Hi everybody
I have the main question - what are the main advantages of WM6.1 comparing to WM6.0.
Is WM6.1 worth enought for change if we says about so many mystakes in it?
Sorry fo my english.
Bigfoot
I'm interested too, and what about Battery usage & Speed (memory usage) ?
thanks
There´s quite a few threads with the same question and the answer is usually the same....Try the roms out.
To me is kind of rude when someone says"this one is better than that one" or stuff like that, because these rom cooks are using their time just for us and they don´t deserve those comparisons.....so like I said give different roms a shot and compare yourself.

WM 6.1. can be managed from System Center Mobile Device Center (see http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/mobile/default.mspx). Thta's a big advantage for the large compagnies
The bluetooth pairing doesn't need the password 0000 toggled in.
Memory & battery usage are still the same.
Going back to WM6

After many efforts to work with WM6.1 and with my apps I finally gave up: for the indevidual (and not companies) there still many bugs comparing to the stable WM6: annoying soft-reset, many apps are well integraded with WM6.1 etc.
Sorry, but I do not see how WM6.1 is better than WM6.
but are any of the roms real 6.1...or just lookie likey?????
i have been using PDAVIET 3.08.61.29WWE and it is excellent. I have many apps loaded and have not encountered a single problem. This rom is blazing fast and supports everything i have thrown at. 6.1 has been perfect for me i dont have any problems as i read. i literally install 1 to 2 apps per day and not a single issue. before this i was using FInixNOver WM6.1 and same thing not a single problem.
in fact, i was looking for WM6.1 because i wanted a new GUI ... but microsoft appears to be as same as always ... just sells us old **** that hadn't changed since Windows Mobile 2003 ... poorly unacceptable ... like microsoft ... like always ... i'm just fed up with theses poors OSs, i hope the iPhone2 will get out soon, i will sell my trinity as soon as i can and get this really GOOD device !
there will never be improvements on WM from microsoft for a long time, everyone will have to wait until at least 1 year before seeing the first devices coming with WM7, so i prefer going to a brand that do good human-machine interfaces, and the iPhone is doing really good !
why would we have to stay to WM ?! the iPhone do the Exchange Sync ... i just don't understand anymore microsoft ...
Question about pocket excell and word
I red somewhere that WM 6.1 pocket word and excell documents are in PC full format and for WM6.0 this format is only pocket. Is that true?
To Simkand
Hi
Iphone ? ha ha ha ha
It's so buggy and you need itunes to use it .......
If you want another interface, try ifonz or another one available here
I use now WM6.1 on 3 devices : a trinity, a blue angel and a smartphone : so far so good
And I am not a big fan of Bill !
iPhone
I bought two 8 Gig iPhones the first day they came out. One for myself, and one for my wife. The very next day, I returned mine (10% return charge).
My wife loves it because it's VERY simple to use, and you cannot mess things up easily. But for me, you have to HACK the PISS out of it to get it to do ANYTHING! It's network is dog slow, no MMS, no GPS, no SD slot, no programs to install, (untill I hacked it), it crashes more often than my WM6 devices, JOBS Locks it down every chance he gets, iTunes SUCKS and crashes Windows! I will admit, the screen and the multi-touch is impressive! It makes a GREAT iPod, but a usable communications tool, it's not.
Even with all the hacks on it, it still does not compare to WM6. WM has litterally thousands of software programs you can use freely for just about anything. I'm sure in time, the iPhone will get closer, but for now, not for me.
My biggest pet peeve was the fact that my appointments would not show up on the main screen when I first turn it on. That's something I insist on with my WM phone.
If you want a great TOY with a fantastic screen, then it's fine.
i think differences are only little.. part of it is the sms system. 6.1 transform sms system into some kind of a chat window. well this is quite good considering it is easier to read the history messages

Why not trying the new SPB Mobile Shell 2.0?
I am very happy with this.
I apologize for getting side tracked.
iPhone does have a great GUI, it's just locked down making it hard to modify, at least for now.
You are right, WM 6.1 GUI is basically the same. Thanks Bill!
WM 6.1 adds the threaded SMS as mentioned before. It IS slower, but I prefer this layout.
The task manager now shows a LOT more information including running processes, memory consumption, & CPU consumption.
I'm not having any of the problems reported by other users (ie: program incompatibilities, crashes, bluetooth, activesync, etc...), so it's MUCH quicker running on my phone.
Bluetooth is Much more reliable, and simple to hook up (0000 is automatic).
Browsing in File Explorer is Much Quicker.
It might just be me, but my speaker phone seems a bit louder.
Managed Programs as mentioned by Stingray66.
Wireless Lan seems to have less trouble for me. Stays connected without having to set it up constantly.
Just my experiences.
6.1 is perfect for my Trinity, RAM memory avalaible about 25 Mb, A2DP is perfect and direct, without password, multitasking in best way.-
I don´t like the easy touch interface, but in fact, with SPB pocket plus interface is working perfect and with your own custom interface.-
I can see youtube and flash videos, no problem with video and audio files and 100% compatible with Corecodec media player.-
In my own opinion is the best OS for my trinity.-
Thanks Landy.-

