Fix for Font Problem with new imate ROM and Opera - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

There's two ways you can fix this.
First:
1) Buy Tweaks2k2 and install on your imate Product
2) Using the Tweaks Program, change the system font
3) Soft Reset using psshutxp (NOT USING THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
4) Start Opera (Problem is solved)
5) (Optional) Run Tweaks2k2 again and change system font back to original (Tahoma). Soft Reset again using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
Second option (because I'm cheap and I don't want to buy the program:
1) Look here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../html/cgconreplacingwindowscedefaultfonts.asp
2) Using a Registry Editing Program, go to the registry entries listed in the link above and change the name of the font (i.e. "Nm") to Courrier New. I recommend you do this to all 4 registry lines (Someone who's smarter than me can figure out which one specifically does the job).
3) Once you've changed the "Nm" entry of the 4 listed registry keys listed above, do a soft reset using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON)
4) After reboot, run Opera and the problem is solved.
5) (Optional) Go back and change the 4 registry keys to their original value (Tahoma) and do a soft reset using psshutxp (NOT THE HARDWARE BUTTON) Hope this helps.
Justin

Or another easier way.
Just copy verdana.ttf from your computer to your /windows/fonts directory on your Universal.

Wrong....
The only thing that helps is to copy Verdana.ttf from PC to /Windows older on Universal.

I love this forum and you guys !
thanks you ! Will try this ASAP

goxboxlive,
Thanks for the comments. I tried you're way as well. You're right, its even easier. However, if folks want to put a custom font on their machine (way off topic), they can use the registry edits I used above. I've been playing with it for a while now. I had no idea you could do all this stuff. Fun.

Hi there. Yes it's a funny machine, there's a lot things you can do with it. One of the funniest things is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35972&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

works as well here, sometimes the most simple solution are the most efficient ones !

Can someone explain what the 'psshutxp' is?
Thanks

psShutXP:
http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/
It's a skinnable little app that allows you to turn the screen off (not just backlight - separate utility as well), soft reset, power down, and hard reset. I use it to turn the backlight off and do a soft reset if I can't find my stylus.
Note that the recommendation is probably made with regards to the soft reset otherwise possibly being done before the registry/file changes are written away. You can alternatively wait a while, or try to power down the device fully (hold the on/off (standby, really) button for a while, and you should get a prompt).

It works great on my JasJar.

Re: Thanks....
Actually I copied Arial.TTF into the font folder and it became the default font. Tried calbri instead and it too worked..
BUT once you have added a font to the directory I cant seem to delete it.
What I am having happen, is the keyboard pops up as soon as Opera opens, when I close it Opera unboots, ditto with IE now..

Volume Slider hack for BA?

Hi
Does anyone have an volume slider hack for Blueangel? I mean to remap the slider as an standart up/down key...
KTamas
Edit: okay, next time i swear i will use the search button first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18216&highlight=vol+volume+slider
Dit this work for you? On my BA (Original Qtek 9090 Dutch Rom) i do not see any buttons after installing the setup file.
Great hack. Really cool.
Does anyone know how to remove it?
I can't seem to get rid of:
\Windows\AddHotkeys.exe
Even if I do it immediately after a soft-reset, it doesn't work. The file is always in use.
I've tried numerous things, but no luck...
Thanks!
Mike
Hi Michael,
happily i know how to remove the things! I cant get it working so its useless 2 me.
Solution:
Open your (PC) explorer and go to your device (in cradle and on activesync) and into the folder \windows\start up\
Rename or remove (didnt remeber surely) the file addbuttons.exe (ie addbuttons.bak) and reboot (soft reset). You can get an error that the lnk addbuttons.bak cannot be found, if so click okay and continue.
Then delete the program via settings\remove programs and after if necessary, remove the addbutton.bak file from \windows\start up\.
Probably this solves your problem.
(But did you really liked it, did it work for u on your 9090?)
safemode
try to use this:
safemode at http://www.monocube.com/
I find it very useful
This is great stuff, guys!
Thanks!
I'll give it a shot.
Although, funnily, last night I was reading a PDF book, and I started getting used to the hack! I may leave it now!!
Silly me!
But these are great to know!
Thank you!
Mike

Fiddling around with WM6 Beta's eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt

I discovered that by fiddling around with this file (found in the /windows folder, you can quickly change the keymappings in the beta version. For example, I've only done a quick test, but I remapped the '%" symbol on the Q to be a "!" when alt is pressed or a long press is done. This worked in both Outlook and Word on my test. No reboot was needed BTW.
So if you haven't yet, check it out. I'm surprised it's this easy. What's the catch?
Does this mean that WM6 *will* have T9 on it?
(Pls. excuse my stupidity, but I have an O2 Cosmo (pretty much an Excalibur) and it does hot have currently T9 or XT9 or anything. And I can not reprogram it to access accented characters (which I am dying for).

