Hi ! I have my Touch HD since around 1 week now.
I'm very happy with it , but and i wonder if it would be possible to modify the manilla interface in order to have something silimar to the Iphone's interface.
I find great to have an instant access to most used programs and functions on the first page, and i believe it's possible to have this feature on our HD.
I've tried to load the "IFonz" but without any success (http://thedogcorner.blogspot.com/2008/10/ifonz-112.html)
Moreover, IFonz is not available for WVGA... so if there would be a kind developper that would make me this present for X'mas, it would be great !!!!
Please help the "deseperate housemen" i am !!!:

it doesn't exist yet as far as I know but the best way to do it would be with WAD2 (Wisbar Advanced Desktop 2). You should grab it and start toying with ideas there is a thread that discusses wisbar and HD here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462785
and just for you here is a link to others testing out wisbar iphone themes on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=wisbar+iphone&search_type=&aq=f
Waouw ! WAD2 looks very promising !!!
Tks a lot ! (1 beer for u, bro )
Same as u : i don't understand too why this topic isn't hotter
I'll try to bring my modest contribution when i have some time...
Cheeeers !
Most of us who chose the hd had one specific thing in mind and that is not to be an apple sheep.
ps. all the programs that you want in any order you like is just one swipe away, if that is too much work for you I think you are better off with the real iphone
Ifonz run good on my Toshiba G900, 480x800 pixel, then I think it will run on HD too. I've to wait another 2 days to have my HD, when I'll have it, I'll test .
If you don't have framework 3.5 installed, try to install it first.
...
I guess I am not an Apple sheep, but Iphone is a really unique piece of HW. I just don´t like its SW limitations. On my previous device I was very happy with iFonz. It looks cool and is very fast and responsive and you can customize it as well. Much better than Mobile Shell and others..
But I am looking forward to having new pointui on my HD. I hope they finish their project soon.
Did you try to keep TF3D, but you change the order of tabs, and put the progs tab in first ?
iPhone Similar Interface
Hello
You may want to try out a commercial software package called Winterface, it's gives a similar interface as found on the iPhone.

You are completely right, I consider Point UI v2 the right compromise between iphone interface and TF3D. I hope it will be out soon becouse as you have sad, HD will be the real iphone killer
Decided to give the iphone interface a go with WAD2 and it works great. This is just the front page but all notifications work for texts, missed calls, VM, email etc. In addition the calendar works ont he front and the date and day changes right there on the front page. The weather temp also changes and im pretty sure I know how to make the sun change to the current weather conditions but the IPhone doesn't do that so i may not since i want it to be a perfect replica I see no reason why WAD2 cant recreate IPhone interface perfectly

I have tried 2.1.3 with skins from here. It works, but changes the look of SPB Mobile shell back to the 'old' layout which is kind of different and the graphics really don't look so good on the big screen, maybe on a X1 you can't tell it so clearly because the screen is smaller (with the same resolution that is). It's also buggy, some icons on certain skins don't show, sometimes the weather doesn't show correctly, stuff like that.
Looked at a number of skins and decided, that the default skin was by far the best...you might give it a try though. Now running 2.1.4 with the default skin and find it way more useful than Touchflo 3d.

I love this software
it has great features and makes the HD or SEX1 wonderful and gives him a bit of iphone flair
hope they extend the functions until we dont need the winmo interface anymore
not as nice as touchflo but far more functions
it is worth a try and if happy a buy
It`s working great... I don`t really like the today screen it would have been great if it looked better...
It would be nice to run touchflo3d and with Spb Menu on the Today screen instead of the Programs button... best of both worlds... because with SPB i don`t really use the today screen as much as the first Calendar tab in its menu... which looks great...
It would be nice as a today screen... or maybe you can use it as such i don`t know. :|

