Looking for a registry tweak and cant find it now - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Yesterday I came across a registry tweak that allow the phone to check the "tower" every 1-3 seconds for incomming calls instead of every 5-7 seconds. Some people were concerned cause they were getting missed calls and this was the fix for it.

Found on this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2074240
19-FIX THE SLOW RINGER
To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2)
(i can't tell the difference, still slow to me)

thank you

YOUR AWESOME! It's funny you posted this cause last night I woke up at like 2 in the morning all hella thirsty and it randomly popped into my head that it was not a registry but a msid hack lol. Thanks for this still.

Serious Jasjar battery life issues....

Hi all,
I've just spent a good amount of time browsing these forums - lots of good info here!
I've got my hands on a free i-mate jasjar from work as it is having battery issues and they just upgraded the user.
The issue is that it drains the battery in about 3-4 hours - thats with no sim in, phone / wireless / bluetooth turned off, very minimal use. We got a new battery for it in case that was the issue but it still loses it...
The other ones we have at work get at least a day / day and a half depending on usage.
I've reflashed it to the latest i-mate firmware (1.30.76 WWE) but stilll no luck....
Aside from sending it off for an expert to look at - does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to diagnose / fix the problem?
Cheers
Sam
disable activesync checks
in wm5 activesync checks every 10 minutes or so for new data even if you do not have a server installed.... so.... here are the steps.....
with the device disconnected from the computer !
1. click "start"
2. click "programs"
3. click "activesync"
4. right soft button "menu"
5. click "add server to source"
6. fill in "1" in every field clicking "next" as you go through the proccess! (or any other fake data you want)
when you get to choosing what to sync, uncheck everything and click "finish"
7. right soft button "menu" again, now you'll have "schedule" lit
8. click "schedule"
9. change both drop down menus to "manually" and uncheck s"end outgoing items immediately"
10. click "ok"
11. right soft button "menu" again
12. click "options"
13. select the "exchange server", click "delete" and "yes"
14. click "ok"
YOUR DONE !
the device should last a lot longer !
have fun !
p.s.
don't forget to disable IR so the device won't try syncing with the sun ....
Great - I've set it up and will test it out over today - thanks for the reply
Make sure your infra red is also off, receive all beams is unticked.
Presumably you're not using any over clocking software? They disable the idle mode detection so make the battery less efficient, even at slow clocked speeds.
V
Infrared is off, currently its got fresh firmware as off yesterday, charged overnight - no sim, every conceivable option turned off, no extra s/w installed.
Since 9am its now down to 85% - roughly using 10% per hour with zero use....
I have the Same Issue ,the battey use very fast .
at the first I think may be is the net lock make that, But yesterday ,I try to use the unlock tools ,but same as it.
the charge complete. close all function ,can't use more than 8 hour's.
I've the same issue,...change a batery with a new one, BUT when it goes les than 70% all the problem start, loose the phone signal, shot down....I've a official Qtek 9000 ROM of febr. '06

I think That's the Radio or Hard device error.
If other Rom have not This issue. I think that's this rom make it .
There are a number of threads regarding batteries and new ROM versions and I think the concensus is that its the battery and it is just coincidence about the new ROM.
I have had my device for about 8 months and it has behaved well until a few weeks ago when it started to shut-down at 70-80% battery. The shutdown only occured when I had a heavy drain on the device e.g. when using GPRS or phone and I started to think that the battery was dying and the heavy current drawn by the radio caused the battery voltage to drop below a sustainable threshold for powering the device - hence the shutdown. £20 later I have a new battery (from eBay) and can go 1-2 days without charging. I am leaving the old battery on charge for several days to see if it can be salvaged

Thank you help, But I return to the old version ROM. the batteries is OK. I don't know how to explain them
Try measuring the power consumption with acbPowerMeter and post your results so that we can see your device indeed has problems or not. See my related articles for more info (cross-posted to the General forum in here).
My Universal power consumption
With BT on and Wifi off power is at 642 mA...
Is it bad or good?

