Windows Sideshow - Touch HD Themes and Apps

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I ran a search but couldn't find anything so here goes.
Has anyone used this software before? It's effectively a piece of software to allow control of media center/your pc made by microsoft.
It looks like it might be good but when I tried to install it it popped up saying I had a problem with tmarshaller.exe.
Any ideas?

[Remote Access] Control Hermes from Desktop

Might someone know a program that will allow me to access my 8525 via remote control from my XP-Pro Desktop? There used to be one for WM2003 but I can not seem to find it and I rather doubt it would work for WM6 anyways.
BTW, I did find that I can control my XP Desktop from my 8525, that is pretty darn cool. I attempted to try from XP >> PDA but I guess that is not supported in that direction.
Thanks!
[PS I sure hope there is not already a thread on this for WM6 - I did attempt to search for one and came up zero].
http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro
Google is an amazing thing, you should try it sometime
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx
or soti pocket controller but that costs money, and I am sure there are a dozen other programs to do the same thing...
Thank you both [and for the Google suggestion]. While Google is a good thing for sure, generally it will not tell me that using a Non-Supported ROM [like with WM6 we are using] what x-software will be functional.
When I was using WM5 on my SX-66 I used a Remote Program and it really messed it up and I had to re-flash. So I was hoping to get some tips on what other users have used with Hermes/WM6 for remote access. Yes I know, Bah, Bah, bah....
With that said, the Google statement is still valid - I guess I was being a little to lazy.
no prob bro, if your running vista, for me atleast the microsoft powertoy remote control would lag during install sometimes, not sure why but I would run it and it would just sit there, so just a heads up if ur on vista, but it might not even happen to you.
I have WinXP Pro, Vista32bit and Vista64bit install on three different hard drives. For Vista I can not even get it to connect properly to my 8525, I gave up [temporally]! I am sure I can get it to work but when I brought the phone home on Friday I did not want to be fighting the darn OS.

Weird activity while activesync active..Windows phasing in and out...

Not sure if I can describe this properly but when Activesync 4.5 is active and connected to my 8525, all the windows on my computer would drop into and out of the background every few seconds (I'm running Windows XP). It is very annoying because if I were typing and the window drops into the background I can't type anymore until the Window becomes active again or I click on the window again. Am I making any sense?
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?
I've noticed this too
I think I know what you mean. At times, the links on my desktop will blink out for a second or two. I have a sneaky suspicion that it has something to do with Explorer (on XP) and ActiveStink looking for changes to files you sync.
Now, that being said, I have no idea how to solve this problem Other than perhaps not syncing files with ActiveStink - not a very good work-around I'm afraid.
There is a beautifully simple piece of software called MobSync (which has been taken out of beta and released as shareware, but for which the beta freeware version is still available and flawless http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=454) which allow the PPC to sync any file with any other file on the PC.
If you find my hunch is correct that ActiveStink's file synchro is causing this problem, then perhaps you might try syncing with MobSync instead and see if that smoothes things over.
Good luck.
Yea, I definately know it is because of Activesync but I would like to continue to use it. I wonder if there is a fix for this though.

Can't sync anymore on work pc

So... No idea what's happened, but today I can no longer sync my phone with my Win7 laptop. So far I've deleted the partnership on my phone & in the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC.) Then I uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC. The error I'm seeing in the Event Viewer:
Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code).

I'm at a loss here. I've never had a problem syncing my phone before. I've been syncing it regularly with this laptop & my home pc for months. The only thing I've done lately is install CoPilot8.
I can see the M$ Windows Mobile Remote Adapter show up under 'Network Adapters' in the device manager. Should anything else show up? Any ideas? I've been reading up on this error message for ages now and nothing's working for me. I really don't want to do a hardreset, but I will if I can't find anything else to try.

This is the only thing I've found that might be relevant...according to the posts it seems to be caused by a conflicting driver issue, there's a solution suggested there that seemed to work for some...

Good luck!
I saw that page.. nothing marked in Device Manager. I did remove the phone and the windows mobile remote adapter and reinstalled them both. Device manager updates appropriately when the phone is plugged in, but it's like active sync is broken. On the pc it will search for like 1 second, then go back to Not Connected, and on the phone I just see the into page in Active Sync "To syncronize your device..."

Darn, I had hoped that was one you hadn't stumbled across yet. The only other suggestion I might have is trying different ports on the PC, or a different cable maybe..? Sometimes when I'm using the cheap cable I keep at work for syncing, I have to reseat it a couple of times before ActiveSync will kick in and make the connection.
God I hate windows. I completely removed WMDC and the update to it, then rebooted. Reinstalled and now it's syncing. Good lord.
ETA: Is there a unix-based tool for syncing WM phones? I am seriously considering reloading this stupid laptop with Ubuntu.
Well hell. It got stuck while syncing, so I stopped it, disconnected and reconnected my phone, and now it's back to not connecting anymore. Grrr.
If its only happening on your work pc...
try disabling firewall and connectiong it... if that works... you will have to open some ports for mobile center(or activesync) to work with firewall turned on...
I didn't have a firewall on it, but god only know what the Enterprise McAfee was doing. I gave up on that stupid Windows load. Installed Ubuntu. It's sad when a non-windows OS is more reliable at talking to my Windows phone than Windows7.
hmm yea thats sad...