SPB Mobile Shell really sucks imho
they don't appreciate our skinning abilities, they don't release any technical documentation for customizing (api, calls an so on) and every release mess ALL layout settings so all our work in finding correct layout has to restart for any little release. It's simply frustrating, so i don't even release my theme (90% done for my xperia) 'cause I don't want encourage people to use spb product. They don't deserve us.
Even integration with THEIR products (spb phone suite, necessary for phone profiles) is simply RIDICOLOUS as you can't have a wifi switch on "home" screen, 1 year old request on spb forum and no response
PhoneWeaver is FAR better, and I can invoke menu (fully customizable with self-explainatory skins) with a hardware button using TouchFlo3d
Been using Mobile Shell on my HD for a few days now, and I've had to soft reset the device almost once a day during the test.
Applications keeps crashing and the device hangs.
I find the GUI far better than TouchFLO, but in its current state it is of no use for me.

I definitely liked SPB Mobile Shell on my QVGA device. Tons of great skins have been developed. Just not too many available for WVGA yet though. Of course they're coming out with Mobile Shell 3.0 soon and PointUI 2.0 should be out shortly as well. I'll probably just wait to see how they do.
http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php for a nice set of skins for Mobile Shell
I owe both a Polaris and a Blackstone and, in my opinion, TouchCube is far better than TF3D. TF3D looks nice but let's face it... it eats up system resources, it's laggy, when browsing through tabs it's not very thumb friendly (you have to bend your thumb to the max), you can't customize the tabs position (it would help if they were placed on one side because it would be easier to scroll through the same number of items having at least 30% more room to place the tabs), the so called customization... is way too limited (you get to change the fonts, the tab order, the shortcuts... in the end you'll get the same layout), the multimedia section was divided with the unhappy default association of the video files with an application clearly meant for photos...
So... my question: can the TouchCube be ported on the Blackstone and, along with it the Polaris Audio Manager? Can the Album application be "broken" in two applications one handling the photos and the other the videos?
I was thinking just the other day "what happened to the cube?"
It was pretty cool. Think it would be good a replacement for the action screen thats floating about?

and what about ergonomics?
So... I get it that no developer is interested in porting the Cube to Blackstone
I have never tried it, but how about the option "Cube" under HTC TouchFLO when using Advanced Config. How about changing that to Enabled, will that do the job?
I'll make it my next project
I'm currently finishing an animated today screen for this phone while docked but when I'm done that that I'll start work on a cube launcher that replaces the current Program's tab with a custom app that gives you a cube with multiple options for launching programs... icon view, rotate to list view, rotate to cover-flow view etc
Did you try the cube here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336234
Maybe you just have to adapt to wvga screen ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336234
I tried this one instead... installs ok but it's for qvga it starts and then it goes to the top-left corner. the animations work just fine, some of the links must be rebuilt... and that's about it. But... i mus admit it... i don't have the knowledge to port it to WVGA...

I appreciate the work of the people at SPB. It seams they did a good job. But... I am not a phonecentric person and something like the cube suites me better. SPBM3 looks like it requires a lot of time to be customized and even when you think you got it you wake up with a fully texted today screen and a directions map to help you swipe through screens...
The HTC TouchCube might seam blunt compareing it to SPBM3 but this is what I like about it... an easy way to launch/hide, easy recognition of the page you're in... i can't explain it very well but for me... the TouchCube is more natural, more organized and a better interface than the windows start menu when it comes to basic tasks.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPB Mobile 3 looks great... forget what I wrote before. No need to write what they have already written

SO I TO HOPE THAT IT CAN BE RESIZED FOR VGA AND WVGA!!!!!

If only I could... I'd do it myself
If it was posible id like the touchcube too, it's more finger friendly imo and it's faster to use. Like said before, if I knew how to do it myself, I would..

Browsing the internet I found the Bell UI. Looks quite nice.
To all the chefs out there... is there a chance to port this to HD? 'Cause I'm kinda' giving up the idea of the Cube being ported to the HD...

well let's see... there's a honeycomb-styled start menu (i mean, how did i ever live without a HONEYCOMB start menu?)... and a today screen that's a sad attempt to compete with the iphone and TF3D... am i missing anything else?
The biggest improvement is that now, you can control your phone only with your finger, it's more "finger-friendly". No need to have a stylet.
Otherwise, it's only a "graphic" improvement I think...

