If you have a problem with your TomTom lagging, mine was about 3 seconds try this.
Start TomTom
Go into "Change Preferences"
Tap "Show POI on map"
Uncheck all items
Tap "Done"
if you want to enable speed camaras then do this
Go into "TomTom services"
Tap "TomTom Safety Camaras"
Tap "enable alerts"
Tap "all" you will get a message asking if you want to "remove warning"
tap "No" you can now change the time before the next camara warning (mine is set to 30 seconds)
Tap "Ok" and you can now select the warning tone required
Tap done to exit
Now TomTom should run smoother than you ever thought possible

Does this requires that you have subscribed to TomTom services? Might not be the case for all people who just buy the map and don't pay for extras...
Don't know.
All i do know is that the more Ov2 files that are being loaded as you drive to display POI's on screen the more lag is experienced.
You can still have POI's but have them notify as you drive past on route.
My TomTom went from 3 second lag to none at all.
I don't subscribe to any other services and I get my speedcam info elsewhere

Hi
Thanks for the tip
JPW
tried this tonight and it seems to improve it by around -50% of lag time
id say i was 2metres off now
i remained convinced that at least some of the drag is to do with graphics performance rather than gps or cpu chipset
glad it helped you

Thanks for the information but I have still the same problem here
It could not be a problem with a poor Radio rom version ?
P.S : I dont find the "TomTom Safety Camaras" option.
P.S : I dont find the "TomTom Safety Camaras" option.[/QUOTE]
Do you have any safety camara Ov2 files downloaded?
if not then you can buy them from lots of different websites including TomTom
No I dont
Anyway, the GPS is still lagging like before for me :-/
Thanks

I don't get to the point where you 'enable alerts'. Instead I get a screen explaining that TomTom safety cameras can be downloaded using TomTom Home.
This is despite the fact I have the files in the Maps folder of my storage card and they show whilst travelling the route. They are not TomTom Official they are from Pocket GPS world.
Would this make a difference?

Clearly not since you have it working with safety camara's already.
Did it cure the lag on your device though?

I have read all the posts I can find on TT5 and the IIs and have fixed a few of the following problems. I have yet to have any answer at all from TomTom support and it is now three days since I posted the issue with them:
"I have recently upgraded to Navigator 5 and have experienced a catalogue of faults with your new version. I have spent the weekend struggling with obvious issues with your unstable software whilst driving about 600 miles and I am seriously considering uninstalling version 5 and returning to version 3. Please respond to each of the following issues as soon as possible:
1. TomTom hangs when you try to close the application. Even after leaving it for up to an hour on the way home yesterday, the screen never unfroze and I had to re-boot. Still an issue, any ideas folks?
2. TomTom rarely runs more than once between re-boots. When you try to start TomTom for a second time the "two little hands" icon appears on the status bar but the PDA then freezes and has to be re-booted. Still an issue, any ideas folks?
3. When not running I get a message "Cannot execute \Windows\ttgpseng.exe" (see attached screenshot) Fixed by hacking the notification queue
4. The Navigate To screens do not show a keyboard on screen. This forces me to use the slide out keyboard on the PDA which is not practical. (see attached screenshot) Waiting on TomTom to patch?
5. When entering an address using the slide out keyboard the Fn key produces a n(tilda) character instead of being mute. This means that I cannot currently use postcodes or numbers when entering an address. (see attached screenshot) Fixed by installing postcodes properly
6. I welcome the new "Warn about POI" feature but it is fundamentally flawed compared to CheckPOInt which I used to use (and no longer works as you have not supplied a new SDK).
a. Your warnings are based on distance from the POI, not time. This means that it is not possible to set a warning which is appropriate to the speed which you are travelling e.g. if you set it to 500 yards/metres this is fine for POI in town but too short for motorway driving. CheckPOInt uses a 30 second warning which varies according to speed! Got round this by using speed rated POI's and setting different distances for different speeds i.e. Gatso30, Gatso40, Gatso70 etc
b. The only warn of POI on route feature is flawed since you cannot resolve which road a POI is on where the POI position is on an intersection. e.g. where a temporary speed camera location is on a bridge above a motorway you will not consider it on the route. (see attached screenshot) Sort of fixed this by only leaving mobile traps as "not on route", after all, gatsos, temps and specs are always on route.
7. Running TomTom changes the backlight settings on my PDA. I have my PDA set so that it will not turn off the backlight when on external power. Running TomTom changes this setting to switch off backlight when on external power. No fix, even through the thread on this forum
8. The change volume according to speed setting makes no discernable difference to the volume of voice instructions. I don't really understand how this works, does it increase the percentage and if so, how much? Anyone seen it work? I have volume on 100% all the time now anyway
9. If voice instructions are switched off and you tap the screen to get the next instruction to be spoken, the instructions are then switched on! You have to then return to the settings menu to switch it off again. Got round this by getting a "mute" voice pack off the web. Now I get silent instructions but still get POI warnings so no need to switch off instructions
10. The TomTom GPS unit often refuses to talk to the PDA without a re-boot. Often, even with patience, the GPS unit will be switched on and will not connect to the PDA. Once you re-boot, the GPS unit then connects and works. This is a constant problem with Nav 3 and 5. This is the bane of my life, any ideas?"

