[Remote Access] Control Hermes from Desktop - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Might someone know a program that will allow me to access my 8525 via remote control from my XP-Pro Desktop? There used to be one for WM2003 but I can not seem to find it and I rather doubt it would work for WM6 anyways.
BTW, I did find that I can control my XP Desktop from my 8525, that is pretty darn cool. I attempted to try from XP >> PDA but I guess that is not supported in that direction.
Thanks!
[PS I sure hope there is not already a thread on this for WM6 - I did attempt to search for one and came up zero].

Google is an amazing thing, you should try it sometime
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx
or soti pocket controller but that costs money, and I am sure there are a dozen other programs to do the same thing...

Thank you both [and for the Google suggestion]. While Google is a good thing for sure, generally it will not tell me that using a Non-Supported ROM [like with WM6 we are using] what x-software will be functional.
When I was using WM5 on my SX-66 I used a Remote Program and it really messed it up and I had to re-flash. So I was hoping to get some tips on what other users have used with Hermes/WM6 for remote access. Yes I know, Bah, Bah, bah....
With that said, the Google statement is still valid - I guess I was being a little to lazy.

no prob bro, if your running vista, for me atleast the microsoft powertoy remote control would lag during install sometimes, not sure why but I would run it and it would just sit there, so just a heads up if ur on vista, but it might not even happen to you.

I have WinXP Pro, Vista32bit and Vista64bit install on three different hard drives. For Vista I can not even get it to connect properly to my 8525, I gave up [temporally]! I am sure I can get it to work but when I brought the phone home on Friday I did not want to be fighting the darn OS.

Sorry, while that is cool, what I am looking for is the client for MS Remote Desktop. I need to be able to connect into my company through remote desktop.
I have used this one, and it works well on my Dash
http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=tsm&platform=none
It was worth the cost to me.
jax, i just dl'd a trial version of what you posted & installed on my t-mobile dash. i was able to log into my work server and the mouse pointer appears, i can move it via the directional control but i can't click anything. am i doing something wrong?
n/m, i figured out how to get that working. as far as i can tell, this is the best remote desktop software available. would i be wrong in saying that? I tried term serv 6.0 & it was horrible. i couldn't do a thing.

Dash sync solutions with Vista or Mac

I have a T-mobile Dash that I am very happy with but am shopping for a new laptop. I am considering 2 laptops running Vista (Dell XPS 1330 and a Toshiba Protege R500)and the 13' Macbook. My concern is being able to sync up contacts and calender. I am currently syncing to Outlook on my laptop running XP. I am not sure which would be easier to sync my Dash with. I have heard the problems with Vista and Mobile Device Center, and have know that there is software that allows syncing with a mac. I am mainly concerned with being able to sync my contacts and calender, everything else is secondary.
My options seem to be basically,
Deal with WMDC on Vista,
Use software such as missing sync to sync to the mac,
run xp on parallels to sync with outlook via active sync.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I need microsoft office for compatibility with the computers at school for projects etc, so I have outlook but use it only for contacts and calenders, not email.
Thanks,
Bryan
well, you could start by getting a laptop with Vista on it, and immeditealy re-format it XP...which should be the default choice if you ask me

Yep unfortunately Vista isn't up to par with windows mobile compatibility as yet. I got a MacBook Pro and an iPhone but yes you could use the missing sync and a MacBook. I haven't used it personally but I've heard good reports. Get the Mac first and you'll love its philosophy so much I bet you get an iPhone.
I use missing sync with my Imac and it's great.
How to get ahold of a copy of XP
How hard is it to get a copy of XP to replace Vista? That would be an ideal solution. No new software to buy as the software that I have would need I have already. If XP was offered as the OS on one of the windows laptops I would not be tempted by the mac. I am happy with my XP laptop now and am just looking for something smaller and more portable.
I phone
Indiekiduk,
I would love to get an apple SMARTPHONE. If apple released a 3G iphone and opened it up to third party apps i would consider it. I was really looking forward to the potential that the Iphone had, but am extremely disappointed with the current version. If apple released a smartphone with the capabilities of a WM phone then I would be tempted. I work for a cell phone company that sells Verizon, ATT, and T-Mobile. I would consider ATT service for an apple smartphone, not the current entertainment phone.
It has WiFi that goes faster than WM and can run 3rd party apps. Yes GPRS is a little slower than 3G and it takes a small bit of effort to set it up to install the installer which lets you install the 3rd party apps from one tap, but overall the iphone is leagues above a windows mobile. The interface is stunning, so intuitive and a joy to use. The device is sleek and the hardware is the most powerful ever in a phone, multi-touch screen, orientation sensor, one button on the headset for pause music, skip song, answer and hang calls, it even has a 3D graphics accelerator!! It has a full web browser, pages look just like your laptop, double tap columns of text to zoom to them, supports javascript, ajax, animations, more people are browsing on the iphone than windows 98 and Windows mobile combined in the latest stats! I'm only touching on the features here.
Here is the installer:

Here are some other things to get excited about!