But this does not work for the standard, preinstalled WM5, does it?

It's a normal .txt file
Yes, but what I wanted is its syntax (what is in it and what does thet mean), in the hope that I discover similar files on the standard version.
There are actually some files in \windows that might contain key-codes. such as this file:
SymPad0407.txt
with content such as
...
00A7
00A8
00A9
00AA
00AB
00AC
....
which looks like key-codes to me. But I do not know, what to do with it.
Can someone help?

I am trying to edit this file but when I put it back on the phone it says I do not have enough permissions.
My phone is 100% unlocked.
I have disabled 'read only' and still can't do it.
I am using Vista if that is where the problem is.

That's because the file is in ROM. But if you use TotalCmd CE (www.ghisler.com) you can. At least I can on my HTC Universal which otherwise has the same problem.

Reverting to Factory Settings. HELP!

I installed the WM6 Black, and my keyboard is not inputing the right chars...I tried the RegEdit fix but nothing. I am trying to revert to the factory Cingular settings and I am using RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe. I keep on getting update error message. I have no idea what to do...Please help me. I am getting very frustrated with this thing. I looked at the Wiki and I see nothing regarding my question. Same thing for the forum.
Thank you in advance.
I had this with my T-Mobile ROM, the .exe file expands the files into a temp directory, the only one you need is the .NBH.
1. Copy this file to your storage card and rename it 'HERMIMG.nbh'.
2. Plug device into mains charger.
3. Push & Hold the side 'OK' and 'Power' buttons.
4. Reset the device.
5. Your now in bootloader.
6. Holding the 'Reset' button with the other two will make the device search for and run the HERMIMG.nbh file.
7. Make a coffe or something... (It takes about 25 minutes).

This is the quickest fix I have read about. Works with out a hitch for everyone who has done it.
Cool. I m happy I can finally do this. Although I would like to fix the keyboard instead...Anyways what solution do you guys know of that will fix the keyboard? Also where can I get that .nbh file?
Thanks a lot!!!
You can either use WinRAR to unpack it or if you run the .exe it will unpack to '\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp'.
I would suggest going back to this ROM as a diagnostic tool to make sure the keyboard isn't faulty...Just make sure you upgrade to SPL 1.35 Olipro first as this makes your phone almost unbrickable in future! If you do brick it so either your stuck in bootloader mode or the OS won't start follow the above instructions...
Well, I know for sure that my keyboard was working perfectly fine before doing the WM6 rom. I have tried fooling around in the Registry...didn't make it worse, but didn't make it better either. What values do you guys have for the qwerty in the registry? Also is there a program that will let you program what key gets what symbol?
I know I am trying to decide between factory, or trying to fix this keyboard characters mix up...
Thanks again.
Not to over-simplify, but what phone are you using? If it's the 8525, there's a CAB file to remap the keys to right places... just search for 8525 keyboard fix.

Here is keyboard .cab file fix.
Thank you very much guys. I solved the issue. The fix I ended up using was; going to my local Cingular store and beaming a reg editor into the live 8525 they have there, and looking at the registry where the qwerty is located the hexadecimal value on it is 40409 (located @ local machine/software/oem/qwerty/). Please let others know about this fix for the Cingular 8525.
Also thanks a million to those who actually put a linky and not just say there is something somewhere...
Thanks again,
Cris