you said "When entering an address using the slide out keyboard the Fn key produces a n(tilda) character instead of being mute. This means that I cannot currently use postcodes or numbers when entering an address. (see attached screenshot) Fixed by installing postcodes properly "
does this mean that you have found a way to fix the n(tilde) coming up?, if so could you tell me how?
try this thread and it explains what to do but basically you download a file and put it in a folder called zip in your route of the device.

Searched loads of forums for this as I'm having similar problems. I can't find this fix on the TomTom site. Is this the fix to bring back the on screen keyboard?
I have TomTom 5 running on the o2 XDAIIs and have the same issues:
1. Don't get the on-screen keyboard
2. The 'navigate to' option on doesn't appear on any of my Outlook Contacts
3. Tilda inserted when I press Fn key to get numbers, just downloaded the file for this & trying it now.
Other than that it's a fantastic bit of kit!
Does the full postcode lookup work for you in TomTom 5?
Apparently there is an issue if this doesn't work and you get the tilda uisng xdaIIs keyboard (I have xdaIIi so haven't seen this issue myself).
If postcodes do not work try re-installing them then creating a folder called 'TomTom' in the same dir as the 'zip' file (this contains the postcodes and is ~8MB), then performing a soft reset, this got postcodes working for me and apparently fixes the xdaIIs keyboard tilda issue.
Interestinlgy, I upgraded from TomTom3 to 5 and got the notification error. I rebuilt xdaIIi after a hard reset at weekend (upgraded to new o2 ROM), and if you install the TT5 upgrade after installing TT3 you don't get the popup message queue error
cheers
TomTom 5
Get the TomTom 5.1 upgrade - it files the ~ (Tilda) problem, as well as many more issues.
Postcodes not working? - Copy the "Zip" folder to "My Documents"
Problems with TomTom - view their support pages - it answers most of the issues in this post....
Postcodes not working? - Copy the "Zip" folder to "My Documents"
Yes, but this uses over 8MB of precious RAM.
Using the folder fix allows you to keep postcodes on SD card
I don't have any of these problems, but I don't use it on a BlueAngel, but on an old IPAQ 3970, and I don't use the TOMTOM GPS unit, I use a NavMan sleeve for that iPAQ. Works perfectly for me.
As for not seeing the screen keyboard, this is solved in 5.10 of TomTom so go download the update. It may fix some of your other problems too.

Hi guys,
I've now got it all working I downloaded the TomTom 5.10 update and it's all fixed (fantastic!).
Now I've got the onscreen keyboard & no tilda issue with the hard keyboard
Full post-code entry
Navigate to from Outlook contacts
Thanks!!!
I've been using different ROM's lately so I know it's not that, but randomly (not sure when or why) my google maps will reset the gps com ports to COM0 and baud 4800. As y'all know, these settings don't work, so I was wondering if there was a registry setting or something that would prevent this from happening.
Thanks!
Anyone have an idea on this?

Are you using the latest gmaps version (4.0)? I seem to recall that happening to me once or twice when I was on the previous version(s)
I'm using version 4.0.0. It doesn't seem to have changed itself for a couple of days now though =/
This happened twice more last night and today. The only repeatable common denominator is possible soft resets (I haven't checked after each one, nor have I checked too much throughout the day)
Alrighty, I was just outside, used ChartCross GPSTest to lock my satellites. Started up Google Maps, set the com port and connected instantly to 5 satelites. Exited Google Maps, walked inside to my desk (there's no windows), started up google maps and the com port had reset to 0. I'm using Radio v. 4.49.25.91 w/ the latest NRG GTX 21898 themed ROM. Is anyone able to help? Perhaps there's a registry setting somewhere? Something?

Programs:
GPS program port - COM4
Hardware:
GPS hardware port - (None)
Baud rate - 4800
Access:
Manage GPS automatically (recommended) - checked
I have tried setting the GPS in googlemaps to Managed by Windows and Set Manually. In both cases the com port will reset to 0.
Not sure if this means anything, but I found this in my registry:
\\HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOneDevice\CommPort
The value is set to GPS0:. Not sure if this is doing it, and I don't want to make a change for fear of messing it up.
Some more information.
Open Google Maps > Set Com to 4 > select Use GPS > Close Google Maps
Re-open Google Maps > Com is set to 4 > Close Google Maps
Re-open Google Maps > Com is set to 0 and Baud Rate has reset to 4800
So baffling =/

You don't set google maps to "managed by windows"? If you're using that, then yes the listed values for com and baud revert back to the defaults, but that doesn't affect what is used as long as you tell it to just use the windows-supplied settings....it happens on mine too (the values reverting), but I'm having no GPS issues, and I've got true 2m accuracy, even though it says "COM0" and "4800"

I have it set to Managed by Windows, but when doing so it never locks on to a satellite. If I change the com port and keep it set to managed by windows then it'll lock a satellite. I'm gonna go test it out to make sure I'm not full of hot air (wouldn't suprise me in the least)

Ok, went outside for a bit. I left my com set to 0 in google maps while Managed by Windows was checked. Never locked any satellites and it eventually timed out. Started up HTC GPS Tool and it couldn't lock any satellites either. Tried using Chartcross and it locked on to 3 satellites before I had to come back inside.