Honestly man, windows mobile is up **** creek.
You can use the iPhone on T-Mobile if you unlock it, either using the freeware AnySim (in installer) or using www.stealthsim.com (the latest iphones require this method at present). If you work for a cell phone company this should be trivial for you.
Not about Iphone
Im glad the Iphone works for you, but it does not offer anything that would make me spend the money for one at this point. I know that there is unlocking software and applications out there, but it is a lot of trouble to go through for an expensive phone. If I were going to spend that kind of money right now i would probably but an unlocked Kaiser. Like i said, if apple brought out a true smartphone i would be seriously interested, rigth now there are just too many drawbacks for me.
The way apple has treated the iPhone actually makes me want to buy a mac less (and certainly not right before Macworld). I have not been impressed by the way they have handled the iphone, but I am not really impressed with Vista either. If microsoft had not messed up Vista and WMDC then I would not be considering switching to a mac, I would just adjust to vista.
If I switched phones right now it would probably be to a BB Curve, as UMA (hot spot at home) calling would be a a good feature for me.

Eh? The Kaiser is twice the price of the iphone! $800 compared with $400. Here are more apps to wet your appetite!
http://lifehacker.com/339834/the-20-best-iphone-and-ipod-touch-applications
I know its a tough decision moving from something you know to something new. But honestly, owning a Mac will blow you away and your only frustration will be why you didn't get one sooner!
I know that the Kaiser is expensive but it lines up better with what I need in a phone.
If I went to an I phone I would lose
Push email (WM6 push email with hotmail) and easy setup of gmail
Hardware keyboard, ( after spending some time with a friends iPhone this is fairly neutral, i prefer a hardware keyboard but the iPhone keyboard is workable)
MMS, (I send enough picture messages to my wife that I would miss this ability)
If I unlocked it to use on my T-mobile dealer line then I would not be able to update to the newer versions of the software as they come out without locking the phone again until the software has been hacked again. Has 1.1.2 been fully unlocked for both applications and sim?
Indiekiduk, this has me rethinking how what i would really miss if I went to an Iphone so keep the ideas coming
Thanks
Vista and Dash will not exchange passkeys
So I have given up on getting the toshiba BT stack to play nicely with my device, and have opted to used the default vista drivers. All this to simply get active sync to work via bluetooth.
I have been able to pair the two devices, but when it comes time to sync... regardless of what I use as a passkey, I always get a failure message from vista. Passkey was not exchanged variety...
I have researched across the web to see similar problems, but no solutions. Any thoughts
Thanks
ROM: Kavana 6.1 (rickwyatt flavor) v. 18
OS: Vista x64 ultimate
WMDM: 6.1
Okay... I finally have my dash synced via bluetooth...
...now how can I edit my registry on my pc to change what serial port (com6) my bluetooth uses to push data files
Help i cannot sync!
Hi, I hope somebody can help me, ever since I installed 6.1 and try to syn either via bluetooth or usb my phone says "this device its not allowed to connect to desktop computer" i dont know what to do and i really need to sync my phone!
XP or vista?
what bluetooth stack?
its vista and its the built-in bluetooth on my laptop!
Vista won't partner after upgrade to 6.1
I just upgraded to mobile 6.1 and overall everything works now after installing a bunch of cab files to fix the keyboard issues. However now my Windows Vista won't recognize my HTC phone. I finally went to USB to PC setting and unchecked "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" and Vista seemed to recognize it. However my Dash now says it REQUIRES Active Sync 4.5 or higher. Vista uses Windows Mobile Center and for some reason I can't get it to recognize and create a partnership. Any thoughts?
Also how do I get a song to become my ring tone. Seems this was lost
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I have the same problem. I updated to the latest "Windows Mobile Device Center" - still no luck, I get "Synchronization Failed Error" and to update to active sync 4.5 - Wierd :S
However, I have another computer running vista, it's a brand new pc which barely has anything on it and it connects just fine so I had to use that all day yesterday but the pc I use is in my room and that's the one giving me errors.
Any Solutions?
firewall? that might be a part to your problem

LogMeIn - doesnt work, dont know if T-HD specific problem?

hey guys
it's a f***n' mess..
I just tried the RDProtocol to remotely control my laptop computer with my Touch HD - it doenst work. OK - don't hesitate - just try the alternatives. I did. LogMeIn. People around the web and this board mean, its quite easy to install.
So i installed the client for my laptop, registered with my offical mail account, rebooted my system and now?
First think - not TouchHD specific: My laptop pc is not shown on the list in my account management at logmein's webpage. Ok, perhaps i can handle it somewhen in the future.
The second thing is:
I visited "logmein.com/pda" with either Opera Mobile and PIE - nothing happens (because some people said, that there will appear a popup to install the mobile client)
However - i downloaded the client from someone in the board, installed it - but: I cannot found a program to start anywhere.
When i try to call the laptop and the listening LogMeIn-Server on port 2002 with my browser - nothing happens.
So... the only little thing i want is to remote my Laptop... but PITA - its not working. Can someone help, please?
thanks a lot for every hint!

