The links in my email notifications often takes me somewhere in the middle of a thread, instead of to the last post (regardless if I use my computer or my G1).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475689&goto=newpost
puts me in the middle of the thread - but only on first attempt! Now that I try it, it takes me to the last post. Might have to do something with how Google handles links in GMail

Hi Mats,
It takes you to the first post after you last read the thread. If that post happens to be in the middle of the page, you will be taken there. When you click the link the second time, it assumes you have read all the entries on that page. So, if there is a another page (after the one you just read), it will take you to the top of that page.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Dave

Hi moderators... sorry if this is a 'noobie' question, but I couldn't find anything in the Wiki or FAQ's for the site. (just point me, if I missed it...)
Is there a way I can consistently get a forum thread to display in linear mode starting from message 1 and showing the last message on the last page? It works sometimes for me that way (most notably with older threads), but on newer ones, it seems to always show the latest message on the first page (and the first on the last page.)
Also, when I try to 'print this thread', it always goes in reverse order (most recent message first). Is there anyway to switch this to oldest first?
Many thanks.

Click on UserCP on the top left had corner of the page (the horizontal menu a the top). Go into Edit Options - Thread display options- Linear - Oldest first.
I'm sorry to re-animate this old thread... but I was just searching some info on how to print a thread and I found only this.
Am I wrong or there isn't anymore a "Print this thread" option/button??
I'm on IE11...
Thank you!
I've noticed that sometimes after I post a reply on a thread, the browser is forever "waiting".
If I stop the loading of the page and refresh it again gets stuck.
If I stop the loading and GO BACK (i.e. to the page as was before I posted) I get the page and IS updated with my post.
...well not my post, because usually this "getting stuck" happens when the new post is going to a new page. So with this "go back and refresh" I get the last page BEFORE my post (because my post is starting a new thread page), but there is a link for an extra page (for example I am at p. 25 and there is a new p. 25).
I hope I am getting through: The bug mostly (if not always) happens when a new thread reply makes the thread add a page.
Anybody noticed this?
I use Firefox (latest) and doesn't happen on just one machine.
Same here but not always, a few times per week
I´m using the latest Opera
I'm fairly sure it used to be, once I left the site I would get one e-mail if a thread was replied to that I was subscribed to, until I came back to the site. Now I seem to get mutiple e-mail. Over night I deleted 4 e-mails from the same thread, I've not been on XDA since yesterday afternoon.
Is anyone else getting this? Could it be Tapatalk on my phone giving the site the impression I'm always on it?
As far as I know it doesn't take into account when you've last seen the post - it will send the email instantly on reply, daily, weekly or not at all; depending on your choice.
Hmm, kind of annoying then. Not how mist forums work and I'm fairly sure its not how this one used to work either
Sounds like you subscribed to a thread and asked to be sent notifications when others posted/replied. If you don't want them anymore, just go to your User CP and unsubscribe from the thread.
But I do want to know when there's a new post. If I've not been to the forum though, I do t need go know there's another new post, and another, and another...
Most send you one email, then no more until you've visited the site again. So everyone gets and email every time there's a post in a subscribed thread? What a massive waste of emails...

This is done to make sure you always keep up on Development. Remember this is not most sites. This is a Development site and one missed post could mean the diff between fixing a java code issue or not. This has always been the way it works. Keeping up on threads is a huge thing for alot of people.
Okay, I can see a point for devs having that option, it seems odd to force it on everyone though as it will stop users from following development

Yours is the first complaint I've seen about it, so maybe it doesn't bother most people?
Maybe it doesn't. I've not bothered saying anything for a month or two, there may be others who have just not bothered to say anything
This and I think maybe Rootzwiki are the only two forums from many that do it this way, Seems odd not to have an option to do it the 'normal' way is all I'm saying.
So, this constant email notification is actually a 'feature' on XDA as per these admins. Or has this been reconsidered as POV of a general user who doesn't want his phone beeping every minute in the office?

It's an option that can be changed in the Control Panel
It's supposed to be quick right? But it's the exact same amount of button clicks (one) as adding a new reply via the other button when on other vB setups no click is required. The page has to refresh one less time but the whole process isn't "quick" at all if you ask me.
Just my 2 cents...
I think the quick reply button is actually quicker..In the new reply, it loads whole other page taking lot of time in slow connections while in quick reply, no matter on which section of thread you are, just clicking the button would take you directly to the quick reply text box
Cheers,
AJ
It doesn't take you to another page, and it's accessible from any post (and not only the top or bottom of the page). That's pretty quick, especially for longer threads (or when you're viewing more than 10 posts at once).
Hi. I noticed that for any thread I visit and try to go to any other page via the buttons, the page simply reloads. For example, in a thread, I want to see page 2 to see if there are new comments. I click the 2 in the page buttons (the one with numbers and arrows for previous/next page), then the page reloads and the 1st page is still shown. Same for any number I click on. Strangely, this doesn't happen when I click the "Last Page" button...
I'm assuming this is either a bug or something wrong on my end, but I don't know which.

Not the case here. Please refer to attached screenshots; file names show how fast the shots were taken i.e. pages also loaded very fast.
Maybe a browser issue on your side?
EDIT: Just tested via XDA Labs, too. No issues. Please refer to additionally added screenshots.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if it was site-wide or just me. I guess it's just me, but I don't know why. It could be my browser (I could try on another browser just in case).

It's not just you. The site is basically unusable for me too. Firefox on Android.
EDIT: Didn't see that this was an old thread, my forums are really messed up. My bad.
This should be fixed now. Let me know if it isn't.