control WP7 phone/SMS from PC

hey guys, i'm having trouble with finding a program like mobiledit or jeyo that allows you to SMS and have phone priveleges on a pc. my netbook has windows 7 starter and i can't find anything that works with windows 7 starter or with wp7 or with both. anyone know something i could use? this is a necessity with me. if i can't find something, i'll be migrating away from wp7 and my samsung focus. even samsung's own pc studio software does not support the focus.
all my controls would be via bluetooth.
there isn't a program at present to do this as the phone is locked down quite a bit and APIs would need to be written to get this going (or phone needs to be hacked up for it, which i don't see happening any time soon).

that seems so odd to me. windows 7 starters automatically answers incoming calls and allows me controls of my phone's zune playback (forward/backwards, stop/pause) while connected to the phone via bluetooth, so you would think since windows has already got the functionality of partially controlling the phone, they would go ahead and add the texting and the "answer/ignore/dial" functionality as well.
there are some serious functionality problems with the wp7 in these regards. you go look at mobiledit's list of working phones and it is just about every phone made except the windows phone 7. any ideas on if this could happen in the next year?
i would suggest hitting up social.microsoft.com about this. that is more of a direct source. MS could provide more ideas as to what they're doing at the MWC next week, but i doubt it would be detailed enough down to particular featuresets.

Windows Mobile Device Center

Has anyone been able to connect to the Kin using the Windows Mobile Device Center? (most likely not--I haven't seen anyone posting about it...)
I came across a website with a bunch of tools that look pretty useful for WinCE devices:
http://itsme.home.xs4all.nl/projects/xda/tools.html
It seems that these tools will only work though if the phone can be seen by the windows mobile device center (with its associated rapi.dll driver).
If there is a way to make the windows mobile device center "see" the kin, then maybe we give some of these tools a test drive.... I'm guessing it's a matter of having the correct driver (which seems to be somewhat of a problem )
I've thought about trying it, however my Win 7 x64 computer seems unable to install or uninstall the Windows Mobile Device center. Once I figure it out, or get a computer that can run it, I'll test it. And Activesync (for the older OSs)
On my laptop (have Zune installed on here) I have Win XP, so had to install ActiveSync 4.5. Unfortunately, after plugging in the phone, ActiveSync could not detect my phone. Not sure if having Zune on my laptop makes any difference or not.
Will install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 on my Win 7 desktop (no Zune) sometime tonight and see if the phone is detected there.
This is my first post, but I have been reading every single post since I got the phone around three months ago. I didn't feel the need to post because you all know way more than I do, but I think I may have made a discovery that might help your WMDC idea. If you are to turn on both the PPRO and usb_pass thru modes at the same time on the Kin device it creates an entirely new usb mode labeled "usbfn composite driver." which from my quick research I just did is the mode needed for the WMDC. I'll let you pros test it some more, but I'll keep messing around and see if I can get something. Hope it helps in anyway. If not sorry for wasting everyone's time.

At least you've been reading. We're aware of the mode, and my limited trials do not let my computer recognise it, but I'm interesting in your research as to which mode is needed by WMDC. Where did you find that out?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405945 here says that usbfn is for wmdc
also micrsoft talks about this mode here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg159468.aspx
finally do a google search it seems that we have to make a driver to make it work, but there are a lot of templates out there.
Like i said maybe it will help and maybe not. Sorry.
I tested it.
Created a custom made driver in XP ("Kin Lame driver" from "LameCorp by Kussack")for device:
VID 0x045e, PID 0x643, MI_00
Activesync doesnt trigger on the phone in composite mode
Usb sniff shows that when the program talks to the phone, the phone doesnt answer (even not an error code or something).
Dunno about WMDC and/or the "other", the MI_01 device.

How did you create the custom driver? Was it completely built from scratch, or an existing MS driver?
I spent a couple hours last night trying to fake a WMDC driver into driving my Kin, but was unable to. The closest I got was in using the "Pink" driver found in another thread here, but I couldn't do anything with it.
I still want to try getting a different driver to work (I have a Palm Treo Pro/WM 6.1 phone that I want to test, to see what driver it uses and how it works on the computer). If you've already done similar work, it might not be worth my duplicating your efforts, but if I can go about it differently, I'm still going to try.
you just need to add a pattern in wceusbsh.inf, following the existing ones.
It's like not exactly, putting it from memory:
%\USB&VID=0x045E&PID=0x643&MI_00%.DeviceDesc = \USB&VID=0x045E&PID=0x643&MI_00
And later in the file:
\USB&VID=0x045E&PID=0x643&MI_00.DeviceDesc = "Lame kin driver mfker!"
It's just pasting and customizing two lines (like i posted) and it will be labeled as "Windows CE devices" (even not working or being hacked in a wrong file).
I did this with all driver modes, just for fun. Nothing worked, but may worth a try with newer drivers or OS or pc's.
