I just got my hands on a Vogue and I was woundering if I need to change the bootloader to load custom rom?
If so, is there a sticky or a link to find it? Is it the same from the Titan (NueSPL 2.47, I think)

yes and no
yes you need to UNLOCK the phone...
- bootloader refers to a way to flash a custom ROM (power button+Camera button+stylus in reset hole and hold until the gray/tri-color screen appears)
no, you do NOT use nueSPL on a HTC Vogue
go here and read this thread at PPCGeeks http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370 readf, re more and then read more and memorize itll save you headaches when you know it inside and out

Thanks! Got the info latter on after posting!
A sticky with a basic faq wouldn't hurt... I come from the "world" of Titan so I'm not "newb" to all of this!

I spent a whole day yesterday learning to unlock my new Cingular 8525. Then I tried it using HTC Hermes SIM Unlock v2a, and I followed closely discussion threat between crazyut and pof (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-286248.html), but I failed!
Steps as follows: I directly run RUU until ERROR 114 appeared. Then tried to copy HERM_Unlock_v2.exe to the phone, but found that I need to install the software to enable transfer of file from computer to the phone, so I install it. Unfortunately, the installation failed. In Device Manager there is item Windows CE USB Devices, with sub-item: HTC USB Sync(!). There is message: This device cannot start (Code 10). Then I tried uninstall and reinstall, but did not work.
So I use another computer. It can be installed, and connect the phone to this computer, and transfer the file. But I could not run it (I double click it; and also tried to run from: Start, Run, but no response).
Question: (i) Can the phone still be unlock (since the process was interrupted), (ii) Can I continue the process using another computer?, (ii) how can I transfer the file to the phone that can be executed, so I can complete the process.
Appreciate your help.
what bootloader do you have??? one of the first lines in the hermes unlocking thread is this:
It can be used in all HTC Hermes devices, the only restriction is that the device must have bootloader version 1.04
How to enter bootloader can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Resets
there is no need to post the same question in different threads. I have deleted your other post in regards to this matter. Next time make a post in the device specific thread
Many thanks finally a response to my posting (noted also your note regarding second posting - thanks). My bootloader is 1.06.
My understanding is that I can downgrade the bootloader from 1.06 to 1.04 using MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program, is this correct?
During the process, there is already a message "ERROR 114" as mentioned in Install instruction.
as an FYI you would have gotten a faster response in the hermes upgrading board.. but here is a post you need to read about downgrading your bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284401
when you follow those instructions make sure you follow #3 as stated.. if its not done as stated you will not accomplish this correctly...
Thank you, I will check and read the info from the link you mention. I.ll get back to you later. Thanks
I have googled the DownGrade_SPL.rar for more than a couple of hours, but could not get free file. All website that I found, we should pay, and some of them $35 - is this really the case? Is there website that can provide free file? Thanks
you dont need the downgrade....
first flash your phone cingular 1.6 bootloader phone with this..it will change your cingular phone to bootloader 1.4..both files are from cingular roms which makes you abe to downgrade your phone from cingular 1.6 to the 1.4 bootloader..understand??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277664
Then follow instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073
after that you're phone should be unlocked and supercid...
it works.. i have done it to my cingular phone.. just read read and read some more.. everything you need to know is adressed on this website....
Enjoy

Many thanks to Shogunmark and Honestable for the advise. I have open the link and it seems that I need to study that first before proceed with thyis great work (e.g. I need to understand how to flash the cingular 1.6 bootloader with ... what file? -apologies for not understand some jargons). Let me also go through the information in the links. And I will get back to you, if I need further clarifications.

Re: Unlocking the 8525
Why not just call Cingu;lar and ask for the unlock code. If your a customer for more than three months, they have to give it to you!

u can always put back the stock spl that way u have your warranty back and u can download the stock spl from where u have downloaded olipros hard spl and he has put links to stock spl see the first three sticky threads at the first page !!
Thanks guys i will check it
By the way you got a iranian name
Like the title says this is my virgin flash. So what do you guys think should be my first ROM? I've looked at a bunch.
Looking for stability and style.
Just to get this correct I need to unlock my phone even though it's att and I'm using att. (Should I just unlock the CID or both)
Then I need to install HardSPL 7.1?
Then flash the ROM I choose.
Then load APPS as needed?
Thanks for the help!
Hardspl v7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
I would unlock and supercid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665 then I ran hardspl again just to make sure, because unlocking changes the bootloader.
Then you should be good to go. Hardspl will help you in case you get a bad flash or bad rom, it's easier to recover. Supercid will allow to flash unsigned code (custom roms).
Looks like your on the right track, I'm just not sure where you got v7.1 for hardspl? That's why I included the links.
Also, "any rom you choose", but only from the Hermes forum. Flash a rom for another device means instant brick and you may not be able to recover it.
Hard SPL is a safety net only, there are NO guarantees you won't end up with a permanent brick, Hard SPL or no...
Most times you have to do something REALLY dumb to end up with a total brick but there is a miniscule chance, especially if you are playing around with the radio rom.
Happy flashing...
It was late last night and I couldn't remember if it was 7 or 7.1 lol. I'm charging the phone now. Gonna make sure it's nice and full then I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks to you both for the help. I just needed to hear I was going about this the right way. I think I'll try one of Schaps ROM's first then try one of Josh's and see what I like about each. I've only got about 50 pages in on each so I'll read alittle more while the phone is charging. Thanks again!!
Oh wanted to ask also is there a Page or sticky just for Apps, skins, themes, and such or do I need to know what I'm looking for and search it?
Dang I thought my other phone had a microSD card in it.....turns out it's M2. Guess I'll stop on the way to work to pick one up. Non SDHC 2gb or less! Another question when it states now copy this to your phone....What file do I copy it to? (I'll head back to the Wiki and see if I can find that myself but figured I'd ask).
copy the RUU_signed.nbh and rename it hermimg.nbh the exe file is the flashing utility, and you don't need it if your flashing via the sd card.
make sure the card is formatted as fat32 (not fat).
Ok I did it the RUU way without the SD card. I'm now at 2.10.01 so I'm good. Now off to work and will hit the unlocker next. Thanks for the help!!
Ok unlock has been completed now I'm going to run Hardspl again. What about the radio I see that is has changed. Should I change that back to what it was at some point?
Ok I've done my first ROM flash wow! I grabbed Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31. I'll try it out and see if I like it. If not try another. Thanks again for helping me thru!
If you wish to risk changing the radio, do so but only if theres a problem. If the radio rom flash is interrupted, you will almost certainly have a brick on your hands.
Use the sd card method to flash so you then minimize the amount of problems you may have.
Remember though, if the radio rom is working fine, don't touch it....
Cheers...