What that's mean?
it means that the device has bt turned of, and also wifi turned of and acbmeter indicates a power consumption of 642
I also seem to have started incurring a problem with battery, it is shutting down the device at 50%, and yes there was a slight draing GPRS and Push Email running, and trying to make a phone call.
It only really happened today, and am at a loss as to the cause. I would guess, the battery is 1 year old and probably needs replacing.
i have been using two different 3.2 roms ltcmdr, then jw's for a while now and no problems until today.
I suspect its the age of the battery. I am in the process of trying to suck the battery down as far as I can, then recharge it.
It appears to do a complete shutdown every 2% from 50% to 40%, I am now trying to get it to less than 40%.
My original battery lasted me for about 8 months when I started experiencing the shutdown / hanging problem whenever the charge would drop to 35%. I replaced the battery with a new original battery and all went okay. Unfortunately my second battery is only 5 months old and I have started experiencing the same problem again although this time the problem is occurring at a charge level of 15%. When the battery reaches this level and I try to connect GPRs or make or receive a call the unit hangs. If I try to soft reset I cannot do so till I connect the external charger.
I think such a low battery life is simply unacceptable.
Regards
Ever wonder how a battery tells the system that it is full and to stop charging?
If you get a new battery, take the old one down to somewhere below 100% -then install a new ROM and see what the battery meter reads after the hard reset.
The system must recognize a point which would be monitored and recognized as "full battery". When installing new ROM's, the system takes the battery power at the time of the install as 100%. This is why it is reiterated in almost all ROM upgrade instructions:
"Your device battery must be fully charged before installing this ROM".
However, I'm not so keen as to have a fix; but I've noticed that when the battery is fully charged and the device is then unplugged, turned on and then off, then plugged back in...it seems to charge alot longer than what I would expect necessary to reach 100% once again.

[Q] Battery usage

I just got a new desire after my previous one got stolen.
I found out the battery of my new handset last dramatically less than the previous one...it doesn't even last one day!
I reduced the screen brightness to 20% and deactivated the 3g mobile data but on the battery screen usage it says as follows:
cell standby 31%
phone idle 30%
android system 23%
display 7%
voice calls 5%
internet 2%
dialer 2%
why would the usage be so high when the phone is in standby? why would it be so high for the phone idle?
I also found out it takes ages to shut down completely...is there anything running underneath that I can stop?
please advice the optimization setting to try to improve battery life please
thanks in advance
The percentages just express which parts of the battery drain (lets say you are on 68% --> 32% drained) have been used by which activity of the phone (so they are not absolute but relativ values).
In a combination of your and my example this would mean.
30% cell standby --> 30% of 32% is at least only 1/9th of the whole battery.
Hope you get what i am trying to explain
I see where you come from but I don't think this can explain why I need to charge it every 5 hours.
Have you calibrated it,?? Search battery calibration, and try that.
Is your phone rooted michaelss16???
no my phone is not rooted but I think I managed to sort it out!
set it up as follows:
MENU> settings>wireless and network>wi-fi seettings>menu>advanced> wi-fi sleep policy> after 15 minutes
MENU> settings> sound and display>brightness> uncheck automatic brightness> reduce brightness manually by sliding it down to no more than 30%
MENU> settings> sound and display>screen timeout> set it no more than 1 minute
MENU>settings>account and sync>uncheck background data (it is possible to check it manually by refreshing it everytime is needed)
MENU>settings> Location> uncheck both "use wireless networks" and " use GPS satellites"
MENU> friendstream>menu>settings>Accounts and sync>for any of your active accounts(facebook, flickr, twitter) go to account settings>update schedule>set it up not more often than every 4 hours. (you can update it manually anytime you want)
MENU>Latitude>menu>privacy>turn off latitude. (it is possible to turn it on when maps app is needed...don't need it on all the time)
MENU>Stocks>menu>advanced>uncheck auto-sync data (you can refresh as needed)
MENU>weather>menu>settings>uncheck update automatically (agai nit is possible to update it manually by hitting refresh button)
In addition when in charge at night I shut mobile network off (I don't check updates-mail or post if I sleep)
Since I don't expect any phone call at night I turned the radio off by dialing *#*#4636#*#* >phone information>turn off radio (don't do it if a phone call is expected).
it is also possible to access battery history to check through all the processes running on the background and using power,CPU memory and bandwidth. ( the menu settings battery information refer only to the TIME of each process draining the battery and not the amount of battery drained by each process).
Now I understand why phone idle and standby was so high when checked in the morning..they are the only processes running at night when the phone is in charge if it is on).
Hope it can be usefull ....now it says 14h 52m and 13s since unplugged and battery level is still 54!

Battery drain and overclocking
I rooted my phone and installed Runnymede AIO v6.0.4.1. After installing i guess a default value has been set for the OCD as around 996000. I later changed it to the highest value and played a game. with in minutes my battery drained to 30% from 70%.
I mainly rooted my phone so that the memory constraint in HTC Desire can be done with so that i could install more and more apps and games.
I NEED TO PLAY GAMES and WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST VALUE to keep FOR OCD, so that my phone is fast and i could play games without even a minor lag.
And i also have another problem, in call history i dont see names against the calls made. However i can see those people in my contact list with names and numbers, but in call history i see only numbers and a + sign asking me to save to contacts.........
Can anyone help??

