Fix for Font Problem with new imate ROM and Opera

There's two ways you can fix this.
First:
1) Buy Tweaks2k2 and install on your imate Product
2) Using the Tweaks Program, change the system font
3) Soft Reset using psshutxp (NOT USING THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
4) Start Opera (Problem is solved)
5) (Optional) Run Tweaks2k2 again and change system font back to original (Tahoma). Soft Reset again using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
Second option (because I'm cheap and I don't want to buy the program:
1) Look here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../html/cgconreplacingwindowscedefaultfonts.asp
2) Using a Registry Editing Program, go to the registry entries listed in the link above and change the name of the font (i.e. "Nm") to Courrier New. I recommend you do this to all 4 registry lines (Someone who's smarter than me can figure out which one specifically does the job).
3) Once you've changed the "Nm" entry of the 4 listed registry keys listed above, do a soft reset using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
4) After reboot, run Opera and the problem is solved.
5) (Optional) Go back and change the 4 registry keys to their original value (Tahoma) and do a soft reset using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON) Hope this helps.

Or another easier way.
Just copy verdana.ttf from your computer to your /windows/fonts directory on your Universal.

The only thing that helps is to copy Verdana.ttf from PC to /Windows older on Universal.

Thanks for the comments. I tried you're way as well. You're right, its even easier. However, if folks want to put a custom font on their machine (way off topic), they can use the registry edits I used above. I've been playing with it for a while now. I had no idea you could do all this stuff. Fun.

It's a skinnable little app that allows you to turn the screen off (not just backlight - separate utility as well), soft reset, power down, and hard reset. I use it to turn the backlight off and do a soft reset if I can't find my stylus.
Note that the recommendation is probably made with regards to the soft reset otherwise possibly being done before the registry/file changes are written away. You can alternatively wait a while, or try to power down the device fully (hold the on/off (standby, really) button for a while, and you should get a prompt).

Actually I copied Arial.TTF into the font folder and it became the default font. Tried calbri instead and it too worked..
BUT once you have added a font to the directory I cant seem to delete it.
What I am having happen, is the keyboard pops up as soon as Opera opens, when I close it Opera unboots, ditto with IE now..

How can i load windows without activsync?

Hi all after upgrading to win 2k5 my device worked for 6 hr and while installing software it hanged resting didnt open it i cant get it to connect to activ sync is there a way to get windows agine on this device please advice

Do a hard reset, it will solve your problems

nothing works no hard reset nothing is working it stand on the colored window nothig else i cant even get the boot lodar screen only the 4 colores screen and the blue tooth led working and the phone is working but no rings isnt there a way i can flash with sd card like in wallaby please help me

try doing a soft reset "power+reset" then right afterwards press "record+camera".. use the record and camera to set the bottom two options to yes and press your mail button.. maybe this will get it going again.. if not do the normal 05 bootloader "power+record+camera+reset" and dock it and hopefully you will see the USB and can reflash it again or back to 2k3

i just did as you told me (try doing a soft reset "power+reset" then right afterwards press "record+camera".. use the record and camera to set the bottom two options to yes and press your mail button.. ) then the windows opend correctly and i could get it connected to active sync i instaled another ver. of windows TuMa_v1.4 but the camera didnt work i'm looking now for a way to make it work if u can help me

are you flashing an ext rom with the main rom? If not it may be trying to load the old 2k3 ext rom programs on top of your newly installed 05 main rom. if that is your only problem look with the files that came with the 05 zip, I believe there is a compatible Camera app included with it that you can load and should hopefully overwrite the older version. You can keep that message from appearing by going into your Windows/Startup folder and deleting the camera detect startup program until you get the new camera app loaded. What I did was use the ext rom tools to unlock and then format the ext rom so that there were no programs on it. From then on I only flash the main rom when needed and load just the programs that I need to keep it nice and fast. Hope this info gets you going.

I have tried OzVGA that was part of Helmi's and right after the required settings, I apply and reset, but it jus reads no font! I mean Icons with no text! Is it because am using arabizer?
On the other hand, what if I need to go back to original 640X480 size of screen, is it possible?

yes, it is due to the Arabizer, u should disable arabizer before converting to realVGA mode. Now all what u can do is going to ozvga by clicking on its icon from programs, the ozVGA screen should be activateed even u cannot see it, now try to predict the site of reset button it shoud be in the upper left quadrant, click on it blindly, and the device will soft reset in normal mode. u may need to try several times untill u success.