Mate,...Logmein works fine with the native internet explorer on your device (press "start" tab and you can see the ie7 like logo on there and use that)... it does not work with Opera (didnt for me anyway).
The so called logmein client you refer to is no more than a plugin for internet explorer so if you have it instaled and using the internet explorer as i mentioned above you just got to the logmein home page and login and all will be clear to you
but i tried it with the native internet explorer (PIE - pocket iexp.)... ok, then i guess its a problem with my account, because i'm not able to add my laptop to the "computer list" at the logmein-webpage...
thanks anyway!
try logging into the webpage from the laptop itself
to add it (I think that's what i did)

It seems to work though I can't convince it to enter the password correctly when locked
But why doesnt RDP work for your laptop? Do you get any error messages? did you add a password to your account?
maybe it's easier to solve that problem instead of trying alternatives? i mean PIE is extremely slow..

also what Operating system is the laptop running ?
for example Vista home doesn't support incomming rdp without hacking
one of the vnc clones is a typical way around this.
and as Imperium said rdp won't work with accounts that have no password
and it has to be dumbed down for some rdp clients

logmein
I too had issues to start with, but a little playing around and it works fine. You have to use the "keyboard" input method, using small keys I find works fine. For me the " is mapped to shift 2 a quick think about that and I think logmein is using the local of the PC your controlling so in the UK shift 2 is ". BTW my regional settings are set to UK on the HD. Using the touch friendly keyboard (full qwerty) wouldn't work at all for me with the loginme control.
Hope that helps you!

The best way to remote desktop??

First off Hi all and Im no longer a XDA virgin, or I wont be in a few days anyway
I borrowed my mates old mobile phone that has mobile 2003 SE to see if I could control my desktop pc with it, thats running vista 64bit, so I can turn on my desktop pc, run winamp and play all my tunes from my bed. I must of tried 2 or 3 bits of software with no luck each time. then I noticed the "Terminal Services Client" that win mobile had. That sort of worked and I did remotly ran winamp, but it wouldnt play for some reason?? But the software kept hanging and crashing so I couldnt really do much anyway. Ive looked for another version of "Terminal Services Client" for windows mobile but theres none.
Tonight Ive just bought my first mobile/pocket pc "SPV M2000 / HTC Blueangel" for £60. Its been upgraded to windows mobile 6.1, so my question is will I have better luck with remote desktop on windows mobile 6.1 and does 6.1 has "Terminal Services Client"? If not what is the best software for remote desktop for win remote 6.1?
vncviewer
can't answer your question about 6.1, but a good simple solution might be the decent little vncviewer program for windows mobile on sourceforge. works good on my htc wizard 100 (a.k.a. cingular 8125) running winmo 5.0. I use UltraVNC server on the PC - good encryption and the works. not sure whether the remote assistance or terminal services is as secure.
For me tihs is the best:
http://www.soti.net/
there's two big different strings of remote desktop programs, one logs you in and you have your pc's desktop on your device's display and you have the full pc experience, but, it logs you off on your pc, like pc to pc remote connection. the other one is to control your pc and still have the pc running for itself, just as an external control or HID device.
if you want the first, the full experience, i would recommend wm6 rdp, just google it, it is freemail and works like a normal remote desktop, meaning you need to configure your router and your pc to do that. it's freeware by the way. in general i would not use iton a blueangel, because 240*320 is just too little to have an overview of the pc's desktop, which, in my case has a resolution of 1680*1050. i do use that program on my universal though, and it works just fine.
the other thing is to use the HID, the bestestest program for that is ppc tablet, unfortunately it is not free, but it's great, you stay logged on to your pc and can control winamp and any other program, use your touchscreen as a touchpad, like a notebook's mouse, you have a lot of possibilities. here are some links you might want to have a look at, too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496296
will add more, when i found them, but you can also search for remote desktop in the forum and you find a lot of results, that might help you get it to work.
EDIT: here is the link i was looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506
this is the official great round-up of the best remote desktop programs out there, you can look up, what you need, what and if you are willing to pay for that and the functuionality it offers
Thanks guys.. I will have a play about when I get the phone hopefully tomorrow. Basically what I need the phone todo, is turn on my desktop from standby, run shortcuts I have in my start menu of my playlists, control winamp and put my desktop pc back onto standby. Then I dont have to get out of my pit at all,. What would be nice aswel, if the phone could remember my password so I dont have to log on to windows each time.
oooh, i just saw... "turn on my desktop from standby", that could become difficult, since neither the real remote desktop services, nor the addon services can run in standby and realize your approach of access, for example: some services like ppc tablet (which would be great for your winamp uses) need a server program running on your pc and a client software running on the ppc, but technically the server wouldn't run in standby, and as i mentioned before rdp services do neither, the pc needs to be turned on and connected to your network to be accessable. plus there is no such thing as "power on wlan", so that wouldn't work either. putting the computer into standby isn't that much of a problem, with ppc tablet you can simply navigate the mouse cursor to do so, in rdp services there is no direct function for standby, because in the version you get on your screen, the start menu's shut down,... commands are changed, but you can make a shortcut on the desktop to do so. i don't know about the command now, but google certainly will.
I did try the wakeup on lan, when I tried it with my mates phone, and it did wake me pc up but the "Terminal Services Client" on his phone kept crashing for some reason, and winamp loaded but couldnt get it to play for some reason.