Does the "new thread" button not work for you? Hijackers should be prosecuted
For long time I was using Starburst ROM (stock + D2SD on SNQ kernel). It was really good in performance and battery saving due to basic Sense 2.2. I could play AngryBirds couple hours long. The major factor was screen brightness to be dimmed a bit. Since I dropped gaming behavior I had no experience with other ROMs/kernels I was trying.

Odd Problem with SGHi257M

The problem is that the phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - all of the correct icons are showing up so it looks like it is ringing, but it is not ringing either at my phone or at the person i am calling.
The problem is cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left.
This happens only when the battery is at about 40%, but not always - just occasionally and rarely. It happened today for the first time in a few months; it also happened a few times, a few months ago.
I would think that at 40% battery there should be no battery charge related problems? 40% should be plenty to run the phone?
Any ideas? I am going to return it to the store and ask about this, but i would like to have some more info to go on, if any is available.
TIA,
Mick

Update: It may very well be happening more often than i thought. I do not get a lot of calls, certainly not every day, so it could be quite consistent and i may not have noticed. For the next while i'll let it run down every other day and check.
It happened today. I just decided arbitrarily to check. Battery at ~35%. I phoned to check if i had any messages. Everything looked normal as i said in my original post, but it did not ring and did not connect.
Before re-starting i checked to see if Mobile Data was working. It was not. After re-start both Mobile Data and the Phone were working.
I am wondering what is the technical significance to the Phone problem of the Mobile Data also not working? They must be somehow related in the hardware or software structure of the phone.
I got my phone back today. On the report it says ...
Complaint
#1[]C56-no service
phone antenna cutting out intermittently
Symptom code C56
Work performed
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
Repair code 202
I'll see if it happens again or not over the next few days and report back. To me it sounds like they did nothing to the physical components of the phone, just flashed/installed/configured the various software components.
Mick
Here we are, exactly one week later, and the phone failed in exactly the same way. So the "repair" process they applied did not work. I'll be returning it to the Rogers store today and will report back here with the results.
I may have the solution to this problem of network drops now, finally. I took it back to the Rogers store where i bought it. This time there was a more knowledgeable guy there. He took one look at the screen and said "I know exactly what is the problem". What he noticed was that the LTE notification was not showing. This city is an LTE hot spot. The phone should connect with LTE virtually anywhere, anytime. He said it is not the phone at all, but that there is a "switch" that needs to be reset for my account; something to do with the SIM card. After a couple of phone calls he returned the phone and said that it is fixed.
Time will tell. I'll post again.
Mick
False alarm. The fix made it worse. Now it not only drops network connections, but also drains 50% of the battery over the course of one day with very little use. Used to drain 20%.
Mick
Just reporting that the so-called knowledgeable guy was incorrect. Still dropping the networks. I went back and he was incorrect again as he believed that you had to have Mobile Data enabled to make/receive calls. Oh well, he was doing his best. Got thru today so far with no dropouts, and battery drain returned to normal ~20% loss for the day. Will see what happens overnight and tomorrow.
Getting kind of tired of having an unreliable device. Hope this gets settled soon. I'll be back to him as soon as it drops out again.
Mick
I really do wish some of the more technical guys on this forum would take an interest in this perplexing problem.
Here is a summary of this problem and of the work done by the official repair center, the results, and finally at the end a couple of questions ...
Here is a description of the technical problem with the phone ...
1. The phone will work normally for an indeterminate time period, perhaps a few hours or maybe a week or so. Then it will malfunction as follows -
2. Signal strength is tiny. The phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - it visually appears to be calling as the active icon is on the screen and the message says "dialing". There is no dialing sound. It never connects, it eventually gives up.
3. Mobile Data is not working. With Mobile Data enabled there is no icon on the notification bar. Google search and PlayStore do not run.
4. Wi-Fi is working. The icon is on the notification bar when it is enabled. Google Search and PlayStore work with Wi-Fi.
5. The problem is temporarily cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left. Then eventually the problem re-occurs.
When i sent phone back the first time this is what they did ...
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
When i sent it back the second time this is what they did ...
[051]-No trouble found
;RF Calibration performed to enhance RX/TX performance and network connectivity. Passed RF compliance test to meet manufacturer soecifications. Adjusted battery level to optimize power usage
When i sent it back the third time they did exactly the same as the second time. The phone is now working better as i will explain, but it has not been long enough to confirm if the real problem is solved.
I have set up the CleanMaster [CM] and BatteryDoctor [BD] Apps. I have turned off any automatic options in both. I make only light use of the phone - a few calls per day, maybe one Google search, nothing else. I run the 1 Tap Boost CM Widget and the Save Power BD Widget after each use of the phone.
I also have installed NoWallpaper [saves a wee bit of battery power], SmoothCalendar [very nice and very useful] and one of the Clock Apps [with a useful 1 x 2 Widget].
I have not yet disabled the 50+ Apps that CleanMaster reports as harmless to disable as my phone is still under warranty and has this issue that the service people have not yet been able to resolve. But i will be doing that and i highly recommend it to others.
I have had the phone back from the 3rd repair for 6 days now. I am leaving it powered on overnight. At the end of the first day battery = 89%, second day 74%, 3rd day 55%, 4th day 46%, 5th day 31%. That is 5 days of light use. Was 23% this morning so i re-charged it to 100%. I'm happy with 5 days of light use.
I do not have written notes on the previous battery performance. But from memory it used more than 20% the first day, at least an additional 30% the second day. There was not enough to trust it for the third day as it lost more overnight. I was running BD and CM, using the CM Widget but not the BD Widget.
I am wondering when the phone will fail again. I'll post again when that happens as i feel certain that it will. But i secretly hope it will not
So, finally, here are my two questions ...
What is the actual, presumably hardware, problem with the phone that they are not able to find?
What did they do to improve the battery performance so dramatically? Did they for example lower the CPU clock rate?

