick heads up about this update.
FINALLY my SGSII can read genre tags properly (previously EVERY player took its tag reading from the systems way of reading tags, resulting in genre tags being messed up which really bugs me as I predominantly like to listen by shuffling a genre! FLAC tags also now work properly).

Just downloaded it, really smooth and looks great. (had to reboot before it worked).
Going to do some more testing while driving home later. i saw that the lockscreen changed a bit.. looks quite good now.

Dude its so easy to make your expired version not expired .... like all you have to do is go buy the software from the market ... I know man its such an exploit. You just go give the developer money for investing hundreds if not thousands of hours in writing an amazing piece of software and then supporting it. Tell everyone you know about this "hack"

Yeah, when I found out I was extremely surprised to see it had escaped my notice for so long.
What improvements were you thinking of? There are a few things I can think of, but this feels remarkably 'finished' for a beta.

I wish he would have implemented the alphabetized letters at the scroll bar, so we can select the letter of the artist instead of scrolling to it.
I definitely like the black neon theme, it looks so good now, I wasn't a huge fan of the bright neon blue fonts. This looks amazing with the black background.
Edit: After listening to the beta with my custom in ear monitors, I think I can agree that the sound has improved, not as drastic as upgrading to 2.3.5, but I think the music has more clarity and separation.

Oh really? I must have missed out on the search function, will check.
I was really used to using my blackberry for music, where I can press the first letter of the name of artist I want on the physical keyboard, I don't even have to scroll.

Do as Nztech says, download the .apk, and find it under your files, click and install it.
Just had a comment on the video that enabling DVC gave one person seriously reduced volume - anyone else able to reproduce this? I can't, volume decreases momentarily and then increases to at least the same volume as without DVC (maybe louder, no headset on me to test right now).