Low phone volume

I have an HTC Hermes and I would like the phone volume to be higher than it is, at the highest setting it seems like it's only about mid level to other phones,
the speaakerphone works great, but not the mini phone speaker.
so how can I increase the volume on the phone part of it.
The volume level is on highest already.

I'd like that too.
It's definitly low and sometimes i have trouble to hear in noisy environement.

Summerblues and Randall, you have to give us a little more information to go on.
Have you flashed a WM6 ROM? If so, which one? Some of the WM6 ROMs were supposed to fix this low volume problem.

I use the Schaps 3.57a wm6 rom.
And the volume is lower than the stock rom imo. Is there a patch or a way to fix it ?

I've also tried this and it does not have any effect. I'm using VP3G's WM6 AT&T Rom.

I'm kind of just pulling this out of my ass, but I have noticed that on some ROMs, there is a .exe called "set acoustic parameters" or something like that. It runs on first boot. I always assumed that it was the fix for the Hermes being too quiet.
Did your ROMs run that at start up?

Nail on the head! Its that exactly I've tested and cooked many rom's and ALL the ones that dont run "setacoustic.exe" upon a hard reset have low volume.

so how would we add this into a home cooked rom of our own (or tell if it is in the base rom we are using!)

Oh I forgot ..... the 120 odd xml files are already in the roms, so Ive never had any problems there.

Well, the fastest/laziest way to find out if it is in the rom you are using is to ask the maker. Or, if you don't want to do that, you could do a full back up and hard reset. It should run the first boot config again after the setup.
Really though, the setacoustic.exe file takes a really long time to load. Long enough that you would probably remember it if had loaded.

you must cook my files into a rom for it to work.

Ratcom, I was just moving files around on my pc today, and noticed some set acc. files transferring over from some old rom dumps etc, so I took a peek, I have 61 files here including the .exe, I thought they were .xml files also, but these are .csv, are you sure on that xml? I could have some jacked up files, I didn't check a rom directly.
Also, about cooking them in, Im thinking it should be possible to just dump them in the windows directory of the rom you are currently running, and run the .exe, and then they could even be deleted afterwards, Im have not checked this for myself though.
I am also wondering if the .csv/or if its .xml count in each rom that had it is the same. If anyones cares for the files I have, lemme know, I can't post attachments through PIE atm, but Ill up them later if anyone is interested.
Btw, the .csv count jumps from setaccousticparam29 to setaccoustic100, on these files I have here, meaning nothing inbetween 29 and 100, and not having checked a few roms directly myself at the moment, Im not sure if those were intentionally left out oem.
edit: After just quickly checking the above zip, the cusTSK.exe is for setting a .tsk file aka oem preconfig theme, and isn't needed, but that's no biggie, not sure about the others, I would have to check better.

I didnt modify my registry, cause I thought it will give errors, but the rom will still be working. I was going to clean up non existing keys with sktools.
I've packed my rom back, everything went ok.
I've uploaded rom to my eten m700 via usb. Again everything was ok.
Then I've made a hard reset (after the installation) and the device booted (the screen was orange). But nothing happened after. The device froze.

Could it happen becouse I didn't remove 'today plugins' in a registry?
Or some programms are hardcoded to wince, so u just cant boot without them?

Oh yes, ActiveSync doesn't see my device. I've heard it is possible to start usb sync from the knight mode. How do I do it?

press the camera button and screen off button together. reset the cellphone while still holding the two buttons. it will go to dark mode

In test mode, I've found out that my Os image checksum is smaller. So I'd probably add irda dll back. I'll also remove all today plugins in registry settings to make sure the os can boot properly.

Here comes the question!
I enter the bootloader mode on my device. It says USB host is connected. Waiting a download.
But my activesync doesn't see the device... And when I start upgrading the device here what comes out:
Can't connect to the device. Please make sure ActiveSync is working normally.
How do I fight this? I don't have a sd card yet...

Yes, there is a trick! Thx to Юрка, from 4pda.
U just need to plug any other communicator (wince) to the cord, start the updater. When it comes to the download (black pic apears to the left, saying smth about download)
-put your nonworking device in a bootloader mode (hold down turn on/off button + recorder button and push restart, then release power button, but still keep holding the recorder button)
-unplug ur other device from the cable
-plugin the eten nonworking device
click upload and after everything went well - ENJOY!
