Hi Folks,
Trying to connect my XDA Orbit to a WiFi router - no DHCP so I need to specify a static IP address on the Orbit.
I can't for the life of me find any kind of dialogue in WM6 to enable me to specify the IP, DNS, Gateway IPs etc
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Terry
Start-->Settings-->"connections" tab--->wi-fi--->"network adapters" tab--->"SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter" -just tap on it or select it and then "edit"--->select "Use specific IP address" radio button, enter your IP address.

Hello,
I recently upgraded my TyTN with the official wm6, but can no longer connect to my network. The network is a wpa2+eas, the network key is 8 characters. On the TyTN, I have tried all combinations with "networkcard connects to internet or work" and the with "network connects to internet or work".
The TyTN start connecting, but fails. For some odd reason, it also always seems to forget the wpa2-psk key, which makes me wonder if it is a problem with this...?
I have tried a soft reset, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Jörg
Werid...if I set the IP address (+ subnet + gateway + dns + ...) manualy, it works. So it is not getting an ip address.
When I choose to get an ip address from DHCP, there is a read only (grey) ip address box. Oddly, this shows a number composed of 4 groups of 4 hex values. Could it be expecting to get an IPv6 address?
If so, is there a way to tell it to take a regular IP address?
Jörg
I fooled around a bit more, and now it works...
EDIT: It doesn't anymore.
Any thoughts?
Jörg
I think I found the issue: I also had the profile of an adhoc network. Apparently, this adhoc network uses IPv6, causing the network card to only allow IPv6 adresses. As my wifi is IPv4, the wm6 device never gets an IP number.
Removing the adhoc profile made it work.

I bet you try to connect to a network with hidden SSID.
This will not work as in WM5.
If so, the solution is simple. Within network definitions you have to check "connect to non visible network" or in German language:
Einstellungen -> WLAN ->Menü -> Netzwerkkarten -> "Dies ist ein ausgeblendetes Netzwerk"
Hi,
New Dash owner here, I tried searching for an answer, but did not have any success.
When I try to connect to a wireless access point at work with a static IP address it just shows connecting and never actually does. I can connect to other access points that use DHCP with no problem. I entered the IP address, subnet, default gateway, DNS servers and WEP encryption key that I use on my laptop. Am I missing something? I am using 3VOLUTION WM6.5.
Thanks
Since installing Froyo on my Desire, I can not connect to my local wireless router (Belkin N1 Wireless router) when using a dynamic IP address. Previously (on eclair) this was no problem what so ever.
When I try connecting, it keeps saying it's trying to aqcuire an IP address, but nothing happens.
When I check the routers overview of connected devices (DHCP client list), I see this:
ip address: 192.168.2.4
host name: android_f07d6a45ÿÿÿÿþÿÿÿ (yup, strange characters)
I tried connecting to my macbook via WIFI, and that worked without a hitch.
After restoring factory settings on my Desire, factory settings on the router, installing newest router firmware... I tried again, but to no avail!
Then I gave the Desire a static IP address and presto; I could connect to my wireless router without a problem.
In conclusion:
Before Froyo: connecting to wireless router with dynamic IP addresses = no problem
With Froyo: can only connect to router with static IP and Desire's hostname contains strange characters
Most other wifi networks seems to work.
Anyone else having similair problems? Is the Desire's strange hostname the problem?
This was a problem for me with Eclair too, and yes I'm still experience it, the only solution I found before was "wifi-fixer" or what ever the app was called (it's found via the market). But it did not work all the time... :-(
Update: I can connect to Dynamic-IPs without noticing any strange Chars. But its the "unable to..." that's similar to your's.

These settings should be different from router to router
I can give you mine, but I doubt it will help you:
IP: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS 1: 192.168.2.1
DNS 2: BLANK
Depening on your router and settings, you might have to change the ".2." in all of these to ".0."
The "4" in the IP address is also free for you to chose (must be available though)
This is how i fixed the problem. after 2 days of RND
Activated hotspot on my arc, and waited for my laptop to connect. After you get connected your laptop adapter will show limited connectivity/no internet.
Now go to the market and download "Network info"
open network info and find out the IP address of your device.
it will be something like 192.168.43.1
now go to to your wireless setting of your laptop, and change the settings to DHCP to static.
if your phone has IP 192.168.43.1
Then configure your laptop's ip 192.168.43.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway will be your phones IP. ie 192.168.43.1.
dns 8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
DONE