Actually I would say that usability has been greatly improved. It's not just a new start menu and a today screen. There are some very nice touches here and there like a much better menu interaction, drop-down lists are improved so that you no longer need to use the stylus, there's a new Internet Explorer which even though it's not as good as Opera it does have some things that might be useful for certain websites...
Oh, there's also the new widget system for small web-based applications (MSN Weather and MSN Finances are good examples) and the new Titanium home screen seems to be highly customizable with plugins that look beautiful and so far seem to work well.
I would say that the main change is that Windows Mobile no longer looks like an outdated PDA and looks more like a modern hi-tech phone without the need of TouchFlo 3D which never got to the deeper parts of the OS.

i guess it's a matter of preference. The main thing i see is that its designed to be much more finger-friendly. But personally the way they did the menus, i find quite annoying and a bit sluggish.. i manage quite well right now without my stylus actually.. In fact, although a bit small, i felt that the drop down menus in windows mobile are what gave it an edge as a business phone over say the iphone, etc. every time some menu takes over your entire screen it slows down the process of entering and selecting data
as far as not looking outdated? i don't know about that. I think looking at what HTC did with TF3D, although not perfect and the iphone interface, microsoft could have done a lot better for their first real facelift of windows mobile.. widgets? yeah but if i needed widgets i'd be using an omnia or a google phone
I tried WM6.5 for a few hours last weekend, hoping to embrace it.
I wasn't used to the home screen as it doesn't provide much information at first look. The menu enhancement is nice, but apparently HTC has it's own which seems to feel better.
The start menu is simply cluttered and feels sluggish. The scroll arrows don't look good either. Anyways.. my conclusion is that HTC seem to do a better job than MS. Perhaps WM7 is what they're spending their efforts in..
thanks cyron_at... yeah i read that yesterday somewhere as well that it's about to get released...
i think it's a great compliment to tf3d... tf3d aims at making the interface finger friendly - however you still find yourself taking out the stylus now and then (specially when behind the scenes in winmo!)... i think 6.5 further reduces the need for this... but its not "officially" coming to our diamonds, so let's c how it goes...
Officially speaking, WM 6.5 isn't supposed to be available on "older" devices (with respect to release date), but that may be subject changes.

I think it has built-in kinetic scrolling so that 3rd party manufacturers (like HTC) no longer have to write their own implementation. I believe the new IE has built-in support for Flash as well.

Exactly. HTC has done wonders for revamping the old look and feel with winmo.
Interesting to say is that M$ took some ideas from HTC and implemented them in os(shouldn't they be the one to offer innovations?!).
I hope wm7 will be more finger friendly, but as the rumors say we will probably see one more wimmo 6.x iteration (6.7?) before the 7.
I'm really looking forward to see more android based phones and some more improvements of the os itself with a lot more soft(gps like igo for instance).
Resistive screens are really becoming outdated not only do they diminish the "touch" feel compared to capacitive screens but they are a ***** to use in the sunlight.
Cheers.

Smartphones and PPCs are not business only any more.
If MS only focused on the business market WINMO would disappear, or atleast not develop any further. Phone manufactures are about selling handsets. If the general consumer (who buy more handsets than businesses) are not happy with an OS they will not by that phone.
Not every phone user is techsavy enough to flash updates from websites. They want updates sent to their device in a way that means they have little interaction and risk.
WINMO needs to develop to become a general consumer friendly OS whilst still pandering slightly to the business community. This is what I see happening in 6.5

