Oh yeah, haha my bad. I did see that after i posted D:
Btw, how did you unlock your bootloader? i've read up a bit on this and i haven't got clue. It'd be great if you could help
Thanks iceman
you can just go to the Sony Ericsson homepage or follow a tutorial on this page. It's really not hard to unlock, just remember, you will wipe your phone - so better make a backup first
hi, I just rooted my locked arc 15minutes ago using gingerbreak v1.2 and as far as I can tell so far it went well I'm not experiencing any problems.
My question might sound dumb but does rooting the phone also unlock it ? cause mine is still locked and I'd like to unlock it.
Is there another way to unlock it ?

if you use gingerbreak, then it is still locked. go here "http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions" to safely unlock your phone. Just remember unlocking will void your warranty.
That's actually the first method I've tried but I but I couldn't manage to start the fast boot once I've turned off the phone; and I've followed the tutorial on YouTube exactly. The led just won't turn blue I've tried it several times.

If you're following the instructions properly and its not working, then that probably means your phone is branded and the bootloader can't be unlocked. There's a thread going on here about trying to enable fastboot on sim-locked phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063394
I've found the code for 25€, witch I consider to be a good deal considering the 65€ I was originally asked for on my network so I'm gonna go with that. I've already ordered it.
I've read the thread you posted and It's still a work in progress, I appreciate the effort that's being done but 25€ is not much and it's risk free.
I tried to root my phone with super onclick and it did not work. i have a xperia play (R800i) wit android 2.3.4 kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf. i Don't want to unlock my bootloder somone have any idea what to do? and do you need more info?

Have you tried with the Zurgresh method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 It's very simple indeed.
P.S. Fasboot never bricked my phone and I have used it lot of times!
from what ive heard you cant root .62, .69 firmware or above, you need to downgrade or flash doomkernel which is prerooted
there is another method which involves flashing rootxperia.zip from cwm by booting binary's recovery, but i don't know it that will work
Even though I flashed my phone from instruction, I am new to the lock bootloader idea. Is it possible to use fastboot while the bootloader is locked?

Do anyone know if iy will be possible to root my frimware in the future?
You don't need Fastboot to use the script I posted and and your bootloader doesn't have to be unlocked.
Try the DooMLord Easy Rooting toolkit....google it...or search here in the forums....
Make sure you're not on the latest .62 or higher firmware, download doomlords zergrush one-click, follow the instructions in the thread for it. Simple.
Here, since you probably didn't search the forums properly first -_- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
And for crying out loud you DO NOT need fastboot to root, or flash (stock) roms with flashtool!!
I'm getting really annoyed with ignorant people who spread false information. If you don't know what you're talking about, if you're new to xda and can barely do things yourself, don't try to give people advice!
I can't even count how many threads where we had to clear up false info about rooting, fastboot, flashing etc. because some new guy thought he was an expert and gave incorrect info to other new members.
Why do I care so much, and why bother ranting you may ask? It's simple, really. False information leads to mistakes that can leave a poor, unsuspecting newbie with a nice brick instead of a working phone.
Make sense? I should hope so. And for the love of God read the rules before you post! They clearly state to SEARCH the forums before posting, yet it seems nobody does. I'm pretty sure the forum tells you to read them when you sign up, and agree to the terms of use..

YOu can use flashtool, doesn't mean you will do some hardcore flashing.
The flashtool has the option to apply the zergrush method to root and is very easy to use. You can even install a more trustable busybox (1.19) for other rootie candies. (Even tought I update to 1.19.4)
But first thing I made when I bought is to unlock the bootloader, maybe don't work for you, but will NOT destroy your phone in case of failure.
hi, I have been reading a lot about S-OFF how to, but I've read too much & I'm kinda confused right now, can someone help me through if I can get S-OFF, & post me link for the thread I have to read & do exactly.

No there is still no way to get S-Off on the HOX. The only way to install a custom rom is via HTCdev but then you'll lose the warranty.

Ok. I am a noob and a little confused.
So, if I root, I get access to entire operating system files. This enables me to make a full back-up of my phone. Am I right in assuming that I can root without unlocking the bootloader?
If I unlock the bootloader, I am able to load another version of android made by Cynagenmod and others. Can I unlock the bootloader without root or when I unlock it from HTC Dev, it roots my phone automatically? Also, if I do not load any other ROM, will I still be able to get HTC updates?
Where in all this is S-off? I understand that while unlocking the bootloader, HTC Dev still has some locked parts of the OS which is inaccessible due to S-on, but when we root the phone, doesn't it provide access to the locked partitions/files?
Apologies for the basic questions, would appreciate all help.