Thanks fort the response, i told her not to get the phone.
Well, it gets worse. The phone messed up today same as before. A bit more than two weeks after the "repair". I was at home in one of the strongest signal areas. Would not receive or make calls or use mobile data. So back to the Rogers store. By the time i got there it had started working again so i could not demonstrate the problem. Also used a lot of battery power today, about 40% with light usage compared to 15% or less per day for the past two weeks.
What the counter guy at the Rogers store said is that there is nothing wrong with the phone, that all cell phones do this, and that i should adjust my expectations.
Here's another ConnectionChecker app. This one attempts to reconnect ...

Alarm Free Date (#SAD...) bug

Hello everyone,
I know the alarm free date #SAD...# is a beta feature at the moment, but I've run into a bug with it that I thought you should know about.
I have a section on a widget where I show the next alarm date and time, but I want to also show bedtime, which would be the alarm minus 8 hours. I know for standard dates, I can do something like #D-480...# if I want to subtract 8 hours. I can even do math within the variable, such as #D-$(8*60)$...# to subtract 8 hours. When I try this same sort of thing with the alarm free date variable, I find that it compounds amount added or subtracted each minute until something causes it to reset.
To make a simple example, if my alarm is set for 3:30 on Monday, and if I want to display the alarm time with 1 minute subtracted from it, I use #SAD-1 P:mm p#, and I should get 3:29am on Monday. It works correctly for the first minute, but as soon as another minute passes, I see that the the adjusted alarm time now shows 3:28am. So every time a minute passes, the adjusted alarm time gets multiplied by the number of minutes passed since I saved the widget. If I subtract 2 minutes at a time, then I see the time drop by 2 minutes as each minute passes. If I do 8 hours, then, well, it gets very strange very quickly.
I have noticed that the adjusted alarm time will reset from time to time, going back to the correct calculation for a minute, but I'm not sure of what causes the reset. Sometimes it will go back to the correct calculation after editing the widget, and sometimes it won't. Other times it will go back to the correct calculation after my screen has been off for a little bit and then I turn the screen back on, but not every time. Also, it looks like it may not add or subtract additional increments while the screen is off. Again, with my example of subtracting 1 minute, if my screen timeout is 2 minutes, then by the time the screen turns off, I'll see 3 minutes subtracted in total. If I turn the screen back on 10 minutes later, it will still show the 3 minutes subtracted. The next minute that the screen is on, it will either reset to 1 minute being subtracted, or it will continue to 4 minutes subtracted.
FYI, I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Android version 4.4.2, Sprint, rooted, but I am running on stock ROM and kernel.
I hope that this helps pinpoint where the bug may be. Please let me know if any other information is required.
Thanks,
Jeremy

GPS turns off when not moving for several minutes

I recently bought a Mate 20 (not Pro, Lite, or X), mainly because of the dual GPS feature. But now I have noticed, and reproduced, that when tracking my activity, the phone will the GPS signal when I don't move for several minutes (in the first instance it was about 5 minutes, the second time 26 minutes before the signal was lost).
The GPS signal will not come back after this, even when moving again, except for very short timespans (5-10 seconds, twice over several hours).
This behavior does not occur if not moving at all: You have to move, then stop moving for several minutes, and then GPS signal is lost.
The GPS signal was not blocked by anything, I was on the outside. I also did disable all power-saving features, but the problem does not seem to be connected to any particular tracking app: I was running 4 apps simultaneously, and neither was able to record a position after not moving).
So it seems like the firmware turns off GPS reception once it determines that the phone isn't moving anymore - without any notification, and while GPS is still turned on in the settings (and it stays on in the settings even though the firmware blocks actual GPS reception.
Is there any way to stop this behavior, so that GPS will always try to receive a signal even if I don't move for hours?