I agree and .NET 3.5 can be added too. With the tool of Modaco (.NET Configuration) it's possible to switch between .NET versions and even configure the version for each application.

Hi.
What are you all talking about. There is no official WM6.1 for Trinity, all this ROM - is home made. This is just vinaigrette, mess of different ROM, as well as WM6.
HAS anyone see this http://phone.msndirect.com/phone/index.html
Use MSN Direct to check for the latest news, current weather conditions, and get stock reports sent straight
to your phone.
I am happy with my HTC S620 but only because the iPhone is not yet available here in The Netherlands. 'Inventions' like this make Microsoft look so stupid. I am starting to feel sorry for them.
ps. my god, they call it a 'Technology Preview' ?! Stocks and weather?! What technology? And it has a sponsor section build-in? What's the point?! Please tell me.
Whatever apple fan boy... If you don't like Windows Mobile go buy an iPhone and be like everybody else.
Oh I was thinking this service used the FM spectrum like those MSN Direct watches....For a moment I thought "Phones can receive those signals?"
But no- it just uses a data connection.
I think this is spinoff from the watch based MSN Direct. I tried it and was highly unimpressed. I was thinking it was something like Yahoo Go, but instead it's a horribly designed homescreen.
will this work with the 6.1 sliding panel or still be all huge and multicolored like on 6.0
No sliding... Funny how a company can develop a great sliding interface and introduce a totally different home add-on at the same time.
Hi ! I have my Touch HD since around 1 week now.
I'm very happy with it , but and i wonder if it would be possible to modify the manilla interface in order to have something silimar to the Iphone's interface.
I find great to have an instant access to most used programs and functions on the first page, and i believe it's possible to have this feature on our HD.
I've tried to load the "IFonz" but without any success (http://thedogcorner.blogspot.com/2008/10/ifonz-112.html)
Moreover, IFonz is not available for WVGA... so if there would be a kind developper that would make me this present for X'mas, it would be great !!!!
Please help the "deseperate housemen" i am !!!:

it doesn't exist yet as far as I know but the best way to do it would be with WAD2 (Wisbar Advanced Desktop 2). You should grab it and start toying with ideas there is a thread that discusses wisbar and HD here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462785
and just for you here is a link to others testing out wisbar iphone themes on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=wisbar+iphone&search_type=&aq=f
Waouw ! WAD2 looks very promising !!!
Tks a lot ! (1 beer for u, bro )
Same as u : i don't understand too why this topic isn't hotter
I'll try to bring my modest contribution when i have some time...
Cheeeers !
Most of us who chose the hd had one specific thing in mind and that is not to be an apple sheep.
ps. all the programs that you want in any order you like is just one swipe away, if that is too much work for you I think you are better off with the real iphone
Ifonz run good on my Toshiba G900, 480x800 pixel, then I think it will run on HD too. I've to wait another 2 days to have my HD, when I'll have it, I'll test .
If you don't have framework 3.5 installed, try to install it first.
...
I guess I am not an Apple sheep, but Iphone is a really unique piece of HW. I just don´t like its SW limitations. On my previous device I was very happy with iFonz. It looks cool and is very fast and responsive and you can customize it as well. Much better than Mobile Shell and others..
But I am looking forward to having new pointui on my HD. I hope they finish their project soon.
Did you try to keep TF3D, but you change the order of tabs, and put the progs tab in first ?

Hello
You may want to try out a commercial software package called Winterface, it's gives a similar interface as found on the iPhone.

You are completely right, I consider Point UI v2 the right compromise between iphone interface and TF3D. I hope it will be out soon becouse as you have sad, HD will be the real iphone killer
Decided to give the iphone interface a go with WAD2 and it works great. This is just the front page but all notifications work for texts, missed calls, VM, email etc. In addition the calendar works ont he front and the date and day changes right there on the front page. The weather temp also changes and im pretty sure I know how to make the sun change to the current weather conditions but the IPhone doesn't do that so i may not since i want it to be a perfect replica I see no reason why WAD2 cant recreate IPhone interface perfectly

I have tons pics of the Windows Phone (Mobile) 7 series for those who have been living under a rock for the last couple of days. The pictures exhibit the core of the OS and the UI.