So the only way you get a lock in gmaps is if you set it to manual control and COM4/4800? and that reverts any time you restart the program? When you're using manual settings in gmaps, you may have to go back to the phone's GPS settings and uncheck the "managed by windows" option there, for the settings to not revert when gmaps opens, just a guess. I'll test it too in a few minutes
I switched back to an older version which also did not work.
I tried a bunch of different settings and did get it working then today I keep getting a device.exe error and the GPS does not work at all.
Yes I have:
My Location set (not 911 online).
Windows is managing my GPS
Google Maps does not work
Bing Map does not work
IN Advanced Config I have Enabled and Disabled Assisted GPS
I am on verizon.
I searched and came up short on answers. Has anyone had this issue? Is there a fix? What Else can I look for?
TIA,
Dan

On my TP2 the settings are COM4 and 38400 baud. Try those - set it from inside the program - each application typically has a "Manual" setting for the GPS.
use the new bing maps...it's far superior...
Try using Visual GPSce to see if your GPS is working properly.
http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/default.htm
After installing, go to "Connect" and change the settings to COM4 and 4800 baud.
This is a simple program that shows whether you are picking up the GPS satellites or not, and will often work when other programs (like Google Maps) time out. If you are outside, you should start picking up the satellites within seconds. The bars will start to fill up (meaning the signal from the satellites is being received), and the indicator at the bottom right will turn green when you have a good enough lock for an accurate location.

I disagree, in my opinion the traffic provided by Google is much better. It also includes incidents and construction, and is easier to see at a glance how much congestion is visible.
Bing is prettier, but not more efficient. In my opinion, of course.

Its listed as 4800 baud for the Rhodium countless times on these forums, and elsewhere.
I also don't think it matter that much. On the newest Energy ROMs, the HTC GPS tool is defaulted to 57600 for some reason, and the tool started picking up satellites just fine.
Thanks Guys! I went back to an older google maps and reset all of the settings and finally did get it working.
Anyone know how to speed up the GPS on S8500 Bada 2?
Sometimes, it doesn't even connect and makes me crazy.
I think GPS is useless on Wave
Yes, GPS is very slow. For me, that is one of the two big 'let downs' of the Wave. Don't get me wrong, I think the Wave is a lovely piece of hardware, except for the GPS. To find out if the GPS is working at all, do the following:
1. Enter *#7092463*# (This will get you into the internal menu)
2. Select 4. Module Setting > 4. COMM > 2. Lbs (This is your starting point for several adjustments)
3. Select 4. Settings > 5. Assist Method. Select AGPS (This will make sure, that the phone uses only the internal GPS, and it's not aided by network location)
4. Now go back to the Lbs menu (starting point as mentioned earlier). Select 1. Tracking test. (Start it preferably outside or close to a window, this will help with reception).
You'll see a list of data: GPS-time, Latitude, longitude,.... position source should be GPS. Now you just have to wait. This could take longer than 10 minutes, the first time. So just be patient. After that, it probably takes 2-3min, depending on reception.
What is also suggested by many others, is using the app "GPS status". If you want to get a quick(er) lock for navigation or some sports tracker, start that app up first. Wait to you get the lock and then start the app you want.
Hopefully this will help you. Good luck!

Well, the GPS is still weak/slow even in AGPS mode
i am now on kitkat on my note 3 att sm-900a phone.
however, when i search for location in the setting it says that location access is turned off.
when i try to open it then it shows it is set to highest accuracy.
but it is for sure not working as applications like moves fails to work.
i also tried some more apps like dragon assistant to get direction for home and it shows the same error message.
s-health also does not count steps.
any idea?
Might have better luck getting help on the note 3 forum, not the s3 one.

1. Easiest and most reliable way. Try this first!
Enter the Samsung service mode by typing this code into the dial pad *#197328640#
Then go to Mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD> (Important: don't exit the menu yet!)
Wait 30+ sec
Long press power button and select "Restart / Reboot"
Now check your GPS from any software that may use GPS like "Maps" or "GPS Status"
Theres a good chance that will be different on the Note3. Unless confirmed to be the same I would proceed cautiously.
As stated before, probably best to address this in the correct forum for the device.