Logmein

Hi, I've used 'logmein' from my Touch HD in the past, to connect remotely to my PC, and all worked well. But now, although I can log in, as soon as I try to connect to the relevant PC, it 'seems' to try and connect, but then does nothing. This is whilst using Opera - but, when I use IE, it works OK - once I'd installed a cab to enable remote access.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I might need to do to enable access via Opera?
Thanks.
I use it too. Presumably the cab for IE is some kind of plug in which doesn't work in Opera.
Just stick with IE. What's the problem anyway? Make logmein the home page in IE and all the work is done for you. If you run it full screen it doesn't matter which browser it runs in.
I've made it a favourite in IE - so it's not a major issue, I just find Opera a little more intuitive.
I was just wondering what might have caused it to suddenly stop working in Opera, when previously it worked?
LogMeIn has never worked in Opera for me... only PocketIE.
Tip: If you log in using your PC, go to 'Edit Computer' or something, then you can drag a desktop shortcut that links directly to your remote PC. Copy that shortcut to \Windows\StartMenu\ and you have a link that you can stick in the HTC Quick Launch. Takes you straight to your PC Credentials login screen...
The only problem is the shortcut icon appears as an IE page, not Logmein icon, if anyone knows how I can customise that it'd be much appreciated!
problem
Hi, I wanted to ask if you have similar problem as i do. I use ie and like above, after putting login and pass ie goes to blank page and nothing happens. do you have any idea what that may be? i use dutty ROM if its helpfull...
thanks

Same here mate. I was using the stock ROM and it was fine, but as soon as I upgraded to WM6.5, it stopped working. I guess it's the new version of IE that's incompatible. Maybe there's a way to downgrade IE to the previous version? I've only just thought of that, so I'm gonna see if you can do it now
Okay. For the guys who are having problems using Logmein with Opera, I'm sorry, but I've got no idea what that problem is.
For people like myself who have upgrade to WM6.5 and found the new version of IE does not work with Logmein, the only answer I've found is to downgrade IE to 6.1, which you can do from following this link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1890124&postcount=2
Personally, I didn't really care for the newer version of IE (whatever version it was), so am more than happy to downgrade to get Logmein back again!
Yay!
Logmein Application
of course it would be nice if there was a free standing application to remote connect to a PC via logmein.com. Similar the the iPhone app they do....
thanks you guys! i downgraded ie and it finally worked.
of course stand alone version would be perfect, like youtube - it looks and works much better this way on our powerful handset (i tried youtube on skyfire - you know, what i mean..).
I'l watch this thread if something interesting happens
see you later, hermi
This works great to get me to my remote comp.
(downloaded the old IE)
But the keyboard does not work. ant ideas?.
well I loaded the keyboard cab for the TP and now I can input text, except I can not get Capitol letters to work.
Hi all,
After messing (a lot) with keyboards, cabs, RACrtlCEs (or something) and after reading lots and lots of posts, I finally concluded that:
1 - Logmein won't work on Opera (don't know if it's RACtrlCE.cab issue or other). But as my stock HD has PIE built-in, no prob there.
2 - Using PIE, the remote machines won't reply to default QWERTY's keyboard. But as my stock HD has the possibility to change to default WM keyboard, no prob there also.
(By using Logmein this way, most of you should have logged-in with no problems and without installing or changing anything in the HD)
Now... I'm stuck with:
I can see all my remote machines and access them, but the ones with special characters in the passwords, I won't get past the login screen (e.g. @).
Does anyone have any idea I might haven't tried?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Bizao.