About Windows Phone 7
Microsoft's latest mobile OS behaves completely different from previous iterations which may be a major selling point or a deal breaker. The UI is elegant, simplistic, and fully animated, no other OS is close in comparison. It's innovation at it's finest. Its pretty obvious what type of user MS was aiming towards just by glancing at the screen shots, and you can't blame them. That was how iPhone gained such huge ground.
WinPho 7's interface, codenamed "Metro", is visually similar to the Zune HD. Unlike previous edition of windows mobile, Windows Phone 7 isn't powered by Windows CE kernel, but it is rather based on said embedded OS. It seems like MS main focus is push notification, social networking and finally integrating their other services like Zune Marketplace and Xbox Live.
Ballmer didn't announce much about the hardware requirements, but he did say that there was a capacitive screen requirement. So gone are the days of using your stylus in Excel, Office, or Bubble Breaker.
What make windows Phone 7 Series stand out is the attention to detail, animations, and overall look of the OS. The keyboard is completely overhauled, it's bigger and translucent. The Lock screen is carried over from the Zune HD, it only displays important notifications like new messages, missed calls, and updated status. Unfortunately it doesn't display appointments. The home screen consists of animated tiles or hubs that serve as links to other features of the OS. The home screen is sorta reminiscent of Androids, by allowing you to pin any App, Contact, Picture, Bookmark, etc.
My OpinionsIt's pretty clear that I like the revisions or I would've denounced it in this post. The animations are uncanny and The overall experience may make it easy to use, but this is just speculation. I own an Xbox 360 and have Live for Windows on my PC so achievements are pretty big to me and it's nice to see MS being the first to integrate such a feature into a mobile device.
As happy as I am, there are still things that have me upset. The home screen just looks bland and flat, couldn't they have added some kind 3D element and why is there no background image? The apps menu only shows one row of apps in alphabetical order, which may make it easier to find app, but may get tedious once your App collection grows. I feel they should have used the same view they have for the contacts in the Apps menu, it would've been leagues better than just one row of apps.
My Question and Conclusion Like a lot of you forum goers, I'm pretty stuck on the fence on this one. Still many things I want to know such as:
How does the OS handle Multitasking?
What level of Customization is available?
Will OEMS be allowed to differentiate themselves from each other?
What about SDK and 3rd party software?
Details on Compatibility with Phones like the HTC HD2, Toshiba TG02 & K01 or other devices releasing in 2010.
What are the Hardware requirements.
What's the fate of Winmo 6.5?
Is there compatibility with Legacy Apps and vice versa?
More info on MS's plan for Cloud computing
How far along are you with flash support?
The name is Windows Phone Series, does that mean there will be other versions of the OS, Maybe a Lite Version for Older Phones?
What about Cabs & File Browsing?
MS's latest revision may look more treacherous than adventurous to "Hardcore" users and fans of Winmo. Love or hate it, this mobile OS isn't finish, there's much to be revealed at MIX10 and we won't see a release date anytime soon
Stay tuned, in a couple days I will have animated gifs that demonstrates the UI animations.
Whatever it is, I like it a lot. And I would love to have it on my X1....I hope some DevGods try to make it for my X1...
ANd BTW, Thanx for the pix!
Your Welcome. As far as compatibility goes for older Qualcomm 72xx chipset devices like your X1 or the Touch HD, I'm not to sure whether you will get a update. I know I won't, because I have a Palm Treo Pro and Palm just left me dry (No Updates For even Winmo 6.5). MS titled this OS Windows Phone 7 Series. There may be other versions such as a business version or a lite version for users of older devices.

That's true; Microsoft could have an unannounced "Windows Phone Professional Series." That would probably be where everyone here would go. Or maybe that's what the current Windows Mobile Professional will be (probably and hopefully not).
Windows Phone 7 Series = Zune HD + Phone... (what? i heared a similar story before... oh yes.. it is called "iPhone OS", an ipod.. with phone... )
I like the UI, yes.. but i will miss the things that windows mobile had.. like a file explorer (the best file explorer for mobile devices i must say), full customizacion thanks to this community...
All would be better if they just could add special effects to their current UI... (windows mobile with animations and that stuff)...

