I own an Australian (Optus, original ROM version = i780DTHD1) version of the i780 which I recently upgraded to an official Samsung release Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro ROM meant for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam (i780PDXIB1) which I downloaded from the Samsung OS Upgrader website. There is no official WM6.1 ROM for Australia yet.
At first, the upgrader checks to make sure the OS and phone ROM version matches against it's version, which meant I'm not suppose to be able to upgrade due to the different ROM version. However, I found an online tutorial which showed me how I can use a hex editor to change the ROM version in the upgrader to match with the phone's version.
http://www.pocketpt.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t26390.html
I got pass the version check and the ROM started uploading but failed at uploading the "Phone Image" a.k.a 3rd upload. I soft rest the handset and it was showing WM6.1 with the new ROM version but the Phone version was still the original version (i780DTHD1) .
I then proceeded to use the unmodified upgraded which will now match against my OS version and the upgrade completed successfully with both OS and phone ROM versions now showing i780PDXIB1 .
Everything runs smoothly (quicker actually). My problem started when I tried to access Windows Live, Live Messenger and even Hotmail. I am unable to connect to any of these services. Hotmail on Pocket IE and Opera 9.5 just gives me a black white screen, while Windows Live and Messenger says there is a connectivity issue. I can browse other sites using PIE and Opera just not Hotmail and Live services. I was able to access these services when in WM6 and I noticed that Live and Hotmail services always connect using GPRS even though I am connected to wifi.
According to Microsoft Mobile FAQ http://mobile.microsoft.com/live/En...&sid=da8e298231e845e1dbc1fcea1df83430e6c29ce0, the connection profile called "The Internet" must be configured with my provider's settings. I checked my connection settings and could not find that connection. But when I try to add a new connection called "The Internet", I get an error message "Connection settings already exist with that name". But I'm pretty sure there is no such connection. I looked for it in the registry (PHM Registry) and only found one entry for "The Internet" under HKLM/Comm/ConnMgr/Destinations/ which contains the following:
Name > Data
DestId > {436EF.......}
ReadOnly > 0 (00000000)
Secure > 0 (00000000)
I deleted that entry (after full registry backup) and soft reset the device. I am now able to add a new connection called "The Internet" but the problem still exists. What I also notice is the drop down box for "My network card connects to:" for my Wi-Fi adapter is blank. Before the registry edit, I am able to select either "The Internet or "Work" connection. Without any success I restored the registry backup and now everything is back to previous state.
To summarize the problem:
Unable to edit or add "The Internet" connection after upgrading to WM6.1 Pro. I get an error message "Connection settings already exist with that name". But unable to find it in Connections.
Missing connection is causing Windows Live and Messenger services not to work.
Hotmail.com and Live.com shows a blank screen while other websites load ok i.e. Google
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,
Daniel
I manage to find a solution to this problem at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409645
There is a file called MSNWiFiFix.zip which contains a .provxml file. I used a text editor to inspect the file and what it contains is the following:
=====================================
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="Registry">
<characteristic type="HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\My Internet" translation="filesystem">
<parm name="Secure" datatype="integer" value="0"/>
<parm name="DestId" datatype="string" value="{B157AC6A-DA25-46B3-8E55-1F2923F1E72B}"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>
=====================================
What I did was go to the "The Internet" registry path "HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\The Internet" and entered the "DestId" string from above.
When I soft reset my device, I now have "The Internet" connection setting in My Connections
I then added my Telco's (Telstra) gprs connection and Windows Live and MSN Messenger is now able to connect.
Resolved
DO NOT USE previous method.
Further testing resulted in other connection profiles to STOP working. ONLY MSN services can connect to the internet via "The Internet" connection profile. No other internet sites worked on PIE or OPERA.
So I dug further into this "MSNWiFiFix" and decided to try load the default configuration into the device.
After a soft reset, I configured my device with the following:
1. Configured Telstra WAP (telstra.wap) connection in "My Work Network" with proxy settings 10.1.1.181
2. Telstra Internet (telstra.internet) connection in "My Internet" (added by MSNWiFiFix) connection without proxy settings.
Results= IT WORKED!!! Both Live service and internet browsing works!
When I access BigPond mobile portal, it connects via Telstra WAP. When I sign in to Windows Live service, it connects via Telstra Internet. Unfortunately I can't have both running at the same time but atleast now I can check my Hotmail and have push email configured.
Windows Live & Hotmail.com Connection Problem on my I780
1) Always show connection problem with Windows Live logon with 3G or Wifi.
2) Encounter Blank page through IE connecting to www.hotmail.com
Other websites or appications are connecting fine with 3G or Wifi. Anyone can help with these issues? Or it is common problem or bugs on I780?
I fixed this problem
I have fixed this problem for my own phone.
I created a .cab with the XML in the post above. As soon as I run the .cab (attached) I can connect to Live services.
However, like the original poster it broke my normal internet connectivity for non-Live apps. I easily fixed this by correcting the settings.
Now everything works!