needed: \windows\keypad.dll - Samsung i617

I just purchased the US AT&T Samsung i907 (US i780).
The keyboard sucks. Press and Hold = repeat; not ALT CHAR. Also the keyboard can only accept 1 key input at a time.
With No physical Dpad, the keyboard needs to be fully working.
The keyboard is the same as the i617, but they use different drivers.
i617 = \windows\keypad.dll
i907 = \windows\zylonite_keypad_Us.dll
I've tried grabbing this file off of my friends i617, but copying the file would produce an error or a 0kb file. Using a USB Cable and Activesync wouldn't even show it when browsing files.
I have all the required registry keys that I need... but I'm looking for this "keypad.dll" from a Blackjack II. I've downloaded a few ROM dumps from WM6 and WM6.1 but all I get are RAW files, which I'm assuming are from a Kitchen.
Without getting too involved in Blackjack II Rom and Kitchen setup, does anyone have access to this file they can upload or have a method for me to extract this file myself?
some remote registry editors show the "real contents" of the phone... you may be able dump that way
just out of curiosity sake.... what kind of a drive do windows pick up the mobile device..... you might be able to right a batch file or use ms dos commands (copy function) to dump things...... i dunno, food for thought.....
edit: you can also try mtty or putty
anyone with any other more definitive answers? I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have the RAW ROM Dump files, but I'm assuming you have to be some sort of magical wizard to open them or have a Kitchen.
Any wizards out there have a kitchen they can shoot me a link to an uploaded blackjack 2 keypad.dll?
Bump
Hey, I'm sorry to inform that i cannot help you with this, but if you made any progress, I'd very much like to know how you did it. I need a new driver for the same reasons as you. Looking for a BJ2 keypad driver and with that a scandinavian layout config.
I'm also very interested!!
@player911
Please!! Dont give up! I would like to help. but i have no idea how.
I hope you made a little progress in that problem.
Good luck and keep up you good work in improving the i907/US i780.
I'll upload if I can off of my BJII. I am thinking of getting the Epix, so this will help me a lot.
Will update soon.
I have the same problem in I600
The relationship is still in OEMMITS.
It has a great relationship.
How would I go about to extract this .dll?
Write to the exact.
and from which the device, you toss it
How to update keypad.dll
My actually driver don't work
Relase topic........
Rename the file? If it doesn't work, just rename it to something else then the original driver will appear. Can you upload it so I can test?

Yup.. here You go.
Thanks a bunch! Now to test on my machine ! Backing up right now, and I am about to replace the file when its done. I renamed the keypad.dll to zylonite_keypad_Us.dll, just to see what will happen with out any mods to the file.
EDIT:Ok, here's what happened.
The mouse movement works, but any button presses, keyboard presses do not work. Nothing works except the optical mouse, but it has no click function. Some one has to edit the file to be compatible with the i907/i780. The backlight didn't work either. I got it back to normal, I just deleted the file then soft reseted and the keypad was working again.
EDIT 2:
I opened the DLL in word pad, and there is a lot of things linked to the middle scroll wheel and the 4 way navigation it has. Some one might have to copy some things for the top functions, like the left and right soft keys, the call and end button, the ok and start menu button, and the click of the optical mouse. The remove the functions of the Blackjack 2 like the home button and such.
EDIT 3: Can someone provide the zylonite_keypad_Us.dll for me?
I have the same problem on my i600

Help - HTC TouchPro2 Sprint - Side volume up/down buttons no longer working

Anyone ever have the volume up/down buttons on the side of the phone stop functioning correctly?
Looks like the buttons themselves still work (they now scroll up/down on pages instead of adjusting volume up/down). Any suggestions?
I'm running Energy Rom sense 2.5, cookie hometab 1.6 and HDwalls with cookie patch.
Thanks
Didy ou install the keyboard fix after installing the energy ROM?
Thanks for the response. No - was not aware of one. I can check out the energy thread for it.
Odd though because this just happened yesterday (volume sidebar was working fine before then) and ive been running the rom for like two weeks now. Only new thing I did yesterday was install transparent tabs, a cookie tab fix and new wallpaper thru HD Wall.

I know there are reg edits available in cab form that change the vol up/down buttons into up/down scroll buttons. Nothing in your list would be likely to include that, but it's possible...that's the only thing I can think of that would change their behavior like that.
Thanks. I might just look to isolate those two areas and try to set back. I also have that zoombar app (to use for other purposes) but dont think that would affect it, plus I didnt have the problem until days after i installed.
Tried soft/hard reset as well with no avail.

I'm guessing you mean just a soft-reset (rebooting)..? A hard-reset is where you wipe the memory clean putting everything in the OS back to stock settings (or back to the fresh version of a custom ROM, if you've flashed one on to your device). If you've hard-reset and this problem still persisted, then you can pretty much rule out software as a cause...
Yes, my approach would be to just start uninstalling stuff in reverse order, soft-resetting and testing after each item removed.
Yep - definitely meant soft reset. I'll try your advice. Thanks so much.