MMM... The Ipod Touch was more application oriented (At least it became app oriented after the iphone and the installer.app became popular) Whilst the Zune HD is more MultiMedia Oriented. Only reason ipods ever win is their app base... my friend has 3 fart apps, a light saber app, and bump... not really...a phone

I can't wait too see what the talented people in this forum can do for this platform. They done leagues to enhance and customize Winmo 6.5
I love what I've seen and thanks for the pictures. Here's why I love it. On my 8525 running 6.5.3 I currently install these 3rd party programs: Resco Explorer, Resco Photos, Coreplayer, Icontact, Facebook, Thumbcal, SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, JZ Browser (love it!), Opera Mini 5, Schaps Advanced Configuration, Arcsoft MMS Messenger and Google Maps. That's just the ones I have to put in to feel the phone is great(which it is for when it was made). With the 7 Series I don't think I'd need any of these programs so how much of an improvement has MS made (gigantic!). Not to mention how interactve the hubs are and how easy these programs they have work together. So far so good. I can't wait to get more info at MIX.
I must say that before I got my HTC Touch Pro 2 I knew nothing about Windows Mobile. But after visiting this forum and trying a few ROMs I must admit that Windows Mobile is awesome! So, I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with Windows Phone 7 (I really hope this is not the official name of the OS). However, MS has a habit of trying to compete with Apple and I just wish they would forget about Apple and build a rock solid OS.
The first thing I read about WP7 is that it needs a Massive CPU (1ghz). So I thought Oh my god here whe go again, MS needs to rely on high hardware specs again to get the thing going, wich could mean another FAIL programming.
Afther watchting the demo I must say that I like the interface verry much, and I can only hope it will realy be as fast as they want you to believe it is.
I also think it is a good thing that they started from scratch because most (not all) of the old apps are useless anyway. The biggest problem being the wide variaty of phone hardware wich makes in imposible to deliver dedicated-always working-allways equally fast- software. (a problem that the Iphone doesn't have, everything you download is fast, and works) and I only dream that my HTC HD would work that well, but it just doesn't (even with the great custom roms you guys make, the CPU doesn't cut it)
The only thing that I want from a phone is full PC compatibility and SPEED. Thats what windows phone looks like to going to offer, but I also like to be able to put on my phone what I want, and that is a big question mark with this new OS.

Ummmm no. I'm not sure what your definition of "powered by" is but in my world "based on" is the same thing (especially in this case).
Windows CE is a modular, embedded operating system that can be customized with tons of various components and then added onto if the developer chooses. In this case, the end developer is Microsoft and they're adding on their own UI, .net, silverlight, etc (not sure how similar the included .net/silverlight in CE6R3 is to WP7).
So basically Microsoft picks and chooses what parts of CE they want to use as a starting point and then adds on. CE is not a "complete" OS in itself really. It is designed exactly for this sort of purpose.
"Powered by", "based on", whatever you want to call it but CE is most certainly the kernel and core of Zune (classic and HD), Windows Phone, etc. It's most likely CE6R3 but could be 6R2 or even CE7.
Dear all, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for your qualified help.
I bought a short while ago a HTC TP2 with WM6.1. and I upgraded it to the WM6.5. using the original HTC ROM software. Before the Easter I've been trying to send several greetings sms to my friends, discovering the very limited sms capabilities of the TP2 (compared to my old Nokia N70) :-(((
1. I'm searching for a software application to install on both PC and TP2 to allow me typing SMS on my PC and sending them through the TouchPro2 (something similar to the Nokia PC Suite). Freeware is preferred of course. I've been googling for it, also doing a search on this beautiful forum, but I didn't spot anything reliable where TP2 is specified. Any good recommendation from your personal experience?
2. Actually cand someone point me to something similar to the Nokia PC Suite, does such a complete piece of software exist for Windows Mobile phones?
All the best to you all.

Thank you for the quick answer. I am using Win XP, therefore ActiveSync 4.5 is on the table. (I am unpleasantly surprised by the limited and decreasing capabilities of the AS 4.5 compared to much older versions like 3.7, but that's another story.)
Anyway, I am not aware of such a strong feature allowing me to type sms on my computer using the ActiveSync interface, therefore could you please give some details about this? I guess that I need more than that in terms of software and that's why asking on the forum. Thanks.

That's not a part of activesync natively, I was just covering everything I saw listed as a function of the Nokia PC suite...I didn't see that SMS was part of that.
I know there's a number of apps that will allow you to SMS via an ActiveSync'd TP2, the only one I happen to recall off the top of my head is Jeyo Mobile Companion. When I get home this evening I'll see if I can turn up any of the other ones I've run across. Jeyo's product is great, but not free.