To fix the Page Not Found error in Internet Explorer -
go in to your Connection settings - click on Setup my Proxy servers - and REMOVE the check where it says "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet"
make sure you leave the Box checked where it says - This network connects to the internet.
and now Try connecting and browsing - it should work.
apparently AT&T customised their ROM to use their own Proxy Server.
Hi All,
Am sure there are many threads - did a search but came up with nothing like mine. O2 Branded XDA Orbit with Vodafone SIM.
Upgraded from Default ROM to WM6 Bepe version - everything seems fine except my GPRS Connection.
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
Rom 3.4.207.1 WWE
4/18/07
Radio 2.49.90
Protocol 4.1.13.25
Model ARTE200
I have tried connecting to GPRS using my VODA SIM - which I know for a fact IS enabled for it as I was using it on my XDA-IIs - Now I just cannot connect to the GPRS to access my gmail or anything whatsoever.
I entered all the details for Voda-GPRS manually and also from CAB from this site and still cannot connect - it starts to connect and says the "connection was disconected" check settings...!!!
I am at my wits end on what the problem is !
Any ideas?

A couple of months ago I had an HTC Beta of WW6 and had to wipe it as it would not connect, same as you. Afterwards, I found out that WW6 install resets varions Connections settings incorrectly (part of beta).
Go to Settings / GPRS settings and make sure you have CHAP selected
My install had PAP selected.
Jeff
Sounds to me like the rom you have used has a feature/setting that disconnects GPRS connections for whatever reason - possibly to stop programs from auto connecting with GPRS.
Have you checked with the creator of the ROM to see if anything like this was implemented in to it? It may be fixable with a registry tweak or setting.
Mine worked both Bepe and B&B V2 ok.
GPRS:
1. Click on Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections
2. Under the heading 'My Work Network', click on 'Add a new modem
connection'
3. The settings you require are:
4. Name = Vodafone MMS
5. Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS)
6. Click 'Next'
7. Access Point Name = wap.vodafone.co.uk
8. Click 'Next'
9. Username = wap
10. Password = wap
11. (leave the Domain field blank)
12. Click 'Finish'
Thanks Guys - Worked fine - Seems I was giving the APN wrong...
Well finally atleast it's working now...
Now only to get the Blackberry connect to work and I'm on cloud nine !!!
Hi I was trying to set my dad up with my old wizard.
He's on vodaphone and I've been able to get the GPRS working using the above settings (I also had to add a proxy server of 212.183.137 - type - HTTP port 8799) but IE is now browsing the internet.
However when I try to connect to a imap mail account it just says connecting, then says failed to connect, check settings.
Does anyone with a vodafone account know if you're able to connect to a personal mail server?
Are there any more specific proxy settings?
(start -> settings -> connections -> manage exsiting connections -> proxy settings ->advanced)
Or any advice from someone who's been able to get this working.
Cheers
Matt
All Carrier UK Settings
I downloaded this from the HTC Site - It has the settings for all carriers...Maybe this will help.
Thanks tried this, but it has an APN of internet and these settings always give me the
'answering modem has disconnected error'
I used to get the sae error and then I called up Vodafone and told them. They reset the SIM from their side and things started working fine.
OK thanks for that. I'll just hand it over to my dad with GPRS working and see if he can get his sim card reset.
Cheers
Matt
Hello,
I've upgraded my HTC P3300 with the htt://member.htc.com downloadable HTC_P3300_FRA_3.13.406.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship_R.exe
The ROM updated like a charm.
Since done I can no more connect my P3300 to Internet through my PC while using ActiveSync (4.5).
This worked correctly with WM5, on standard settings.
The USB to PC "Enhanced network" setting is enabled, I tried to disable and enable it again with no change. All settings are by default.
My PC get a 169.254.2.2 IP adress and I can Ping 169.254.2.1
Trying to load a page in IE returns a warning window "Connection impossible, go to connections settings"
Thanks for any suggestion,
Jean-Jacques

Could you have it set to Automatic?
I had the same issue, solved it with this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321471
I have my S620 (WM6) connected via WiFi to my laptop, and that's connected to my work network which uses a proxy to connect to the internet. What happened is that I entered the proxy password incorrectly when prompted by IE, and chose the Save Password option. So now each time I try to open a page I get the message "The user name or password is incorrect. Verify that CAPS LOCK......". Problem is I can't seem to find a way to delete the cached password, and the registry key mentioned in this link does not exist: http://thinkabdul.com/2006/04/25/deleting-cachedsaved-passwords-in-pocket-internet-explorer/
Any ideas?
What I am doing:
1. connecting to WiFi AP
2. trying to access any internet site.
What is strange:
1. Internet Explorer, HTC weather and Stock works perfect
2. BUT Opera, Youtube and QuickGPS does not work
3. Intra-network works perfect either from Opera or IE.
Windows config:
1. I set DNS, WINS and proxy with port
2. in connections profiles I have one "My work network" for both Work and Internet.
3. WiFi session connects to Work profile.
4. NO VPN or Modems in profile ...
5. Adapter connects to Work profile.
6. I have certificates installed to access WiFi net.
What I did to resolve the issue:
- I did MTTY and nothing changed;
- I did change of MTU - did not help;
- I've renamed proxy in settings from Symbolic representation to IP - did not help;
- I've tried both 6.1 and 6.5 WM versions and ROMs
- I've tried many combinations of different settings, but nothing helped.
Some times I saw that the issue disappeared on some ROMs after a number of settings changed during tries... but I did not get a logic of how it become working...
I appreciate any help from you and ready to make a testing...
Where are you, masters?