Ah, cool! Thanks, vp3G! I guess I took all the info wrong. Reading the 2 threads it wasn't clear. I guess my method worked though! haha
Yea, it's all quite confusing... Hard-SPL ended up negating the need to use pof's unlocker. Olipro is a friggin' genius (as is pof).
So all I needed to do was Hardspl and I would have been good to go? I have another hermes I'm doing for myself. I do find I'm not getting very little service if not none at all in the house. I use to get 3 or 4 bars. Should I change the radio? Does the radio change with each ROM loaded?
You can try going back to the radio that you originally had, just do it the sd method to minimize the chance of something going wrong.
You could compare the difference between the 2 hermes.

True, but if you wish to sim unlock then you still need Pof's unlocker.
I have to admit I'm getting there myself LOL. It really isn't that hard after you do it the first time. Some things I got stuck on (Pure newbness).
Some ROMs are compressed with .rar and .7.....I found you must download a unzipper/compressor to extract the files you need. I used Winrar some use 7zip. I'm getting there. There is soooo much info on this site. You find that you search for an answer and you get a page of answers with 3 different ways to do it LOL!
We have all been there at one point, too!
When I first brought my hermes home and it was still locked to the at&t network, I was so worried I was going to break it.
Lots of reading, and lots of tinkering later, and I am working on my own rom. Granted, I didn't port it, but I have done so much tweaking that I don't think anyone could tell where it came from.
Funny thing is, I still keep learning so much more. I think it's like my other hobby, ham radio, I don't think anyone can try everything! It seems to go on and on.
Ya know you gotta love the internet LOL. I've learned about so many things (mostly due to them breaking lol). Here's another question for you guys. For those who have Josh's 6.1 ROM. Where is the lock unlock button??? I see the lock device setup for password protection but I don't see a regular lock the screen so I don't make but calls button. LOL I'm gonna try to load his S2U2 thing when I figure out how to do it.
You can add device lock to the today screen under settings>today (at least it should be there), but if your using manilla I don't have a clue lol
Bear with me as, being slightly older than a teenager I am new to this kind of phone.....a bit late I know but there you go
Having recently re-flashed a Samsung Galaxy Ace (using ODIN) after my all knowing teenage son managed to completely mess it up I would like to do the same for my newly acquired Wildfire S......nothing flashy, nothing cool maybe a later version of the stock ROM will do me fine....after doing the Galaxy I also noticed that the phone was un-locked to all networks which would also be helpful
Any advice / procedure / where to get the file from etc would be appreciated
thanks in advance
That's a very vague request... what do you want to flash? There are many ROMs available. Check the index at the top of the general section. Head to the 'root' section, follow the guide to unlock the bootloader, root the phone and install a custom recovery. After that, you can go to the 'ROM' section to see what you want to flash. The options are vast.

You aren't going to get a later version of the stock ROM. Period. You can, however, flash a custom ROM with the latest Android version. You still have to do the unlocking and rooting procedure, then flash the ROM you want. Check the index, it has a ROM section(It is a little outdated, so check the Android development section)
As for unlocking to all carriers, you need S-OFF which can be achieved only with the help of a tool called xtc clip. You can also buy an unlock code from eBay I think.

Read the FAQ, then noticed the sticky saying the topic I posted in general will be deleted cause technically its a question.
So I just wanna simply pay to have my xperia r800a's bootloader unlocked. I read to pm but, it wont let me do that and the website linked to in the faq is virtually a blank page with nothing.
How do I go about paying to have the bootloader unlocked.
Also do I need to have the bootload unlocked to overclock my phone or is having it rooted good enough as i've already done that with super one click.

This is free Bootloader Unlock for the R800a:
[GUIDE] Bootloader Unlock Status: No / No Fastboot
This will not give you access to Fast Boot Mode but you can still Flash Custom Kernels using Flash Mode. Here is a link to Kernels you can Flash using Flash Mode(I have converted them from .img to .ftf):
[Depository]FTF Kernels for the Xperia Play
To Over Clock you need a Custom Kernel, and to Flash a Custom Kernel you need to Unlock your Bootloader.

Thanks for the speedy reply hopefully I can figure it all out.
I will say right now im horribly unimpressed with the frustration of android lol. All I wanted was some ppsspp like all the videos I was seeing on youtube. That way I could stop carry around my vita and a phone.
Also dead links instantly in the first post with the required files -_-
Also after reading the guide I wouldnt say that its user friendly at all and spoken with so much easy and over glancing of its technical level. I much rather pay if I can just do that still. Is that possible?