No problem! Good luck, and let us know what you find
Hi SirPhunk
Deleted everything that I'd installed since the problem occured and still no luck :-/. Buttons on side of phone still scrolling up/down, instead of adjusting volume.
I also tried the Sprint keyboard fix for Energy roms, but no luck there as well. Any other ideas? Do you happen to know if theres a way to search for the value in my registry?
Thanks again
If you want to go searching in your resgistry for it, PHM_Regedit and Total Commander can both search for specific keys...I would just try the string "volbutton" or even just "volb*", something like that.
Now, even though you didn't see the issue immediately when you installed it, I think there's still a possibility that the zoombar app could be the culprit....I would try uninstalling that too (if you haven't already) before you start doing the extra work.
EDIT: It also might be easiest to just install Rhodium Keyboard Controller (attached below) and use it to manually map them back to stock function (don't ask me why I didn't think of that in the first place ). In fact, if you do that, try uninstalling RKC right after doing that mapping, and I'll bet they return to their stock function after that even without the app being needed anymore.
Sir Phunk, Thank you for taking the time to investigate and the response, Sir Phunk. I went ahead and dloaded the cab to my storage card, but cant seem to find the files in order to run and edit the keys manually. Sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm still learning the ins n' outs. Maybe this will help me fully install programs that may be hanging around (even though I went to the "remove programs" section and deleted them).
Please advise if you have a chance. Again, my apologies as I am still learning. Thank you again.

Will do...full instructions coming first thing in the morning
Hey stenuine, let's see if we can get this working for you...
First, I'm again guilty of not explaining things well enough (seriously), my apologies. That file I posted earlier is actually a .zip file, with 2 .cab files inside...it'll be easiest if you download it to your PC desktop, unzip the 2 files out of there, and then copy them over to the SD card.
[TIP: I would strongly recommend creating a "cabs" folder at the root-level of your storage card, and using that to retain any cabs that you run and know that work, even if you're not still using them at the moment. That way, you'll always have easy access to any of them, even through flashes and hard-resets]
The first file in that .zip is the sdkcerts cab, run that one first. It allows your phone to use many of the homebrewed apps and tweaks found here at xda. After that one's installed (do a soft-reset again if the install doesn't force that anyway, always a good habit), then you can just run the keyboard controller cab to install it. Once you have the app installed, the icon to run it is found in:
Settings -> All Settings -> System (it will say "Keyboard Config").
Once you get it installed ok, here's how to use it to get your key's mapped the way you want:
1. When you first open the app, you'll see what's in the first screenshot below(pretty much a blank screen).
2. Click "Menu" in the bottom right
3. Click "Add key" from the menu
4. You'll see the dialog in the 2nd screenshot below, go ahead and tap the volume-up button
5. Now you'll see what's in the 3rd screenshot below, the setup window. There's a lot of stuff there, but we'll only need some of it for this. First, in the "Key mode" drop-down list, choose "Direct key mapping"
6. Now you see what's in the 4th screenshot. Now what you need to do is click the "Key" dropdown list, and scroll all the way down to pick "117 F6-VOL UP"...if you did all that right, it should look like the 5th screenshot.
7. Click "Ok" in the bottom left of the screen. Now, you should be back to the very first screen you saw, but now with the mapping you just created (screenshot 6).
8. VERY IMPORTANT...at this point you must remember to hit "Update config" in the bottom left, or the work you just did won't have any effect. It'll confirm for you that it updated, and that's it! You just mapped one of the volume buttons
9. Now, follow steps 2-9 again, with the following exceptions:
Step 4 - tap the volume down button this time
Step 6 - pick "118 F7-VOL DOWN"
As long as you did all that, and hit "update config" after each one, you should now be able to close the app and have normal volume-button operation.
As you noticed there's a lot of versatility in this little app, so if that still doesn't work for you, there's other ways we can try...this is just the most direct and should work just fine.
Hey SirPhunk,
Thanks for your time and the very detailed breakdown. I was able to install the app and run it, but no luck re-assigning the buttons :-/. Tried re-assigning vol-up button to vol-up and vol-down button to vol-down, but no change. To test, I also re-assigned the "up" key on my flip-out keyboard to "volume-up" and still no dice. Made sure to save the registry after each change and tried with and w/o soft resets after the changes. The vol-up and vol-down buttons still just scroll up/down on the screen and up button on keybard still just scrolls up as well.
I saw what you meant about other functions for this program, just not sure which to try next in order to fix this issue. Thank you again.
bumping my post...
i just ended up doin a hard reset. My best guess is it could have been the zoombar scroller v2 app that screwed with the settings.