You can't root yet without unlocking bootloader. You can load other versions of Android (there is no official Cyanogenmod yet, but there are quite a few CM9 and AOKP builds in the dev sections). Unlocking via HTCdev does not auto-root. You can relock after unlocking to get official updates.
Rooting doesn't give us access to being able to write to these partitions. That's what we want from S-OFF.

Thank you so much. Much appreciated.
So to confirm, I have to unlock the bootloader from HTC Dev first, then try the method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167 to root. I may not want to load the other custom builds right now, I'm still waiting for the Jb/4.0.4 update and also my warranty to run out. In the meantime, figuring out what is what and how it works, although I doubt I will be able to wait out another 9 months.

Firstly, HTCdev unlock will void the warranty, you can search other threads for this. Secondly, that thread is for the HTC One XL (Qualcomm Snapdragon LTE), which is a completely different model to the international HOX (Tegra 3), so you don't want to use that. Here's the correct thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577671
HTCdev unlock also wipes your phone, so you might as well load up a new rom which is already rooted.
Also, if you do decide to HTCdev unlock, make sure you load a new recovery up.I recommend CWM recovery, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
Immediately after you do that, take a backup from CWM recovery.

Yup, read about the void warranty bit. And I also noticed that the thread is headed for the One XL, however, it still does show up in the home page of the International One X.
And I get the point about the new ROM. Given I have no hw problems with my phone and i've had it since early april, i reckon I might unlock it this wknd and load up another rom. Thanks again.

I edited my last post with some more helpful info.
Hi all, im a newbie here, i bought my Xperia PRO a month ago, and rooted it on Android 4, using a great tutorial in this forum and thanks to other members i got it right and rooted it in my 4 first days of use. But, i now want to upgrade to a Custom ROM and use a custom kernel , to get my phone to a new generation.
And my question now is, how can i flash a Custom ROM (i was thinking of CM9 stable when it comes out), and flash a custom Kernel with it (i was thinking of Ultima V1.4) and then keep my old applications, or most of them.
I have CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4 installed using X-Parts , and also Titanium Backup Pro . My Bootloader is still locked and i have flashtool and all drivers for my phone installed on my PC.
I would be very thankful to anyone that is able to help me do all these, or if needed, recommend me a better Custom ROM and Kernel, and then explain how i can O/C my phone too, and keep if possible most of my apps.
Also, please tell me if i have to install anything else, or if im missing anything.
Thanks in advance.
Hi mate,
First of all, I take it that you know that you have to unlock your boot loader to install custom kernels and some custom rom's. Like CM9 and 10.
ROM Install Instructions
There are normally instructions that are in the first or second post that explain how to install. If there aren't any, I've copied the instructions from maxio1998, so all credits go to him:
1. Download .zip file and place it on SD card
2. Download and flash kernel you like (or not, if you have locked bootloader)
3. Download WiFi Modules of chosen kernel and place them on sdcard
4. Go to CWM Recovery.
5. Wipe everything! (This means everything but the SD card, or you'll use all you files)
6. Flash zip with ROM
7. Flash zip with WiFi modules
8. In CWM go to "Advance" and fix permissions.
9. Reboot and enjoy [~xDevilCharged~] and PentaPowerful~ Jelly Sandwich!

Kernel Install instructions
To keep it simple, heres a program that doomed151 made. It flashes the .img without having to use command prompt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551073
Right, onto keeping your apps. As you need to wipe everything to install a new ROM, you can't keep your apps without backing them up. Titanium backup is the best option, and you've bought it, even better :victory: The wipe will not delete the backups from the SD Card so just place them somewhere on there.
You can use any overclocking app from the market as long as you let it use superuser or supersu. Don't recommend passing 1.3, it gets very hot and the cpu will burn out quicker. (Yeah, I know i've overclocked mine to 1.5, but it gets very hot and runs out of battery quickly)
As you've already got CWM installed, you'd be better doing a full nandroid backup, just in case you decide to revert back to stock, you have all your apps installed
Unfortunately, I'm using the arc, so I can't recommend any kernels or ROM's to you. Sorry.
If I've missed anything you need to know, just let me know. I'll try to help
Awesome! Thank you very much my friend, very detailed and nice guide. I'll wait for CM9 stable to be released for my phone an then ill try it out.
Thanks again.
Also, I've searched enough, to believe that cyanogen mods, are the best and most recommended custom ROMs, about the kernel, I aint so sure but ill see what other user's might say.