nah, it looks nothing new.
They stopped being creative along time ago.
It supports Stereoscopic output... I'd call that original.
With HTC Sense out there, SPB needed a home run with this release but all they hit is a bunt! Boring! Same old thing we have now. I don't have that "I must have it" feeling like I did before when I purchased SPB Mobile Shell for my phone. I do have that feeling for Sense however and unless SPB gets their uncreative heads out of their butts, this shell will die eventually (or live forever 'cause the user community is re-developing it for them with skins).
I like the look of sense but I dislike the way it access things and features on the phone, too many things built-in as default and makes my favourite 3rd party app hard/impossible to be integrated, and running Manila 2.5 on my Xperia gives me a lot of problem, it is slow and sluggish sometimes.
I now have SPB 3.5 with the look of sense(mobile theme), and all my frequently used app/features accessible in 3 pages. Works a lot better than Sense and Titanium.
I don't think SPB is dying, as people who like customization will always go for it, but TouchXperiance will probably pawn it when it is released, I dunno.
well it looks like they took a step up with the animations. lets not forget they also make there product to be integrated with some devices & it looks like the success that they created on windows mobile is driven to android & the rest.. So for the new user its gonna be a big thing like it was for us (windows mobile users) when they first released there shell but for me if i decide to run there shell its gotta be on a super light ROM since it looks like a memory hogger!
Well, it LOOKS pretty. Guess we'll have to wait to see how it performs.
any news about this new shell?
I am quite curious to test it on my Touch2 ...
What happened to version 4? The current version is 3.5.3. Why the jump to 5.0?
There is a demo of version 5 off Youtube, and I am not that impressed. The functionality is more important than the look. If it's only for the 3D feel, count me out! Besides, I don't think my device can handle it
Hi everyone,
it's been a long time since my last project here on xda, but here I come I'm starting a new project and at the beginning I'd like to say that it's a loooong way to finishing it. So please do not ask for eta, because I just can't predict when and if it's going to be finished and released.
My new project is a new UI for WM6.1, 6.6 and 6.5.x. I'm doing ti for VGA but hopefully it will be easy to get it working on WVGA.
Seven UI is based on the new Windows Phone 7 interface. I'm not going to copy it all, I'll try to get some things done better. I just want to keep its style. I know that there are many themes/skins for SPB MS or other interfaces, but I want to build this from scratch, which will be really hard since .netCF doesn't offer access to some system functions or even to the sms inbox!
sound's good...i really apprecciate all your works...great kamill
Another fantastic project for WP7 imitating!!!

Below in the attachments I've posted 2 screenshots. One of the home screen and the other of the lockscreen. These are just designs made in VS2008.
I'll post some more details later.

Looks promising...
I had a question for you... have you tried the sub-pixel font rendering used in WP7 into our current mobiles?
I have created a few fonts for Manila but the Zegoe/Segoe Light do not look good because of this. Do you think you can help out on this?
Thanks guys, I really hope to finish this project!
NNagendran, I'm using Segoe WP - it's quite different than Segoe, imo much nicer and it looks good on the screen. Afaik you can't add antialiasing to the system fonts, you just have to use another font. Sometimes enlarging the text makes it look better.
wow! this is awesome, thanks Kamill
Really looking forward to this! Do you think it can be done without being too slow on the older devices like blackstone or diamond etc.?
I'm testing it on my Diamond, so I'll try to keep it as fast as possible.
wooow cool
considering you and ElCondor's pedigree, re GTX i'm confident this will be awesome
thanks so much!
where is the download for this?
There's no download yet, it's in really early stages of development.
included this on my RSS
more power to you!
My 2 Cents
Looks nice, Looking forward to it.
Cheers

Great work,I love WP7's style
thats kewll
I've decided to divide the project into few steps. The first one is the Messaging app. I may release it as a standalone app, but it's still too early to say when this is going to happen.
Thanks to mapidotnet I'm already able to read all the inbox, so that's a big step forward and thanks to codeproject.com I got the kinetic scrolling list working (smooth!).
Below there's a small preview of how it looks like.
Here's a small video preview of the Messaging app, just to show how you can navigate it. All the animations are really smooth and the transitions are fast (tested on Touch Diamond)
SO we do not need colour screen Only black and white.
It looks nice, keep good work