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any such software available for TP2, though it seems Samsung has developed a similar ( like Nokia PC Suite) for the Omnia B7610 based on Active Sync, I'm not aware though if it will work on our handset.

Sirphunkee, I was editting the post to give more details about the OS in use and about sms and probably that was the moment of your first answer. No harm done.
Thanks for the hints, I will see what Jeyo Mobile Companion can do. Of course other alternatives are most welcome.
With these limited sms capabilities of TP2 I feel like having 2 left hands :-((( Preparing a new sms one doesn't even get a view of the contacts list to click on the target name, but has to type the name. What about if having 5 or 10 persons to send to? Unbelievable unconfortable and unfriendly.
Sorry, the bitter comments are not addressed to you, but to the software designers which did not put themselves in the user's shoes.
Thanks for your open minded support.

No problem
And we'll gladly add your opinions about how SMS is lacking on winmo to the pile that's already accumulated around here
Group SMS does not text from the pc but it DOES allow for mass sms. Also it is not free. That said, I use it to mass text people and it gets the job done nicely...you simply set up groups, check off the boxes of those you want it sent to, type your text and send.

Thank you akashastrega!
Yet I am a bit confused as you mentioned that Group SMS does not text from the pc, but, following your link, at the bottom of the page it says Skb Group SMS and Scheduler 5.2 does a PC application. May be there is a new version, if so I'll be most than happy. Also HTC TP2 is not shown in the Compatibility devices list, may be the list is old.

It looks like just using the features available in regular ol' ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center would achieve everything Nokia's PC suite does

Not really .. I admit that I do miss the ability to send SMS/MMS from my PC thru my old Nokia. PCSuite also allowed you to view/delete your messages on your PC, selecting which you needed to keep and which could be discarded. I honestly expected some kind of PC software to come with my TP2 and was disappointed to learn AS was the answer.

Thank you for the hint. I installed the Samsung New PC Studio v 1.4.0 for Omnia, it looks nice and similar as functions to the Nokia PC Suite, but as expected it does not recognize my TP2 phone as connected (USB). A matter of drivers I would say, but how to solve it? Thanks anyway, I forgot that Samsung put on the market WM phones.

I fully agree with you. All the major phone manufacturers are supporting their phones with a free PC Suite, I am disappointed that HTC didn't cover the WM phones. Active Sync is a very poor solution with very limited features. I know there is a HTC PC Suite for the G1 nad Hero Android phones, but not for the winmo phones.
Btw, I wonder if anybody asked HTC about a PC Suite for the WM phones, with TP2 in particular, and what was the HTC answer?

This is a newer version from what I have, which did not have pc linking...apparently they have changed that, but to what extent I do not know. I run version 5.0 on my TP2 without any issues and it does a fantastic job!! I am pretty sure that if an older version runs good on my TP2, this updated version will work just fine.
Hi again. These days I managed to install and test both the Jeyo Mobile Companion and the Skb Group SMS and Scheduler 5.2. Both are nice and doing what they are supposed to do, but I consider the Jeyo Mobile Companion more user friendly, looking closer to the Nokia PC Suite I am used to and therefore more appropriate to my needs. So I will buy this one. The only drawback is that is doing only sms and not mms, but is good enough for me for the time being.
Thanks everyone for the good advice.
Sending Bulk SMS through TP2
You can enter multiple recipients manually or create a group where you add members and send bulk SMS like that. You can also search (or scroll if you don't want to type) through your contacts to add them to an SMS. You mentioned that you are not able to do this.
Can you tell me what limitations you've discovered in TP2's SMS?
Just curious.
Thanks!
I have been using PowerSMS and My Mobiler to bulk sms from my phone via PC. Although I do have a bit of lag when typing, but that may be the Fuze vs TP2.
Also, Google Voice can do this for you too. I won't get into the setup needed but you can bulk sms from that interface.
I've used Efficasoft mobile Express (free), but since upgrading to latest 6.5 ROM, I'm having a problem with SMS remaining in 'outbox'. I have emailed them and they're working in a fix.
Just thought of an application which could allow me to "bulk-text-message", and after reading here, I am giving PowerSMS a go...
My carrier here in Norway has a program I can install and use from Outlook. It syncs perfectly, of course, and I can just click all the contacts I want to send the SMS to and click send.
Maybe your carrier has something like it?

I enjoy using it. During NFL season I burn through thousands of texts to Fantasy league members, family, etc. I still haven't figured out a way to backup the Lists that I create so I end up having to recreate them after each flash.