If i remember right, CM9.1 (stable) has not yet been released for iyokan (MK16i). So that means i have to wait. Also, i can flash a ROM and use a kernel other than the ROM's default one, right? (i want CM9.1 with Ultima V1.4 Kernel)
And one more thing, i have moved all apps to the SD, what will happen to the files there? Will they remain?

I think that you have to use the cm kernel (fxp kernel). Could be wrong though, not really looked into it.
Any apps that you have installed on your phone will be deleted. You have to back them up and then restore them. It doesn't matter where they are installed

Sorry for late reply, just look up the thread again.
Best thing you could do is ask a question the Ultima Kernel thread and hope you get a response. But I think that it will be for stock only, (I think they need different things in them....) but im not a dev, I don't have the patience.....
You might have to flash google apps. Just use CWM in the custom kernel you choose. They will be a link in the bottom of the first post to the google apps download.
No need to flash another baseband or owt like that. When you flash the full zip of CM9 in CWM it will add and edit everything you need.
CWM from X-Parts will not have any effect on anything after you flash a different kernel. It will disappear like it was never there.
Hope I'm able to help again Need anything else, just post again, I will pick it up
Good work Jon565G
Not just good, excellent work!
I did it, and flahsed the kernel and all that stuff, now i reinstalled all my apps , and O/Ced at 1.2Ghz , and everything is nice.
But, working on android stuff, makes you want more and more, and as you learn better, that makes you want even more, and now i want to mod another phone.!
I've learned a lot from your help and the help of other members of this forum, and i think i am now ready to "mod" more phone, just for fun.
I already managed to flash an x10 mini with miniCM7 and flash a nAa Kernel, and also flash another x10 mini pro with miniCM7, and probably today ill mod another friend's x10 mini. And later two x8.
Learning, is great, thank you all.
EDIT: I also found out that everything you need is Flashtool, its the best tool out there, it flashes, it installs Busybox, recoveries, it unlocks bootloaders, it roots, it flashes kernels, everything. .Ok you might also need s1tool to check about the semc lock and if you unlocked the bootloader.

I know, I'm the same. I'll want to go and buy about 10 different android devices just to have a play around and mod them. It's always nice to play around with 2 android devices (Please come back in stock Nexus 7 )
Anyway... I'm just glad that I was able to help to introduce you to the world of android modding.
Have fun, that's what it's all about :victory:

I hope you get back your Nexus 7 then
Yeah, i unlocked my Bootloader using testpoint method too, so i wouldnt get any bricks with FOTA updates. And, i also used to be into such electronic stuff.
And, you didnt just introduced me into Android Modding World, you made me a fanatic Android Modder

I am not sure, but i believe, that either you have locked or unlocked bootlader, it will always say "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes , or No if its not allowed).
I aint sure, because in CM9.1 i dial it, and i cant get to the Service Settings, so i cannot be sure.
And, as i've found out, you can be sure if you have locked or unlocked bootloader, by running S1tool, and pressing "IDENTIFY" , which will tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (phone off, connect USB while pressing back) , and it will give something like "loader version xXXXXXX" , where the capital X , are numbers, and the small x, is either "R" or "r". If it is a small "r" , that means its unlocked, if its a capital "R" its locked.
If you want to unlock your bootloader in the Xperia Pro, just tell me , and im sure i'll help you out, with a detailed tutorial, without having any problems.
Hope i helped.

Great, if you need anything else, ill be happy to assist you.
Ok so I read the FAQ and understand that the r800a uses a paid for unlock of the bootloader. Seems like bs but its whatever.
You cant seem to pm anyone instantly and the webpage it links to, to go about unlocking it that way just doesnt load anything really.
How can I go about getting this show on the road and unlocking my bootloader so I can actually do fun stuff with my phone and at least over clock it as thats all I really wanna achieve out of it?
Sure this kinda craps been asked a million times but when the faqs links no longer work I dont know what else im supposed to do.
Already used super one click and rooted the phone that part was easy enough.
there's a hope
Hi, i'm new, i hope i'm not breaking any rule with this.
If you got this:
Code:
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock Status: No
Then you are unable to unlock your bootloader without pay, but it does not mean you are not able to do fun stuff like you said , you only need to do a test point, give a look to this tutorial TUTORIAL, follow all steps, it is not necessary to sold a clip to usb, you just need to bridge the red points shown at bottom of this post POST . Now you wont be able to flash any .img in fastboot , you should flash .ftf basebands and kernels in flashmode, then flash rom with CWM then enjoy your phone .
I'm no an english speaker so i'm sorry if my english is not good, you can see THIS post which xplains better than me.
And here you can find all (i think) kernels for xplay in ftf ready to flash.
Hope i was helpful. Good luck. :fingers-crossed:
